DreamWorks Animation's TURBO Gets First Poster

0
0

DreamWorks Animation has released the first poster for Turbo. David Soren directs this film based on a script co-written with Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After, Jack The Giant Killer). Ryan Reynolds, Marvin Duerkholz, and Lil’ Mizerkk lend their voices to this story about "a garden snail with dreams of becoming the fastest snail in the world experiences a freak accident that might just allow him to realize his goal.”

I continue to be impressed with DreamWorks Animation's slate of films. The poster above does not give us much details about movie, but we will keep you posted as news is announced. Turbo arrives in theaters on July 19, 2013.

A snail called Turbo, with Ryan Reynolds voicing sounds good to me? Would you rather be a snail or turtle that was super fast?

Poster for Thriller ATM

0
0

IFC Midnight has released the first official one-sheet for ATMDavid Brooks directed this based on a script written by Chris Sparling (Buried). Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker), Josh Peck (The Wackness), and Alice Eve star in this "contained thriller." The film follows "three co-workers who make a late-night ATM run. While withdrawing some cash a hooded maniac targets the trio."

The trailer looks really silly. There are three of them and one bad guy--come on, they should be able to take him out. I am sure there is more to it in the movie, but I won't know until I see it. ATM will be available on VOD March 2nd, and then arrives in theaters April 6th. Watch the trailer below, if you have not already seen it. Or if you have. What are your thoughts?

If you decided to go to an ATM in the middle of the night that happened to be in the middle of nowhere, would you be afraid of one person outside? I would create a flame thrower out of lighter and a can of hair spray to use to burn my attacker. What creative way would you fight off the psycho?

THE AVENGERS Minimalist Character Posters

Joss Whedon's The Avengers is my second most-anticipated film of the year. Marvel has been marketing this film to the fullest with all of the cool trailers so far. As a result of my excitement for this film, I always keep a look out for cool Avengers art and posters. Matt Ferguson designed these character posters, and you can check them out below thanks to BarefootMarley's Tumblr. I really like the Hulk and the Captain America posters the best, which are your favorites?

I would love to be a part of The Avengers, what about you? I would like to have invisibility so I could stealthy. What would your super power or special ability be and how would you like your poster to look?

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - First Film Clip

0
0

Thanks to this new Mark of the Spider-Man viral marketing campaign, we have our first film clip from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. The clip involves Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) trying to get into the building where Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) lives for dinner, but he has a run in with an uptight door man who won't let him pass. The clip has no action, but it gives you a look at how Peter Parker reacts in this particular situation.

Here's the Synopsis:

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

The movie is set to hit theaters on July 3rd, 2012.  Check out the film clip below, and let us know if you've ever had any issues with trying to get into a building or establishment because you look too much like a geek.

THE EVIL DEAD Reboot - Updates by Jane Levy and Bruce Campbell

0
0

Director Fede Alvarez is gearing up to start shooting the blood filled horror remake of Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead. This time around it's going to be more heavy on the horror and light with the comedy. Suburgatory's Jane Levy was recently cast as the main character in the film, and she gave a little statement to The Insider about how she feels about the movie saying,

I'm so excited, I'm a big fan of the original. To me it's the scariest movie, ever. But this one is really different. They've changed it a lot, but it's still a pretty gory movie. My mom probably can't see it. As for the tone, I think the humor in the first one came from the special effects of the time. I don't know that they meant it to be funny...this one is not funny. It's definitely dark.

Now, this is how Raimi originally envisioned his Evil Dead film, a dark gory horror film. That's the kind of film they set out to make in 1981, but it ended up being a great horror comedy because of the restraints they had. When this new Evil Dead movie was first being discussed Raimi said he wanted to do it so that he could show his original vision for the movie. The news outlet also talked to Bruce Campbell, who's a producer on the movie, and he says,

You can expect to have a damn scary horror movie. There's no Ash character -- The Evil Book is going to torment a new set of kids, so it's a remake, or a re-imagining or ... a re-whatever word you want to use. It's going to be re-scary.

He goes on to talk about the crazy evil trees from the original film. You know, the ones that tore up the character Cheryl. Well, Campbell laughingly says that they will be back, and that "they're not terribly well-behaved this time either."

I know that this is a reboot of a beloved horror franchise, but I'm actually really excited about seeing what they do with it. As long as it's guided by the vision of Raimi and Campbel,l I don't have a problem with it.

The story follows five friends (David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia) who hole up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead. A demonic force is unleashed, possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival. Other information on the film reveals that the lead character takes his younger sister to the family's cabin to help her kick her drug addiction. Without her drugs she becomes insane and difficult to control, which makes it impossible to see that she's actually possessed.

According to a previous report, David is a mechanic and is engaged to Natalie. Mia is the sister heading to the cabin to detox; Olivia is her best friend/nurse. Eric, presumably, is the kid who unleashes the demons.

Have you ever had anything crazy or strange happen to you while camping or sting in a cabin in the woods? I guess what I should be asking is if you've ever been camping, because you never know with us internet technology geeks.

GAME OF THRONES Season 2 - New Character Posters and Featurette

0
0

HBO has released four new character posters for the upcoming second season of Game of Thrones, as well as a new behind the scenes video featurette that focuses on working on the series as an extra. For those of you who are looking to get caught up on Game of Thrones season 2, new you can watch the teaser trailer here, another trailer here, a production video, some images, and a teaser poster.

It's going to be great to see this series come back! I'm looking forward to seeing more epic greatness. This next season is looking incredible. What are you looking forward to most about the return of Game of Thrones?

Here's the synopsis for the second season:

Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lust and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men…all will play the Game of Thrones.

War is Coming April 1st, 2012 at 9pm on HBO.

RED Sequel Gets A New Director!

0
0

For those who saw RED, you were treated to one of the best comedies of 2010. If you liked it as much as I did, then you will be happy to know that the stars of the movie are said to star in the sequel. No contracts are signed, so anything can happen. However, according to THR Willis, Freeman, Mirren, and Malkovich are all on board.

The one change, so far, is that a new director is going to be sitting behind the camera. Fun With Dick And Jane director Dean Parisot is in final negotiations to take over for Robert Schwentke. Filming is planned to start after Willis is done filming Die Hard 5.  The word on the street is that due to the huge success of the first film (over $200 million worldwide), Summit is banking on this being the franchise that takes over for their wildly popular Twilight Saga which ends later this year.

Personally, I hope there are a few films in this franchise. Let us know what you think! What I love about a film like RED is that older actors in action roles are at the center of the story. The question is, how old is too old for actors to star in action franchises?

MAD MEN Season 5 Teaser Trailer - Don Is Back

0
0

AMC has released the first teaser trailer for Mad Men season 5. It's been over a year since we've seen Mad Men grace our TVs. It's good to know that it's finally coming back on March 25th! If you're worried about spoilers... don't, this teaser is really nothing more than a tease that focuses on the coolness of Don Draper, played by Jon Hamm

Check out the teaser below, and let us know what you would like to see happen in the new season!

Synopsis:

Set in 1960s New York, the sexy, stylized and provocative AMC drama Mad Men follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising, an ego-driven world where key players make an art of the sell.

The series revolves around the conflicted world of Don Draper (Hamm), the biggest ad man (and ladies man) in the business, and his colleagues at the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce Advertising Agency. As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels. The series also depicts authentically the roles of men and women in this era while exploring the true human nature beneath the guise of 1960s traditional family values.

Chris Colfer is STRUCK BY LIGHTNING in First Trailer

0
0

The first trailer for Struck by Lightning has arrived online. Glee's Chris Colfer is making his feature film writing and acting debut. Brian Dannelly directs this quirky comedy that also stars Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Hyland, Rebel Wilson, and Allison Janney.

Synopsis:

After being struck and killed by lightning, a young man recounts the way he blackmailed his fellow classmates into contributing to his literary magazine.

Glee is my least favorite show on TV, and this film does not seem to be to geeky. It is cool to see Colfer outside of that universe. Based on the dialogue in the trailer above, I am fairly impressed with his script. The ensemble cast of great character actors makes Struck By Lightning stand out.

What are your thoughts?

MIRROR MIRROR - 2nd New Trailer

0
0

A new trailer has been released for the Tarsem Singh (Immortals) directed Snow White adventure comedy Mirror Mirror. The most positive thing I can say about this movie is that kids will most likely enjoy it. Nothing I've seen from it has impressed or interested me.

Here is the synopsis:

Wicked enchantress (Julia Roberts) schemes and scrambles for control of a spirited orphan's (Lily Collins) throne and the attention of a charming prince (Armie Hammer). When Snow White's beauty wins the heart of the prince that she desperately pursues, the Queen banishes her to the forest, where a ravening man-eating beast hungrily awaits. Rescued by a band of diminutive highway robbers, Snow White grows into an indomitable young woman determined to take back her realm from the treacherous Queen.

The film that stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, and Armie Hammer. Mirror Mirror arrives in theaters on March 30th, 2012. There are so many Snow White live action films being made right now, if you were to make one what would be your idea for a twist be to make it interesting?

Blu-ray Review: THE SON OF NO ONE

0
0

Dito Montiel's The Son of No One arrives on Blu-ray and DVD combo pack February 21 from Anchor Bay. Channing Tatum, Katie Holmes, Al Pacino, Juliette Binoche, Tracy Morgan, and Ray Liotta star in this gritty drama that premiered at Sundance in 2011. I am a fan of cop dramas that show how messed up our society is and enjoyed this film to an extent. The film's ensemble cast and concept are solid, but the story and script fell flat.

The story follows a rookie cop named Jonathan White (Tatum) who gets transferred to a precinct in Queens in the neighborhood he grew up in. White's father was a cop, who worked and died on duty at the same precinct. As a result of his father's death, his childhood was horrible. Jonathan has beaten the odds, and his life is actually as normal as possible. He has a wife (Holmes) and a daughter, but a secret from his dark past is being pushed into the limelight. Will he be able to keep his family and job, or will he lose everything? To find out, you will have to watch the movie.

My biggest complaint is the story. The overall concept is one that had a lot of potential, but it failed to live up to my hopes. Instead, Son of No One falls into the category of dull and overly complicated. The story is hard to follow at times because of the way it jumps back-and-forth between present-day Queens and 1986 Queens. I understand the need to make this film seem gritty and harsh, much like life in the inner city is, but the foul language seemed over-the-top and forced.

New York locations have such an amazingly rich history, which can be seen in this film. New York is almost like another character in the film. I live in New Jersey and travel to Staten Island and Manhattan on occasion. I find it funny how the White's character is slightly ostracized because he lives "on the island." Whenever I watch movies that take place in New York, I try to spot familiar areas, but I could not find any in this movie.

The performances are fairly solid by almost everyone involved. I was surprised at how much I liked Tatum's performance in the lead role of Jonathan White. Holmes continues to lack any screen presence in her roles and did not seem to have any chemistry with Tatum. Al Pacino's habit of yelling to make points is subdued for the majority of this movie. Tracy Morgan shows his range as White's mentally challenged childhood friend. The best performances of the entire cast are from Jake Cherry and Brian Gilbert (young versions of Tatum and Morgan's characters). I loved the intensity and range of emotions that they were able to show.

In conclusion, if you like gritty cop dramas like Brooklyn's Finest or TV's Southland, then you will enjoy The Son of No One. Despite the issues I mentioned above, I am happy I had the chance to see if on Blu-ray. The special features on the disc are few, but the sound and picture quality are exactly what you would expect for a Blu-ray. I recommend you check it out on Blu-ray and DVD when it arrives on February 21. You can read Venkman's review from Sundance here

DARK SHADOWS - Famous Monsters Magazine Cover Art

0
0

Here's your first look at the upcoming issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland featuring Tim Burton's Dark Shadows and Johnny Depp as the vampire Barnabas Collins. I love this retro vintage cool style of the art. It's great to see that it also pays tribute to Jonathan Frid, who played Barnabas in the original Dark Shadow series.

I'm hoping this movie turns out to be something that all of us can enjoy. Depp definitely has a strange look in the film, are you excited to see him portray this character?

Check out the synopsis:

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Blu-ray Review: TOWER HEIST Is Action Comedy Escapism

0
0

Tower Heist arrived on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand Tuesday, and I had the chance to view the Universal release on Blu-ray. The film was directed by Brett Ratner and stars Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Alan Alda, Matthew Broderick, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Judd Hirsch, Téa Leoni, Michael Peña, and Gabourey Sidibe.

Ratner is one of the worst directors in Hollywood, and is frankly one of the biggest douches around. Despite his lack of artistic and personal integrity, Tower Heist is much better than expected. Heist movies are my one of my favorite genres. They range from the comedy of Ocean's Eleven, to the action-packed drama of Heat. Tower Heist falls on the side of comedy.

The story follows a group of hard-working hotel employees who discover that they have lost their pensions (and in some cases life savings) when the building’s wealthy owner, Arthur Shaw, is accused of fraud. Placed under house arrest with $20 million unaccounted for, the workers decide to steal back what’s rightfully theirs and devise a plan to break into his heavily guarded penthouse suite at the top of the hotel.

The film gets off to a slow start, but once it gets going, the comedy will have you laughing hysterically at times. The opening act primarily focuses on building the characters and the motives for the story. This is important because the characters are one of the best parts of this ensemble comedy.

The entire cast was great, but my personal favorites were Stiller, Murphy, and Broderick. Murphy has been in a bit of a slump, but I was reminded how funny he can be. Broderick was funny in an understated and dry way. The accents by Sibide and Stiller were a little forced, but I have heard worse. There are so many funny moments throughout the film.

The last action sequence takes place against the backdrop of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I have always loved the colors, and this is the only time I can think of that the parade was used in a situation like this. There are tons of cool twists and turns, making this sequence a lot of fun.

The Blu-ray comes with a lot of special features. There are two alternate endings that I can completely understand why they were cut. The best part is the long "Plotting Tower Heist" featurette that has cast interviews. I also loved "Brett Ratner's Production Video," even though I did not think I would. Luckily, it was not just Brett walking around narrarating. It was cool to see what went into some of the scenes. The gag reels are as funny as some parts of the film.

If you overlook the cliched story points and plot holes, you will enjoy this film. Think of Tower Heist as a form of escapism.

THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY - International Trailer with Willis and Cavill

A new international trailer has been released for the Bruce Willis and Henry Cavill (Immortals) action thriller The Cold Light of Day. The movie looks like your typical Hollywood action thriller. I don't think there's anything special to see in this movie; it's nothing we haven't already seen before. But if you like these kinds of films, then of course you'll most likely want to see this one.

The story follows a young American, played by Cavill, whose family is kidnapped while vacationing in Spain. In the process of finding his family he uncovers a government conspiracy. He is left with only hours to find the connection between their disappearance and his father's secrets.

Sigourney Weever also stars in the film. Check out the trailer, and tell us what you think! Are you really a secret CIA agent hiding your true identity and job from your friends and family? Because that would be cool.
