SKINWALKER RANCH Paranormal Film - Poster, Clip, and Viral Videos
I've been fascinated by this Skinwalker Ranch since I first heard about it a few years ago. It's an actual place in Utah that is known for having a ton of paranormal activity. It was only a matter of time before someone was inspired to make a movie about it. The stuff I've heard about the place is a lot more interesting than this film will end up being, though. My brother and some friends actually snuck onto the property at one point and saw a few crazy things of their own.
The movie was made in the found footage style, and it's based on a few of the legends from the area. Today we have a poster, clip, and some viral videos talking about Skinwalker Ranch and what it is.
The movie stars Jon Gries, Kyle Davis, Steve Berg, and Devin McGinn. Here's the synopsis:
The film is inspired by true-events and reports around “Skinwalker Ranch" in NE Utah, which started gaining media attention a few years ago (including Jesse Ventura’s ‘Conspiracy Theory’ and most recently ‘Joe Rogan Questions Everything’ on SyFy) after years’ worth of reports of a wide range of unexplained phenomena. The film touches on these reports ranging from mysterious orbs and alleged UFO sightings to giant wolf-like creatures and livestock mutilation.
It is a found footage movie that starts with the disappearance of ranch owner Hoyt Miller’s eight year old son, Cody on November 11, 2010. Modern Defense Enterprises (MDE) sent a team of experts to document and investigate the mysterious occurrences, which only escalate upon their arrival… The incidents become more violent, causing tensions to rise as the team must decide how far they will go to unlock the mysteries of “Skinwalker Ranch.” The group debates whether the answers are worth risking their lives for, or if they should just call off the investigation and leave the ranch – that is, if leaving is actually an option…

DIABLO III Auction House to Be Eliminated
Big changes are in store for Diablo III. Blizzard announced that as of March 18th, 2014, both the real money and gold Auction Houses will be no more.
On the official Diablo III blog, the developers posted a video explaining why they are planning on shutting the Auction House (commonly shortened to AH) down. In short, their reasoning is the AH ruined the standard Diablo reward structure. The point of the game is the kill monsters and get loot. The AH allowed players to skip a step and go straight to getting loot.
I can’t say I’m completely surprised by this announcement. With the announcement of “Loot 2.0,” the AH was becoming obsolete anyways. Loot 2.0 is the new loot system designed to give players less, more powerful loot for the specific class. Rather than getting loads of worthless loot for every class in the game, you will get loot specific to your class that is actually good enough to keep.
I wonder how powerful the public backlash will be. I like the idea of the new system since I hated having to use the AH if I wanted to even stand a chance in the higher difficulty levels. Sure, it was better than grinding, but hopefully Loot 2.0 will help reduce the grinding time as well.

THE DARK KNIGHT LEGACY - Fan-Made Film Follows Robin's Story
Here's a cool Batman fan film that is supposed to be set in Christopher Nolan's universe. The film is called The Dark Knight Legacy, and it's set one year after the Dark Knight Rises ends. It follows John Blake, a.k.a. Robin, and his "heroic journey to protect the symbol of Batman from the lethal, relentless attacks of a masked vigilante known only as the Red Hood." The short was directed by Brett Register, and it's done really well.
The plan is to turn this into a web-series, so this would be considered the first episode. There's an Indie GoGo page that was set up to try to get the funding to continue their story. Watch the short for yourself, and if you like it, let the filmmakers know!

Ron Howard's THE DARK TOWER Project Is Still Alive!
It's been awhile since we've heard anything on that epic big screen adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower being developed by Ron Howard. Even though almost ever major studio has passed on the project, Howard isn't giving up hope, and the project isn't dead yet. Here is the update that the direct gave to Empire in a recent interview,
"The Dark Tower is something that we’re still working on. We’ve all taken a vow of silence about the progress, the headway, what we think our timetable is, because I don’t think I realised how much media interest there was in the title and how much excitement there was.
"It’s a fascinating, powerful possibility and even Stephen King acknowledges it’s a tricky adaptation, but to be honest, from a financing side, it’s not a straightforward, four-quadrant, sunny superhero story – it’s dark, it’s horror. That edge is what appeals to me, the complexities of those characters is what appeals to all of us. And I think Stephen King really respects that, with [regular screenwriting collaborator] Akiva Goldsman and myself, that that’s what we love about it, and that’s what we want to try to get to the screen.
"So my answer is: it got delayed, it’s never gone away. We’re working on it, and Stephen is very patient with us, and Akiva’s just gone off and directed a movie [an adaptation of Mark Helprin’s novel, Winter’s Tale, starring Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, Jessica Brown Findlay, Jennifer Connelly and Will Smith], I’m continuing to work, but the Dark Tower dreams – fever dreams, rather – are still there, but we’re not going to give it a timetable."
This is one of my favorite book series of all time, and I hope that one day that the movie actually happens. I love Howard's plan for it, and if it happens I'm sure it's going to be epic! The plan is to turn it into a trilogy of films with a tie-in television series featuring the same cast. Last we heard, Russell Crowe was interested in the role of Roland the Gunslinger.

We've got a new red-rand trailer for Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills! The new trailer features more footage of Mel Gibson being a villainous asshole, as well as some more over the top blood and guts craziness. It looks like they had fun killing people with helicopters in this movie. The movie hits theaters on October 11th, and if you enjoyed the insanity of the first film, then I'm sure you'll be entertained by the sequel, which looks even more ridiculous.

Dark CG Animated Comedy Short - SERIAL TAXI
Animator Paolo Cogliati sent us this fantastic dark CG animated comedy that he made called "Serial Taxi." The short centers on a young businesswoman who takes "a chilling ride when she realizes her cab driver could be the notorious Taxi Killer." Cogliati is currently an intern at LAIKI working as a CG animator on their upcoming new film The Boxtrolls, and as you'll see, the guy is very talented. I hope you enjoy the short!

Terrifying Pennywise the Clown Stalks the Streets of England
Pennywise the Clown from Stephen King's IT is one of the most terrifying clowns ever. Now there's a real life version of him stalking the streets of Northampton, England! I'm not a big fan of clowns as it is, so if I see this guy you could bet your ass I'm taking off in the other direction.
The identity of said clown has become something of an obsession on Twitter, with the hashtag #northamptonclown used to speculate on the reasons for his weird existence. The Northampton Herald initially reported that he knocked on someone's door and offered to paint their window sills despite having no painting equipment with him, a story the clown later refuted on his Facebook page. Which he apparently runs himself.
"Too much hate not enough love," the clown wrote in response to all the terrified comments left on the page. "No, i don't have a knife on me!, that's just stupid rumours spread by stupid people."
Some are saying the clown should pack it in, that his antics (which seem to involve just staring) have gone beyond a joke. Others are saying he's harmless, and simply trying to bring a bit of joy to the residents of Northampton.
"If what I am doing does get too much for people," wrote the clown, "I will have to stop."
I found this bit of crazy news over on Geekologie, which sums up the whole situation perfectly in the following statement...
"I think the scariest thing is how nice he is about the whole thing. It's like, if you have a creepy looking clown who's purposefully acting scary, that's one thing -- that's what you expect. But if you have a creepy looking clown who's being nice, that's when you know you're dealing with a real psychopath. Good luck with that, Northampton."

Trailer and Clip for Alexander Payne's NEBRASKA

We've got a trailer and clip for Alexander Payne's new film Nebraska, which stars Bruce Dern and Will Forte. Payne is the director behind films such as Election, Sideways, and most recently, The Descendants. If you enjoy his filmmaking style, then I'm sure this is a movie you'll want to see. I'm personally a big fan of Dern, and this looks like a great role for him.
After receiving a sweepstakes letter in the mail, a cantankerous father (Bruce Dern) thinks he’s struck it rich, and wrangles his son (Will Forte) into taking a road trip to claim the fortune. Shot in black and white across four states, Nebraska tells the stories of family life in the heartland of America.
The movie also stars Stacy Keach, June Squibb, and Bob Odenkirk. It's set to be released on November 15th.

BREAKING BAD Gets a Funny SEINFELD Makeover
Matin Comedy took a great scene from Breaking Bad and turned it into a funny Seinfeld style situation by adding a laugh track. It's amazing what a simple laugh track can do to an uncomfortably intense scene like this. I want to see someone flip this around and actually make Seinfeld a serious, intense show.

The Story of How Jason Statham Almost Died Filming EXPENDABLES 3
Jason Statham had a near death experience while shooting The Expendables 3, and co-star Terry Crews shared the story of how it all when down while talking to Jay Leno. He basically drove off of a cliff into the Black Sea and lived to see another day. This makes me wonder why Warner Bros. didn't cast Statham as Batman, he's basically Batman in real life anyway.

Perhaps top of the list in anime showdowns is Naruto vs. Monkey D Luffy. The only thing I would like to see more than that is the Naruto crew verses the Elric Brothers from Full Metal Alchemist! Kelsey Grammer Cast in THE EXPENDABLES 3
Remember the time Nicolas Cage was supposed to be in The Expendables 3? Well, now it looks like Kelsey Grammer is going to end up in the role, and I have to say he's a much better choice. According to Deadline, the actor will play a character named Bonaparte, "an ex-mercenary who helps the Expendables in their mission."
Grammer is an awesome actor who went from a mild-mannered comedic actor in Frasier to an insane tough guy in the series Boss. That show ended up helping him land the gig as the villain in Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction.
Grammer will join Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, and Wesley Snipes. I have no doubt he's going to be a great fit! Hopefully we get to see him kick a little ass and take out a few bad guys, because that would be amazing.

I'm a big fan of horror survival games, and Bethesda Softworks has released a new trailer forThe Evil Within, which comes from director Shinji Mikami. Here's the description of the game, which sounds and looks like something I'd really enjoy playing.
Shinji Mikami, the father of survival horror, is back to direct The Evil Within -- a game embodying the meaning of pure survival horror. Highly-crafted environments, horrifying anxiety, and an intricate story weave together to create an immersive world that will bring players to the height of tension.

Screen Gems has released a new TV spot for the adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror novel Carrie
As much as I loved the original film, this new movie actually looks like a solid adaptation. It has a really talented cast of actors led by Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moor. If there's one thing to learn from this story, it's that you never want to piss off the shy, quiet girls. The movie comes out on October 18th

Elijah Wood Plays the Piano of Death in the Trailer for GRAND PIANO
In Grand Piano, Elijah Wood plays a pianist who is put in the worst situation a pianist could find himself in. While playing a concert he receives a threat that if he plays one wrong note he will die. You could be the greatest and most talented pianist in the world, but let's face it, if something like that happens they're feeling some intense pressure that they've never felt before.
The first trailer for the film has been released. It's an international trailer and it's not in English. There are no subtitles, but if you watch it you'll get the idea.
It was directed by Eugenio Mira (Agnosia) and also stars John Cusack, and it will be shown at Fantastic Fest in the next week. Here's the synopsis:
Taking a page out of the book of incredible film history feats like HIGH NOON, the bulk of the movie takes place in near-real time over the course of a high stakes classical music concert. It’s here that our hero makes his long-awaited return to performing after being stricken with stage fright at a show five years ago. Lured by the chance to honor his long-time instructor in a program showcasing some of his hardest works, the reluctantly musician accepts the concert, knowing full on that it means tackling the infamous “unplayable piece.” The lights go down and the concert begins with a few warm up selections, but something strange is happening inside the score on the piano. As the pages are turned, text begins to appear, defining a very clear threat – “Play a wrong note and you die.”
The movie opens up in Spain in October, but we'll have to wait for a U.S. release date.

New Trailer for GREAT EXPECTATIONS with Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter
Here's a new trailer for Harry Potter director Mike Newell's big screen adaptation of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. I almost forgot this movie even existed. It stars Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Flemyng, Sally Hawkins, and Robbie Coltrane. It looks like an all-around solid film.
Great Expectations is one of the classic love stories of all time, and touches on all aspects of that thrilling experience. A young boy, lifted from obscure poverty, to be given a glimpse of life as it could be for him. A young girl, taught never to let others into her heart. Together, the possibility of love. Apart, despair.
What young man has never dreamed of discovering that their drab life of work and burden is to be cast aside, in favor of privilege and good fortune. What young person could seize such an opportunity without making enemies as well as friends. What young woman has not turned their face to the sun, and dreamed of its warmth for her heart.
