Michael B. Jordan Up for the Role of Richard Pryor in Biopic

michael-b-jordan-up-for-the-role-of-richard-pryor-in-biopic.jpg

There's been a Richard Pryor biopic in the works since 2009, and for the longest time Marlon Wayans and Eddie Murphy have been linked to the project. According to THR those actors are still in the running for the role, but it also adds Chronicle's Michael B. Jordan to the list of actors up for the role. Jordan, who starred in Fruitvale Station, is the frontrunner though.

The site also reports that The Butler director Lee Daniels is in negotiations to direct the film for The Weinstein Company, which is financing the project. The movie will depict Pryor’s controversial brand of comedy and his battle with drugs. Pryor's widow, Jennifer Pryor, is also producing the film, and she "brings to the project more than 50 pages of Pryor's personal journals, which offer a glimpse into his brilliant, but dark, mind."

Daniels is a great director, and Jordan is a very talented young actor who I think could actually pull this off. I hope he's the one who lands the role.

The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

San Diego Comic-Con Only Selling Single Day Passes for 2014

san-diego-comic-con-only-selling-single-day-passes-for-2014.jpg

In about six months, San Diego Comic-Con is going to start blowing geeks' minds. But as you know by now, going to the con is no easy task. If you want to attend you have to go through the headaches of making it happen. It's not easy getting tickets these days!  And now they have made things a little more difficult. This year they will not be selling four day passes. You will have to buy the tickets individually. There's no doubt this is going to annoy the fans of the epic geek convention.

This is the official announcement from their web-site:

New for 2014! Only single day badges will be sold. The Preview Night badge option may only be purchased if you buy a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday badge. Preview Night is not a stand alone badge option. As in 2013, anyone who purchases a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday badge will have the option of consolidating them into one 4-Day badge onsite.

Screen Shot 2014-01-10 at 3.11.01 PM.png

Then there's this whole thing about pre-registration:

Only those that have purchased a Comic-Con 2013 4-Day attendee or 1-Day attendee badge, have a valid Member ID, and retain their actual Comic-Con 2013 badge will be eligible to participate in 2014 badge preregistration. Professionals, guests of professionals, exhibitors, exhibitor purchased attendee badges, volunteers, staff, and press will not be allowed to participate in badge preregistration. Open online registration for the general public and all categories listed above will occur at a later date. If you did not attend Comic-Con 2013, you may participate in open online registration later this year.

Personally, I think Comic-Con should have focused their attention on making it an easier and smoother experience for fans to get tickets and hotel rooms, because they still have yet to perfect it. This whole thing doesn't seem like it will help. But I don't know, they say they are just trying to make the experience fair for everyone. What do you think about this new plan that has been implemented?

GIRL_POSTER_V6_flat-550x904.jpg

This is the teaser trailer for an Iranian vampire western called A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, which is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The trailer doesn't offer much, but it definitely has a cool creepy vibe to it.

Strange things are afoot in Bad City. The Iranian ghost town, home to prostitutes, junkies, pimps and other sordid souls, is a bastion of depravity and hopelessness where a lonely vampire stalks its most unsavory inhabitants. But when boy meets girl, an unusual love story begins to blossom... blood red.

The movie was directed by Ana Lily Amirpour, and it's the first film she has made. I'm curious to see how the movie turns out!

There's a problem with the embed, but if you click on the box twice the trailer will pop up on the full screen. Thanks to Indiewire for the trailer and AICN for the poster.

Starz has released another trailer for their great looking new pirate series Black Sails! The story focuses on the adventures of Captain Flint and his men. It takes place twenty years before the events of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. I'm really looking forward to this series, it looks like one that a lot people could get hooked on. Hopefully it turns out as good as it looks!

Flint (Toby Stephens), the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver (Luke Arnold). Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.

The series also stars Zach McGowan (Shameless) as rival Captain Charles Vane; Toby Schmitz as Rackham, Vane’s right hand; Hannah New as Eleanor Guthrie, a determined young woman who runs the smuggling operation on New Providence; Jessica Parker Kennedy as Max, a tortured young prostitute who sees the dark side of New Providence;Clara Paget as the beautiful but cold-blooded Anne Bonny and Tom Hopper (Merlin) as Billy Bones, boatswain of Flint’s ship.

The Michael Bay-produced series has an eight-episode season that premieres in January 25th 2014 on Starz!

LONE SURVIVOR Movie Review

lone-survivor-movie-review.jpg

I'm such a huge fan of military movies. A lot of my favorite films deal with war and battles both historical and modern. Movies ranging from War Horse, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, and more. It's just a genre that I really find interesting, and enjoy watching. On top of that I'm just a huge fan of the military and the Navy SEALs in general. At one point in my life I almost joined the Navy, specifically to try to be a SEAL. Those guys are freaking badasses! I've met and talked with a few of them in my life, and every one of them was just an amazing person. The stuff they have to go through to become Navy SEALs is insane. If there's one movie that perfectly represents what the Navy SEALs are, and what they stand for, and fight for, it's Lone Survivor.

The movie was directed by Peter Berg, and he did a hell of a job bringing this true story to life. Lone Survivor is the first great movie I've seen in 2014. I know we're still early in the year, but this movie was freakin' amazing! I absolutely loved it, and it's definitely one of the best military movies I think that has ever been made. And I'm not exaggerating! The movie had an incredible story, script, direction, and acting. It was also bold, fast-paced, and powerful.

From the opening title sequence showing actual Navy SEAL training, I was hooked. The movie shows you exactly why these individuals go through the extremely fierce training that they endure before they are accepted into the SEAL team. From there the movie just got better and better, and every minute that went by the more consuming it got.

You really get to know and like the characters in the story. So by the time the shit hits the fan you want these guys to survive! You care what happens to them, you're invested in them, and you want them to win. You already know from the title that only one person from the team survives, but even knowing that, you still want the other guys to make it through the fight, you just hope for it, and it's really sad when we lose these characters one at a time. These characters were perfectly cast, and those actors include Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, and Eric Bana. They all gave fantastic performances.

This movie seriously has one of the most intense, non-stop battle sequences I think I've ever seen in a film. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time clenching my fists and watching as the action and story unfolded. I couldn't help but cringe at times either. No joke it seriously hurt me to watch some of the stuff that these guys had to go through.

Even though the movie was hard to watch at times due to the intensity, and it was sad, it was still an incredibly awesome movie. You have to watch this movie as soon as you get a chance, it's a story that needs to be told and it's inspirational. This is one of those films that will not disappoint you.

Just in case you're looking to smell like pure evil, here's an imaginatively cool series of perfume bottle art concepts inspired by the villains of Disney. The designs come from Pixiv artist mmmint8. If these actually existed, they would make a great gift for your significant others. You'd basically be telling them what villain they are most like.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - Story Details and More Casting Rumors

star-wars-episode-vii-story-details-and-more-casting-rumors.jpg

It was recently reported that Breaking Bad co-star Jesse Plemons was the top choice to take on a lead role in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. There a bunch of new casting rumors and possible story details that have been revealed that you all are sure to be interested in hearing! Want to know what they are? Of course you do, so let's start off with the casting rumors...

According to THR Michael FassbenderGirls star Adam Driver, and Hugo Weaving are also all in the running to get in on the Star Wars action! Those names could be added to the list of Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor,Michael B. Jordan, Jack O’Connell, Alex Pettyfer, Saoirse Ronan, and Sullivan Stapleton. There's no word on who most of these actors might be playing, but Weaving is said to be up for the role of an Imperial Commander. As of right now, no casting is official for this film, but it's also expected to include Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher.

According to the report, a lot of things have changed since screenwriter Michael Arndt was replaced by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan. Apparently the real reason Abrams and Kasdan took over the writing duties was because they want to focus more on the original characters from the franchise. The article goes on to explain,

Arndt is said to have focused on the offspring of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), with the original trilogy heroes taking on supporting roles. Abrams, however, wanted Episode VII to focus on the classic trio of characters, so audiences could have one more chance to enjoy them before a fitting send-off. The new characters, the offspring, will now be in supporting roles, according to these sources, and take center stage in Episode VIII and IX. Some characters have disappeared from the Arndt script and new ones are being drafted.

If this is true, I have to say I like the idea. I was really hoping that the original Star Wars characters would have decent sized roles in the next film, so you won't be hearing any complaints from me about it! One of the other rumors that have surfaced includes Obi-Wan Kenobi having a daughter and/or granddaughter!

The latest bit to surface this week is that Abrams and Lucasfilm are now searching for a 20-something female actress who is either of mixed race or black. The rumor is that Obi-Wan Kenobi had a daughter or granddaughter.

That's kind of mind-blowing, especially since I've never really thought of that before. So Abrams is really changing things up, and meeting with a ton of different actors to fill these roles he's creating, which are obviously getting more and more interesting.

So with Abrams and Kasdan now overhauling the script, that means many of the actors who had met and auditioned have been nixed for various reasons. For example, one actor who met with Abrams in the fall before the overhaul was Mud breakout star Tye Sheridan. But sources say that at this stage, there is no need for such young actors and thus Sheridan will not be involved. In another case, one part that was initially conceived as a 20-year old male is now being rewritten to be a 40-year old.

It sounds like lots of awesome things are happening with this movie, and the more I hear, the more excited I'm getting for it! The film will open in 2D and 3D theaters on December 18th, 2015.

It's amazing to see how far Christian Bale has come in his career, but it was bound to happen. He's always been an amazing actor. One of his first major roles was in Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. This is one of Bale's first interviews ever which was conducted around the time he made the film, in 1987. The person interviewing him is Gene Shalit. Thanks to Reddit user punisher2404.

AMC has announced that the Breaking Bad spin-off series Better Call Saul is set to premiere in November of 2014. There still aren't many details on the series, but it will basically focus on the evolution of Bob Odenkirk's Saul Goodman character before he became Walter White's attorney. A lot of people loved the character Saul, and I'm interested to see how he will work in his own series.

The network also announced that the final season of Mad Men will premiere on April 13th at 10 pm. That's one week after the series debut of their Revolutionary War drama Turn, which has a 90-minute premiere starting on April 6th. It going to really interesting to see how they end the series.

Then of course Chris Hardwick's The Talking Dead is being renewed for a fifth season. I'm sure the Talking Dead isn't going anywhere as long as The Walking Dead is on the air.

Actors up for the Role of Kyle Reese in TERMINATOR: GENESIS

actors-up-for-the-role-of-kyle-reese-in-terminator-genesis.jpg

Paramount Pictures and director Alan Taylor are gearing up to start production on Terminator: Genesis. The casting process is underway and so far we have Jason Clarke up for the role of John Connor and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is set to play Sarah Connor. We assume that Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to be in the movie, as well, but we haven't heard much about that recently.

Thanks to Variety we now have a list of actor who are up for the part of Kyle Reese, who was played by Michael Biehn in the original film, and by Anton Yelchin in Terminator Salvation. The list of actors currently set to test for the role include Boyd Holbrook (The Host), Tom Cocquerel, Wilson Bethel (Heart of Dixie), Sam Reid (Hatfields and McCoys), and Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard).

I'm not really impressed with the lineup of actors they got here, but maybe the role isn't really going to be that big in the movie anyway. There's still no official plot details, so it will be interesting to see how it all comes together.

Tarantino's New Western to Be Called THE HATEFUL EIGHT

A couple of months ago Quentin Tarantino revealed that his next film will be another Western, which is awesome! After seeing Django Unchained, I was hoping that he would take on the genre again. He broke the news to Jay Leno when he said,

“I haven’t told anyone this publicly, but I will say the genre: It’s a western. I had so much fun doing Django, and I love westerns so much that after I taught myself how to make one, it’s like ‘OK! Let me make another one now that I know what I’m doing.’”

According to Deadline, the title of the movie he's making is going to be The Hateful Eight, and it will include a role for Christoph Waltz and Bruce Dern (Nebraska). Tarantino has completed the script and is now handing it off to actors he wants to star in it.

I have to say that I would love to see Dern in this film! The guy needs to be in another Western! He had a small part in Django Unchained. Dern is just a great actor with a great Western look, and he'd be awesome in the lead!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt on the SANDMAN Feature Film Adaptation

A few weeks ago it was announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would star in and possibly direct a big screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's comic series Sandman. In a recent interview with IGN the actor talked about the project for the first time, saying that it's still in the "very, very early days." When asked about what interested him about Sandman, he said,

"Well, I love just the basic concept of it - just the concept of personifying Dream, along with all of his brothers and sisters, the seven Endless personifying Death, personifying Destruction and Delirium and Destiny and Desire and Despair. I mean, that's just a fascinating and, I think, a really cinematic concept. You look at the art of Sandman, and it just looks spectacular. I love big, spectacular movies, but oftentimes big, spectacular movies sort of get stuck in a rut. They go down certain paths that end in big explosions or whatever. Sandman has so much opportunity to do something that's on a grand, grand scale, but really unlike your average big, grand-scale, spectacular movie. I guess that's the tip of the iceberg."

He didn't confirm what position or positions he will taking on the film, but it would be great to see him star in and direct it. Gordon-Levitt is a very talented individual, and I bet he'd do an awesome job with the material.

Update on THE WALKING DEAD Spin-Off Series

update-on-the-walking-dead-spin-off-series.jpg

There hasn't been a lot of talk or information regarding the new Walking Dead spin-off series that AMC is developing. In a recent interview with Vulture a couple executives from the network gave an update on the series, saying that it's still early in development.

AMC Programming head Joel Stillerman said,

"That show is not as far along (as Breaking Bad spin-off 'Better Call Saul'). Robert has some things on his plate. He continues to write every issue of the comic and hasn’t finished season four of The Walking Dead, which he is very intimately involved with and will continue to be. That’s really in the incubation stages. The one thing that I’ll share is just an anecdote that Robert shared with us. He has such a specific vision that he laid out really clearly in the first issue of the comic book. And I encourage anybody who’s interested in the show to go read the note that he wrote in the first issue of the comic. His motivation for telling that story was so clear and so powerful, and it served as such a great north star for the show. We kicked around a few ideas, but primarily what he’s working on is, what is the idea that gives [him] as clear a mandate to make another version of this show as [he] had for the first one? What is going on [now] is a more philosophical discussion over why there should be another version of the show. Once we answer that, we’ll zero in on the specific creative."

AMC network chief Charlie Collier added,

"What we want to do is not diminish the mothership. What we want to do is find something that everyone involved feels as passionately about as being a unique vehicle and unique enterprise as compared to the original series. We’ll take our time, and we’ll do it right."

Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, and David Alpert are executive producers on the series, with AMC Studios set to produce. The new show is working toward the premiere date of 2015. I can't wait to see what story they are going to tell.
