Fun Trailer for the Horror Thriller AFFLICTED

Afflicted-Poster.jpg

This is the first trailer for a new horror thriller called Afflicted. It's another found footage genre film. Aspects of it remind me of the movie Chronicle, as one of the characters ends up getting these crazy superpowers, but there's a horror twist to the story that seems to set it apart.

The film was written and directed by Derek Lee and Clif Prowse, who also co-stars in the film. It won Best Horror Feature, Best Screenplay, and Best Director at Fantastic Fest, which seems pretty impressive. It looks like it will be a fun movie to watch. Here's the synopsis:

This terrifying horror thriller follows two best friends who set out on the trip of a lifetime around the world. Their journey, documented every step of the way, soon takes a dark and unexpected turn after an encounter with a beautiful woman in Paris leaves one of them mysteriously afflicted.

CBS Films will release the film online and in theaters April 4th, and I'm sure I'll check it out.

Cinemax has released three new promos for Steven Soderbergh's intriguing new series The Knick. The series stars Clive Owen and is set in downtown New York in 1900. The story centers on Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses, and staff who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics.

This will be a ten-episode season, and I'll be watching it. I've always been interested in the history of this stuff, and it's exciting that it's being brought to life. With Soderbergh on board we know it's going to be great.

FIGHT CLUB and INCEPTION: 8-Bit Cinema

In the past couple of weeks, CineFix has released two new videos in their 8-Bit cinema series. They use mostly 16-bit for their retelling of David Fincher’s Fight Club, but stay nearly all 8-bit for their version of Christopher Nolan’s Inception. Both videos do an incredible job of summing up the events of each movie — especially considering they both come in well under the 3-minute mark. I'd say, though, that the Inception vid has more creative surprises, but the Fight Club retelling fits more elements from the actual movie into it.

The final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars premieres on Netflix this Friday, and I'm excited to see how this incredibly awesome series ends. Today we have a new clip called "Clones Come to Kamino," and this is the description that came alone with it: "Clone troops have a problem when one of their number is infected with a mysterious sickness."

The entire animated series will debut on Netflix this Friday, including director's cuts of episodes from the five seasons that aired on Cartoon Network plus the "Lost Missions," which are basically the sixth season of the series.

It consists of 13 unaired chapters, and it features "some of the deepest mysteries of the conflict between the light and the dark sides of the Force are revealed. An intrepid clone trooper discovers a shocking secret, Anakin Skywalker's closest relationship is tested to its limits and what Master Yoda discovers while investigating the disappearance of a Jedi could forever change the balance of power in the galaxy."

Steven Spielberg Wants to Direct WEST SIDE STORY

I'm a fan of the original 1961 movie West Side Story, and this may sound a little strange coming from me, but it's a film I've wanted to see remade. I am normally not a big fan of remakes, but for some reason, West Side Story is a movie that I'd love to see get an update. According to Deadline, that updated version of the film could come from Steven Spielberg

Apparently the director is very interested in developing the film, and Fox is taking steps to make it happen. I would absolutely love to see Spielberg direct West Side Story. There's no information on how he might handle the material, but I do hope that they keep it as a period piece.

Nothing is set in stone at the moment, but the wheels are in motion to make it happen. Spielberg also still plans on eventually directing his big sci-fi film project Robopocalypse. There's just no word on when he plans to get around to doing that. Anything could happen with Spielberg when it comes to the films he makes, but I really hope West Side Story goes through.

This is our first look at the first issue of Marvel's new comic series What If: Age of Ultron. It will definitely turn the Marvel Universe upside down. I love the concept of this series, and it sounds like it will be a ton of fun. Here's the description:

In the New York Times Bestselling Age of Ultron, a time-travelling Wolverine killed Hank Pym before he could create the world-conquering robot Ultron. But what would the world look like if a different founding Avenger had been killed instead? Each issue of WHAT IF: AGE OF ULTRON imagines a cataclysmic alternate universe without one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! What would the world look like without the Wasp? A world where distraught Hank Pym never goes on to create Ultron – and instead ushers in a future even more heinous than the one we know! And it all happens this April in WHAT IF: AGE OF ULTRON #1!

The comic was written by Joe Keatinge and the variant cover above was created by Raffaele Ienco. The cover below was done by Chris Stevens

John Logan on BOND 24 - "'You ain’t seen nothing yet"

It sounds like the next James Bond film could be spectacular! Screenwriter John Logan seems to be really excited about it. He is very confident in the script that he is writing. Logan recent did an interview with Empire to talk about Bond 24 saying,

“Right now the first draft is almost done. I’m terrifically excited about it! I’ve been working very closely with Sam (Mendes), and it’s been joyous to pick up from our work on Skyfall and just continue on with the storytelling. The new movie continues the themes of Skyfall. Some of the characters and themes that we began to introduce in Skyfall will play out, I hope successfully, in the next movie.”

When asked if there will be any themes from Daniel Craig's other Bond films like Casino Royale or Quantum Of Solace, the writer says,

“There might be! Honestly, not being evasive, but the great thing about Bond is that I have fifty years of movies – 23 movies and all the Ian Fleming novels and short stories, all of which are fodder. And when I’m working on the new Bond I’m constantly going back to Fleming and the other movies – what are the bits and pieces, what are the resonances? One of the things we learned in Skyfall is that the audience really enjoyed those, they enjoyed when they saw the Aston Martin, they enjoyed when we had references to things they grew up with, either from Ian Fleming or from the other movies, and that’s always been a part of my thinking about Bond.”

They really did such a great job with Skyfall. I think Logan and Mendes know what they are doing when it comes to Bond, and I have a feeling they will once again make fans happy. He goes on to talk about the excitement of working on these films,

“Working on Skyfall was the most enjoyable experience I’ve ever had on a movie, ever. And I’ve done a lot of movies! And this is shaping up in much the same way, because it’s a loving, sensitive director who loves the material as much as I do, it’s producers and a studio who believe entirely in the story we’re telling and it’s leading actors who are a joy to write for. Honestly, because I’ve been working on both Skyfall and the new Bond simultaneously it’s been a really, exuberantly happy time in my life because what I’m actually writing currently brings me incredible joy.”

Finally, when he's asked if Bond 24 will be just as big as Skyfall and the 50th anniversary celebration events he replies with a maniacal Bond villain smile and says,

“You ain’t seen nothing yet!”

So could this next one be the biggest Bond movies of all time? It sure sounds like it! Bond 24 is released in the UK on October 23rd, 2015, and in the US on November 6th, 2015.

The Winter Soldier is the most recent character from the Captain America sequel to get their own poster. This guy is going to wreak havoc on S.H.I.E.L.D. and give Steve Rogers a hell of a fight. Cap has definitely met his match with this guy. This movie looks amazing! I'm so excited to see how the story plays out and how it will lead into Avengers: Age of Ultron.

THE BOXTROLLS Teaser Trailer #3 - (You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care

Laika Studios has released a third teaser trailer for their new stop-motion animated feature, The Boxtrolls. This movie looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. The latest trailer features "(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care" made famous by Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. This version comes from Cee Lo Green, though. The movie is being directed by Anthony Stacchi, and this is what he had to say about the song when talking to Yahoo,

"We had two previous trailers that were a little quieter, and we wanted one here that definitely emphasized the fun and the action/adventure part [of the film]." The fact that the words also reflected the geometry of their main characters' choice of apparel also made it the perfect fit. Stacchi said, "When we heard it and we heard the lyrics, it just totally made sense."

The film is based on Alan Snow’s novel Here Be Monsters, which follows a group of sewer-dwelling Boxtrolls that have raised an orphan boy. The voice talent for the film includes Ben Kingsley, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Elle Fanning, Jared Harris, Toni Collette, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade, Tracy Morgan, and Simon Pegg

A family event movie from the creators of “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” that introduces audiences to a new breed of family – The Boxtrolls, a community of quirky, mischievous creatures who have lovingly raised an orphaned human boy named Eggs (voiced by Isaac Hempstead-Wright) in the amazing cavernous home they’ve built beneath the streets of Cheesebridge. When the town’s villain, Archibald Snatcher (Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley), comes up with a plot to get rid of the Boxtrolls, Eggs decides to venture above ground, “into the light,” where he meets and teams up with fabulously feisty Winnifred (Elle Fanning). Together, they devise a daring plan to save Eggs’ family.

The Boxtrolls opens in theaters on September 26th, 2014.

The Raid 2: Berandal is the greatest action movie that has ever been made up, and I'm not exaggerating. Don't believe me? Here's a TV spot that features quotes from other movie critics that feel the same way as I do. I saw the movie twice up at Sundance, and I can't wait to watch it again. Watching this movie is going to give you such an adrenaline rush. It's seriously going to blow your mind.

The Raid 2 picks up right where the first film left off and follows Rama (Iko Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

The movie will be released on March 28th, and I can't wait for you all to see it!

We've got a fun red-band trailer for an entertaining-looking horror film called Stage Fright. The movie is also a musical, so that should make things even more interesting. It was directed by Jerome Sable and stars Allie MacDonald, Douglas Smith, Brandon Uranowitz, Minnie Driver, and Meat Loaf. The movie seems to have a good mix of horror and comedy, and it looks like something I would enjoy watching.

Starry-eyed teenager Camilla Swanson wants to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a Broadway diva, but she's stuck working in the kitchen of a snobby performing arts camp. Determined to change her destiny, she sneaks in to audition for the summer showcase and lands a lead role in the play, but just as rehearsals begin, blood starts to spill, and Camilla soon finds herself terrified by the horror of musical theatre.

The movie is set to be released on VOD on April 3rd and in theaters on May 9th.
