During the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead, AMC premiered the first trailer for a fantastic looking 1778 set Revolutionary War series, Turn: America's Fire Spy Ring

Turn is a spy thriller set during the American Revolutionary War. Based on remarkable new research featured in the book “Washington’s Spies,” by Alexander Rose, it tells the untold story of America’s first spies. “Turn” follows Abe Woodhull (Jamie Bell), a farmer living behind enemy lines in British-occupied Long Island, who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely team of secret agents who would help turn the tide of the war in favor of the Rebels. Their daring efforts also revolutionized the art of espionage, giving birth to modern tradecraft as we know it today, along with all of the moral complexity that entails.

The series pilot comes from Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt, and it will be released sometime in spring of 2014. I'll definitely be tuning in for this one, it looks like it's going to be a great series.

A few weeks ago it was announced that Universal Pictures hired Fast and Furious director Justin Lin to take on the fifth installment of the Bourne franchise. The studio has now announced the film will be released on August 14th, 2015. The movie will continue the adventures of Aaron Cross, who was played by Jeremy Renner. Renner is expected to reprise his role.

The studio has also set the Luc Besson-directed film Lucy for release on August 8th, 2014. Scarlett Johansson stars in the action-thriller, which follows "a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic."

J.J. Abrams Regrets STAR TREK Khan Secrecy

I always thought trying to keep the villain Khan a secret in Star Trek Into Darkness was kind of ridiculous. I applaud J.J. Abrams' effort in keeping it hidden, but his audience is smarter than he thinks, and they saw right through it. In a recent interview with MTV, the director admits that he regrets keeping Benedict Cumberbatch's role a secret saying,

"The truth is I think it probably would have been smarter just to say upfront 'This is who it is.' It was only trying to preserve the fun of it, and it might have given more time to acclimate and accept that's what the thing was."

Abrams goes on to reveal that the idea to keep Khan a secret came from the studio. He explains,

"The truth is because it was so important to the studio that we not angle this thing for existing fans. If we said it was Khan, it would feel like you've really got to know what 'Star Trek' is about to see this movie. That would have been limiting. I can understand their argument to try to keep that quiet, but I do wonder if it would have seemed a little bit less like an attempt at deception if we had just come out with it."

Whatever any of them were trying to do, one thing is for sure... the movie got a lot of publicity online because the villain of the film was a hot subject that everyone wanted to talk about.

Abrams is now moving forward with Star Wars: Episode VII, but he will stay on as a producer for the third Star Trek, which might end up being directed by Joe Cornish. When asked about that, Abrams replied with,

"I don't know if Joe Cornish is the guy. My guess is that's up in the air. I adore him and love him and can't wait to see what he does next. Hopefully it will be 'Star Trek.' Whatever it is, he's brilliant. 'Attack the Block' was one of my favorite movies of the year when it came out."

It will be interesting to see how any kind of secrecy on the films is handled from here on out.

Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty looks like a fantastic film that I would enjoy. It's been getting mixed reviews, but I guess it all depends on whether you like these fun imaginative types of films or not. We have an extended trailer for the movie that is six minutes long to show you. As you might guess, it features a lot of great new footage!

Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a daydreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

The movie will be released on December 25th!

Because every Doctor Who fan needs a TARDIS shower curtain! It comes from ThinkGeek and can be yours for only $30.

If you've always wanted to step inside the TARDIS, here's your chance. This 72" square shower curtain will let you get away from the craziness of the real world, if just for a few minutes. (It works best if you actually take a shower. If you just stand in there, people tend to ask questions.) But when you step inside, you'll be able to transcend time and space... at least until the hot water runs out. However, if the control room is overrun with mildew, that's your problem.

And yes, she took that Sonic Screwdriver in the shower with her.

FX has released a viral promo teaser for Guillermo del Toro's vampire TV series, The Strain. The promo features "found footage" accounts of rats scurrying around a sewer grate and in the hallway of a building.

The series is a vampire bioterror thriller that tells the story of an outbreak in the U.S. of a virus that either kills those who are exposed to it or turns them into vampires.

The tale is a high concept thriller that tells the story of “Dr. Ephraim Goodweather” (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City.  He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.  As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Del Toro is directing the pilot episode for the series which will premiere next July. Thanks to Uproxx for the heads up!

The History Channel has been developing some great stuff for TV! I love the network, I watch it all the time, and I'm excited to report that they are developing a new miniseries based on Hannibal Barca called Hannibal

Halle Berry is set to produce the series, which is being written by Jeffrey Caine (The Constant Gardener). The series is "about the great generals in antiquity – Hannibal Barca and his archrival Scipio Africanus – who went head-to-head in the Second Punic War." Berry had this to say in a statement,

“Hannibal was not only the greatest African general to ever live, he may have been the greatest general, period. His story is an intricate and captivating ride and I’m thrilled to get this project off the ground with our partners at History.”

Deadline goes on to give more details on the series, saying, "Hannibal begins in Carthage, 264 BC, at the beginning of his life in North Africa and takes viewers through the Second Punic War between Carthage and Rome. In what became legend, Hannibal and his archrival Scipio Africanus take a sacred vow to destroy the other and the nation he served. However, despite their fiercely opposed allegiances, the two are brought together and grow to respect each other as brothers."

I'm looking forward to seeing how this series turns out, but I imagine it'll be just as good as the other original miniseries the network has made.

3 New Photos from Paul W.S. Anderson's POMPEII

Here are three new photos from director Paul W.S. Anderson's feature film about the city of Pompeii. The photos feature Kit Harington as a slave named Milo, Emily Browning as his love interest, and Kiefer Sutherland as an evil senator.

It’s late summer in 79 A.D. and the city of Pompeii glitters at the foot of the mighty Mt. Vesuvius. MILO, the slave of a shipping tycoon, dreams of the day he will buy his freedom and marry his master’s daughter, COLUMBA. What he doesn’t know is that Columba’s debt-ridden father has promised Columba to a despicable Roman Senator to pay off an overdue loan.

Milo does know that his friend, the Gladiator NIGELLUS, is being forced to compete the next day in a seemingly unwinnable battle in the Coliseum. As Milo tries to find a way to save his friend, he learns that Columba has been promised to another man and that he himself has been sold to a new master. Just as it seems things can’t get any worse, Mt. Vesuvius suddenly explodes with the power of 40 nuclear bombs, sending a torrent of 1,000-degree ash and smoke into the city. Lava flows down the mountainside, killing thousands. As Pompeii crumbles, Nigellus is imprisoned inside the Coliseum, Columba is locked inside her family’s villa, and Milo is trapped aboard a ship bound for Naples.

As the people of Pompeii flee the obliterated city, Milo is determined to return to it to save his friend and his beloved Columba. With fire and ash destroying the only world he’s ever known, an ordinary man is tested to his breaking point in this heart-pounding tale of extraordinary heroism.

The movie is set to be released in theaters on February 21st, 2014. If you haven't seen the trailer for the film yet, you can check it out here. I'm not the biggest fan of Anderson, so I can't say I'm very excited about this one.

Stunning Trailer for Christophe Gans' BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Photo-du-film-LA-BELLE-ET-LA-BETE.jpg

This is the first trailer for the Christophe Gans-directed live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, and it looks like a visually stunning film. Gans is the director hat brought us such movies as Brotherhood Of The Wolf and Silent Hill, and it looks like he did an incredible job with this one. The movie stars Léa Seydoux as Beauty and Vincent Cassel as Beast. The trailer is in French, and there are no subtitles, but I'm sure you'll still enjoy it. Here's what the director had to say about the film in a previous statement,

Beauty And The Beast is the adaptation of a story by Madame de Villeneuve. Published anonymously in 1740 as La Jeune Américaine et les contes marins, it paints a portrait of Belle, a joyful and touching young girl who falls in love with the Beast, a cursed creature in search of love and redemption. In 1760, a condensed children’s version was published. It was from this version that Jean Cocteau and then Walt Disney drew their famous adaptations. Overshadowed, the original version by Madame de Villeneuve has never been adapted for the screen... until now!

Beauty And The Beast is the story of a family going through a crisis, having lost all of its possessions when the father was ruined. The encounter - at first terrifying, but then voluptuous - with this mythical Beast provides our characters with an opportunity to get back on their feet. I like to think that this film is a metaphor for the situation that is currently afflicting the world. That is one of the advantages of fairy tales, to present an ensemble of values that endure through the ages.

Beauty And The Beast speaks, among other things, of the power of dreams and love over materialism and corruption - a theme more topical now than ever. It was time to pay tribute to Madame de Villeneuve’s story: an amazingly contemporary tale, in which the poem of love is also a message of hope.

As of right now there are no US or UK release dates yet, but the movie opens in France on February 12th, 2014.

Ben Affleck Praises Zack Snyder's Take on Batman

A few weeks ago Kevin Smith excitedly talked about the costume that director Zack Snyder will be using for Batman in Batman Vs. Superman. He called it mind-blowing and said that it's unlike anything we've seen before. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ben Affleck was asked to share his thoughts on Smith's comments. He didn't go into any crazy detail, but he did praise Snyder's take on the character, saying,

"Well, I don’t want to get too far afield and I’m sure I’ll have time to talk about Batman down the road. What I’ll say is that I really like Zack. From what I’ve seen of what’s Zack is doing, it’s made me very excited. One of the nice things about being an actor in that movie is they show you all the stuff before anyone else gets to see it. So all the sort of world-creation, and the take on the character and the other characters is really exciting. And at the end of the day, the truth is it’s really directors that make movies work or not — especially these kinds of movies, where it’s about the whole world, and a rising tide lifts all ships. And if it all has integrity, if it all has a sense of realism, then it works. And if it doesn’t, than it doesn’t really matter what everyone’s doing [on the screen] because they just look like a bunch of Mexican wrestlers in suits."

At this point we still don't know much about what this movie will be about, but there have been a lot of cool rumors about what we might see in it! You can read about some of those rumors here and here.

Guy Gets Technical Foul for Swearing at XBOX ONE in NBA 2K14

One of the most hilarious features I've seen in next gen is here! Xbox One users playing NBA 2k14 can and will get a technical foul if the Kinect device hears them swearing in game! For all the people who have been ridiculously mad about this, I applaud the idea. Social Internet gaming can be the most cancerous place for conversation and penalizing people when they step over the line in chat is a step towards having a more civilized gaming community. Yeah, I know I'm in the minority for restricting free speech for gamers, but when your conversation online ultimately comes down to a lot of f-bombs and racial slurs, are you really missing out?

20-Year-Old Millennium Falcon Cut-Away Art from Lucasfilm

Check out this incredible Millennium Falcon cut-away art that's been officially released by its artist, Brian Sauriol. It gives fans a really cool detailed look at the Han Solo's YT-1300 Corellian light freighter. The illustration was commissioned 20 years ago and is officially licensed by Lucasfilm.

Here's a detailed breakdown of the illustration and the story behind it:

After two decades of secrecy, the vault has been opened and Illustrator Brian Sauriol has unveiled an incredible cut-away illustration of the iconic Star Wars starship, the Millennium Falcon. Commission by Nonpareil Communications, Inc. and licensed by Lucasfilm, Ltd., this art shows Han Solo’s YT-1300 Corellian light freighter at a level of detail never seen before. Originally intended as a licensed print, this piece reveals the interiors of the fan-fave starship with vibrant rendering and top-notch craftsmanship rarely seen today.

Sauriol is one of the premiere product and advertising illustrators of the modern era. He is also a professor and program coordinator of Media and Communication Arts at Macomb College, where he has molded the careers of many professional concept artists, including Marc Gabbana who worked with Lucasfilm on Star Wars Episodes II and III, and numerous illustrators that have gone on to create licensed Star Wars art for posters, books and apparel, including Matt Busch, Lin Zy, Alex Buechel, Bill Pulkovski, Darin Radimaker, Brandon Gallo and Ryan Waterhouse.

When the art was created in 1993, Sauriol was hand selected to illustrate 4 starships from the Star Wars Universe including the X-Wing Fighter, Imperial Star Destroyer, and Death Star. The Millennium Falcon was the only ship completed, but the intricate work Sauriol put into the art working hand-in-hand with Lucasfilm’s blueprints is unsurpassed. The original art was created right before the industry transition to digital illustration, producing a work that is hand painted and airbrushed. “This is one of the last traditionally illustrated works I've done,” comments Sauriol, “and certainly the most involved piece of my career. It’s dear to my heart, so finally being able to share it after all these years is profoundly gratifying.”

While not easy to let go of such an iconic piece, Sauriol is also putting the original art on the market, making it one of the most rare and exquisite collectibles a Star Wars fan could own. The art is gouache and acrylic on 24” x 36” Crescent Illustration Board. The illustrator is also including a plethora of extras, including Lucasfilm approved preliminary drawings, contracts, and even blueprints. Illustrator Matt Busch comments, “It truly is amazing. Hidden in secrecy for almost 2 decades, this stunning piece has finally emerged from the shadows and is available to own!  Imagine having this one-of-a-kind painting gracing your collection! Don’t be surprised if you have to fight me for it!"

As to whether this piece will be available as a licensed print as intended, Sauriol is tight-lipped, but does slip that there is at least talk of such a possibility. For now, it’s all about the art itself. Busch adds extra nostalgia, “This is one of the most exquisite paintings I've ever seen. It also has sentimental value for me, as I got to witness Brian working on this project back when I was a budding student of his. It was Brian's mentorship and seeing this piece come to life that gave me the courage and inspiration to follow my own dreams pursuing a career to become a Star Wars artist.”

Henry Cavill Wants Cyborg in the DC Cinematic Universe

In a recent video from Warner Bros. Henry Cavill discusses some hidden easter egg references to a bigger DC cinematic universe in Man of Steel. He talks about the Wayne Enterprises satellite and references to LexCorp as well as S.T.A.R. Labs. He goes on to say that he would love to see the character Cyborg up on the big screen and why. Here's what he said,

"On the extras on the Blu-ray, we're going to get the opportunity to see Zack's references to other aspects of the DC Universe. There's one obvious one which is now particularly obvious because of our next installment, which is involving Batman as well. We see Bruce Wayne Enterprises on the satellite in space. We also see some references to LexCorp. I actually have no further knowledge of this next story, but there's a good chance Lex is going to be introduced soon or at some stage.  What really intrigued me was Dr. Emil Hamilton's connection to S.T.A.R. Labs. Cyborg I think would make a wonderful character and an incredible bridge between both superhumans and humanity in a different way to Batman.  So I don't know where he's going to come in or if he's going to come in, but that's one I'm particularly excited about. Other references I'm not too sure on, but we'll see where those lead. Those with keen eyes will see them."

In 2015 Batman and Superman will finally be on the big screen together, and it will pave the way to see several more characters up on the big screen. It would be so cool if Cyborg ended up being one of them.

Sony Pictures has released a new international trailer for George Clooney's World War II drama, The Monuments Men. This movie looks so good, and it has an incredible cast that also includes Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Cate Blanchett, and Bob Balaban

The movie is based on the novel by Robert Edsel, and it follows art historians who landed at Normandy to save several pieces of art and landmarks from destruction. I can't wait to see this film, and here's the synopsis:

An unlikely World War II platoon is tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.

The movie hits theaters on February 7th!

Sony Pictures has released a high-resolution version of the banner for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro. You can click it to enlarge to see the details. It definitely looks like a much bigger film than the first one. I just wish there weren't so many villains. That scares me. Whenever there are a ton of villains the movie ends up being not as good as it could have been. Maybe Webb will be able to effectively juggle them though. We'll just have to wait and see. I loved the first movie, and I'm way excited for the future installments! The movie comes out on May 2nd, 2014!
