Channing Tatum to Play Gambit in Standalone X-MEN Film?

$

Gambit is a favorite character for a lot of X-Men fans. Unfortunately, the character was wasted in X-Men: Origins Wolverine when he was played by Taylor Kitsch. We heard rumors of a spinoff film for awhile, but that died down a long time ago. A standalone Gambit film is now back in the news thanks to X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner. In a recent interview with Empire, she says that Channing Tatum is on board to take on the lead role.

"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."

During a press conference last year, Tatum said that he would like to play Gambit, but there was no hint that he was actually going to do it. This is what he said at the time,

“I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favourite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real.

No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people. Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.”

I've grown to enjoy Tatum's film work over the years, and I think he would actually be awesome as Gambit. If Donner is pushing this movie forward and putting pressure on the studio to do it, then I'm sure it will eventually happen.

Mr. Freeze Sings "Let It Go" from FROZEN

It wasn't until I watched this video from 2chinTV that I realized Batman and Robin would've been great as a musical! The costumes and design would go really well with the stage, and the singing wouldn't have made the script any cheesier than it was. Theater dreams aside, this rendition of Frozen's "Let It Go" is worth a laugh or two, so stay cool and watch it.

Hilarious Red-Band Trailer for A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST

It looks like Seth MacFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West is going to be just as funny as I hoped it would be! A hilarious red-band trailer with almost three minutes of fantastic footage has been released. I just hope the trailer doesn't include the best parts of the movie. I love how the town where the story is set is known for people constantly dying in the strangest, most bizarre ways.

MacFarlane stars in the film alongside Amanda Seyfried, Neil Patrick Harris, Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Giovanni Ribisi, and Sarah Silverman.

"After Albert backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test."

The movie will be released in theaters on May 30th, and I hope you all enjoy the trailer!

Will THOR 3 Feature the Ragnarok Storyline?

$

Yesterday it was announced that Marvel VP and producer Craig Kyle would be co-writing Thor 3 with Christopher Yost. It's looking like the third film could follow the Ragnarok storyline. HitFix has a source close to the production that claims this is the direction that the next story could be headed, and that it would be teased at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"More importantly, if my sources are correct, the end of "Age Of Ultron" sets up a difficult situation for Thor as Midgard and Asgard find themselves looking at a possible war. Could we be looking at the beginning of Ragnarok, brought on by Loki in the guise of Odin? Could the third film find Thor having to fight against the realm that he's spent so much time defending?"

It's hard to put confidence in this source since we really have no idea who that source is, but Kyle himself has previously talked about a possible future story arc for the third film, and even hinted at Ragnarok. He talked about all this stuff during a set visit with several websites, saying,

“This is Hall of Science again, another place you’re going to see today. This is gonna be a pretty neat spot that we actually get to explore, which will go into the various breakthroughs and discoveries of the Asgardians where you’ll see functioning models of the Big Bang and all these wonderful technologies that no human has ever laid eyes on before.

"And inside’s gonna be this living tree, which we believe is connected to Yggdrasil, the cosmic tree.  And the effects and woes and success of the universe are spoken through this, this living object. So, should the end of all things ever come this would probably be the first thing to fall.  And we have a really tremendous scene in here with Thor and Odin.”

When "The end of all things" was brought up, Kyle was asked if he was talking about Ragnarok and he replied,

“It’s one of the bigger stories, right?  [LAUGHS] So, who knows?  [LAUGHS]“

For those of you not familiar with the story arc, Ragnarok is an apocalypse of sorts that represents the end of Asgard. Ragnarok is an apocalyptic-battle that the Realm of Asgard has experienced over and over and over again. Ragnarok is a cycle of death and rebirth. It comes in cycles, randomly killing gods and restoring new gods with no knowledge of what took place. This is happening in an effort to sustain Those Who Sit Above in Shadow, which are celestial beings that are the gods of gods. They need this cycle to continue in order to survive. Thor is eventually made aware of this cycle and it pisses him off, because it robs his people of their glory and memory. Thor vows to restore his people's glory by ending the cycle. This will require Thor to form an alliance with his arch-nemesis Surtur. You can read more details about the story here.

In Norse Mythology and in Marvel Comics there are fallen warriors called the Einherjar, who spend their death feasting and continually fighting. They are waiting for the day of the Ragnarok where they can fight for Asgard once again.

This would make for a pretty epic storyline, and I hope it's the one that Kyle and Yost are bringing to the big screen!

Forest Whitaker In Talks To Join Liam Neeson in TAKEN 3

Taken 2 director Olivier Megaton is going to return to direct the third movie in the franchise that was started by Luc Besson. Apparently Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace will be back to reprise their roles, and now Forest Whitaker is in talks to join them.

Neeson plays retired CIA agent Bryan Mills, and he used his badass skills to track down and rescue his daughter after she was kidnapped in the first film. He was then taken hostage in the sequel and he basically saved himself and his family. I loved the first movie, but didn't really care for the second. I think it's kind of ridiculous that we are going to see a third film. I honestly probably won't even watch it.

I guess they'll all just get taken again by someone else? Whatever happens, Neeson will be there to save the day! In case you're wondering why Neeson is even making a third film, it's because he's being paid around $20 million! Let's face it, you'd come back for that much to star in a shitty rehashed movie too.

Director Bryan Singer is already in the process of developing X-Men: Apocalypse, and there's a lot of excitement from fans about what is to come. In an interview with Empire, Singer and X-Men Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg offers up a few really cool details on the project involving ancient mutants and other things we can expect to see.

"One thing that interests me is the notion of ancient mutants. What would people thousands of years ago, without the benefit of science, think mutants were? And more importantly, what would mutants thousands of years ago think they were? Gods? Titans? Angels? Demons? And if such mutants did exist thousands of years ago, what became of them? Did one survive?"

Kinberg went on to talk about how Age of Apocalypse was one of his favorite stories, saying,

"We like the stakes of it, and it feels like a story that could impact a lot of our favorite characters in big, dramatic ways. We feel it's a very different story from Days of Future Past. For starters, it's a very different villain, and the characters will be in very different places emotionally."

Singer also goes on to say that the new X-Men movie is "more of a First Class sequel" and that "It'll take place some time after this movie. What happens in this movie brings about what'll happen in that movie."

When asked about the rumors of the Days if Future Past post-credit scene where Magneto would be possessed by an alien, leading to him becoming Apocalypse, he denied them saying,

"That's not the case, and nor will that particular thing be in the film. People were concerned we were making Apocalypse an alien. It's odd. I don't know where that came from.”

It sounds like X-Men: Apocalypse is going to include a variety of very interesting things that are sure to make a great movie and spark some discussions among fans. The movie is set to be released in theaters on May 26th, 2016.

Check out this video from a 2009 beating ceremony of the British Royal Guard! I show this not because it's surprising they're fans of Doctor Who, but because this theme is amazing to hear when a full marching unit is behind it! I would love to hear this played at a college football halftime show, or any halftime show, really.

Ever since NASA'a budget was gutted, the space program has been left in the hands of private companies to make technological advances and exploration. One such company is the Sierra Nevada Corporation, who has developed the next space shuttle that will rocket into space. The shuttle is scheduled to be fully operational in 2016, and it will rise above the clouds atop an Atlas V rocket. It's called the Dream Chaser, and it will be able to carry seven astronauts into orbit and back. It looks really cool, and you can watch a video of its development below! Thanks to Gizmodo.

FROM DUSK TILL DAWN: THE SERIES - Full Trailer

The El Rey network has released an official full trailer for Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series. I wasn't really impressed with the first teaser, but this new trailer gives me hope that the series could actually be fun to watch.

Based on the film of the same name, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series is a supernatural crime saga centered around bank robber, Seth Gecko (Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard "Richie" Gecko (Holtz), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Garcia) after a bank heist left several people dead. While on the run to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former minister Jacob Fuller (Patrick) and his family, whom they take hostage. Using the family RV to cross the border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club that is populated by vampires. They are forced to fight until dawn in order to get out alive. The series deepens the tone of the film, adds new characters and backstories and expands the Mesoamerican mythology behind the creatures inside the club.

The series will have 10-episodes and stars Adrienne Palicki, Jesse Garcia, Don Johnson, Robert Patrick, Madison Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo, and Eiza González. It's set to premiere on March 11th, 2014!

Super Bowl Spot for Kevin Costner's DRAFT DAY

Summit Entertainment has released the Super Bowl TV spot for their football film Draft Day. The movie comes from director Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters), and it stars Kevin Costner as the general manager of the Cleveland Browns. It follows the character as he looks for a number one draft pick to help the team, which is riddled with problems. The movie also stars Frank Langella, Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary, and Timothy Simmons. I'm not the biggest sports fan, but I do enjoy watching movies about sports, and this one focuses on a side of the game that I don't know much about.

On the day of the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver (Costner) has the opportunity to save football in Cleveland when he trades for the number one pick. He must quickly decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in pursuit of perfection as the lines between his personal and professional life become blurred on a life-changing day for a few hundred young men with dreams of playing in the NFL.

The movie is set to be released on April 11th, 2014.

LEGENDERRY #1 Review: Dynamite Gets Steampunked

Published by: Dynamite Entertainment

Written by: Bill Willingham

Art by: Sergio Davilla

Legenderry is among the elseworlds and what if category of comics, taking established characters and turning them on their head a bit. These types of setups contain some of my favorite stories, from Age of Apocalypse, The Nail, 1602, and so on and so on. Its always exciting to see your favorite characters given a unique spin. In this case, we have Legenderry, a Steam Punk Adventure doing the same for Dynamite’s stable of heroes (and antiheroes in Vampirella's case). Written by Bill Willingham of Fables fame, this book has a lot going for it, so let’s dive in, shall we?

Let's start with the lovely art of Sergio Davilla, whose characters leap off the page in every scene, and whose work serves the victorian steampunk vibe of everything so well. Even people in the background become characters rich with personality thanks to his wonderful pencils. None of this would be possible without Wes Hartman’s colors, filled with gorgeous reds and greens that are vibrant, yet not overpowering. Kudos to the art team, and the Joe Benitez cover doesn't hurt matters either.

Legenderry01CovIncenConceptVampi.jpg
Legenderry01CovIncenConceptSonja.jpg

The first issue of Legenderry sets up their world and circumstances pretty well, and centers around Brit Reid (Green Hornet) and Scarlet (Vampirella). Scarlet runs a tight ship at her exclusive nightclub, and Brit still runs his newspaper, but is more preoccupied with how martinis are made than getting the next hot story. All the witty repartee comes to a crashing halt when a woman (Red Sonja) stumbles into the bar deeply in need of assistance, and a battle, actually more like a bloodbath, ensues. I’ll leave the rest of the story for you to read, and I extremely strongly recommend doing so. Willingham moves the plot along quickly while still giving you a nice grasp of who these characters are and what drives them.

Hands down I would read a Willingham Vampirella after getting a look at his take on her, so if that’s a thing, then sign me up. I don’t have the longest history with Dynamite’s characters, but I’ve read enough to get the gist, and if you have any familiarity, even just a little, I think you’ll enjoy this too. For new readers it's a great jumping on point, you just might not get some of the tips of the hat to longtime fans.

If this sounds up your alley, Legenderry #1 is available at your local comic shop now, and issue 2 hits stores soon. Definitely recommended, and catch the full preview of issue 1 down below.

Review for William H. Macy's Beautiful Film RUDDERLESS - Sundance '14

$

0

Rudderless is the first feature film directed by William H. Macy, and it made its premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival. The movie was incredibly well made, and it tells a very heavy story about a father named Sam who loses his son in a school shooting. His son had left behind a box of original music that he recorded. Sam gets a hold of this music and falls in love with what his son had created. He ends up learning the songs himself, and plays them in a little bar where he is approached by a young man named Quentin who talks Sam into playing the music with him. They end up forming a band that becomes quite popular in the town. There's a secret behind everything that no one knows that throws everything off, and it takes the story to a whole new level of emotional wow.

The movie has a great cast of actors that includes Billy Crudup as Sam and Anton Yelchin as Quentin, as well as Selena Gomez, Laurence Fishburne, and Ben Kweller. Everyone gave great performances, but Crudup was absolutely incredible. He gave one of the best performances in any of the films that I saw at Sundance. I've always liked Crudup, but he just shined on the screen in this movie. It's easily one of the best things that he's done.

One of the things that I loved about the movie was the music. It was wonderfully breathtaking. It's through this music that you get to know the type of person that Sam's son was. You really come to care about his son through the course of the film, and the music plays a huge part of it. I can't wait to get a hold of the soundtrack.

These is a moment in the film that hit me in the gut. The movie got a lot of mixed reviews at the festival. Everyone like the first half of the movie, but didn't seem to care for the second half. Having seen the film, I understand why some people didn't like the second half. The audience is kind of forced to make a choice about how they feel. I actually loved the movie as a whole, and I really liked how the movie challenged me emotionally.

This is a movie that I would recommend to everyone. It's just one of those movies that has to be seen, and for those of you who like good music, then it's a must watch as the movie centers around the music that Sam's son wrote. I'm not saying all of you will like it, but I still think it's worth your time to see it. I'm pretty confident the film will get a theatrical release.

Here's the official synopsis:

Sam is a former high-profile advertising executive whose life has been torn apart by the tragic death of his son. Off the grid, living on a docked sailboat, he drowns his pain in alcohol. When Sam discovers a box filled with his son's demo tapes and lyrics, his own child’s musical talent is a revelation for him, a grieving father who felt he’d been absent from his son’s life. Communing with his deceased son’s dashed dreams, Sam learns each song and eventually musters the will to play one at a local bar. When Quentin, a young musician in the audience, is captivated by the song, the unlikely duo form a rock band that becomes surprisingly popular and changes both of their lives.

A searing performance from Billy Crudup, as Sam, leads an exemplary cast that includes Anton Yelchin as Quentin, plus Selena Gomez and Laurence Fishburne. Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison’s potent screenplay was the launching pad for acclaimed actor William H. Macy’s glorious feature-directing debut. Rudderless is a poignant musical drama about the power of a parent’s love.

Ever since Dark Horse announced their Tomb Raider comic, I've been eager to see what Gail Simone (Wonder Woman, The Movement, Welcome to Tranquility) has in store for our favorite heroine. As we get a bit closer to the impending release, the publishing house has bestowed a preview of the inaugural issue, and it's definitely compelling stuff. The first arc might see Lara not just dealing with the physical trauma from the events of the game, but also the mental if the preview is anything to go by. Also noteworthy is the delightful art by Nicolas Daniel Selma, and I can't wait to see more of his work. Check out the preview below and let us know what you think!

Here are a few image scans from the latest issue of Empire, featuring more photos from Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past. They feature Quicksilver, Magneto, Wolverine, Beast, Xavier, Mystique, Storm, Toad, Magneto, and more.

I'm not sure if I like Quicksilver's look. I like the actor they got to play him, but the character design just seems off. Apparently, he's supposed to look really cool in action though, so that's something to look forward to seeing. It will be interesting when we get to compare it to Joss Whedon's Quicksilver design for Avengers: Age of Ultron

The movie is set to be released on May 23rd!
