Toy Story of Terror: First Promo Videos

0
0

I saw 10min of Toy Story of Terror at the D23 Expo, and it was completely riveting. I can't wait to watch the full TV special. It is so good, I wish it were a whole movie. They reference a lot of classic horror films, then they mix in our favorite Toy Story characters for many tense and funny moments. If you're a fan, it's a must watch.

Toy Story of Terror will be on ABC October 16th, 2013.

XM-Studios commissioned Stanley Lau to create concept art for Captain America and Hulk, which sculptors Mufizal and Alejandro Pereira Ezcurra then turned into collectible statues. The work of all 3 artists really captures the iconic comic book designs. Thanks Xombiedirge.

First Photo From Brad Pitt's WWII Tank Film - FURY

Here's out first look at the main cast of David Ayer's World War II tank film, Fury. The director posted the above photo on his Twitter page, and it features Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena, and Jon Bernthal.

Ayer's most recent film was End of Watch, which was amazing. Fury will be the director's first period film. It takes place in 1945 as the Nazi regime collapses.

The story follows the five man crew of an American tank called Fury who battle a desperate German army. The director previously said that the goal is to "bring a fresh execution to the genre," adding, "What these men went through is worthy of a complex, honest portrayal. This will have incredible, visceral action and complex rich characters. I plan to bring tank combat to life in a way that lands with a modern audience."

I'm a big fan of Ayer's work, and as a fan of period war dramas, I'm excited to see how this turns out. The next film to be released from the director will be Arnold Schwarzenegger's Ten. What do you think about the first image from Fury?

Marvel Looking to Develop AGENT CARTER TV Series

agent-Peggy-Carter.jpg

Marvel is looking to get another TV series into development, and according to Deadline, they want to make one for Agent Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The series was inspired by the Marvel "One Shot" short film that will be released with the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray, called "Agent Carter." It basically centers on Carter's life as a secret agent after Captain America crashes and freezes in ice.

According to the report, the project is in very early stages right now, and as expected, it's one of several series in the works at Marvel. They are in the process of hiring a writer for it. If the series does happen, there's no word on if Atwell will reprise her role, but I imagine she would, as she seems to really enjoy playing the character. Personally, I'd like to finally see Guillermo del Toro's Hulk series move into production.

It's also interesting to note that Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D. was also inspired by one of the studio's other One Shots, Item 47

Would you like to see an Agent Carter TV series? What other Marvel characters would you like to see on the small screen?

Saoirse Ronan up for STAR WARS VII, Benedict Cumberbatch Confirmed?

We've got some more cool Star Wars: Episode VII casting news for you. The news comes from Latino-Review and independently verified by the sources of Bleeding Cool, and it includes some new casting information, an update on Benedict Cumberbatche's casting situation, and some location shooting news.

Saoirse-Ronan-the-host.jpg

According to both sites, The Host star Saorise Ronan went in and auditioned for one of the lead female roles in the movie. There's no confirmation of what role she read for, but it was also revealed that there will be a female villain in the story as well. She could have gone in for either that role or the role of Han Solo's daughter. Ronan is an amazing young actress, and it doesn't surprise me that they would want her to be in the movie.

Then there's the whole Benedict Cumberbatch casting news. As expected, the studio and reps have been denying the story up and down, but Latino-Review is so confident that the actor has already been cast in the next three films that they say this....

DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE ABOUT BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH NOT BEING IN STAR WARS. HE IS IN THE MOVIE! In fact, he will be in all three Star Wars films! It’s all a smoke screen. Folks, remember when Cumberbatch denied being Khan for over a year? Same situation here. At least give us the benefit of the doubt hence why we are bringing this up. Point is, he lied before and he can lie again. Google it. One more time because it is worth repeating, Benedict Cumberbatch will be in the upcoming Star Wars movies. I don’t care if he denies it till opening day. We were right before about him playing Khan, and we will be right again on this one. Technically, his part in Episode VII is very small but the role is much bigger in Episode VIII and Episode IX.

That's confidence friends. This really looks like its going to happen, and like all of you, I couldn't be more excited!

Then there's the shooting location news. It was reported that part of the film would be shot in Mexico, and they reveal that the exact location will be Las Cruces, The City of Crosses.

It's going to be a fun wild ride watching these Star Wars movies all come together! What do you think about the possibility of Ronan's casting, and the Cumberbatch confirmation?

Roland Emmerich Creates Alien Mythology for INDEPENDENCE DAY 2

Roland Emmerich's Independence Day sequel is slowly moving forward, but I think it will eventually happen. The last we heard, Will Smith and Emmerich were going to meet and talk about the possibility of the actor's return to the franchise. It'd be cool if he actually signed on to do it, but if he doesn't, I think the sequel will be just as good without him. As long as they have a solid story, that's all that matters. In a recent interview with Empire, the director talks about where the sequel currently sits and reveals that he created a mythology for the aliens

"I should get the script pretty soon, Then I'll try to get it into good shape for one or two months and, if that happens, we'll announce it and start production… We've created a mythology around these aliens, which is really cool. You have to create a mythology because people want to see a bigger picture."

Emmerich previously said that he would like to make at least two more Independence Day movies, but says they will only focus on the first sequel until after it's released, and they get a sense of the audience reaction.

"We'll only do the first part, because we want to have the audience decide if they want to see the second. Otherwise it feels arrogant. But I'm pretty confident, with the right script…"

The director goes on to talk about a couple other projects he's working on that include Singularity and Foundation. To read more about what is going on with those projects, click here

It's been about 20 years since Independence Day was released, and it's kind of exciting to think we will get to see that fun sci-fi story continue.

Join us this week as pick up where we left off last week discussing Metal Gear Solid V, but don't fret! It's not all serious, as we also talk about a number of amazing looking Kickstarter projects, including Taxi Journey, Sunless Sea, and Neverending Nightmares. We also go over XCOM: The Bureau, as well as the new family sharing feature on Steam. In the Colartibles we spotlight what Edi (Mass Effect) would look like if made entirely of paper. In our just for the hell of it, we spotlight a Kickstarted graphic novel called Fubar: Mother of Russia. Hope you enjoy the show!

P.S. Music this episode was from Mass Effect 2 and The Secret of Mana.

World War Z: Honest Trailer

I love the book World War Z. Trailers for the movie adaptation showed how little they used from the book, and I had zero interest in watching the movie in theaters. After watching the Honest Trailer from Screen Junkies, I'm very glad I didn't. Perhaps I'll watch it on Netflix, because it does look like it might have some cool, over the top action despite completely ignoring the source material.

Simon Pegg to Play an Assassin in KILL ME THREE TIMES

simon-pegg-to-play-an-assassin-in-kill-me-three-times-header.jpg

Simon Pegg, Teresa Palmer, Sonia Braga, and Luke Hemsworth have been cast in a new crime thriller called Kill Me Three Times. This is a very different kind of project for Pegg, who is mostly known for his comedic roles. Even in the more serious films he's done he's kind of been the comic relief. In this film he plays an assassin, so that will be interesting and cool! Deadline describes the story...

A singer in a surf town (Braga) is the link between three tales of murder, blackmail, and revenge. Pegg plays an assassin hired by the singer’s husband; Stapleton is a gambling addict trying to pay off his debts through a life insurance scam masterminded by Palmer’s small town Lady Macbeth. Brown is a corrupt cop and Hemsworth plays a surfer trying to save Braga from her would-be killer.

The film will be directed by Kriv Stenders, who directed the Australia's biggest film of 2011, Red Dog, which I haven't seen.

What do you think of Pegg playing an assassin?

Disney has shifted around a bunch of release dates for some of their highly anticipated films, so here's what's going on!

Maleficent will now be out on May 30th, 2014.

The Good Dinosaur will be released on November 25th, 2015.

Finding Dory  will be released on June 17th, 2016. disney-gives-new-release-dates-to-maleficent-finding-dori-and-good-dinosaur-header-2.jpg

Last month, Good Dinosaur director Bob Peterson was let go as the director of the film, which is one of the main reasons why they shifted the release dates around. A new director has yet to be announced for the film, which was originally supposed to be released in June of 2014. Now Pixar doesn't have any films being released that year.

Regarding the director being let go, Pixar president Ed Catmull has this to say in a statement to the LA Times:

Nobody ever remembers the fact that you slipped a film, but they will remember a bad film. Our conclusion was that we were going to give the [dinosaur] film some more time.

So they didn't really like the direction that the movie is going, which is interesting because they showed some really fun footage from it at the D23 Expo. What's done is done though, and they are doing what they feel is right for the movie. I'm sure in the end, the movie will end up being great, and Pixar fans will be happy.

Watch The Teenage Mutant Koopa Troopas by James Farr

Referencing elements from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series and video game, as well as numerous nods to the Mario series, this video gets high marks in my book. "Turtles in Time" is one of my favorite SNES games of all time, so I was really loving all of this. Awesome job as usual, James Farr.

Disney Developing HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME Series for ABC

disney-developing-hunchback-of-notre-dame-series-for-abc-header.jpg

Disney is teaming back up with Snow White and the Huntsman writer Evan Daugherty to developed an event series for ABC based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The series will be called Esmeralda, and it is described as a period drama and reimagining of the classic story, told through the eyes of the beautiful Esmeralda.

This will be the second time that Disney has worked with this story. Back in 1996 Disney created a great, dark animated feature that ended up becoming one of my favorite Disney films. They really did a great job with that one, and the artwork done for it was pretty amazing. There were some pretty awesome sequences in it.

I'm curious to see how this event series turns out, but there's a good chance it could be really good. There's a lot of potential, and ABC makes sure they have solid production value in the things that they do.

This may not be a sci-fi or comic book/superhero short film, but it is still staggeringly badass! This is a 7-minute long beautifully illustrated animatic that tells the true story of an experience Colby Buzzell had while serving his country in Iraq. The short is called "Men in Black," and it's just part of a feature-length documentary called Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience. I believe Buzzell is also the narrator of this short. It was grippingly illustrated by Christopher Koelle, and it really does a great job of driving your emotions. I was hooked right away, and I really hope you like this one.

Thrilling New International Trailer for SNOWPIERCER

You're going to want to watch this French trailer for Bong Joon Ho's post-apocalyptic set thriller Snowpiercer! The movie looks better and better the more I see of it, and this trailer is packed with a lot more new footage that gives us a better sense of how the movie will play out.

It's based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, and the the story "is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews."

The movie stars Chris EvansJohn Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, Ed Harris, Ewen Bremner, Octavia Spencer, Kang-ho Song, and Ko Asung. It will most likely be released in the U.S. sometime in spring 2014.

Brilliant TITANFALL Fan Art

The upcoming Titanfall release has generated a lot of hype which is good and bad. It greatly increases expectations which makes the game more likely to be a disappointment, but at least we are getting some wonderful art out of it. Twitter user @am1143xx posted some of his pieces, and I am very impressed. I would love to see these get produced as posters. You can check out more of his work at his Tumblr page.

Artist Dave Rapoza created this really cool series of X-Men portraits featuring several of our favorite characters. We've featured a lot of great art from Rapoza in the past, and I really like these X-Men pieces that he made. I've always loved the old school Wolverine X-men costume shown above. It's too bad we'll never see it in a movie.

Michael Bay Hires Screenwriters for GHOST RECON

michael-bay-hires-screenwriters-for-ghost-recon-header.jpg

Ubisoft and producer Michael Bay have hired a couple of screenwriters to take a crack at the script for the big screen adaptation of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon.  The writers they hired are Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia, who also worked on the feature film adaptation of Y: The Last Man

The games revolve around "a fictional unit of the U.S. Army Special Forces that essentially operates as the President’s private army, using the latest technology to infiltrate and take down threats around the world without leaving any traces behind that they exist."

There's a chance that Bay could end up directing this film, which I would actually love to see. I think he is a solid choice to adapt this game. If I got to chose any director to take it on, though, I think James Cameron would be perfect. But in the end, I think it would be great if Bay ended up bringing it to life.

I have high hopes for the future of video game movies. We're in an era where they might actually get done right!

Despicable Me's minions have become a huge hit. Everyone loves them, and we've been seeing a ton of mashup art. Here's a couple of great Star Wars Minion t-shirt designs that I thought you'd enjoy. They come from Ript Appeal. The design above is called "Despicable Jawas," and it was designed by DJKopet. The one below is called "Empiracle Me," created by nikholmes.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD - Character Posters for Lady Sif and Jane Foster

Lady Sif Thor The Dark World.jpg

Marvel has released a couple new character posters for Thor: The Dark World featuring Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). I have a feeling these two characters aren't going to get along very well at first in the movie. I think there are going to be some jealousy issues. The movie is set to be released in the U.S. on November 8th!

Jane Foster Thor The Dark World.jpg

The story follows Thor "as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all."
