Sharlto Copley Floats in Space In THE EUROPA REPORT Image

$

Sharlto Copley (The A-Team, District 9) can be seen floating in space in the first image from The Europa Report. Sebastian Cordero directed the sci-fi film, which also stars Michael Nyqvist, Daniel Wu, Anamaria Marinca, Christian Camargo, and Karolina Wydra.

The Europa Report follows a "group of astronauts make the arduous journey to Jupiter's frigid, glacial moon Europa in search of extraterrestrial life. The only thing more intimidating and unpredictable than the trip itself is what the team will encounter upon arrival."

I love sci-fi movies, and think this sounds pretty cool. There reallly is something scary about being so alone out in space. What are your thoughts on this scanned image from Entertainment Weekly via Comingsoon?

Blu-ray Review: LADY AND THE TRAMP Is Disney Magic at Its Best!

$
0
0

Disney's Lady and the Tramp has arrived on Blu-ray in a beautiful Diamond Edition. This classic animated film features the voice work of Barbara Luddy (Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians), Larry Roberts, Peggy Lee, Bill Thompson (Peter Pan, Alice In Wonderland), Bill Baucom (The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, Judge Roy Bean), Stan Freberg (Stuart Little, Looney Tunes: Back In Action), Lee Millar (I Love Lucy, The George and Gracie Allen Show).

Lady and the Tramp is a timeless tale of romance that people from any generation can relate to. The story follows "a lovely young pedigreed cocker spaniel named Lady, who lives a pampered life, finds herself falling romantically for Tramp, an amorous street-smart pooch without prospects. Although they have fun together on several dates, including a sentimental spaghetti dinner by moonlight at Tony’s restaurant, their relationship is strained not only by Lady’s loyalty to her human family and their newborn baby, but by Tramp’s devil-may-care attitude that eventually gets Lady in trouble and tossed into the dog pound."

What makes this film so easy to relate to is the simplicity of the story. After a few minutes of watching, you start seeing Lady and the Tramp as people instead of dogs. The voice cast is one of my favorites from a classic Disney film. When I watched this film as a kid, I remember being so scared by the Policeman on the same level I was frightened by the forest fire in Bambi. Lady and the Tramp has so many classic moments. The moment between Lady and the Tramp at the restaurant with the spaghetti will live on in my mind forever. It was cool to see that scene again after so many years with my wife. Another memorable scene was the Si Am sequence. I have always liked dogs more than cats (sorry cat lovers), and that scene may be a reason why. The rat in the film is so dark and vicious and scared me as a kid.

This is a must-own disc for animation lovers. The Diamond Edition Blu-ray adds new life to the colors, as they seem to jump off of the screen. The colors are not bright and dazzling like a modern-day animated film. The classic muted tones are superb for this story. This form of hand-drawn animation took so many people and so much time, and it shows. The animators got the dog movements perfectly. The animation coupled with the work of the voice actors create such a memorable film that will stay with you long after it's done. The film would have looked fabulous in "Cinemascope" wide-screen in theaters, but it looks beautiful on Blu-ray.

Special Features:

The film is great alone, but the special features make this disc well worth the price of admission. The Making of the Lady and the Tramp is my personal favorite feature. Having grown up in Missouri, the video takes audiences on a journey into the creation of the film and into Walt Disney's life. This video extra is the longest of the features, and has multiple sections. Every question you could ever want to know is answered by The Making of the Lady and the Tramp. Learn about the story, the animation, the dogs, the voice actors and much more with these in-depth bonus features.

In Conclusion:

Take a journey back in time with this beautifully animated and crafted story. Lady and the Tramp is such a wonderful addition to any DVD collection. After re-watching this film, Lady and the Tramp has jumped to the top of my list of favorite Walt Disney movies. This is a perfect film to watch on Valentine's Day, but is a great film to watch whenever you need a dose of classic hand-drawn animation. Lady and the Tramp is currently available in Diamond Edition Blu-ray and DVD for a limited time.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER - First Footage from the Film Revealed!

$

0

Finally we have our first look at actual footage from the highly anticipated film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter! The footage was shown during an interview with the film's star Benjamin Walker on CBS. The full trailer for the film is set to be released tomorrow so stay tuned for that!

The film was directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and stars Walker as Abe Lincoln. The story focuses on the president who after having his mother murdered by monsters, is on a quest to rid the world of the evil vampires. The cast also includes Anthony MackieJimmi Simpson, and Mary Elisabeth Winstead. It's an   adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's awesome novel.

Here's the Synopsis:

Abraham LincolnVampire Hunter is a re-imagining of the 16th President's life that depicts him as an axe-throwing, highly accomplished killer of vampires -- an obsession of his since those bloodsuckers supposedly took the life of his mother. Lincoln eventually learns that the vampires have fled to the southern states of the U.S. and are concocting a plan to conquer and enslave the entire country -- this in turn leads to the Civil War between the Union and the Confederacy, the latter of which the vampires are aligned with.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on June 22th 2012. Check out the footage below and tell us what you think!

WALL-E and BATTLEFIELD 3 Trailer Mashup

Here's a funny video featuring a mashup of 2 extremely different worlds: Pixar's Wall-E and the video game Battlefield 3. The video takes the audio straight from the Wall-E trailer and replaces the visuals with footage from BF3. The EOD Bot takes on the Wall-E character while the MAV fills in for EVE.

We've seen a lot of great movie trailer mashups, and after seeing this I'd like to start seeing more movie and video game trailer mashups. Check out the video below! Enjoy!

Here's the official Wall-E trailer for comparison.

Full Teaser Trailer for ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

$

Ever since 2009, Seth Grahame-Smith has been publishing literary mash-ups--blending together classics with sci-fi/horror staples like zombies and vampires. The first book Grahame-Smith published, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, was the first to be chosen for a film adaptation, but after losing three separate directors, it's been stuck development hell. However, Grahame-Smith's next book had better luck attracting a director/producer team, the acclaimed Timur Bekmemtov (Wanted) and producer Tim Burton. Together, they've fashioned a new history for one of America's most beloved Presidents - Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Here's the sysnopsis:

The film explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation. As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war – and ultimately to the presidency – he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.

I like the use of Johnny Cash, not as a singer but just as a darn good voice. The visuals look pretty cool, though a little more of the story would be appreciated. Hopefully the next trailer will be more obliging. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter stars Benjamin WalkerMary Elizabeth WinsteadAlan TudykAnthony MackieRufus SewellErin Wasson, and Dominic Cooper, and it will be released June 22nd. Do you think Abraham Lincoln can be reinvented as a vampire-killing action hero?

Mattel Finally Releasing BACK TO THE FUTURE II Hoverboard!

$

What kid in the late 80's/early 90's didn't want a Hoverboard after watching Marty McFly flying around on on in Back to the Future II? I remember having conversations with friends in elementary school about the hoverboard actually being real, and that it was going to come out soon. Unfortunately, I came to learn that it wasn't real, and it was the first time special effects disappointed the hell out of me because I wanted it to be real so badly!

We still have yet to see usable Hoverboard technology, but over the years I've seen a few cool replicas. This new Hoverboard replica that Mattle has announced at this years Toy Fair is by far the best looking one that I've seen. For those of you looking to get one they will go on pre-sale March 1st to March 20th 2012, and they will be shopped out in December just in time for Christmas.

Here's some details on the product from the press release:

Back to the Future Hover Board: Finally! This totally awesome 1:1 replica of the hover board from the BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 films includes multiple whooshing sounds and will glide over most surfaces (does not actually “hover” – check back in 2015 for that feature). We’ll be taking orders for it March 1 – March 20, 2012, and the final product will be shipped around November/December 2012. Because this is such a high-cost item, there will be a minimum number of orders required to go into production. If we don’t receive the minimum orders, won’t go into production and customers will not be charged. The price will be announced later this month. (Note: Hover board does not work on water.)

As awesome as this is... I'm still waiting for the real thing! I've been waiting since 1989!

BEETLEJUICE Sequel Is a Top Priority for Tim Burton, Warner Bros, and Michael Keaton

$

0

It looks like a sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 classic Beetlejuice is closer to being made than I thought. I knew the script was being written, but I didn't know that everyone was excited enouph about it to make it a top priority. The script for the film is set to be written by Seth Grahame-Smith, author of the book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which was adapted into a film, the trailer for which was just released. Smith recently did an interview with STYD and he talks about his meeting with Michael Keaton and reveals reveals the following:

We talked for a couple of hours and talked about big picture stuff.  It's a priority for Warner Bros. It's a priority for Tim.

He then goes on to say that Keaton's interest and excitement for the sequel is

Huge, he's been wanting to do it for 20 years and he'll talk to anybody about it who will listen. I really told him, I have a huge reverence for Tim and a huge reverence for that film in general.  I don't think we should do it if we shit on the legacy.  He agrees.  So, right now, it remains to be seen, I have a couple of story ideas, but we're very early out.

I would love to see Keaton back to reprise his role, and I hope it happens. I miss seeing Keaton in movies, he should be doing a lot more than what we've seen him in. I still think the guy is a lead actor that should be taking on some awesome roles.

What are your thoughts on seeing a Beetlejuice sequel, and Keaton reprising his role?

DARK SHADOWS - New Image Featuring Johnny Depp and Eva Green

Warner Bros. has released a new image from Tim Burton's Dark Shadows featuring the beautiful Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard, a witch driven by her love/hate relationship with Johnny Depp's character Barnabas Collins.

The film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, and Gulliver McGrath. It was written by Seth Grahame-Smith and comes out May 11th, 2012.

Do you like what you've seen from this movie so far?

Here's a description of the movie:

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Depp) has the world at his feet--or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine.

The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972.

He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

Here's our first look at some poster art for DreamWorks animations upcoming CGI animated film The Croods. The movie is being directed by Chris Sanders, who has made a couple of other great animated movies such as Lilo & Stitch and How To Train your Dragon

The film will include an all star cast of voices that includes Nicolas Cage, Ryan ReynoldsEmma StoneCatherine Keener, and Cloris Leachman

Here's a little official synopsis for the film giving us some story details:

The Croods takes us back to the beginning – to a previously undiscovered era known as the Croodacious – a time when Mother Nature was still experimenting and the flora and fauna we know today had yet to evolve. At the heart of this comically chaotic world is the Crood family, led by Grug, an over-protective father who, like all dads, is doing everything he can to hold his family together as the world around them changes at a dramatic pace. The Croods is scheduled for release in the spring of 2013.

DreamWorks animated films have been getting better and better over the years, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. It looks like it could be a entertaining flick. It's got a great director attached, as well as a great cast. Any thoughts?

JOHN CARTER Featurette Includes New Footage

$

Disney has released another featurette for John Carter, and it includes some new footage that we haven't seen yet. The video also features behind the scenes interviews with director Andrew Stanton and the cast of the film talking about how the original Edgar Rice Burrough's novel Princess of Mars inspired everything we've seen done in sci-fi fantasy films over the years. I'll be honest, I'm still a bit worried about this adaptation. I'm not seeing the epic awesomeness in the footage I've seen that I imagined while reading the book. It's got too much of a Disney polish. I'll still see the movie because I'm a huge fan of the story, I'm just hoping it exceeds my expectations.

The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church, and Ciarán Hinds.

Here's the Synopsis:

The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

John Carter arrives in theaters on March 9th, 2012. Check out the new video featurette below. As the release date for the film gets closer are you getting more excited?

Disney's MALEFICENT Will Be Angelina Jolie's Next Film

$

Angelina Jolie is going to be perfect as the evil sorceress Maleficent in the upcoming live action Disney adaptation of Sleeping Beauty. Jolie revealed that Maleficent will be her next movie, which means the movie is starting to actually gain some momentum. When she was asked about the next step in her career she said,

I haven't acted in two years, and I haven't done anything else since this [Land of Blood and Honey]. The next thing I am looking at is a Disney movie.

Last month it was reported that visual effects artist Robert Stromberg would be directing the film, taking over for Tim Burton, who dropped out. Stromberg has worked on films such as Shutter Island, The Road, Tropic Thunder, There Will Be Blood, Pan's Labyrinth, Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, and a ton of other movies. He seems to have a great artistic eye, so it will be cool to see what he comes up with. The big question is: how good is he at telling stories?

The movie has previously been described as "a re-telling of the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty, this time told from the vantage point of the evil witch." This is a fun concept, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

What are your thoughts on Jolie taking on Maleficent?

I found the image above on DisneyWki.

Could Bill Murray Be Replaced By Another Actor in GHOSTBUSTERS 3?

$
0
0

The road to Ghostbusters 3 has been a long and disastrous one. We've heard a lot of rumors over the years, mostly revolving around Bill Murray not wanting to come back and do it. In a recent interview with Empire Dan Aykroyd addresses some of these rumors and gives an update on the film and where it currently stands. He starts out by giving an update on the status of Rick Moranis

If we can get the script to Ghostbusters 3 right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant.

It would be great to see Maranis back in this franchise. I hope they can get him. He took himself out of the limelight after his wife died of cancer. Aykroyd goes on to talk about working on the script being perfect, because it doesn't sound like they will make the movie if it isn't.

The script must be perfect. We cannot release a film that is any less than that. We have more work to do.

He then addresses one of those internet rumors that leaked out about Bill Murray. The one where he supposedly shredded the script for the movie and sent it back with a note that said, "No-one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts". When Aykroyd was asked about this here's what he said,

Bill Murray is not capable of such behaviour. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work.

Empire speculates that "Bill Murray may not return as Peter Venkman, and that the character could be played by a different actor, a la Jack Ryan." It wouldn't work if they replaced Murray. The fans would be up in arms and ready to start a war. Murray is Venkman, if he ends up not doing it then there's really no point of having the character in the movie. If they move forward on making the film, and Murray won't be a part of it then they might as well cut the character out completely.

What do you think about all this?
