TRANSFORMERS 4 Coming in 2014

$

0

Paramount Pictures is ready to move forward on a fourth Transformers film and are already looking at unleashing the robot fury in 2014. Does this mean a deal has been finalized between the studio and Michael Bay? There's been no confirmation, but we know he's been in discussions with the studio. There's also no word on who would come back to star in the movie. After the third, both Bay and Shia Labeouf said they were walking away from it. We know that Bay is at least considering jumping back on board, but none of the other original actors have been named.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing another director take on the franchise with a full new cast. Bay did a solid job with Dark of the Moon, but I think it would be nice to see the film and these robot characters through the eyes of a fresh new director who would be passionate about making it, because it seems Bay isn't really all that passionate about this franchise anymore. At this point he's only doing it for the paycheck.

Would you like to see Bay come back to direct, or would you rather see a new director take on the franchise?

Players must defeat them in the "battle for the cosmic cube," which ould be part of the plot for the film. There is no confirmation at this point, but the images below come from Idle Hands and MTV Geek.

Game Of Thrones Actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Cast in OBLIVION

$
0
0

Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is set to co-star alongside Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, and Olga Kurylenko in the upcoming Joseph Kosinski-directed film Oblivion.

The movie is based on an original idea that Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) made into a graphic novel. In the film Cruise will play a soldier who’s stuck alone on a planet, repairing the drones that patrol and destroy a savage alien life form. He encounters a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together forces him to question his world view. According to Deadline, "Coster-Waldau will play Sykes, a battle-hardened, physically imposing, intelligent and extremely athletic military technology and weapons expert."

I loved what Kosinski did with the world of Tron, and I'm excited to see what he ends up doing with this film concept. It definitely has a very epic setting, and it sounds pretty ambitious. I can't wait to see how this think turns out. That's if Universal doesn't cancel it before it goes into production. As you know, they've been doing that a lot lately.

Here's a description of the story from Kosinski:

It’s a sci-fi adventure that spans two different worlds and two different times. It’s epic in terms of its scale and scope, but it’s a character driven story with a small cast.” … “I first came up with the concept when I moved from New York to Los Angeles. I was inspired by old sci-fi models like The Twilight Zone” to find an emotional, dramatic story that would raise interesting questions and play with perspective. I wanted to build the story around those few characters, but at the same time ask the bigger universal questions that are integral to science fiction, questions about our existence, our purpose in the big scheme of things. …  The main character, Jak, is an ex-soldier who works as a drone repairman on this barren planet. He fixes the drones that patrol the surface looking to destroy what’s left of the Scavengers, a savage alien race. Jak has a partner, Vika, who’s a by the book kind of career officer and she works as his “eye-in-the-sky,” scanning for damaged drones and monitoring Scavenger activity. One day, Jak comes across a spacecraft that’s crashed, and inside he finds this mysterious woman in “deltasleep.” He rescues her from the Scavengers and takes her back to their Skytower, which is high above the clouds. When the woman wakes up, her story turns their lives upside down and sends each of them on an adventure of self-discovery.

Here's the story description from the Graphic Novel:

From Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski and critically acclaimed creator Arvid Nelson (Rex Mundi) comes an original sci-fi adventure of epic proportions. In a future where the Earth’s surface has been irradiated beyond recognition, the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jak discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows.

The movie is being produced by Universal Pictures and production is set to start this March in Louisiana.

BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW Sci-Fi Trailer

One of the weirdest trailers I have seen in awhile arrived online today thanks to Blastr (via /Film). That is the trippy trailer for Beyond the Black Rainbow from writer-director Panos Cosmatos. The film reminds me of THX-1138 to an extent, and looks pretty cool. I like the visual style and tone set by the music in this trailer.

Synopsis:

Beyond the Black Rainbow, written and directed by Panos Cosmatos, is a Reagan-era fever dream inspired by hazy childhood memories of midnight movies and Saturday morning cartoons. Cosmatos brings a bold, Kubrickian vision to the screen in stunning detail in this sci-fi fable of a young woman imprisoned in an experimental laboratory and the enigmatic scientist who is her captor. Set in a futuristic 1983, Elena finds herself held against her will in a mysterious facility under the watchful eye of the sinister Dr. Barry Nyle. Pushed to her limits, Elena is left with no choice but to navigate an escape from her labyrinthine prison, in the process revealing its hidden secrets.

Black Rainbow arrives on VOD streaming before its limited theatrical release this spring. Watch the trailer below, and let us know your thoughts.

Will Ferrell Shall Be Known as FLAMINGO THIEF!

Earlier this week Variety announced that Red Hour Films has attached Will Ferrell to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Susan Trott’s book Flamingo Thief. The script is being written by You, Me and Dupree scribe Michael LeSieur.

Here is the synopsis of the book from Amazon:

Everyone handles grief differently but none so differently as Tim Forester, multimillionaire Juice King, who lost his son a year ago. It starts with him quietly pocketing a china flamingo belonging to his three year old niece, Joy, and by his tenth flamingo has escalated to felony grand theft. He is shot by one person and shot at by another. He is losing his business and his wife but he is feeling better. Flamingo thieving makes his heart beat. He comes alive. In a way he is having a wonderful time. But how will it end? Quite possibly in prison. Flamingo Thief is a funny, bittersweet story of love, loss, family, fruit and flamingoes. The reader will never forget Tim Forester, his disastrous way of dealing with grief, and a heart that is bursting with love.

Ferrell will be taking on the role of Tim Forester. There is no one attached to direct or co-star in the movie. However, I think that they are on the right track with the casting of Ferrell. It seems like a role tailor-made for his acting style. At this point, I am on board. Let us know what you think.

Guillermo del Toro Officially Directing Emma Watson in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Last year, word went out that Guillermo del Toro wanted to direct a live-action version of Beauty and the Beast with Harry Potter star Emma Watson. Today, it's been confirmed and set in stone that Del Toro will in fact direct the movie with Watson set to star in the lead role.

There's not much known about the film other than it will be a reimagining f the clasic fairy tale. Here's what the director had to say in a previous interview,

It's one of those landmarks, one of those holy grails, and I really hope to do it. We're just starting the process.

It's a movie that you have to make in the next few years for Emma to be perfect for the part. I think she is the perfect character to do that movie.

This is a great team-up of talent. Del Toro is going to bring complete visual storytelling awesomeness to the big screen, and Watson is going to be amazing as The Beauty.

Geek Art: PROMETHEUS Sci-Fi Fan Art

Here's an awesome retro-style fan-made piece of Geek Art for Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi epic Prometheus. It was created by Logan Faerber, and it turned out being pretty freakin' cool.

Here's a note from the artist:

Inspired by the recent announcement trailer of “Prometheus”, the revival of the once great Alien franchise. This piece is my interpretation of the alien world on which the exploring team lands. I decided to depict a quiet scene prior to the discovery or action that will ultimately take place. My favorite part of the first film and the new trailer is the feeling of unknown; this opens a whole slew of questions without any answers. I find this to be the most exciting part of movies - anticipation.

What do you think of it?

First Look at AFTERSHOCK from Eli Roth and Nicolás López

Here is our first look at some photos from the upcoming earthquake movie, Aftershock, thanks to /Film. Eli Roth (Hostel, Inglourious Basterds) presents and co-stars in the disaster flick directed by Chilean filmmaker Nicolás López.

Aftershock is "an English-language action-thriller inspired by the Chilean earthquake that follows a group of six friends (including Roth, several international movie stars and a cameo by pop superstar Selena Gomez) struggling to survive after a massive earthquake hits their city and society crumbles around them. Most of the film will include realistic, practical effects." The film is still shooting in Chile.

The film has been picked up for distribution in 17 countries, according to Screendaily. North American distribution has not been completed but is likely to be done when the film is completed later this year. López revealed that he is expecting the kind of release Roth’s last producing effort, The Last Exorcism, got. He also states that the pair hope to keep making internationally viable movies like this, in Chile.

The script was co-written by López, Roth, and Guillermo Amoedo. The cast also includes Ariel Levy, Nicolás Martínez, Lorenza Izzo, Andrea Osvart, and Natasha Yarovenko, most of whom are major stars in various parts of the world. This looks and sounds like a cool movie to me. Check out the images below, and see for yourself!

Michael Bay Directing TRANSFORMERS Reboot

Michael Bay is set to return as director of Transformers 4! Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed the 2014 release date and reveals that Bay will return to direct a "reboot" of sorts of the franchise.

Here is what Bonaventura had to say:

Michael's going to direct it and it will be in the summer of 2014. He's a cool customer, he's excited and I think the challenge there is that we are really are going to do a reboot and what that's going to be we don't even know yet.

He also responded to the rumors about Jason Statham's involvement:

No, it's so silly. We've got to get a story first.

He went on to say,

It's a hybrid. I'm not involved with Spider-Man, but what I perceive Spider-Man to be is a redoing of the whole thing. It's [Transformers] not. It's an evolution, there's still continuity that's going on and yet there will be a lot of new cast and whether there will be anyone from the old cast we don't even know yet. It's going to be a whole new story. The characters who will come along will be Optimus and Bumblebee I'm sure.

GHOST RIDER 3 Possible?

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance hasn't even come out yet, but the directing duo has already been talking to Sony about making a third Ghost Rider film.

In a recent interview with The Playlist they confirmed that both they, along with Nicolas Cage, are "intrigued" by the possible opportunity to bring Ghost Rider back to life for a third time.

There's been talk about [a sequel]. I know Nic[olas Cage] wants to do it, he's very pumped about it. We'll just to see how well [this] does.

Because as with any sequel, the studio won't make one unless the movie before actually brings in money. I honestly don't think that will be a problem for this new movie. There's a lot of hype built up around it and it seems like people are pretty excited for it.

Surprisingly, I'm actually looking forward to seeing this movie. It just looks like a silly yet badass ride into Ghost Rider's hell. What do you think about the movie? Are you looking forward to seeing it?

Renny Harlin's New Horror Movie Gets a Poster

$
0
0

This is one of those situations where I just don’t know what to do. I will explain this in a minute. What we have here is the first poster released for Renny Harlin’s upcoming, as yet untitled movie. Quiet Earth reports that this film is going to be based on an incident that happened back in 1959. It is called the “Dyatlov Pass Incident.”  I had never heard of this before, so I did some research.

Here is what I found on Wikipedia:

The Dyatlov Pass incident refers to an event that resulted in the deaths of nine ski hikers in the northern Ural mountains on the night of February 2, 1959. Investigators at the time determined that the hikers tore open their tent from within, departing barefoot into heavy snow and a temperature of −30°C. Though the corpses showed no signs of struggle, two victims had fractured skulls, two had broken ribs, and one was missing her tongue. Their clothing, when tested, was found to be highly radioactive.

This sounds pretty damn scary to me. However, this is where I run into the dilemma that I spoke of earlier. The concept of the film is definitely one that I would love to sink my teeth into. But given the choice of director, I am not sure what to do. For all of you with shocked looks on your faces right now, I will agree Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger were great movies. Harlin's resume takes a sharp turn for the worse after that. Cutthroat IslandDriven, and The Covenant are not movies to brag about. So, there is the problem I am facing. Will he ruin a great premise, or will he use this as a spring board to get back into our good graces? I guess we can only wait and see. Let us know what you think.

This was a hell of a great film. Fincher did an amazing job adapting it for the big screen. But, I didn't think it was his best work. But that goes for every book that I've read and every remake I've seen.

One of the things I look forward to most with Fincher's films is the behind the scenes featurettes and documentaries. I love watching how he goes about creating his movies. The studio plans on releasing the Blu-ray and DVD on March 20th you can check out the details and specs below!

Here is the trailer for the remake of Nicols Winding Refn's Pusher, thanks to /Film. Originally released in 1996, the film spawned two sequels and helped propel Refn into the limelight. The remake is directed by Luis Prieto and stars Richard Coyle as "a guy who finds himself on the wrong end of a bad drug deal and has to make some questionable decisions to survive." Coyle actually starred in the original film, which gives greater authenticity to this remake.

The cast also includes Agyness Deyn, Bronson Webb, and Paul Kaye. Watch the trailer via Yahoo below:

Peter Berg Has 40 Different Ideas for HANCOCK 2

$
0
0

The last thing we heard about Peter Berg's Hancock 2 was that everyone involved with the first film is willing to come back and make the film and that Will Smith came up with the initial story idea. Now Berg is saying they have come up with about 40 different story ideas!

It sounds like everyone is excited about doing it, so at this point it all comes down to getting everyone's schedule to line up. Here's what the director had to say in a recent interview with MTV:

I've talked to Will Smith about it several times. We're just all busy, you know? It sounds lame, but we're busy and it's hard to get everybody in the same room. Will's got his career and he's obviously very close with his children and their careers are taking off and if we can all figure out a way to get in the same room to hash out a script ... then we'll make the movie.

We've come up with like 40 different storylines. We all change our minds all the time so we're like hyperactive little kids. Like, 'Oh man, it would be cool if the Internet started a competition on how to kill Hancock?' That was one idea we had.

This movie obviously isn't going to happen anytime soon. Personally, I don't think a sequel needs to happen anyway. It has in the pipeline since 2009, and I think too much time has passed. I thought the first film was pretty forgettable. What do you think? Would you like to see a Hancock sequel?
