FROM DUSK TILL DAWN TV Series Trailer and Poster

FDTD-New-Poster.jpg

The El Rey network has released the first poster and teaser trailer for Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series. I've got to say, I'm not overly impressed with what I'm seeing, but we'll see how it turns out. I'll give it a chance to win me over.

Based on the film of the same name, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series is a supernatural crime saga centered around bank robber, Seth Gecko (Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard "Richie" Gecko (Holtz), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Garcia) after a bank heist left several people dead. While on the run to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former minister Jacob Fuller (Patrick) and his family, whom they take hostage. Using the family RV to cross the border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club that is populated by vampires. They are forced to fight until dawn in order to get out alive. The series deepens the tone of the film, adds new characters and backstories and expands the Mesoamerican mythology behind the creatures inside the club.

The series will have 10-episodes and stars Adrienne Palicki, Jesse Garcia, Don Johnson, Robert Patrick, Madison Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo, and Eiza González. It's set to premiere on March 11th, 2014!

First Look at Bill Paxton in Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in! I haven't really been enjoying Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. My interest has faded, and I honestly think the show should be a lot better, with more interesting characters. Well, it looks like Bill Paxton has joined the series for a four-episode character arc. He will play Agent John Garrett, and according to Joss Whedon,

"We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger."

Which is something the show has definitely been missing. Executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen added,

"He is the type who wants to stay out in the field no matter how high-level he gets."

Agent John Garrett first appeared in the Frank Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz comic Electra: Assassin, in which S.H.I.E.L.D gave him some cybernetic upgrades after suffering injuries in the line of duty. Who knows, maybe we'll see some of that in the show. Whedon did say though...

"when Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn't like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He's going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two."

All I know is Paxton in the man, and I'm going to have to watch the episodes that he's in. Thanks to TV Guide we have our first look at the character above.

Trailers for DOOMED! The Untold Story of Roger Corman's "The Fantastic Four"

Back in 1994, legendary B-Movie filmmaker Roger Corman produced one of Marvel's first movies. It was a feature film adaptation of The Fantastic Four, which at the time never saw the light of day. It has since been bootlegged and leaked, and has gained a cult following over the years.

Director Marty Langford has created a documentary called DOOMED!: The Untold Story of Roger Corman's "The Fantastic Four,"  which gives us the full behind the scenes story of the film's troubled production and release.

Here's an explanation of why the documentary was made, and then you can check out a couple of trailers for it below, giving you a little taste of what the doc will entail.

There are 336 names in the end crawl credits of the 1994 film, ‘The Fantastic Four’.  And though owners of the bootleg version of the film may appreciate them, the artists and craftspeople who created the movie have never been properly recognized.

And that’s too bad.

‘The Fantastic Four’ has never been viewed legally by anyone in the world, other than those directly involved in the production. The negative presumably sits, to this day, on some shelf in some facility, both gathering dust and fated to become it.

So – what are we going to do about that?

For starters, we have interview commitments from EVERY principal cast and crew member. And based on the pre-interviews we’ve conducted, this documentary is going to be explosive!

-When did the cast and crew discover the film would be shelved?
-What changed from script to production based on character rights (just who *is* The Jeweler?), budget, and time constraints?
-How much control did Marvel wield over the movie? Before it was made and after it was shelved?
-Is a legitimate release still possible?
-Who are today’s A-list actors who auditioned but didn’t make the cut?

For the first time in over 20 years, the TRUE account of this controversial cult classic will be revealed!

And it’s a hell of a story.

Dexter and Chuck co-star Yvonne Strahovski is set to star alongside Kiefer Sutherland in the upcoming limited series 24: Live Another Day. The story catches up with Jack Bauer several years after the events in the final season of 24. Strahovski is set to play a character named Kate Morgan, who is a brilliant but impulsive CIA field operative in London. She's a solid actress, and she'll make a great addition to the series!

The series is set to premiere on Monday, May 5th at 8 pm, and it will launch with a two-hour premiere. The series will shoot in London, and it's going to be great to see Bauer back in action! For years there was talk of a movie, and it almost happened. Then the idea went back to developing it as a limited series, which in my opinion is a much better idea, because they get to tell more than just a two hour story.

I've always been a huge fan of 24, and I couldn't be more excited that the series is coming back! If it does well, who knows… maybe we'll get another season!

Fantastic Fantasy Action Illustration - BEAUTIFUL SCARS

Check out this cool fantasy action art created by Creature Box for a book called Beautiful Scars. I love the illustration of these two warriors fighting off some kind of nightmarish mythical creatures. Here's a little story information on the book,

“Every scar tells a story…they are the signs of a life well lived.”

The book tells the story of Ridley Shaw as he explains to his granddaughter the origins of his scars, each one gained through either a sad or uplifting adventure. Those stories become the basis of a journey into both his past and the soaring heights of imagination, as his granddaughter learns that scars are just one more way to hold on to a memory.

These Twitter-centric trailers for Muppets Most Wanted have been really funny. They include some fake hype from the social network site, outrage that the film wasn't nominated for 247 awards, a Twitter argument, and some spam. I can only hope the movie will be just as entertaining as these spots. The movie comes out on March 21st, and this is really some great, fun movie marketing. So enjoy!

Jason Momoa Says He's Not Involved with BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Back in December a rumor hit the Internet that Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) was in talks to join Zack Snyder's Batman Vs. Superman. There was speculation that the part he would play could be the villain Doomsday or Martian Manhunter. Even though the news came from a reliable source, Momoa is now saying that he's not involved with the film. In a recent interview with IGN this is what he had to say when asked about it,

"It's just rumors. I want to say something amazing, but I can't comment on rumors. It's flattering. I'm not involved in it."

My question is why would he want to say something amazing, if there wasn't anything amazing to be said? He goes on to speculate on how the rumor got started,

"Maybe that's how it came out. Maybe someone said, 'You should be in this!' and I said, 'Yeah that would be great!' And it just went too far."

If he's involved great! If he's not… oh well. Too bad for him. I could see him being cast in a movie like this, though. He seems like the type of actor that Snyder would hire for a big guy role. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out. Regardless of who is cast in the film, I just hope it turns out to be awesome!

Michael Douglas Will Play Hank Pym in Marvel’s ANT-MAN

Marvel has landed another legendary actor for their cinematic universe! They've cast Michael Douglas as Hank Pym in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man! Douglas joins Paul Rudd, and he's going to be awesome in it! Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had this to say in a statement,

“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”

According to Variety, "Marvel had pursued Douglas early on for the part, but the actor was cautious until sources said he had a change of heart over the holidays." There are still no official plot details for the movie, but I couldn't be happier to see Douglas actually take on this role!

Back in December we learned that Dominic Cooper (Captain America) had joined the cast of director Duncan Jones' fantasy epic Warcraft, based on the massive online game. He's currently in production on the movie and in a recent interview with IGN he was asked about the tone of the film and if it had Game of Thrones-like elements. This was the actor's reply,

"It's a mix, it's a real mix of those worlds crashing together. I don't know the game that well. I've come to learn that there is more than 13 million playing the game online, so now I can understand the secrecy around the script and the film. It's a massive adventure."

In a separate interview with Collider, he talked about his excitement for the film, saying,

"I’m so excited to work with [Duncan Jones] and the whole project is just massive and kind of exciting. It’s really, really cool. Really good script [I'll be in] Vancouver for a long time. It’s a very long shoot."

As of right now the film also stars Ben Foster (Lone Survivor), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), Toby Kebbell (RocknRolla), and Rob Kazinsky (Pacific Rim). The movie will be released on March 11th, 2016, and you know what? It's going to be epic!

The latest TV spot for Warner Bros. The LEGO Movie features even more footage from the film including the first footage of Channing Tatum's Superman talking. I've also included a new poster of Chris Pratt's Emmet screaming. There's been a ridiculous amount of character posters for this movie, and I imagine they are just going to keep rolling in. The movie will be released on on February 7th, and I'm excited about it!

Video of People Trying New Edible Play-Doh

Let's be honest, we've all tried to eat Play-Doh at one point in our lives, right? No? So it was just me? Damn. It's a good thing it was non-toxic or a lot of us might not be here! I don't know why we ate it. The stuff was nasty as hell! Now there's an actual flavored edible Play-Doh type product you can eat.

It comes from the children's art and toy manufacturer, AMAV, and it's an FDA-approved-for-consumption alternative to the nasty doughy products that already exist. The dough is called Edible Sweet Art, it comes in five colors, and it's made with a ton of sugar. According to Gizmodo, "each of the five colors (or one 60 gram serving size) comes in at 250 calories total thanks to a whopping 44 grams of sugar—or almost three times the maximum recommended daily allotment for kids aged four to eight."

I don't know what crazy parents would want to buy that for their kids, but whatever. So what flavors do these colors represent? Gizmodo did a little video test and had people taste the Edible Sweet Art. You can watch that video below, but this was the outcome of the test...

What it was they were or weren't enjoying, however, was a little less certain; other than chocolate (brown) and strawberry (pink), we finished our little experiment with no consensus on the three remaining flavors whatsoever. Was the blue coconut? Is yellow supposed to taste like Pine Sol? Why does white taste like poison? Who knows! Children would subsist on a diet of worms and other people's fingernails if given the option, though, so there's every possibility in the world that their coarse, uncultured palates would find the grainy-textured goop to be mouthwatering. But for everyone else over the age of 12 with visions of reliving their childhood except, you know, better, we recommend not trying to change the past. Never mess with a classic—you're better off just eating Play-Doh.

It really doesn't look or sound like something we'd want to try. I've also included a little commercial for the stuff.

Trailer for the Crazy Violent Sundance Thriller KILLERS

Here's the trailer for a great looking film called Killers, which is set to show at The Sundance Film Festival. This is the second feature from directors Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto, who also directed a segment from V/H/S/2 called "Safe Haven." It also comes from the producers of The Raid. This movie looks like it's going to be packed full of some crazy violence. Here's the synopsis,

Mr. Nomura is an eerily handsome, sharply dressed, sociopathic serial killer who preys on the women of Tokyo. In Jakarta, a world-weary journalist named Bayu finds himself unexpectedly falling into vigilantism after brutally killing two sadistic robbers. When each posts videos of his violent sprees online, the pair find one another on the Internet and begin a toxic and competitive duel. While Bayu clings to the hope that he can resume a normal life, Nomura continues to spill blood without remorse. Killing, advises Nomura, is something everyone ought to consider.

This is on my list of films to see while I'm up at Sundance, so I'll make sure let you all know how it is. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer!

MAGIC: THE GATHERING Headed to the Big Screen

We've got another big, epic fantasy game world coming to the big screen! 20th Century Fox has closed a deal with Hasbro to acquire the rights to the fantasy card game Magic: The Gathering. The studio has hired writer and producer Simon Kinberg to help develop the project into a feature film. He's previously helped in developing the X-Men and Fantastic Four universes for the studio.

The plan is to adapt it into an epic film franchise like The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. This is one of the games I played a ton with my friends growing up in the '90s. I haven't played in years, though. I don't really even remember how to play it, but I did enjoy it. I just didn't have the time to keep up with it.

After World of Warcraft was picked up to get a movie adaptation I knew that Magic: The Gathering wasn't far behind. The game was introduced in 1993, and it involves cards featuring a bunch of fantasy races, wizards, creatures, weapons, and spells that the players use to defeat each other. The cards and characters varied in strength, and some of the cards are incredibly valuable.

There's so much awesome potential here, they have a ton of stuff to work with, and I'm really excited about the possibilities. If this thing turns out to be successful, we could have another badass fantasy franchise on our list of things to follow and watch! I'm hoping for the best.

GOTHAM TV Series Will Also Tell a Batman Origin Story

A few months ago Fox announced that they would develop a series called Gotham that would focus on the roots of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that put Gotham on the map. It didn't seem like the series would include Bruce Wayne, but we've now learned that the series will also tell a Batman origin story.

In a recent interview with Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly, he explained,

"This is not one of the things where you bought a franchise and then none of characters people know. We will follow Bruce Wayne right up until the point where he gets interesting."

Which is basically kind of like what was done with Smallville and Clark Kent. It's a solid formula that could really work. He goes on to say that they are looking to cast a young boy–around 12 years old–to play Bruce, and that he won't put on the cape or cowl until the end of the series. Reilly went on to say,

"The show won't have a bunch of characters you've never heard of. We see Detective Gordon, before he's a commissioner, all the characters you know, Bruce Wayne, the Penguin, all of them. It's Gotham teetering on the edge, and we see what makes these characters become who they are, [like] Catwoman. It's an operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality to it."

All this new information makes me even more excited about what they are going to do with the series! It sounds like it going to focus on the decline of Gotham city and the rise of the villains whom Batman will eventually have to protect it from.

HBO's TRUE DETECTIVE - Twisted Yet Beautiful

hbos-true-detective-episode-1-review.jpg

HBO's new show, True Detective, premiered last night, and boy, was it something else.

Detectives on TV are nothing new. In fact it has been done to the point where I thought nothing new could spring out of the genre. Never have I been more wrong, for this take on the detective story is wholly unique.

The series takes place in Louisiana and stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as Detectives Martin Hart and Rust Cohle, respectively, in the cliched relationship of mismatched partners. Hart is a family man with a wife and two daughters, while Cohle is more of a sulking loner. He reminded me of a modern day philosopher, yet very cynical of the dark world around him. The story is split in to two different timelines, one during the '90s in which Hart and Cohle are investigating the somewhat satanic killing of a young woman named Dora Lange. The other timeline takes place during 2012 when the two men are being interviewed separately (as the two men have not spoken to each other for ten years) for help on a new case that suggests the case that started in '95 may have never been closed, or maybe the wrong person was put in jail.

Right from the opening credits you know you are in store for something very different. There is something very twisted yet beautiful about True Detective. The cinematography is gorgeous and yet a lot of what is seen on screen is ugly, dark, and somewhat horrific.

It's that clash of themes–beauty and terror–that bolsters True Detective significantly.

The twin storylines also give this detective story a very fresh perspective. Cohle is a very different man in 2012 than the pragmatic daydreamer (another clash of themes) we see in '95. Hart is a married man in '95 and yet we find out he is divorced in 2012. This way of storytelling creates a very cool way for the viewer to interact with the show. It may answer questions asked in the '95 investigation but at the same time raise more. Another strong point in this show is the focus on characters rather than the murder. This show, on top of being a murder mystery, is very much a character study of the detectives. The focus is on these two very unique yet slightly damaged individuals with the murder that unifies them taking a backseat.

Even though the show is very dark and heavy, there is a recurring levity throughout as Woody Harrelson does a great job of delivering humorous jabs at McConaughey's character. Another clash of themes: as these men are embroiled in a horrific situation, Hart can still create a moment of laughter.

True Detective is dark, disturbing, and ugly, and I cannot wait to tune in next week.

Most of us have gone through a rough break up in our lives. I'm not a big fan of break ups, but it happens. It's just a part of that crazy roller coaster of life. This is a fun comedy short called All's Fair that brings out the humorous elements of a break up. The short was developed by Ulterior Productions, and this is a note from the director, Todd Strauss-Schulson,

I went through a pretty rough break up this year and it was not great. I wrote and made this in the midst of all that. It's a tombstone and love letter and I hope you enjoy it.

The movie has such great writing. It was funny and heartfelt, and I loved the ending. I 'm sure you'll all be able to enjoy this short.

Marvel Wants Johnny Depp for DR. STRANGE!

Our friends at Latino-Review unleashed a huge rumor, saying that Marvel wants Johnny Depp to take on the role of Dr. Strange in their upcoming live-action adaptation!

A very reliable source for the site is saying that Depp has already taken a meeting with the studio, and apparently the actor is very interested in pursuing it. It's not really a huge surprise that this could be happening, after all Depp already has a very tight relationship with Marvel's owner… Disney. He tends to make the studio tons of money… when the movie is good. Unfortunately, The Lone Ranger didn't live up to anyone's expectations. He's also a long time fan of Strange, which doesn't hurt the situation.

See-i-am-a-magician-P-johnny-dep886p-23115456-500-428.png

Depp is currently signed on to do a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but if he ends up taking Dr. Strange that studio would shift around the production schedule for it so he could do both. This means that they are looking to start production on the comic adaptation fairly soon.

As you know, Marvel movie deals with actors are insane, so it will be interesting to see if they are able to work one out with Depp. The site also says that if he takes on the role the script that has been written will have to go through an overhaul, especially since the current script centers on a 30-year-old Strange, and Depp is 50. I don't think Marvel or Disney will have any problems making the changes they need to make if they actually get Depp officially on board.

Dr. Strange is going to be part of Marvel's phase three plan, and will most likely be released sometime in 2016. You never know when or where the character will show up though! There's always a chance we'll see the character show up in a post-credits sequence of Avenger: Age of Ultron.

As you know, this is Hollywood, and plans can always change. But Latino-Review has some amazing sources at Marvel and a great track record for their scoops, so Depp is definitely in the running at this time. I hope the studio can work out a deal, because I think it would be pretty amazing to see Depp in the role of Strange!

I'm excited to see how this all plays out!

Here's a UK teaser trailer for the Tom Hiddleston vampire thriller Only Lovers Left Alive. The movie was directed by Jim Jarmusch and also stars Tilda Swinton, Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt, and Anton Yelchin. I've been looking forward to seeing this movie, and I'll get my chance at Sundance this year! The movie looks like a dark and moody vampire film, but apparently it is also supposed to be funny.

Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?

The movie opens in theaters on February 21st in the U.K. and April 11th in the U.S.
