First Photo of Grant Gustin as THE FLASH in CW Series

THE-FLASH-First-Image__140228173750.jpg

The CW has released the first official look at Grant Gustin as The Flash in their upcoming pilot. All we get to see so far is the headgear of the costume, which was designed by Oscar-winning designer Colleen Atwood. I'm curious to see the full costume as well what the effects will look like when he's running at super speed.

In the series, scientist Barry Allen (Gustin) has a freak accident that gives him the power of super speed and transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive. Allen was introduced on the CW series Arrow, but he won’t make his debut as The Flash until the pilot, production on which begins next week.

Michael Bay Finds a Director for His BIRDS Remake

I can't believe Michael Bay is actually going to go through with this remake of Alfred Hitchcock's classic film The Birds. The movie is set up at Universal Pictures under Bay's Platinum Dunes production company. They've hired Norwegian filmmaker Diederik Van Rouijen to direct the remake. I'm not really familiar with anything that he's done, but I guess they saw something in him.

The story for the original film follows a San Francisco socialite who moves to a small northern California town that suddenly comes under attack by a horde of violent birds hellbent on attacking and killing people.

There are no plot details for the remake, but it imagine it will basically be the same thing as the first movie. I'm sure it will just be a contemporary retelling of it. It always irks me when someone thinks that remaking an Hitchcock movie is a bright idea. I'm not expecting much from this, as I just don't see how it can be as good as the original. Let's just leave Hitchcock alone, Hollywood... especially you, Michael Bay!

The Super Mario Kart Ride-On Vehicle by JAKKS Pacific is a Nintendo fanboy's dream come true. The only drawback is that it’s for kids ages 4 and up and persons under 70 lbs. With a top speed of 2.5 mph, you’re not going to be able to create a very exciting kids Mario Kart race circuit (unless you mod them).

Details from the Toys “R” Us product page: Let your little one race to the finish line in the Super Mario Kart Ride-On Vehicle. This ride-on features forward and reverse driving and on- and off-road tires, so he or she can take on tough terrain! The brake pedal system and seat belt offer safety, while the fun sounds come straight from the game.

Product Highlights: Forward and reverse driving, Working pedals, Brake pedal system offers reliable stopping, Seat belt for safety, On- and off-road tires, and Makes fun sounds from the game.

Just because it’s designed for kids doesn’t mean you can’t take it home, but I’m not sure what an adult person would do with it. You can pre-order it on Toys “R” Us for $199. (Thanks: Laughing Squid)

How Terry Gilliam Would Have Ended THE WATCHMEN

twist-ending-revealed-for-terry-gilliams-the-watchmen.jpg

Before Zack Snyder brought The Watchmen to the big screen, Warner Bros. tried for years to get an adpatation on the big screen. In that time several directors came and went trying to make it happen. One of them was the great Terry Gilliam, who was attached to direct the film back in the '90s from a script written by Charles McKeown. It also had Joel Silver producing.

I really liked what Snyder did with Watchmen, but it sounds like Gilliam's version would have been pretty awesome, too. In an interview with Comingsoon Silver says that he believes his film would have been “a MUCH much better movie.” When talking about Snyder's version he said, "Oh God. I mean, Zack came at it the right way but was too much of a slave to the material." He went on to talk about what Gilliam had planned for the ending of the film, and it's a lot different than what you might have expected.

"What he did was he told the story as-is, but instead of the whole notion of the intergalactic thing which was too hard and too silly, what he did was he maintained that the existence of Doctor Manhattan had changed the whole balance of the world economy, the world political structure. He felt that THAT character really altered the way reality had been. He had the Ozymandias character convince, essentially, the Doctor Manhattan character to go back and stop himself from being created, so there never would be a Doctor Manhattan character. He was the only character with real supernatural powers, he went back and prevented himself from being turned into Doctor Manhattan, and in the vortex that was created after that occurred these characters from “Watchmen” only became characters in a comic book.

"So the three characters, I think it was Rorschach and Nite Owl and Silk Spectre, they’re all of the sudden in Times Square and there’s a kid reading a comic book. They become like the people in Times Square dressing up like characters as opposed to really BEING those characters. There’s a kid reading the comic book and he’s like, “Hey, you’re just like in my comic book.” It was very smart, it was very articulate, and it really gave a very satisfying resolution to the story, but it just didn’t happen. Lost to time."

As a long time fan of Gilliam, I would have loved to see his Watchmen movie. I actually like the little twist on the ending. Unfortunately it's something that we will never get to see. What do you think of Gilliam's new ending for the story?

According to James Bond co-star Ralph Fiennes, director Sam Mendes is prepping to start shooting Bond 24 in October. Fiennes plays Mallory in the film, who took the title of M from Judi Dench.

At this point there are no details on the story, but Daniel Craig will be back as 007 for the fourth time. The script for the movie comes from John Logan, and Fiennes hasn't read it yet. When asked about it he said,

"I haven't read a script yet, so I can't tell you much. They'd probably swear me to secrecy anyway."

I loved the last James Bond film, and I'm sure this next one will be at least as good.

Amazing CG Animated Dark Fantasy Short Film - SINTEL

amazing-cg-animated-dark-fantasy-short-film-sintel.jpg

You've got to watch this fantastic CG animated fantasy short film called "Sintel." It was created using the free, open source 3D creation suite Blender. I was really impressed with what they pulled off. I also really liked that story.

The film follows a girl named Sintel who is searching for a baby dragon she calls Scales. A flashback reveals that Sintel found Scales with its wing injured and helped care for it, forming a close bond with it. By the time its wing recovered and it was able to fly, Scales was caught by an adult dragon. Sintel has since embarked on a quest to rescue Scales, fending off beasts and warriors along the way. She eventually comes across a cave housing an adult and baby dragon, the latter of which she believes to be Scales.

The film has a sad ending, so I just wanted to prepare you for that. Here's a little more information on the production of the film, which was directed by Colin Levy.

"Sintel" is an independently produced short film, initiated by the Blender Foundation as a means to further improve and validate the free/open source 3D creation suite Blender. With initial funding provided by 1000s of donations via the internet community, it has again proven to be a viable development model for both open 3D technology as for independent animation film.

This 15 minute film has been realized in the studio of the Amsterdam Blender Institute, by an international team of artists and developers. In addition to that, several crucial technical and creative targets have been realized online, by developers and artists and teams all over the world.

New MATRIX Trilogy Being Planned by The Wachowskis

The-Matrix-Revolutions.jpg

A huge rumor has just hit the internet originating from our friends at Latino-Review. They claim that the Wachowski siblings are planning a brand new trilogy for The Matrix. If that's true, how freakin' amazing would that be?! According to the site,

"We’ve been told that the Wachowskis have already started the writing process with early treatments and outlines already turned into the studio. No word if they will want to direct but my money says 'Claro Que Si!'...

"The derisive ending of the original Matrix trilogy [included] the bearded Architect suggesting that Neo wasn’t the first 'One,' opening the story world for prequels."

There are obviously so many different directions that they could take this story. I just hope whatever they do is better than what they did with those last two Matrix films. It would make sense that the studio would want to make more of these films and expand the franchise. After all, the original trilogy made $1.632 billion for the studio.

There are no details on what the trilogy will be about, but one of the early outlines was about the birth of the Matrix. There's also no word on if anyone from the original films will be back to reprise their roles.

Aaron Paul in Serious Negotiations for BETTER CALL SAUL

Aaron Paul wants to reprise his role as Jesse Pinkman in the Breaking Bad spin-off series Better Call Saul. In an interview with AP, Paul says he's had "serious talks" with the series  co-creator Vince Gilligan about returning as his character, who was a low-level drug dealer before he teamed up with Bryan Cranston's Walter White to produce methamphetamine. Paul went on to say,

"Anything Vince is involved with, I'm there. I owe him my entire career. And the idea of jumping into the skin of Jesse Pinkman again in his lighter days — because it's all a prequel — it would be fun."

I think it would be easy to incorporate Pinkman into the series. He's a drug-dealer that could easily be working with several other people that may have had to reach out to Saul Goodman for help.

I'm sure he'll end up in the series. I also think they'll eventually find a way to throw Walter into the mix. I'm excited for this series, and I hope it will be just as entertaining as Breaking Bad.

Vincent D’Onofrio Cast as Villain in JURASSIC WORLD

Director Colin Trevorrow has found his villain for Jurassic World. He has cast Vincent D’Onofrio -- whom you might know from Full Metal Jacket, Escape Plan, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and more -- in the film. Life of Pi co-star Irrfan Khan was also cast in the movie, but there's no word on who he'll be playing. D'Onofrio will make for a great bad guy though.

The actors will join Chris PrattNick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, Josh Brolin, Bryce Dallas Howard, and possibly Jason Schwartzman. All we really know about the story at this point is that it takes place 22 years after the events of the first Jurassic Park. The movie is set to be released on June 12th, 2015.

Here is just a taste of some of the fantastic fan made posters Blurppy’s Poster Posse has created for Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. These are taken from Phase 1 of their two part collection. My favorite is the piece above created by Richard Davies, whose use of paint splatter gives the poster a very Drew Struzan-type vibe.
