The team at HISHE has taken aim at Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim and created an animated alternate ending to the movie.

While the scientists are unlocking the keys to the inter-dimensional bridge, Raleigh and Mako rethink the Jaeger defensive strategy after discovering the effects of their classic Kaiju killing weapon.

It's not their best work, but they make some good points. It's still entertaining, so enjoy!

Lionsgate has released a new banner today for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire featuring victors Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). They've also launched a "Victors Banner" reveal campaign for the film, which you can check out at TheHungerGamesExplorer.com. Basically. fans are encouraged to tweet their guess of who will appear next with the hashtag #VictorsRevealed.

The movie begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

We're Getting Some New TERMINATOR Video Games!

While a new Terminator movie trilogy is in the works at Paramount Pictures with Arnold Schwarzenegger, it looks like we're going to get some new video games as well! Reef Entertainment has acquired the rights to make games based on James Cameron‘s 1984 film The Terminator and his 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Here's what the company had to say in a statement,

Here at Reef we are huge fans of (the) 1984 & 1991 sci-fi action master-pieces. It’s an incredible opportunity and an equally huge responsibility to create a game that does great justice to the motion pictures. We are studying all aspects and influences of the Terminator universe defined in ‘Terminator’ and ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day.’ We have started on our journey and are drawing on all the diverse materials available to produce a high quality, authentic and exciting Terminator video game.

Hopefully they end up developing some awesome Terminator games! This is also the developer who is developing a video game based on Sylvester Stallone's Rambo, and I've included the reveal trailer for that below.

Teaser Trailer for MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT

Monsters: Dark Continent is the sequel to Gareth Edwards' impressively well made indie creature feature Monsters. Edwards has moved on to bigger and better things with Godzilla, so this sequel is being directed by first time feature filmmaker Tom Green. Not much is shown in the teaser, but as you'll see it has the same tone as the first film. Here's the synopsis:

Seven years on from the events of Monsters, and the ‘Infected Zones’ have spread worldwide. Humans have been knocked off the top of the food chain, with disparate communities struggling for survival.

American soldiers are being sent abroad to protect US interests from the Monsters, but the war is far from being won.Noah, a haunted soldier with several tours under his belt, is sent on a mission: an American soldier has gone rogue deep in the Infected Zone, and Noah must reach him and take him out. But when Noah's unit and transport are destroyed, he finds himself with only a young and inexperienced cadet for company - the brother of the man Noah has been sent to kill. The two soldiers must go on a life-altering journey through the dark heart of monster territory, accompanied by a young local woman to guide them. By the time the three of them reach their goal, they will have been forced to confront the fear that the true monsters on the planet may not be alien after all.

The movie stars Johnny Harris (Welcome To The Punch)Sam Keeley (What Richard Did), and Joe Dempsie (Game Of Thrones). In an interview with Empire, the director talked about the film's atmosphere and filming location saying,

From my first visit to the location shown here, in Jordan, it was somewhere I felt was key to making Dark Continent work. The moonscape-like environment was the perfect basis for an ‘alien’ landscape. The quarry trucks you see here became ‘buggies’ to transport the remains of firebombed monster herds to be incinerated, with all the leading characters emerging from the dust to witness the scale of the death toll for the first time — and for one character maybe too many times…

The movie will be released sometime in 2014.

HALO 4: Master Chief and Thor Seem to Have A Lot in Common

Halo 4 is regarded as a stellar entry in the superstar franchise, but what could make it better you ask? Well I'll tell you. It's the voice of Marvel's Thor booming out of Master Chief's helmet, and that's exactly what Gugga Leunnam gave us in this cool fan trailer for Thor: The Dark World. Using the cinematics of Halo 4, Leunnam does an excellent job of matching it almost word for word, and the action syncs almost perfectly. Kudos are in order for a job well done, and you can head to his YouTube page to see more of his mashups.

I would have thought that after all of these years Mike Tyson would have at least played Nintendo's original classic Mike Tyson's Punch Out, but apparently he's managed to avoid it all of these years. I loved playing this game when I was a kid, and it's fun seeing Tyson play it. I love that he has to make sound effects while playing the game because I  used to do the same thing! Check it out!

Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Compared to X-FILES

I'm excited to finally be able to watch Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I had a few opportunities to watch the pilot episode over the last couple of months, but I managed to miss all of them, so I'll be tuning in to watch with the rest of you when it premieres for the rest of the world.

In a recent interview with executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, they were asked if the series is going to have big villain arc that plays out or if it will have mini-arcs and standalone episodes. They go on to compare it to The X-Files, saying...

Tancharoen: I don't think we can't be too specific about that but yes, we will have --
Whedon: Recurring elements.
Tancharoen: Yes. There will be threats. How vague can we be? [laughs]
Whedon: Yeah, one of the things that, you know, we've talked about just initially getting into it is, as you start it, you want to tell these self-contained stories. It's a little bit like the "X-Files" model: You can come each week and see [that episode] and not have seen everything, but if you have, it's a richer experience. And as we move forward, those things will start to weave together more and more. But we do want to always have every episode have its own beginning, middle and end, and feel like its own [thing].
Tancharoen: I'd say it's similar to "X-Files."
Whedon: Yeah, we definitely don't want anybody ever to watch an episode and have to have watched all the others. That's definitely a goal of ours. But we think there's a way to do that, [similarly to] the way that they've done it with [Marvel films] where it's just a better experience if you have been keeping track. And also we're pretty sure that we will be asking enough interesting questions that people will want to hear the answers. At least that's our goal.

This is exciting for me to hear because the X-Files is one of my favorite series of all time. The fact that they kind of used that series as a model for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is awesome. I've been hearing great things about the pilot episode, and it doesn't look like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to disappoint.

To read the rest of this lengthy interview on the new superhero series, head on over to The Huffington Post.

Benedict Cumberbatch Drops out of Guillermo del Toro's CRIMSON PEAK

I was excited to see Benedict Cumberbatch join Guillermo del Toro's horror film Crimson Peak! I think he would have been awesome, so it's with a heavy heart that I have to report that he's no longer attached to the project.

The Sherlock and Star Trek star would have starred alongside Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone and Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam. There's no reason given as to why he left the project, but Del Toro is now on the hunt for a replacement. Hopefully he can find a good one! I'm really looking forward to this movie because Del Toro is at the top of his game when he gets to play around in the horror universe.

He has previously talked about the tone of the film, explaining that it's “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story," and that it will allow him "to play with the conventions of the genre [he knows and loves], and at the same time subvert the old rules." He goes into more detail in this statement,

"It’s the turn of the century. So it’s at the turn of the century and half of the movie takes place in America, and the other half takes place in a crumbling mansion in Cumbria. And basically it’s a ghost story and gothic romance, trying to subvert the rules of the usual gothic romance. It’s very much... the first half is a love story, then that love story turns darker. And it’s at the same time a ghost story. I’m working at this moment with Lucinda Clarkson who is a really great playwright from the UK. She has the proper degree of perversity and intelligence to turn it into something interesting to watch. It’s sort of a very compelling version of the classic gothic romance, where you have the spookiness and the windswept landscape that dooms the characters, you know?"

SMITE Partnering with TENCENT to Take the Smiting International

$

MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games) have become so popular, it seems like every game developer has their own, including two of the most well known gaming companies, Valve (Dota 2) and Blizzard (Blizzard All-Stars). Hi-Rez Studios, the creators of Global Agenda and Tribes Ascended, is no exception. Their MOBA, SMITE, which recently went into open beta, had a big announcement at GamesCom. Yesterday Hi-Rez announced with the following trailer that they would be partnering with Tencent, one of China’s largest online juggernauts, to help publish SMITE.

Tencent publishing SMITE is a big deal for many reasons. To fully understand you first have to realize just how huge Tencent is. In the trailer they throw out some numbers about how many users their games have, but Tencent also owns QQ, China’s most popular chat program, and TenPay, which is basically a Chinese PayPal that is so popular that you can use it to pay your bills and pay for mass transit in some cities! So imagine Google, PayPal and a modern MSN messenger combined. Then add on one of the largest online gaming companies in the world. Then place them in the most populated country on the planet. So yeah, Tencent is big.

Tencent’s size will allow SMITE to be anywhere they want it to be in Asia and will give it a credibility that few eSports games have. If Tencent wants SMITE in a certain game tournament, you better believe it will be there, especially in Asia. This surge of support will help it establish itself in the competitive gaming market, which is what it has already been trying to do (as made obvious by SMITE’s built in Twitch.tv support).

How freaking adorable is that?

How freaking adorable is that?

If you don’t believe me, look at the other super popular MOBA, League of Legends. In 2011, Tencent invested $400 million dollars in Riot Games, the developers of League of Legends, and now it is one of the largest eSports games, averaging 12 million players per day. With Tencent now backing LoL and SMITE, I think I know which two MOBAs will have the most representation in eSports in the near future.

It is interesting to have Tencent supporting two, apparently competing games. Both games are MOBAs, sure, but once you actually play them, they are surprisingly different. I have spent time with both games, and even though they are technically the same genre they are unique enough that I don’t think they will have any problems coexisting, especially with Tencent’s gargantuan support. SMITE  is far more action-based, considering almost everything is a "skill-shot" (an ability you have to aim) so it appeals to more of the FPS audience than the RTS group.

SMITE is a lot of fun and is definitely worth checking out, especially the Arena mode. I am excited to see what happens to it as it grows and becomes a mover and shaker in the eSports community, but I worry that it might lose its soul as it grows. It has received enough support to be a successful game, but Hi-Rez, please don’t break the game. I enjoy am enjoying it too much as is.

During Edgar Wright's panel for The World's End at Comic-Con last month, the director showed off a really cool video created by Mike Relm called The Cornetto Megamix, and it features the audio and video from the three films that Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost have worked on together over the years: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End  (collectively dubbed the "Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy"). Wright posted the video on his blog and said that it "might be my favourite re-edit of any of my work."

AREA 51 Movie Update from Jason Blum

A few days ago, the government finally admitted that Area 51 existed, but whatever happened to that Area 51 movie being developed by Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli? The found-footage horror film was first announced in 2009, and I honestly forgot it was even happening until producer Jason Blum gave an update on it in an interview with We Got This Covered, saying,

It exists! We made it! We’re futzing with the movie in post production. Paranormal Activity, remember, it was made about four years before it came out, so Oren likes to tinker, and he’s still tinkering, but hopefully one day we’ll both see the finished version!

There's still no word on when the movie will be released, but it will eventually happen! As far as we know at this point, the story centers on three teens who go snooping around the Area 51 facility.

I've always been fascinated with the history of Area 51, and I hope this turns out to be a decent film that will entertain the masses.

The Title of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 Is....

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. For those of you who don't recall the phrase "Dead men tell no tales" is heard during the Disneyland attraction. Who knows how it will fit into the story that we know nothing about? It's a fitting title for a Pirates film, though.

I will admit that I think I'm more excited for this fifth film in the franchise more than any of the others because of the fact that it's being directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. These are the guys who directed the amazing film Kon-Tiki, which I saw earlier this year, and it made my list of favorite movies of all time. They told such an epic story and on such a low budget that I can only imagine what they will be able to do with a film like Pirates.

The movie was written by Catch Me If You Can scribe Jeff Nathanson, and it's scheduled to begin production in January of 2014, and will be released in theaters on July 15th, 2015.

DISGAEA D2: A BRIGHTER DARKNESS - LeBron's Got Nothing on Prinnies

Weird headline, right? Watch the newest Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness trailer below, and I think you'll see what I mean. Filled with all the off the wall humor that makes this franchise such a cult favorite, this latest entry in the franchise is also seeking to implement some often requested features into the mix. First and foremost, they've introduced expanded customization options available when creating new units, including the ability to choose from a variety of color patterns (important when trying to assemble your own Green Lantern Corp... Your judgment has no effect on me!) as well as picking their personality type and choosing from the myriad of job classes available. Later on you can transfer skills between Master and Pupil, with different benefits for both parties involved.

Being able to use captured monsters as mounts is a nice little extra as well, and subsequently one will have the title of Falkor bestowed upon them at some point during my playthrough. The more that gets released, the more I'm looking forward to stepping back into the underworld with Laharl, Etna, and Flonne, and of course the Prinnies. Before you leave, give some of the new screens a look, as Flonnezilla is something that should be experienced by everyone.

Ron Howard's RUSH - New on Set Featurette

Ron Howard's next film Rush looks so freakin' great! It's set in the 1970s in the wold of Formula One racing, which is a sport I'm not really familiar with, but the setting makes for an awesome-looking film. Chris Hemsworth plays Formula One racer James Hunt and Daniel Brühl plays his rival, Niki Lauda. The movie is based on the true story of these two racers' intense rivalry.

The movie is set to be released on September 27th, and it also stars Olivia Wilde, Alexandra Maria Lara, Stephen Mangan, Christian McKay, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Jamie de Courcey, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Natalie Dormer.

This latest featurette includes Howard talking about the film, and also shows off some really cool racing footage.

Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed—handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. If you make one mistake, you die.

Awkward Geek Confessions: My Top 5 Childhood Cartoon Romances

$

Talking to a friend yesterday about Pokemon, I somewhat regrettably revealed that in my child hood I had a crush on the character Misty from the TV show Pokemon. While he laughed and laughed and laughed, I realized I could actually pull 5 names from geek cartoons that I swooned over in my youth (do guys swoon? Maybe fawned...that sounds worse.). In no particular order, my top 5 childhood cartoon romances:

Misty (Pokemon)

I sense I'm not alone in this one, as Google showed me ample rule 34 all across my results...but maybe it was the tomboy attitude, or the fact that she was an accomplished gym leader at such a young age that revved my 11-year-old engine. There's a lot of water-related innuendo I could make, but this isn't some racy fan fiction involving her. This is.

Harley Quinn (Batman: TAS)

Yeah I know, I picked the one that looks like a jester. Childhood me likely would've gotten that nervous feeling in my gut gazing upon the new Harley, but old school Quinn was cute and non-sexual, I guess. I just remember having a lot of weird dreams where she threw pie in my face and laughed. Does that mean anything?

Faye (Cowboy Bebop)

I hit puberty right around the time Adult Swim took off, and the original lineup had comedy early on, anime at night. It was during a fateful night whilst recording Home Movies (and not knowing how to program it to stop) that I first witnessed Cowboy Bebop . This was the first anime I had seen outside of Toonami, so it was like a, "Whoa, didn't know they could dress like that," kind of deal. Anyway anyone who's seen Faye knows how any young newly adolescent boy could see the allure of her...charms.

Bulma (Dragon Ball Z)

Or Dragon Ball, she looked great in both really. It could've been the blue hair, the over the top anger, or the stone cold leaving of Yamcha for Vegeta. I was into it. Actually now that I think of it, I think I was more into the concept of wanting to be Vegeta (my cousin always picked Goku, so I learned to appreciate him). My attraction also could have stemmed from the fact that I hated Chi-Chi so much...sooooo much.

Cheetara (Thundercats)

She was before my time, but what can I say? I have an appreciation for the vintage women. This is the one I felt the weirdest about posting because I figured it would lead to furry accusations and self-denial and what not, but it's totally not like that guys. I'm just saying if there was a humanoid woman who had the likeness of a cheetah I'd probably be into it. If that's weird, then sword of omens give me hindsight beyond hindsight.

So there you go...my awkward geek confession!

BTW! While incredibly embarrassing, I had a blast recalling one of my stranger geek confessions. If you have a story that you would like to share in a future article, email me at MickJoest@Geektyrant.com. Maybe you fought someone at a convention once for a stupid reason, got arrested for stealing YuGiOh cards, went out drinking with Wil Wheaton...anything interesting, awkward, and geeky is accepted.

HOUDINI Miniseries Gets Greenlight at History Channel

The History Channel has officially greenlit a new miniseries that I can't wait to see! The series is called Houdini, and it obviously centers on the life of the legendary magician and his rise to fame. Adrien Brody (The Pianist) is set to play the title character and Kristen Connolly will play his wife.

The mini will trace the arc of Houdini's life from desperate poverty to worldwide fame. The story "follows the man behind the magic as he finds fame, engages in espionage, battles spiritualists and encounters the greatest names of the era, from U.S. presidents to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Grigori Rasputin. The drama will chronicle the life of a man who can defy death through his stunts, his visions and his mastery of illusion."

I'm a huge fan of magic and the history of it. The History Channel has a great track record for the shows they've been developing likeThe Hatfields & McCoysVikingsThe Men Who Built America, and The Bible . I'm sure this will end up making another incredible series!

Houdini will be a four-hour series, and production will begin this fall!
