Wolverine's Metal Claws Explained in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

At the end of The Wolverine, the title character was left with only bone claws after his metal ones were sliced off by The Silver Samurai. For those of you who have been paying attention to the footage and photos from X-Men: Days of Future Past, you may have noticed that modern-day/future Wolverine appears to have regained his adamantium claws. In case you were wondering how that happened, Bryan Singer gives a possible explanation in his interview with Empire

Director Bryan Singer explains that Magneto’s ability to manipulate metal might have something to do with it. The Master Of Magnetism could, perhaps, “reconstitute the adamantium claws… [Wolverine] has a different relationship with Magneto, and perhaps Magneto could forge them.”

I hope they give a solid explanation of all this in the movie, and not some thoughtless piece of dialogue about Magneto fixing them. I think the audience and fans deserve to see how it all happens, and maybe Singer will actually give that to us!

Teaser Trailer for Scarlett Johansson's Sci-Fi Thriller UNDER THE SKIN

We've got a new teaser trailer for Scarlett Johansson's sci-fi alien thriller Under the Skin, in which she plays an alien who is sent to seduce and abduct human men. It's a mesmerizing trailer that leaves a lot to the imagination. It comes from director Jonathan Glazer, and it sure looks like it's going to be a strange film.

In search of loners, Laura (Scarlett Johansson) drives around the exquisitely moody landscapes of the Scottish highlands. She’s an alien, sent from afar and equipped with enough human language and awesome seductive power to capture, destroy and presumably send home human males. And then, her curiosity about her human body and an accidental act of pity disrupt her mission: talk about lost in translation! Jonathan Glazer, known for his brilliant music videos and SEXY BEAST, and cowriter Walter Campbell adapt Michael Faber’s acclaimed novel to create a surprisingly layered tale. UNDER THE SKIN begins like an effectively creepy sci-fi horror film, but soon deepens into a lyrical evocation of solitude and estrangement and a mournful lament for ephemeral earthly beauty. The photography by Daniel Landin is richly atmospheric, and Mica Levi’s musical themes provide an ominous depth.

The movie will be released in theaters on April 4th. Thanks to HitFix for the trailer.

Trailer for Kevin Costner's Hitman Film 3 DAYS TO KILL

Kevin Costner plays a hitman trying to be a family man in the new action thriller 3 Days to Kill. He's an international spy who is just looking to quit so he can have some more family time because he is dying. Of course he's asked to do one more job that could save his life. It's no surprise that the job turns out to be much more difficult than he thought it would be. Costner's acting career has found a second wind, and I hope this movie does well for him. Yeah, it looks like a cliche action movie, but there's a chance it could be entertaining.

The movie was directed by McG, and it also stars Connie Nielsen as his wife, Hailee Steinfeld as his daughter, and Amber Heard as the femme fatale who is there to keep him on the job.

In this heart pounding action-thriller, Kevin Costner is a dangerous international spy, who is determined to give up his high stakes life to finally build a closer relationship with his estranged wife and daughter, whom he’s previously kept at arm’s length to keep out of danger. But first, he must complete one last mission- even if it means juggling the two toughest assignments yet: hunting down the world’s most ruthless terrorist and looking after his teenage daughter for the first time in ten years, while his wife is out of town.

The movie will be released on February 21st. Thanks to Premiere for the trailer.

Maybe every adult needs one, too! If you're a Star Wars fan, age doesn't matter. These Tauntaun rocking horses are pretty cool. The design is very clever, but unfortunately I couldn't find anyone that is taking credit for making them. It would be great if these were actually for sale, and wouldn't it be even more awesome if they had them in adult size?! I could put it in my backyard and pretend I'm on Hoth when it's snowing.

Jesse Eisenberg Is Officially Lex Luthor and More Casting for BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

In a crazy turn of unexpected events, Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's Batman Vs. Superman! On top of that, Jeremy Irons was also brilliantly cast as Alfred! How crazy and amazing is this casting!? I don't think anyone saw this coming. It will be interesting to see how Eisenberg is going portray the classic Superman villain. Here's what Snyder had to say about the casting in a statement:

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

This just goes to show how far off all those other casting rumors were. Eisenberg is an incredible young actor, and I love the fact that he's been cast as Lex in the movie. I can only image it will be something like if Mark Zuckerberg became an evil villain hellbent on taking over the world.

When talking about the part of Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend and mentor, Snyder said the role was “an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

My excitement level for this movie just jumped up a ton. This is such great casting!

Topher Grace Joins Haunted House Thriller HOME

Topher Grace has been cast in a new haunted house thriller called Home, which is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. All we know about the story at this point is that it follows "a man who suspects the mansion he inherited from his parents is haunted." And guess what? It is! After all, what would be the point of making a horror movie if the house wasn't actually haunted?

Dennis Iliadis (The Last House of the Left) is set to direct the movie and Patricia Clarkson is in negotiations to co-star alongside Grace.

I really haven't seen Grace around lately. The last movie that I saw him in was Predators back in 2010. He's done some stuff since then, but I haven't seen any of them. He does have a role in Christopher Nolan's upcoming sci-fi film Interstellar, though.

They've released a great animated commercial promoting the new sets, and it features Han Solo challenging some nobody imperial scum to a podrace. The commercial is really entertaining so I hope you enjoy it. Thanks to io9 for the heads up!

BACK TO THE FUTURE Musical Coming to London in 2015

It looks like a Back To The Future stage musical is actually going to happen, and it's coming to London in 2015! Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis are working with Amblin, Universal Stage Productions (Wicked, Billy Elliot), and producer Colin Ingram to adapt the classic movie into a musical.

The music for the show will be written by Alan Silvestri, and it will be directed by Jamie Lloyd. Here's a statement from Gale thanks to BTTF.net

The Back to the Future Musical is a project that Bob Zemeckis and I have been exploring for almost ten years. We’re thrilled to be at last in partnership with a creative and producing team that will create a show that is true to the spirit of the film without being a slavish remake. Director Jamie Lloyd is full of passion, energy and imaginative ideas and we are overjoyed to have the film’s composer Alan Silvestri composing the music, with lyrics by Glen Ballard who has also collaborated with Zemeckis before on many projects. With all of us working together, we know the integrity of the material will be preserved in a production that will be a wonderful companion to the Trilogy. We intend to use music from the movie along with brand new songs to make a version of Back to the Future that is fresh, entertaining, and takes advantage of all the amazing things that can now be done on stage. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film.

Here's what Lloyd had to say about bring the film to life on the stage:

Rather than attempt to recreate such an iconic movie on stage, we have assembled a brilliant artistic team to discover a unique theatrical language to take audiences on a journey through time in a vibrant, unexpected way. The production will include illusions, skateboarding and many other surprises that will capture the spirit of the film but freshly interpret it for a new audience. Steven Spielberg once described the film as a musical and whilst we are incorporating some of the original, exhilarating score and songs, Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard’s witty, infectious and heartfelt new songs are the perfect springboard to tell this uplifting story anew.

This sounds like it could turn out to be a really entertaining musical. I hope it's successful in London, because I'd love for it to find its way to the U.S. so we can watch it here!

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for their fantasy romance Winter's Tale. The movie was directed by Academy Award winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, and it stars Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, and Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Brown. It's based on the novel by Mark Helprin. It looks like a really interesting story. One thing for sure is it's a beautifully shot film.

The story is set in a mythic New York City and spans more than a century. It is "a story of miracles, crossed destinies, and the age-old battle between good and evil."

Goldsman is the writer that brought us films such as Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and more. The movie is set to be released on February 14th, 2014.

David O. Russell Wants Jennifer Lawrence to Play Miracle Mop Inventor

Director extraordinaire David O. Russell is interested in doing a biopic of Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano. Variety reports that if he does take this project on, he would like his good luck charm, Jennifer Lawrence, to take on the main role.

For those of you who don’t know, Joy Mangano is the inventor of such gadgets as the Miracle Mop and Huggable Hangers. I have looked up what she is all about, and she has had a pretty busy life. She sold her first invention as a teenager and hasn’t stopped since. Even though she was a single mother of three, she kept at the inventing gig, and it has paid off. She now has a net worth of about $50 million.

Is this movie worthy? Maybe not, but with the one two punch of Russell and Lawrence, it might have a shot. I am definitely going to hold my opinion until I see the final product.

Until Next Time…

Man Creates a Returning Batarang

The new school batarangs Batman uses in the Dark Knight trilogy are nice, but not really Batarangs as much as they are bat shaped throwing stars. The "arang" in Batarang should imply return, and Victor Poulin has created a true Batarang that would make the old school Bruce Wayne proud. The speed on the first throw would knock someone out easily! I now see why they are in Batman's arsenal.

Edgar Wright Teases Hank Pym's 1960s ANT-MAN Suit

Director Edgar Wright is hard at work developing Marvel's big screen adaptation of Ant-Man, and he's been using his blog to tease certain elements of it. The latest thing he showed off is a photo of a model teasing Hank Pym's classic 1960's Ant-Man suit. The photo itself kind of looks vintage.

This makes me wonder if we will get to see a younger version of Michael Douglas as Hank Pym in the film. They would obviously have to use CG to make that possible, but it's been done before, like with Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy. It would just be cool to see a little origin background on Pym.

Paul Rudd is set to play the Scott Lang version of Ant-Man, and the movie is is set to be released on July 17th, 2015.

Liam Neeson to Star in Martin Scorsese's SILENCE

Liam Neeson has been cast in Martin Scorsese's next film project, Silence, in which he will star alongside Andrew Garfield and Ken Watanabe. Scorsese sure managed to bring together a hell of great cast.

The film is based on Shusaku Endo’s novel about 17th century Jesuits who to try bring Christianity to isolated Japan. Scorsese has been trying to make this movie since 1991, so it's great that he's finally getting to do it.

Neeson is an amazing actor, and I'm happy to see him reteam with Scorsese. In case you don't remember, he was also in Gangs of New York. The actor has been doing a ton of action films recently, and it's good to see him take a break from that and do something that will challenge him as an actor.

Garfield plays "Father Rodrigues, a 17th-century Portuguese Jesuit who travels to Japan with a fellow priest amid rumors that Rodrigues’ mentor has abandoned the Church. It is a moment of religious persecution in the Asian nation, with Christians forced to practice their faith clandestinely. Watanabe will portray the priests’ interpreter." As for Neeson he will play the mentor, Fr. Cristóvão Ferreira.

Here's detailed description of the story from the book:

Young Portuguese Jesuit, Sebastião Rodrigues (based on the historical figure Giuseppe Chiara) is sent to Japan to succor the local Church and investigate reports that his mentor, Fr. Cristóvão Ferreira, has committed apostasy. (Ferreira is a historical figure, who apostatized after torture and later became a Zen monk and wrote a treatise against Christianity.)

Fr. Rodrigues and his companion Fr. Francisco Garrpe arrive in Japan in 1638. There they find the local Christian population driven underground. Security officials force suspected Christians to trample on fumie, which are crudely carved images of Christ. Those who refuse are imprisoned and killed by anazuri (穴吊り), being hung upside down over a pit and slowly bled. Those Christians who do step on the image to stay hidden are deeply shamed by their act of apostasy. The novel relates the trials of the Christians and increasing hardship suffered by Rodrigues, as more is learnt about the circumstances of Ferreira's apostasy. Finally, Rodrigues is betrayed by the Judas-like Kichijiro. In the climax, as Rodrigues looks upon a fumie, Christ breaks his silence:

"Yet the face was different from that on which the priest had gazed so often in Portugal, in Rome, in Goa and in Macau. It was not Christ whose face was filled with majesty and glory; neither was it a face made beautiful by endurance to pain; nor was it a face with strength of a will that has repelled temptation. The face of the man who then lay at his feet [in the fumie] was sunken and utterly exhausted…The sorrow it had gazed up at him [Rodrigues] as the eyes spoke appealingly: 'Trample! Trample! It is to be trampled on by you that I am here.'"
