This is our first look at Jaimie Alexander as Sif in an upcoming episode of Marvel's Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. She will appear in the 15th episode, and she is part of an effort to help connect the series with more of the Marvel cinematic universe. Producer Joss Whedon had this to say in a statement,

"We always have our radar up for ways to tie our series into the Marvel films and bringing in an Asgardian really cements that connection. Lady Sif comes here on a hunting mission — sent by Odin — to find her arch-enemy Lorelei and bring her back to Asgard. It throws our agents for a loop when they find themselves in a fight right alongside this powerful woman from Thor's world."

So is she really sent by Odin? Or was she sent by Loki, who was disguised as Odin at the end of Thor: The Dark World? I love Sif, and it will be fun to see her kick some ass in the series.

Clip From Monsters University Short Film - PARTY CENTRAL

If you enjoyed Pixar's Monsters University, you're going to love the short film they made for it. The short is called Party Central (formerly titled Party Down), and today we give you the first clip. It features Mike and Sully showing up to their Oozma Kappa party with a plan to make it awesome!

In a previous interview, writer-director Kelsey Mann said,

”When you first meet the Oozma Kappas, they go to their fraternity house and the first thing they say is, ‘Welcome to party central! We haven’t thrown a party yet, but when we do we’ll be ready,’ I kept telling Dan [Scanlon, the director of Monsters University], ‘I really want to see their party. We have to do it in the credits or something.’ Then when the idea of doing a short came up, we were like, ‘That could be the party!’"

It took Pixar's team eight months to make the short, which is set to screen with showings of The Muppets: Most Wanted on March 21st, 2014. I had the chance to see the entire short at Disney's D23 expo, and it was fantastic.

Poster for Scarlett Johansson's Sci-Fi Thriller UNDER THE SKIN

Under_the_Skin_poster3.jpg

This is the poster for Scarlett Johansson's sci-fi thriller Under the Skin. In the film she plays an alien who is sent to seduce and abduct human men. The movie comes from director Jonathan Glazer, and this is the synopsis:

In search of loners, Laura (Scarlett Johansson) drives around the exquisitely moody landscapes of the Scottish highlands. She’s an alien, sent from afar and equipped with enough human language and awesome seductive power to capture, destroy and presumably send home human males. And then, her curiosity about her human body and an accidental act of pity disrupt her mission: talk about lost in translation! Jonathan Glazer, known for his brilliant music videos and SEXY BEAST, and cowriter Walter Campbell adapt Michael Faber’s acclaimed novel to create a surprisingly layered tale. UNDER THE SKIN begins like an effectively creepy sci-fi horror film, but soon deepens into a lyrical evocation of solitude and estrangement and a mournful lament for ephemeral earthly beauty. The photography by Daniel Landin is richly atmospheric, and Mica Levi’s musical themes provide an ominous depth.

The movie will be released in theaters on April 4th. You can check out the latest trailer for the movie by clicking here

We've got another production blog from Showtime's amazing looking new horror series Penny Dreadful. It's called "The Artisans," and it's the first of a two-parter.

In this installment we meet members of the Penny Dreadful production team who are responsible for set decoration and props. Learn about their craft and see the level of detail that goes into each element of Penny Dreadful.

The "psycho-sexual horror" series revolves around some of literature's most terrifying characters such as Dorian Gray, Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula. The show is set in Victorian London, and it "weaves together these classic horror origin stories as the characters grapple with their monstrous alienation."

The series stars Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear, Billie Piper, and Harry Treadaway

Second Trailer for CG Animated Film HEAVENLY SWORD

A second trailer has been released for the CG animated feature film adaptation of the fantasy video game Heavenly Sword. The film has a talented voice cast that includes Anna Torv as Nariko, Alfred Molina as King Bohan, and Thomas Jane as Loki.

I'm not really familiar with the video game, but I've got to say that I'm not really that impressed with what I'm seeing. Maybe fans of the game will be more excited about this, but I don't think the animation is really that good. It looks worse than some of the cinematic cut sequences we see in video games these days. Maybe the story will be good though; we'll see.

Heavenly Sword is a dramatic tale of revenge that sees Nariko (Anna Torv), a fiery red-haired heroine, embark on a quest for vengeance against the invading King Bohan (Alfred Molina) and his army. Once considered the failure of a legendary prophesy, Nariko must wield a sword that was ultimately meant for another. This ancient Heavenly Sword, once belonging to a powerful deity, can never be wielded by a mortal without it slowly but inevitably killing them. For Nariko it is a race against time to avenge her clan before her life is irreparably overtaken by the omnipotent Heavenly Sword.

The movie is set to be released in the Spring of this year. Thanks to IGN.

International Trailer for Jesse Eisenberg's THE DOUBLE

Here's an international trailer for Jesse Eisenberg's interesting new film The Double. The movie was recently shown at Sundance, but I didn't get a chance to see it while I was there. I heard good things about it though. It looks and sounds like a movie that would be worth checking out.

The film is based on the novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Eisenberg plays a man who is driven into madness by the sudden appearance of his doppelganger who starts to take over his life.

Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon's exact physical double and his opposite — confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon's horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

The movie is scheduled to be released in the UK on April 4th and in the US on May 9th.

Channing Tatum Has Begun Writing MAGIC MIKE 2

Channing Tatum has revealed to the world that he's started working on the script for Magic Mike 2. Over the weekend Tatum tweeted a photo of himself in an old-school fedora, staring at a bust of Matthew McConaughey with a caption saying that he had started writing the film.

"What better way to start writing #MagicMike2 than with my old friend Dallas? #runatribe"

Magic Mike was a surprise hit when it opened up in 2012. It turned out to be a great movie that made over $167 million worldwide. I imagine we'll see the return of several characters from the first film, but Stephen Soderbergh will most likely not be back to direct. In fact early rumors are saying that Tatum could end up directing it himself. If that's the case it would most likely be the first movie he directs. Tatum did not write the original (that was Reid Carolin), but it was partially based on his life.

The question is, does Tatum have what it takes to bring us a sequel just as good as the first movie? I hope so.

We've got a charming, fun trailer for a coming-of-age birdwatching comedy called A Birder's Guide to Everything. The movie features Ben Kingsley with Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) starring as a 15-year-old birding fanatic named David Portnoy, who "thinks that he's made the discovery of a lifetime. So, on the eve of his father's remarriage, he escapes on an epic road trip with his best friends to solidify their place in birding history." The movie is set to be released on VOD March 11th and in limited theaters March 21st. It looks like it might be worth watching.

Two Actors up for Kyle Reese in TERMINATOR: GENESIS

The casting for Kyle Reese in director Alan Taylor's Terminator: Genesis has been narrowed down from five actors to two: Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard, Jack Reacher) and Boyd Holbrook (The Host, Out of the Furnace). Each actor carries a very different presence, but Holbrook has more of the feel and vibe that Michael Biehn had in James Cameron's original film.

Whoever ends up in the role will join Arnold Schwarzenegger, Game Of ThronesEmilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, and Zero Dark Thirty’s Jason Clarke as her son, John Connor. The story that they plan to tell will span at least two films, and it will end the story of Skynet’s battle with the resistance that Cameron started.

Out of the two actors that are up for the part, who would you like to see take it? I'm personally not sold on either of them, but if I had to choose, I'd go with Holbrook. The film will be released July 1st, 2015.

Let's face it, the iPhone would be so much more awesome if it was partly powered by the Flux Capacitor from Back to the Future. Here's a great video created by Additifs that gives us a glimpse at what such an iPhone might look like, and the features it might include, such as iTime. It's called iPhone 6 Revolution - The Flux Capacitor, and I wish it existed because I want one! Thanks to Cult of Mac for the heads up.

Two Eerie Trailers for Scarlett Johansson's UNDER THE SKIN

Today we've got two full trailers for Scarlett Johansson's seductive and eerie sci-fi thriller called Under The Skin. The movie was directed by Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast, Birth) and according to the review quotes in the trailer, the movie is supposed to be really freakin' good. They're comparing it to the work of Stanley Kubrick. It definitely looks like a movie that I want to see. I love the eerie, dark tone of the film.

A masterpiece of existential science fiction that journeys to the heart of what it means to be human, extraterrestrial — or something in between. A voluptuous woman of unknown origin (Scarlett Johansson) combs the highways in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring this succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair. They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again. Based on the novel by Michel Faber (The Crimson Petal and the White), UNDER THE SKIN examines human experience from the perspective of an unforgettable heroine who grows too comfortable in her borrowed skin, until she is abducted into humanity with devastating results.

Under the Skin opens on April 4th in NY and LA before expanding nationwide the following week. Here are a domestic trailer and a UK trailer for you to check out.

Joss Whedon Starts Shooting AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Today Joss Whedon started his long journey to bring us the highly anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron! Production on the sequel has begun in Johannesburg, South Africa. The crew will film on location there for two weeks before heading off to Italy, South Korea, and finally, UK’s Pinewood Studios where the most of the film will be shot.

Apparently the opening 10 minutes of the film will be set in Johannesburg, South Africa. None of the film’s major stars – Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, or Scarlett Johansson – have started shooting yet, though.

It's awesome to know that they have started production because there's a really good chance that there will be some footage to screen at this year's San Diego Comic-Con!

Liam Neeson Joins Key & Peele in NON-STOP Valet Guys Sketch

Comedy Central's Key & Peele series is freakin' hilarious. If you haven't been watching it, I suggest you start because you're guaranteed to laugh. A couple of their recurring characters include a couple of parking valets, and in this sketch they are obsessed with Liam Neeson and his upcoming action film Non-Stop. The fact that Neeson makes an appearance with the two crazy superfans takes the sketch to a whole new level of awesome.

Gary Oldman on DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

There's still a lot we don't know about Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and the teaser trailer really didn't give us much. In an interview with MTV, Gary Oldman talks a little bit about the character he plays in the film and offers a bit of plot information.

Oldman plays a character who was a police officer before the fall of man and the rise of apes. He says that he is "the designated leader" of a community of humans "who were lucky enough to survive the flu, the disease, and ensuing social uprising," and that he was elected to lead over his group of survivors.

The actor goes on to explain that the community is desperate to find power so they venture to a nearby power station to see if it's still operational. While on that little mission they "discover that there's a whole community of apes living there. We believed that they were all completely fire-bottomed and wiped out."

Oldman teases that when his character finds out about the apes, "There's only one answer for him: Wipe them out." He then goes on to justify his character's inclination toward violence saying, "he's experienced great loss, personally."

When talking about the director of the film, and what he wanted to do with the story, Oldman says, "He wanted to make it more of a human story. He wanted to explore what had happened, and keep it more focused on the human side of it, before the story becomes the Planet of the Apes as we know it from the original."

It sounds like Reeves has taken the story in the right direction. At least, it's the part of the story I want to see. The movie is set to be released on July 11th, and I can't wait to watch it!

The Penguin, Alfred, and More Cast in GOTHAM TV Series

The Batman inspired TV series Gotham seems to be coming together nicely. It was recently announced that Ben McKenzie would play a young Jim Gordon, who will be the main character in the series. We now have casting for the Penguin, Alfred Pennyworth, Gordon's boss, and his fiancé. I've also included the descriptions of the characters in the series (via: Variety.)

Robin Lord Taylor has been perfectly cast to play Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. the Penguin. The guy looks creepy as hell. "With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney, and hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor."

Sean Pertwee will play Alfred Pennyworth. Described a "tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Pennyworth has loyally served the Wayne family. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne — the boy who will eventually become Batman."

Zabryna Guevara will play Captain Essen, who is Detective Gordon’s boss at the Gotham City Police Department Homicide Squad. "Essen balances the two worlds of police and politics with a Machiavellian skill that’s as much corporate litigator as cop."

Erin Richards will take on the role of Barbara Kean, "the fiance of Detective Gordon (McKenzie). A sophisticated emergency doctor, Kean stands by her husband amid the corrupt world of Gotham."

The series explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that infested Gotham. The series will also feature young Bruce Wayne, who is yet to be cast. Stay tuned for more details on what is sure to be an amazing series!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen Team Up for Christmas Comedy

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen are teaming back up with 50/50 director Jonathan Levine for a new Christmas comedy that he wrote and will direct. The film is set up at Sony Pictures, and as of right now there is no title. The story, however, is about "three childhood friends who get together again in NYC to renew their old tradition of going out on Christmas Eve." The role of the third friend has not been cast, but I imagine it will be someone who has rolled with these actors in movies before.

Gordon-Levitt and Rogen make a great team. I loved 50/50, and it will be awesome to see them working together again. I think they'll bring us a really fun comedy. The movie is scheduled to begin production in the summer.
