MAD MEN Season 5 Teaser Trailers - Everyone is Back

$

AMC has released a bunch of promo trailers for Mad Men season 5 announcing that all of our favorite characters will be back to bring on the drama. The characters included in the teasers are for Joan (Christina Hendricks), Roger (John Slattery), Peggy (Elisabeth Moss), Betty (January Jones), Pete (Vincent Kartheiser), and of course, Don (Jon Hamm).

There's very little known about what is going to unfold this season, but like every season so far... I'm sure it will be good.

Synopsis:

Set in 1960s New York, the sexy, stylized and provocative AMC drama Mad Men follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising, an ego-driven world where key players make an art of the sell.

The series revolves around the conflicted world of Don Draper (Hamm), the biggest ad man (and ladies man) in the business, and his colleagues at the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce Advertising Agency. As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels. The series also depicts authentically the roles of men and women in this era while exploring the true human nature beneath the guise of 1960s traditional family values.

Mad Men returns to AMC on March 25th, and I can't wait!

MEN IN BLACK 3 - New Promo Poster

Here's a new low resolution promo poster for Men in Black 3 featuring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Josh Brolin. It's kind of crazy to think that it's been ten years since we last saw the MIB in action. All I can say is that the comeback better be worth it! I'm excited to see Brolin taken on the role of a young Tommy Lee Jone--it looks like he completely nails the part in the trailer that was released. Click here if you haven't seen the trailer yet.

The film was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and Alice EveEmma ThompsonRip TornJohnny Knoxville, and Jemaine Clement are also featured in the movie. Men in Black 3 opens on May 25th, 2012. What actor are you most excited to see in the movie?

Here's the synopsis:

In Men in Black 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back… in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

Paul Walker To Star in SKYSCRAPER

Paul Walker is set to star in another action thriller. Comingsoon reports that the Fast and Furious actor has been cast in Universal's Skyscraper. The film is the first project from his newly signed two-year, first-look production deal with Universal for the actor's Laguna Ridge Pictures. The concept is based on an original idea by Mike Sobel. Walker will also exec produce with Neal Moritz's Original Films producing.

Universal has done very well with Walker's last film, Fast Five. That film has grossed over $630 million dollars worldwide and is one of the biggest films in Universal's history. Walker is slated to start shooting Fast 6, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 24, 2013.

Walker is also going to star and exec produce Hours, alongside producer Peter Safran's Safran Company. The thriller is set in post-Katrina New Orleans and is slated to begin production in April.

Walker seems to always play the same role, but I like most of his movies. I enjoy films that are full of action and fluff. When I go to a movie, I enjoy escaping for a couple of hours. Not much is known about Skyscraper, but this will likely be a role that is perfect for Walker. Do you think Walker is best suited for action thrillers?

AMERICAN ASSASSIN Adaptation Gets a New Director

Director Ed Zwick has officially been replaced by Jeffrey Nachmanoff as the director of the upcoming adaptation of Vince Flynn's best-selling novel American Assassin. This is actually kind of a shame, I was looking forward to Zwick's vision of this story. This is the same director that brought us Glory, The Last Samurai, and Blood Diamond, all of which were really good movies. According to Deadline, he had to leave the project so he could focus on another film called The Great Wall, which will possibly star Henry Cavill.

The only film I've seen from Nachmanoff was the Don Cheadle movie Traitor, which was a pretty good forgettable movie. He most recently directed a couple of episodes of Homeland, and he also co-wrote The Day After Tomorrow with Roland Emmerich, which doesn't help his cause very much.

The new thriller is being developed by CBS films, and here's a Here is a description of the story:

'American Assassin' tells the story of legendary CIA agent Mitch Rapp. Long before he began hunting terrorists, Rapp was a gifted college scholar/athlete. Then, tragedy struck and Rapp was recruited into the nation’s most elite covert operations program. After completing training designed to teach the kind of lethal skills necessary to target our most dangerous enemies, here and abroad, he is a man reborn with a mission of retribution.

I haven't read this book series, but it sounds like it could make for a solid movie. I'll be looking forward to seeing what Nachmanoff does with it.

THE WALKING DEAD - Visual Effects Breakdown

AMC has released an interesting video breakdown of the visual effects for The Walking Dead. I will warn you this will kind of take all of the magic out of the show. The visual effects play a bigger role in the series than you might think, and I was surprised by some of the stuff revealed. The video also has a good amount of bloody zombie head shot deaths. The Walking Dead remains one of my favorite shows on TV, and I'm looking forward to more of it in the years to come.

The CGI effects for the show are created by Stargate Studios. Check out the SFX reel below, and let us know what the biggest SFX surprise was for you was in the video!

Playboy and Virgin Galactic Release Concept Photos for Men's Space Club

Earlier this year we wrote about a sci fi inspired strip club opening in Las Vegas, and now Fox News tells us Playboy and Virgin Galactic are looking to bring a luxurious men's club to space?! The space grotto of sorts is designed to provide entertainment to those wealthy enough to afford tickets ($200,000) for Virgin Galactic's commercial space program set to launch later this year.

Among other features, there is to be a zero gravity dance floor, a spinning diner so visitors can eat their food without floating about, a game room, and Playboy bunnies flying on jet packs and serving drinks! Zero gravity dancing does sound like a good time and all, but I can't help draw some parallels between this and the Titanic (luxury craft, first of it's kind, reserved for the wealthy). If it does happen, let's just hope James Cameron's descendant makes a record breaking film about it.

ROBOCOP Lead Role Offered to THE KILLING's Joel Kinnaman

$

MGM may have found its Robocop lead. According to Deadline, Joel Kinnaman has been offered the title role in the remake set to be directed by Jose Padilha (Elite Squad). Kinnaman is a great actor that I've enjoyed watching in AMC's TV series The Killing, but he also had a role in the recent Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds film Safe House, which I haven't seen yet. He will take on the role that was originally played by Peter Weller in the classic 1987 movie.

Here's what Padilha had to say about his plans of the remake in a previous interview,

Wars in the future are going to be fought with drones. We won’t send a plane with a pilot in, it will be drone. It’s getting that way now and ten years from now that’s how wars are going to be fought. But what if a drone goes wrong – who is to blame then? Do you blame the drone? And that problem asks if you can you consider a robot guilty of a crime. Or is it the corporation that made the robot that is guilty? How do you fight back against drones when you don’t have drones?

I think Kinnaman is a solid choice for the role. He seems like he could easily pull off a badass robot cop. What are your thoughts on this casting decision?

LEGO Millennium Falcon CGI Stop Motion Assembly - 3 Years in the Making

What have you been doing the last three years? Me personally... I've been raising kids, I've gone through 3 different jobs, and I've been building up the GeekTyrant empire. During that time LEGO and Star Wars enthusiast Francisco Prieto has been building this incredible looking Millennium Falcon made out of 10179 LEGO bricks. He did this just to see how it would all go together so that he could then create a CGI recreation of how he built it. He modeled all of the 5,195 Lego bricks in his computer, and then went through the torture of rebuilding it again on his computer to create this video.

Assembly of the Lego set 10179 from Star Wars Ultimate collector series in stop motion in 3d. Created using 3ds max and V-ray. A very long work over 3 years, modelling all the pieces by myself. and rendered frame by frame.

Check out the video below, and let us know what you wish you had been doing over the last 3 years.

PROJECT X - Insane New TV Spot NSFW

Here is a new Project X TV spot, thanks to IGN. Todd Phillips (The Hangover) produced and Nima Nourizadeh directed this film about a teenagers party that gets our of control. The spot is definitely not safe for work.

Here is the synopsis:

“Project X” follows three seemingly anonymous high school seniors as they attempt to finally make a name for themselves. Their idea is innocent enough: let’s throw a party that no one will forget… but nothing could prepare them for this party. Word spreads quickly as dreams are ruined, records are blemished and legends are born. “Project X” is a warning to parents and police everywhere. This film has been rated R for crude and sexual content throughout, nudity, drugs, drinking, pervasive language, reckless behavior and mayhem-all involving teens.

Project X arrives in theaters on March 2nd, 2012. What would you do if your party got out of control and your parents' house was destroyed?

3. Not a requirement, but feel free to follow us on - Twitter / Facebook / Google+ / GeekTyrant.TV

Entries accepted until Thursday, March 1. One (1) winner will be selected by GeekTyrant editors.

Here is a description of the show:

Through ancient religious texts, personal sightings and exquisitely constructed wonders come the belief by some that ancient astronauts once inhabited our world among, and pre-dating the existence of, human beings and that they will indeed come again.  In Season 4 of Ancient Aliens, H2 resumes the investigation of these curious marvels while questioning truth vs. phenomenon via 75 million years of the most credible alien evidence here on Earth as seen in a myriad of forms from biblical texts to massive stone ruins aligned in perfect Pythagorean sequence.

1.  THE MAYAN CONSPIRACY - Who were the Mayans?  And what happened to them?   Known by scientists and researchers as the most advanced early civilization in the western world - an examination of ancient Maya ruins, artifacts and hieroglyphs reveals astonishing new evidence of early contact with star travelers.

2.  THE DOOMSDAY PROPHECIES - Some interpreters of the infamous ancient Mayan calendar claim that world will come to an end on December 21, 2012.  Researchers examine the archeological evidence, as well as myths and legends of the Maya that suggest contact with sky gods and supernatural beings in the ancient past.  Did star beings influence the creation of the Maya calendar, and might this really be a warning of a future doomsday on Earth?

3.  THE GREYS - Who are the beings with big heads and giant eyes that seem to have been visiting our planet for millennia?   Known by researchers as the “greys,” these mysterious beings have been depicted in rock-art and carved stone figures throughout the ages and all over the world.  Who are they, what planet do they come from, and what do they want?

4.  ALIENS AND MEGA-DISASTERS  - There are numerous historical, religious and mythic accounts of ancient civilizations being wiped out by volcanoes, earthquakes, floods, and meteors.   Did god, or nature bring about such disasters?   Or is it possible that celestial beings had a hand in the ancient world’s catastrophic disasters?

5.  THE NASA CONNECTION - NASA scientists, former astronauts and secret government files all point to the conclusion that there has been contact with extraterrestrial life in the past.  Researchers examine this and other recent scientific evidence that may provide proof of alien contact in both the recent and ancient past.

6.  SECRETS OF THE PYRAMIDS - For thousands of years, pyramids were the largest structures on Earth.   The best known were constructed in Egypt and Central America, but others have been found all around the world, including in China, Africa and Indonesia. But what purpose did the pyramids serve? Researchers explore strange similarities between all pyramids, as well as the geographic, strategic and otherworldly connections between these mysterious monumental structures.

7.  ALIENS AND BIGFOOT - People on every continent have claimed to see the footprints of Bigfoot.  And ancient myths and legends speak of an ape-like giant stalking the earth.  What if, as Ancient Astronaut theorists believe, there is evidence to connect Bigfoot with an alien species that once visited Earth in the distant past?

8.   THE DA VINCI CONSPIRACY - Might an examination of Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterful paintings, highly technical hand-drawn sketches, and private journals reveal knowledge of otherworldly technology and extraterrestrial beings?

9.  THE TIME TRAVELERS  - Is it possible that sightings of alien beings or UFOs may actually be evidence of time travelers from the future?  And might ancient astronauts actually be time travelers from our future?  Scientists explore the theoretical possibility of time travel.  How can it be achieved?  And what might people from 10,000 years in the future look like?

10.   ALIENS AND DINOSAURS - Angkor Wat, Cambodia, is the world’s largest ancient religious temple.  Within its megalithic ruins, researches have discovered a depiction of a species of dinosaur – a stegosaurus.  But how could the ancients have had knowledge of animals that mainstream science says died out billions of years ago?   Why are dinosaurs extinct?   Did an alien race of beings kill off the dinosaurs to make room for humankind?

11.  THE LOST ALIEN CITY OF PUMA PUNKU - At nearly 14,000 years old, the ruins of Puma Punku are the oldest and most baffling on the face of the Earth.  No one knows who designed and built this complex of sophisticated inter-locking blocks, and then vanished.  Researchers investigate the ruins on-location in Peru and present new computer analyses.  Forensic evidence on the ground, together with local myths and legends, suggest this site may have been designed and even once inhabited by a species of extraterrestrials.

12.  ALIENS AND COVERUPS - In 1980, two young military men were sent into a UK forest to investigate strange lights. They reportedly encountered a space craft of unknown origin.  When one of the men touched it, he claims to have received telepathically a long sequence of binary code, which he later wrote down and translated.  The military ordered them to never speak about the incident.  Why do such UFO encounters continue to be kept under wraps, and what might they reveal about our ancient past?

13.  ALIENS AND ELECTRICITY - Egyptian hieroglyphs depict the use of light bulbs in tombs and secret chambers.  And batteries may have been discovered among artifacts from Mesopotamia.  Did the Ancients understand electricity, and if so, how did they discover this technology?  Might they have had help from extraterrestrials?

14.  THE EINSTEIN FACTOR  - Was Albert Einstein a genius?  Or was he superhuman?  Was his genius ‘of this world,’ or was it ‘otherworldly?’  Is it possible, as Ancient Astronaut theorists believe, of an extraterrestrial connection to the scientific genius of famous historical figures such as Albert Einstein, Galileo, Archimedes, and Aristotle?

15.  DESTINATION ORION - Why were ancient civilizations around the world so focused on the Orion constellation?  While scientists site many earthly connections, researchers suggest this point in the night sky may have been a so-called Stargate, or entry point, for alien life forms.   If extraterrestrials have been visiting Earth for thousands of years, might they have originated from the Orion Nebula?

The show airs on H2 at 9pm on Fridays. Check out their new Facebook App, which allows fans to decipher the Ancient Aliens Code for a chance to win $10k in addition to customizing their own crop circle by uploading a picture.

JOHN CARTER - Extended Clip, Sizzle Reel, and Disney Scrambles to Get People Excited

$

0

Disney has released a extended film clip and sizzle reel for their upcoming expensive big budget Andrew Stanton-directed sci-fi epic, John Carter. There's not a lot of positive buzz surrounding this movie, and that's exactly the opposite of what I was hoping for. As a fan of the novels, I was looking forward to seeing this world brought to life. Unfortunately, nothing I've seen has me excited about it.

I've been saying from the beginning that the worst marketing decision Disney made for this movie is changing the title from John Carter of Mars to just John Carter. And insider recently spoke to THR explaining, "You lose any kind of scope the movie has. John Carter of Mars gave the movie context." I completely agree, and it's one of the many things that could end up biting Disney in the ass. The movie is said to have had a budget of $275 million dollars, which is crazy! And the studio obviously wants to make a profit. The insider explains, "this is a huge movie. Everyone's focus right now is merely on getting as many people to see the movie as possible."

It seems like everything Disney has released for the film has been met with ridicule instead of excitement, and that's not good. As the report points out, the movie is "drawing comparisons (not in a good way) to Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace, while an indistinct billboard campaign has left some unclear that the film is an Avatar-like 3D epic." A rival studio marketing head adds, "They are doing an extraordinary job of not selling what they think it is."

I have a feeling that this isn't going to be the hit movie Disney hoped it would be. To combat all the negativity surrounding the film, Disney will be "pushing out a new TV campaign loaded with storyline-heavy spots. The ads will strive to better explain how Carter makes his way to Mars and discovers superhuman powers when he joins the fight to save a Martian princess. At the same time, the studio has seen an uptick in the film's attractiveness to men in the most recent tracking data. An action-heavy trailer will go out in front of Act of Valor on Feb. 24." Read more about all the details surrounding Disney's mistakes on this film here.

Unfortunately for Disney, I think it's too late. I think everyone's minds are already made up on the film, and I don't think anything else they release will win anyone over that has already been turned off. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, watch the new video released below.

Are you excited about John Carter? Do you think it is going to be a hit or a flop?

Christian Bale To Get Revenge in OUT OF THE FURNACE

The Dark Knight is seeking revenge in a new movie! THR reports that Christian Bale is in talks to star in Out of the Furnace, which is being directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) for Relativity.

The project was once known as The Low Dweller and is based on a spec script by Brad Ingelsby. It centers on "a man released after serving four years in prison. His hopes for a peaceful homecoming are thwarted when he sets out to find the man who brutally murdered his younger brother to avenge his death."

The script was in high demand after it was first written in 2008. Directors like Rupert Sanders and Ridley Scott were interested, as was Mark Wahlberg. Scott is currently producing the project under his Scott Free banner. Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way and Jenifer Davisson Killoran are set to produce, with Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment executive producing.

Bale was close to a deal to star in the film with Sanders in the director's chair but had to drop out due to scheduling reasons. Robert Duvall, who appeared in Cooper’s Crazy Heart, is thought to be starring as well, although no deals have been made. Bale will likely film this in the spring, before doing press for The Dark Knight Rises and shooting Terrence Malick's drama Knight of Cups.
I always have enjoyed revenge dramas like this. One of my favorites has to be Revenge starring Kevin Costner. I think that Bale will be good in this role. What is your favorite revenge-themed movie?

Sylvester Stallone's BULLET TO THE HEAD Pulled From Schedule

$

0

Fans will have to wait to see Sylvester Stallone on screen again. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has pulled Bullet To The Head from its release schedule, and it will not be released on April 13 as originally planned. The film is from Joel Silver’s Dark Castle, and Warner Bros. is only distributing and marketing the film. Since it's not a studio-produced movie, it's easier for Warner Bros. to move its release. This is likely a smart move, since that release date is already crowded. Fox’s The Three Stooges and Lionsgate’s The Cabin In The Woods are both scheduled for that weekend.

Bullet is directed by Walter Hill and based on a French graphic novel. The story centers on "a hitman (Stallone) who forms an alliance with a cop to exact revenge on the killer of their respective partners." The cast also includes Jason Momoa, Sung Kang and Christian Slater. The good news for Stallone fans is that The Expendables 2 is slated for release on April 17.

This makes sense--I don't think that the world can handle two Stallone movies back-to-back. What movie are you looking forward to more, Bullet to the Head or The Expendables 2?
