Here's an exceptionally well made sci-fi short film called Grays. The story follows a young vet looking for information about how his father died. It leads him into some pretty intense situations. The movie was directed by Henry Hobson, and I would love to see the story continue, because things started to get really good and interesting at the end.

STAR WARS Art - Trilogy of Unseen Scenes

Artist Robert Shane has created an awesome set of Star Wars art featuring a trilogy of unseen scenes from the film. According to the artist,

"Most of my artwork I post here is done in 'portrait' style because I'd really like to draw a Star Wars comic cover one day! But I thought I should try to demonstrate that I can also create 'landscape' scenes too - so I've put together a series of three pictures depicting scenes that 'sort of' happened in the original Star Wars trilogy."

He gives a little commentary on each of the pieces and about the above image he says,

"We all know that Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru were executed in Episode 4 (A New Hope) - and the grizzly revolution was pivotal in convincing Luke to begin his heroic journey. We didn't see actual the event - and we didn't need to (especially in a 'kids' movie) - but I thought it would be cool to imagine how it might have played out... especially if it had introduced us to Boba Fett's character!"

star_wars_unseen_scenes___episode_5_by_robert_shane-d6umsdn.jpg

"There was a scene filmed for Empire Strikes Back that featured a Wampa that R2-D2 and C-3PO locked in a room at Echo Base being discovered by Snowtroopers... that scene wasn't completed because of the limitations of the animatics for the Wampa. So what I've done here is imagined how - if they'd been able to produce a better looking Wampa - they could have used it to (temporarily) terrorize the advancing Imperials!"

star_wars_unseen_scenes___episode_6_by_robert_shane-d6umtdf.jpg

"There was a scene filmed, but not completed, for Return of the Jedi (apparently as a joke) - showing the Imperial Guard using their force pikes to execute Moff Jerjerrod for slacking with his job of building the second Death Star.  I thought that scene, if it had been used, could have actually been important in demonstrating Darth Vader's wavering devotion to his Emperor. The way I imagine it - the Emperor orders his guards to execute the hapless Moff - but Vader actually protests - and tries to remind the Emperor that this was a loyal soldier who delivered a functional Death Star. I think this would be consistent with Vader's old appreciation, as Anakin, for his troops - and would start to sow the seeds for his eventual redemption at the end of the movie!"

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE - Movie Review

the-hunger-games-catching-fire-movie-review.jpg

I actually think The Hunger Games is a pretty awesome film franchise. Yeah, the movies aren't perfect, but they mange to entertain me. I really enjoyed the first film, and I'm happy to tell you that the sequel was even better. Director Francis Lawrence did a great job bringing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to life, and I'm glad that he's also directing the next to two films as well. He has a great handle on the story and characters, and I liked what he did with this movie. It was a much tighter film, and more gripping this time around. There's also more at stake in this part of the story, which brings a good amount of intensity.

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson reprise their roles as Katniss and Peeta. They are the first-ever co-winners of The Hunger Games in which two adolescent citizens from each of the 12 futuristic dystopian districts are chosen to fight to the death.

In the sequel Katniss and Peeta head out on a victory tour, where they are forced  to give scripted speeches and condolences to the families of fallen tributes. But something is brewing in the districts. People have been inspired by Katniss and Peeta to rise up against the Capital. They regarded the couple’s willingness to take their own lives at the end of the last Hunger Games as an act of rebellion, and now they want to rebel, even at the expense of their own lives.

Katniss is a beacon of hope to these people. To get rid of that hope President Snow plots to kill Katniss. He announces that the 75th Hunger Games would include a reaping of only the surviving tributes from the previous games. It is during these games that he would orchestrate her death. This is a blow that no one was expecting, and it is very crushing to the tributes and induces anger, especially for Katniss, who ends up going through hell all over again.

There is a lot of tension in this story, and it's full of moments that will surprise you and bring audiences on the edge of your seat. Especially if you haven't already read the books. There are some pretty terrifying moments here that I would hate to be a part of. Like the first film though, the movie is PG-13, and there is hardly any blood but it's still good, and still gut-wrenching at times. I do think it's funny though that they show more blood on certain TV shows then they do in this movie.

I liked a lot of the new characters introduced in the movie as well, but my new favorite character was Johanna Mason played by Jena Malone. She was pretty badass. All of the supporting cast was great though! Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, and Woody Harrelson all gave fantastic performances.

This was an entertaining film, fans of the franchise and the book should enjoy it. I know the Hunger Games isn't for everyone, but I take it as it is, and I really liked it. I can't wait to see the next two films! I'm not the only wine that liked it though! The movie is getting solid reviews, and audiences seem to be loving it. As I listened to people talk about the film in the theater, I heard nothing but praise about how awesome it was. The movie is definitely worth checking out!

Paramount Pictures released an international trailer for Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. This is the spin-off from their successful horror franchise that seems to just be getting worse and worse. The trailer includes some more new footage from the film, but I'm still not impressed. I enjoyed the first few films, but enough is enough, and I think I'm done with the franchise.

The story begins in June 2012, at a party in Oxnard, California. After a woman dies in the apartment beneath the party, some party goers take a camera to investigate. They discover items associated with black magic rituals, even the missing tapes from Paranormal Activity 3. When Jesse, the film's lead protagonist, discovers a mark on his arm, strange forces pursue him while Jesse's loved ones attempt to save him.

The movie comes out on January 3rd, 2014.

The BBC has released a new teaser trailer for Sherlock Season 3! The spot aired yesterday during Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special. The series stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, and like the first two seasons, I have no doubt that the third season is going to be incredible!

The question on everyone’s lips will finally be answered when Sherlock returns with three brand-new action-packed adventures. How did he do it? And how will John take the news that his best friend faked his own death? What will Sherlock think when he finds out John has fallen in love with Mary Morstan? She’s sensible, quick-witted and not at all taken in by Sherlock’s posturing.

Chris Pratt on Star-Lord in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

During a recent interview with Fandango, actor Chris Pratt talks more about his role as Star-Lord in director James Gunn's upcoming film The Guardians of the Galaxy. This is going to be a very different Marvel film than what the movie fans are used to. It is a very different part of the universe, but it's going to be awesome!

Pratt talks about landing the role, how much he knew before he got it, and why he took they part.

“Just the fact that he was part of the Marvel brand was really exciting. I was signed up to do the movie before I was even allowed to read a script, so it wasn't like something about this particular character that got me to do it. The fact that it was a Marvel movie is what got me to do it. Granted, once I did read it there were so many things about the character that I love, and one thing is that he's very much a kid at heart."

Here he discusses the describes what his character Star-Lord is like saying,

"He's like a man-child. And I like the idea that he's got a false sense of bravado. Deep down inside he's lonely and desperate. But on the outside he walks around like he's big and tough, and I don't think he does a great job of convincing everybody that he's not just a scared little child.”

I think Pratt is the perfect actor to take on this role, especially after I saw footage of him at Comic-Con. He just nails the character, and I can't wait to see more!

Based on the Marvel comic book that first appeared in 1969, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is produced by Kevin Feige, directed by James Gunn from a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn and screenplay by James Gunn, and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close

The film is set for an August 1st, 2014 release.
