Sesame Street Parodies THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

Sesame Street recently did a fun parody of the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The spoof is called The Hungry Games: Catching Fur, and it follows Cookie Monster (as Cookieness Evereat) and Pita, which is a piece of pita bread, as they take on food-related challenges to fight off poking monkeys and overwhelming fog.

Cookieness Evereat is back to play in the Hungry Games. Can Cookieness and her friends, Finnicky, Tick Tock Lady, and Pita escape from the poking monkeys and tickling winds? Find out in The Hungry Games: Catching Fur. May the cookies be ever in your flavor.

It's been fun watching Sesame Street spoof movies recently. This is a fun one, and I imagine they'll keep doing it.

What I Loved and Hated About The Premiere of ALMOST HUMAN

what-i-loved-and-hated-about-the-premiere-of-almost-human.jpg

A lot of you watched the premiere of Almost Human last night. Who wouldn't want to see J.J. Abrams launch another TV series given his track record of LOST and the cult hit Fringe? I eagerly watched and, for the most part, enjoyed the show. I will definitely be tuning in tonight for the second part of the premiere. The following is a list of what I loved and hated in the opening hour of Almost Human.

What I Loved...

  • Karl Urban and Michael Ealy - You gotta love Karl Urban for being Karl F****** Urban. The opening sequence had my buddy and I screaming "I AM THE LAW" with every take down, headshot, and explosion. No, he's not the emotionless Dredd we've seen before, but the action hero is still there. The brooding, anger, and never say die attitude though was what I expected, and I was not disappointed.  Urban's character only seemed to shine brighter when next to Michael Ealy. Ealy's character Dorian in my opinion was the perfect companion to the brooding of detective John Kennex (Urban). The scene that most exemplified this in my mind was the interrogation scene. Kennex is beating the hell out of the suspect and as opposed to immediately stepping in and showing his disapproval, he shades the glass and lets it continue until he has an opportunity to try things his way. I also loved the dialogue between these two and thought it was the best part of the show.
  • The Phenomenal Soundtrack- Selecting The Crystal Method for this series brings the perfect sound to this crime-filled future. There were sequences in the show where I had to stop and audibly say, "damn this is a good track." It may because I tend to pay attention to those things, but there's something to be said about having a well known electronica duo score your show.
  • References to Blade Runner- I can't be the only one who noticed the scenery in the "black market medical district". The use of blue, the rain, everyone having umbrellas? I almost expected Rick Deckard to come rounding the corner in a self monologue. I'm completely cool with the similarities though. Almost Human is a cop drama set in the future that plays heavily into Androids. The comparisons are already going to be there so why not play into them?

What I Hated...

  • The Jerk's Name- The antagonist is named Richard...making him a "Dick." I cringed the moment I heard his name. Of course I expected there to be someone in the precinct who wasn't cheering on the astonishing improbable comeback of our lead character, but did the writing team have to spell it out for us? I don't think the name was a coincidence given that his first few lines were ridiculously cruel and then we heard his name. Alan is a great name for a jerk guy. So is Sebastian. Anything but Richard.
  • Depeche Mode in 2048?- A song that peaked at 13 on the US Hot 100, ranked 368 in Rolling Stone's 500 greatest songs of all time and came out 2 months before I was born is still listened too? It's not entirely impossible that we listen to nearly 60 year old songs, so lets take it in context of today. If you were to take the top 13 song of 1953 and played it in a lab it would be....

Okay that would sound awesome, but that's Nat King Cole. Depeche Mode is no Nat King Cole. Not now, not ever.

  • The Time Slot- It was a geeky fun fest for Sunday night television being able to watch Almost Human with The Walking Dead right after. The problem? The Simpsons has held that time slot for many years and Fox is not going to change that for a new sci-fi show. Almost Human will regularly air on Mondays. I'm not saying it wouldn't do better in any other slot, but putting it right before The Walking Dead would set us up with two hours of great television, and ensure solid ratings for this thus far solid show.
  • The Sex Robot Episode- We are at episode 1.5 and there is already talk of sex robots? I realize this is a cop drama, but damn. Just damn.

That's all I got. Obviously the hates are much more nitpicky, and the loves far outweigh them, but that's because I loved the show. I can't wait to see how this series develops. Hopefully I'll be sticking with it for a long time.

Red-Band Trailer for the Parody Film BEST NIGHT EVER

red-band-trailer-for-the-parody-film-best-night-ever.jpg

Here's a red-band trailer for the latest parody movie Best Night Ever. It comes from Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer who also brought us the parody films Date Movie and The Starving Games. I haven't seen either of those films, as I'm not a big fan of these crappy films.

Best Night Ever parodies films such as Bridesmaids, The Hangover, and Spring Breakers. It seems like yet another ridiculously pointless parody that I won't see. Here's the synopsis,

Claire is about to get married and she goes to Las Vegas with her sister and two friends for her bachelorette party. Things quickly spiral out of control in this unforgettable, shocking, and uproariously funny new film from the producer of the Paranormal Activity franchise and the co-creators of Scary Movie.

The movie comes out on VOD December 26th and hits theaters January 31st.

This is the domestic trailer for Hayao Miyazaki's final animated feature film, The Wind Rises. Miyazaki is one of the greatest animators of our time, and as you've seen, it looks like it's going to be a beautifully animated movie.

The movie was inspired by Miyazaki's own manga, Kaze Tachinu, and a novel by Tatsuo Hori. The story focuses on Jirō Horikoshi, the designer of Japan's famed Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane of World War II.

Disney will give the movie a limited release in the U.S. on February 21st and will expand wide a week later. I'm a huge fan of Miyazaki's work, and I can't wait to see this one!

Christopher Nolan is one of the main directors who has helped to usher in the era of IMAX. The director is perfecting the craft of shooting films in IMAX. The format just makes the films he makes so much more epic. Nolan is always trying to push the boundaries of the IMAX camera, and now it's been revealed that Nolan had one of the cameras installed on a Learjet for his next film, Interstellar

We have a couple of images of the camera and jet that come from @PaulJFranklin, who's worked with Nolan since Batman Begins.

This sci-fi film stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, and more. Here's the synopsis:

The new script chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

The movie is scheduled to be released on November 7th, 2014. It'll be awesome to see what kind of footage he got from this contraption.

In this week's episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. we will see the first major crossover with Marvel's cinematic universe. The agents will be cleaning up messes left in the aftermath of the events of Thor: The Dark World. It's called "The Well," and Marvel has released the first 4-minutes of the episode. Here's how the episode is described,

"In the aftermath of the events chronicled in the feature film Marvel's Thor: The Dark World, Coulson and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pick up the pieces--one of which threatens to destroy a member of the team."

Clip From Great New Mickey Mouse Animated Short GET A HORSE

Disney has released a little clip from their upcoming Mickey Mouse animated short film Get a Horse, which is set to premiere with Frozen on November 27th. The short is a 1920's style short with an awesome 3D modern twist that I know Disney fans are going to love! The studio screened the short at D23 earlier this year, and it was amazing! I absolutely loved it.

One of the cool little tidbits about it, is that the voice of Mickey Mouse was actually done by Walt Disney. The creative team carefully went through the audio archives from several shorts and used audio clips from them so that Disney could be the voice in this short. You can read more about the making of the short here. Thanks to Stitch Kingdom for the video! I hope you enjoy the clip.

Batkid Vs. Bane by Graham Nolan

Last week we all witnessed the exploits of Miles, the boy with leukemia who became Batman for a day in San Francisco. One thing you didn't see is a picture given to Miles by a comic artist Graham Nolan.  Nolan drew Batman during the "Knightfall" era, so it's only appropriate we see Bane in the above strip. I think the best part about the picture is the way Bane shrinks in fear of Batkid!

Terry Gilliam's Next Project Will Be THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE

It looks like director Terry Gilliam is actually going to get around to making his cursed film project The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. While promoting his next film, Zero Theorem, Comingsoon caught up with the director, and he revealed that Don Quixote could be his next film! Here's the quote,

"I'm going to try to do Don Quixote again. I think this is the seventh time. Lucky seven, maybe. We'll see if it happens. This is kind of my default position, going back to that. I actually just want to make it and get rid of it. Get it out of my life."

For those of you not familiar with this project, Gilliam began production on it in 2000 with Jean Rochefort as Quixote and Johnny Depp in the role of Sancho Panza. The shoot ended up being riddled with problems, and it was a disaster. The movie was never completed. There is a great behind-the-scenes documentary on the cursed production called Lost in La Mancha, which was released in 2002. It's a must watch if you haven't seen it yet.

There's no information on who will be involved with the film, but some of the previous attempts at bringing the film to life included Robert Duvall as Don Quixote and Ewan McGregor as the Sancho Panza. Hopefully Gilliam actually gets to make it this time!

While we wait for the new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 coming in December, Sony Pictures has released a new photo of Jaimie Foxx as Max Dillon. He's about to touch something that he shouldn't touch, which will set into motion events that will transform him into Electro.

The Marc Webb-directed sequel stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field, Chris Cooper, B.J. Novak, and Sarah Gadon. It's set to be released in theaters on May 2nd, 2014.

The CW Orders Pilot for THE FLASH - First Look at Barry Allen

arrow_the_scientist_the_flash_20131118_1563241315.jpg

We already knew that The CW was planning to bring The Flash to the small screen. The original plan was to introduce the character in three episodes of Arrow before giving him his own series. Well now according to Deadline the network has changed that idea up a bit, and they are pushing a pilot episode forward for The Flash, which will star Grant Gustin in the title role.

The Flash would have appeared as Barry Allen in Arrow episodes 8, 9, and 20. The last one would have served as a backdoor pilot, which is being directed by David Nutter. Here's an explanation of what the network is doing now, "Episodes 8 and 9, in which the superhero is introduced only as his alter ego Barry Allen, have already been shot. But now the CW has opted to film a traditional stand-alone Flash pilot instead of doing a  backdoor pilot as Arrow‘s Episode 20. With Episodes 8 and 9 serving as an origin story, the plan was for The Flash character to make his debut — red costume and all — in Arrow‘s Episode 20. He will now do it in the pilot."

Apparently The CW is very happy with what they saw of Barry Allen with Episode 8 and 9. Filming a stand-alone Flash pilot would allow them to better "flesh out the superhero’s story and his world on a bigger budget, as pilot budgets are significantly higher than episodic ones." There's no word on if The Flash will still appear in episode 20, but it doesn't sound like it. Maybe they will reference him, though.

Barry Allen will be introduced in Arrow as "a Central City assistant police forensics investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. A comic book fanboy, Barry is obsessed with the Arrow unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante."

Arrow has been a great series, and hopefully they can do the same thing with The Flash.

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE Is Getting a Sequel

its-a-wonderful-life-getting-a-sequel.jpg

Frank Capra's classic Christmas movie It's A Wonderful Life, which starred Jimmy Stewart, is getting a sequel after all these years. I really enjoyed this film. I watch it every year, and I never thought I would see a sequel to it, but it's actually happening.

The sequel will be called It’s A Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story, and producers are trying to get the movie into theaters for the 2015 holiday season. It seems like a weird title, but here are some details on the film from Variety,

Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey’s daughter “Zuzu” in the original,  will return for the “Wonderful Life” sequel as an angel who shows Bailey’s unlikeable grandson (also named George Bailey) how much better off the world would have been had he never been born.

Grimes, of course, bellowed the iconic line, “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings!” in the original movie, about a troubled family man (Stewart) whose near-suicide on Christmas Eve brings on the intervention of his guardian angel.

Producer Bob Farnsworth and Martha Bolton wrote the screenplay, and Farnsworth had this to say in a statement,

“The storyline of the new film retains the spirit of the original – every life is important as long as you have friends.”

Grimes talked about the film, saying,

“The new film will retain the feeling of the original, and it simply must be shared. I’ve probably read close to 20 scripts over the years suggesting a sequel to ‘It’s a Wonderful Life,’ but none of them were any good. The script by Bob Farnsworth and Martha Bolton was wonderful, and I wanted to be involved with his version of the film immediately.”

As of right now there have been no decisions made on casting or a director, but producers are looking for them. Discussions have already begun with original cast members Jimmy Hawkins, who portrayed Tommy Bailey, and Carol Coombs, who played Janie Bailey, to reprise their roles.

The sequel will shoot in Louisiana with a budget of between $25 and $35 million. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Joe Dante to Direct Anton Yelchin in BURYING THE EX

The Burbs director Joe Dante is set to direct a big screen adaptation of the short film Burying the Ex.  The full-length feature will star Ashley Greene (The Twilight Saga), Anton Yelchin (Fright Night), Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson, Texas Chainsaw 3D), and Oliver Cooper (Project X).

According to The Wrap, the story "follows Max (Yelchin) and Evelyn (Greene) as their relationship takes a nose dive once they move in together. Max discovers how controlling and manipulative Evelyn is but he’s too scared to break up with her. When fate steps in and Evelyn dies in a freak accident, newly-single Max prepares to move on with Olivia (Daddario). His romantic life becomes complicated when Evelyn rises from the grave and sets out to get her boyfriend back, even if that means turning him into one of the undead."

I've enjoyed the films that Dante has made over the course of his career. Some of his other films include Gremlins, The Howling, Explorers, Inner Space, and most recently, a film called The Hole.

I'm sure it will include a ton of art that we've never seen before. This seems a must have for every Star Wars fans.

Studio Ghibli has released a 6-minute long trailer for their incredible looking animated feature film The Legend of Princess Kaguya. I love traditionally animated films, the art is basically dead outside of TV, so it's good that Studio Ghibli is keeping the form alive.

The movie was directed by Ghibli co-founder, Isao Takahata, who also directed the beautifully animated Grave of the Fireflies. This movie is based on Japanese folklore and was specifically inspired by The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. It's a 10th century work that is the oldest surviving folktale in Japanese literature.

The legend of princess Kaguya centers on "a pocket-sized baby who was discovered by an old bamboo cutter named Taketori no Okina, while growing inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant." The animation style is very different and absolutely beautiful!

The movie will open on November 23 in Japan. There is no US release date for the film yet.

Casey Jones Will Not Appear in TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

Ever since that godawful script leaked onto the internet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot has had to do a lot to get back into our good graces. We've received assurance from both Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird (the creators of our favorite heroes in a half shell) that the previous script was thrown out and that they are indeed mutants and not aliens. But things get worse before they get better because the saddening news broke that Megan Fox was cast as April O'Neil. I was still holding out hope, though. After all, William Fichtner was cast as Shredder and even though he isn't of Japanese descent, I think he'll be great at playing this sinister role.

A couple of weeks ago I had a conversation with a source very close to the production, and I asked the one question that had been on my mind since the reboot was announced, will Casey Jones appear in the film? The answer I got, sadly, was a defeating "No." Instead of Casey Jones (my favorite TMNT character), the film is making Will Arnett's role as Vernon Fenwick bigger. Now that isn't to say we won't see Casey Jones in the future. William Fichtner recently said that he signed on for 3 films. But I'm still peeved.

My optimism is lowering for this reboot. Although I heard that the action is over the top greatness, comparable to The Raid... I'll believe it when I see it.

So far, James Wan's Insidious horror franchise has been amazing! This is one of my favorite horror franchises, and I hope they can keep up with the awesomeness of it with the third chapter.

Focus Features has announced that Insidious: Chapter 3 will be released on April 3rd, 2015. So 2015 just got even more awesome! I can't believe how awesome 2015 is going to be for movies!

Franchise writer Leigh Whannell is coming back to write the script, but there's no word yet on who will direct it. I can only hope that Wan comes back to take it on.
