TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Could Be Directed by Jonathan Liebsman

Battle: Los Angeles director Jonathan Liebesman is currently in negotiations to direct a new live-action reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Paramount Pictures and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes Productions.

There's no information on the story details from the script written by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, but I think it's safe to say that this is going to be a dark, gritty, violent, action film, unlike any other TMNT production we've seen before. At least, that's what I'm hoping for!

I grew up on the ninja turtles franchise, which began as a black and white comic book series in 1984. It then escalated into mainstream popularity when it became a hit animated series in 1987. After that, we got the first awesome live-action film in 1990, which spawned two live-action sequels, a live-action TV series, a second animated series, and a great CGI feature film. As a fan, I have no issues with seeing a new updated reimagining of these classic characters. There's so much more they could do with them these days with the technology we have.

Libesman seems to have a handle on creating good action. I liked what he did with Battle L.A. and he's currently directing Wrath of the Titans. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seems like a film production that would be a great fit for him. It would be cool if he ended up taking on the challenge, I'd like to see what he could do with the material and characters. What are your thoughts on the possibility of Liebsman taking on the Ninja Turtles?

The latex suit and shoes are completely impractical; there's no way in hell she could run around and fight crime in this skin tight latex outfit with 3 foot tall heels. But damn, this cosplayer looks good as Batgirl standing against a wall, that's all I think she's able to do... stand against the wall. Way to go!

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN International Trailer

Sony Pictures has just released the international trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man. Marc Webb directed the film that stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field.

The recent trailer bumped Amazing Spider-Man up on my list of anticipated movies. The international trailer has about 10% new footage and features new music. The new footage includes some new bits of Spidey in action, which I can never get tired of.

Watch the new international trailer, and share your thoughts.

Check out the US version to compare:

Here's the synopsis:

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets.

As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

The movie is set to be released on July 3rd, 2012.

Jonny Lee Miller To Play Sherlock Holmes for CBS

CBS has found its Sherlock Holmes. Deadline reports that the network has cast Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone, Hackers, Trainspotting) in its pilot titled Elementary. Michael Cuesta is directing the episode based on Robert Doherty's script. The pilot is "a modern take on the cases of Sherlock Holmes who now lives in New York City."

Doherty is executive producing along with Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly for CBS. Miller most recently starred in Danny Boyle’s stage version of Frankenstein in London. Frankenstein also has Benedict Cumberbatch as the co-lead. Cumberbatch plays Holmes on BBC’s much lauded series Sherlock, a modern update of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic set in London. The actor will next be seen in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows and Neil Jordan’s Byzantium.

I love the BBC's Sherlock, but think that Miller will make a great Holmes in the reboot. What are your thoughts on this news?

Jaden Smith in New Picture from M. Night Shyamalan's AFTER EARTH

Thanks to our friends at JoBlo, we have a new picture from M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth. The picture gives us our first look at Jaden Smith, in what I am guessing is his costume. It is a bit hard to tell because the photo is in black and white. Will Smith and Zoe Kravitz also star in the film, which is currently shooting in Costa Rica.

After Earth centers on "real-life father-and-son Will and Jaden Smith as they crash land on an abandoned Earth a thousand years in the future.  Jaden's character must fight to survive and save both himself and his injured father."

I like what I see of the costume design and look forward to seeing more from the film. Check out some other photos from the set that we posted:

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Movie Update - Brief Story Details

As a fan of the TV series Friday Night Lights, I'm very excited about the movie currently in development featuring the characters from the series. In a recent interview with MTVPeter Berg says the the script for the movie is coming together and then gives a plot detail, revealing that part of the storyline will be based on former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach.

Here's what Berg had to say...

Jason Katims, who was our super talented show-runner, is about done with the script. You never know. So much of these things become scheduling. Kyle [Chandler] is busy, Adrianne [Palicki] is busy, Taylor is busy, Connie Britton is busy, but if we can get everyone in the same room at the same time, we all want to do it. We’re not done with ‘Friday Night Lights.’

He goes on to talk about the story,

[Katims] has come up with a really great storyline that parallels what happened to Mike Leach, one of my heroes, a coach at Texas Tech who was unjustly fired and unjustly accused of mistreating a player with a concussion, which was proven to not have been the case… It would be critical that we get Kyle and Connie [onboard for the film] — we anchored the show around them — and then bring in Riggins, Tyra, Lyla and all other characters as we could get them. But the idea is to really revolve it around the coach.

This sounds like it would make for a great story to tell as a film. It will make for some great drama. What are your thoughts on this story idea revolving around Coach Taylor? Is this a story you would like to see up on the big screen?

Wall-E Junk Robot Being Developed by Swiss Space Center

Space junk, it's a problem. Right now around 16,000 objects of about 10 cms are orbiting Earth at several kilometers per second. You don't have to be familiar with the metric system to hear that and assume it's weaksauce, but you'd be wrong.

Swiss Space Center says a mere paint chip off of a rocket can cause massive structural damage and with two satellites colliding earlier this year and satellite insurance running in the billion $ range... this is a problem.

The answer is CleanSpace One, or as we have been calling him "space Wall-E." Much like the Disney character, CSO is tasked with cleaning up debris, except not on a junk-ridden Earth. You can find out more below, and watch a Wall-E video just for kicks.

Peter Jackson Directing TINTIN 2 After THE HOBBIT

The Adventures of TinTin was amazing, with a nice mix of story and action. Steven Spielberg directed the first animated/performance capture adaptation of Hergé’s comic book series. Peter Jackson served as producer, on what is planned as a trilogy. TotalFilm spoke with Spielberg recently, and we have an update on the sequel.

Here is what Spielberg had to say about the sequel:

Peter [Jackson]’s doing it. I wanted to do it, but Peter has to because we made a deal. I said, ‘I’ll direct the first one, you direct the second one.

And Peter, of course, is going to do it right after he finishes photography on The Hobbit. He’ll go right into the 31, 21 days of performance capture. 'We’re not telling the world what books we’re basing the second movie on yet.'

Earlier reports by Kathleen Kennedy stated that the sequel would be based on The Calculus Affair. Spielberg had a different story:

We haven’t decided that yet. She’s throwing a monkey wrench into your story! It could be that. I like The Calculus Affair. So it could be.

We have completed a story outline now. We have a writer on it. I’m just not declaring what it is. It will be more than one book, but no more than two.

I loved The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn and am looking forward to watching it again when it arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on March 19, 2012. What are your thoughts on this news? Did you like the first film?

Paranormal Activity's Oren Peli has sold distribution rights to his original horror thriller Chernobyl Diaries. Comingsoon reports that Alcon Entertainment has acquired North American and international release rights in Germany, Spain and Japan, which will arrive in theaters this Memorial Day weekend through Warner Bros.

Here is an excerpt from the press release:

Produced by Peli and Brian Witten (Dark City, Final Destination) and directed by Brad Parker, Chernobyl Diaries was fully financed and sold internationally by FilmNation Entertainment. Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove are Executive Producers.

An original story by Peli, Chernobyl Diaries is set in the city of Prypiat that once housed the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. The horror thriller follows a group of friends who, while vacationing in Europe, find themselves stranded in the abandoned city only to discover that they are not alone.

Here is what Kosove and Johnson had to say about the project:

Alcon is thrilled to have acquired this unique, thoughtful and very frightening film. The content is all the more terrifying given that it's based on reality.

Glen Basner, CEO of FilmNation Entertainment added,

We are thrilled to have found such a terrific home for our first fully financed film. Congratulations to Brad, Oren and Brian who have created an incredible movie that will truly terrify audiences.

Chernobyl Diaries will release on the same weekend as Men in Black 3 and, in limited release, Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. Peli has a strong track record of solid scares, so this film should be decent. What are your thoughts on this news?

First Look at THE WALKING DEAD Video Game

Telltale Games has released three screenshots from their upcoming video game based on the popular comic book and hit TV series, The Walking Dead. This is our first look at what we are going to see in the game, and so far I like it. The game has an impressive graphic style, and this could end up being a very fun a visually stunning game.

The developer also announced a nine-part online talk show called "Playing Dead," which will give us some insight into the game including some cool behind-the-scenes sneak peeks. The show will feature guests such as creator/writer Robert Kirkman and The Book of Eli Screenwriter and Gears of War writer Gary Whitta, who is a story consultant for the game.

Collaborating with Telltale on The Walking Dead continues to be a fantastic process. They understand the world and the characters that I created and what it takes to make a game out of them. What’s really exciting is that they’re telling a new story with new characters, so you’ll get to see the same world Rick Grimes did, but now from a different point of view,” said Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead. “Playing Dead is going to be an awesome way for fans to learn about the game and how it was made. It makes sense that Telltale are talking to people in this unique way because The Walking Dead is going to be a unique zombie game.

You can find the first episode of the show here, and check out some more screenshots below!

Electronic Arts has released a 52 second teaser trailer for the upcoming Mass Effect 3 game due out March 6th. This is all part of an even bigger trailer that will be shown during this Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead on AMC.

The demo for the game was released yesterday. But even if you didn't get a chance to play that, this trailer will definitely demonstrate how epic this game will be, complete with the Reaper Invasion Fleet flying over this poor little girl.

Take a look, and let us know what you think.

As you may have heard, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is making an animated comeback thanks to Nickelodeon. Thanks to Toy Ark, we have our first real look at the characters and art from the show.

The series is set to debut on Nickelodeon this year. I'm a huge fan of the TMNT crew. I grew up watching the original cartoon, and reading the comics, and I hope the series turns out to be good.

Here's the synopsis:

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a fictional team of four human/turtle hybrids, who were trained by their human/rat hybrid sensei in the art of ninjutsu and named after four Renaissance artists. From their home in the storm sewers of New York City, they battle petty criminals, evil megalomaniacs, and alien invaders, all while remaining isolated from society at large

The 26 episode series is set to debut in 2012 on Nickelodeon. Check out the images of the Ninja Turtles below, and hit us up with your thoughts!

BATTLESHIP - Behind the Scenes Military Video

Here's a new video from Universal Pictures that takes us behind the scenes of their new Peter Berg-directed sci-fi action film, Battleship. It gives us an inside look at how the actors were prepared for shooting the film and focuses on how the actual military was involved with the movie.

I've really enjoyed what I've seen in the trailers, the movie looks a lot better than what I was expecting when it was first announced. I'm excited about Battleship, and I think it will end up being very entertaining.

Here's the synopsis:

Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancee; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.

The film hits theaters in May of 2012. Watch the behind the scenes video, and tell us what you think!

HANNIBAL TV Series - NBC Officially Orders 13-Episodes

For those of you not familiar, NBC is developing a series called Hannibal from Bryan Fuller, the man who brought us Pushing Daises and Dead Like Me

The story for the show centers on Hannibal Lecter's early days, namely his time going head-to-head with FBI agent Will Graham, the agent who captured Lecter when the psychiatrist was on his murder spree. The back story between the two characters was alluded to in Thomas Harris' novel Red Dragon and the films Manhunter and Red Dragon.

NBC has officially ordered up 13 episodes for the awesome sounding new thriller. Hannibal Lecter is such an interestingly evil character, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this series ends up playing out! Is this a series you might want to see?

Tony Scott to Direct LUCKY STRIKE with Vince Vaughn

According to Deadline, it looks like Tony Scott's next film project might be a drug action thriller called Lucky Strike, which would star Vince Vaughn. It would be really interesting to see Vaughn star in a Tony Scott film; it would definitely be different from anything he's done before.

The story follows a DEA agent who teams up with a drug runner to take down a drug cartel. I assume Vaughn would be playing the DEA agent.

The film is being produced by Scott Free Productions and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox. The studio plans to get the movie into production late this summer or early fall on an $80 million budget.

Joss Whedon's Supernatural Romance IN YOUR EYES Casts 2 Lead Actors

$

0

Joss Whedon has cast the two lead roles in his scripted supernatural romance film called In Your Eyes. Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield) and Zoe Kazan (Happythankyoumoreplease) will take on the two main characters in the movie. Whedon will not be directing the film but will serve as executive producer on the project that will be directed by Brin Hill

According to Deadline, the film is described as a metaphysical love story about two seemingly polar opposites who are deeply connected in ways neither could have ever imagined. "Stahl-David stars as Dylan, a boyish-looking man who served time in jail for robbery when he refused to rat on his accomplices. Now, he is living in a trailer in New Mexico. Kazan stars as Rebecca, an attractive but skinny and slightly awkward woman, who is married to an older doctor and living in Connecticut. The two have a powerful connection, and they can hear and see each other, even though they have never met."

Whedon had this to say in a previous statement about the film:

When I wrote In Your Eyes, I didn’t have the wherewithal (or the moxie) to make it without an established production house. I believe, as I did then, that it’s a pretty timeless romance, and now, with the creation of Bellwether Pictures (and Brin Hill’s elegant, passionate take on the piece), I have the opportunity to prove it. (I also have a 37% increase in moxie.) I love this team and I can’t wait to see them bring In Your Eyes to life.

As a fan of Whedon's work, I'm looking forward to seeing what exactly he has planned for this.
