BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS - Badass Firefly Trailer!

If you're looking forward to Batman: Arkham Origins, then you're going to love this new trailer released by Warner Bros. Games Montreal. I should warn you though, there's a slight chance that you might wet yourself. There's a ton of new footage from the game loaded into it. I've been a hug fan of these Arkham games, I've played them all, and I'm really excited to play through the new one.

Batman: Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline occurring several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Taking place before the rise of Gotham City's most dangerous villains and assassins, the game showcases a young, raw, unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, witness identities being formed and key relationships being forged.

The game will be released on Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on October 25th, 2013. Now enjoy the awesomeness!

AWESOMENAUTS Launching Kickstarter for Expansion

Ronimo, the indie developer behind Swords and Soldiers and the side-scrolling MOBA Awesomenauts, is launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund their next project, an expansion for Awesomenauts called Starstorm.

The expansion adds new story lore along with three new characters: Ted McPain, a brawler; Sentry X-58, a tank; and Skree, an assassin. There are also a lot of new features slated for this expansion, such as a spectator mode, global chat, more controller support (important since the game is being ported to the PS4), and more music.

Their goal is $125,000, but they have stretch goals all the way out to $630,000. Backer rewards include copies of the game, in-game icons, t-shirts, vinyl soundtracks, and custom skins and voice recording. What do you think of this project? As a fairly established developer, do you think Ronimo should be utilizing Kickstarter this way?  With the success of Swords and Soldiers and the original Awesomenauts game, I think that maybe it's time for them to pursue more standard methods of funding, but what are your thoughts?

Cool Video Shows Creation of Rollie Pollies in PACIFIC RIM

Check out this awesome special effects video showing how they made the little bugs in  Pacific Rim ! This really blew my mind as I assumed most of the bugs were CGI. It's crazy to see the process from start to finish. I would've never guessed it all started with a bunch of shaped plastic and sharpened tongue depressors... Anyway I can't wait to see what kind of special features there will be when this film hits Blu-Ray!

Trailer for THE INEVITABLE DEFEAT OF MISTER AND PETE

0
0

This is the first trailer for one of the films we saw at Sundance this year, called The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete. This was a great film. I know it's not a movie for everyone, but if you like a good solid filmmaking, acting, and story, then you might want to give this one a try.

Separated from their mothers and facing a summer in the Brooklyn projects alone, two boys hide from police and forage for food, with only each other to trust. A story of salvation through friendship and two boys against the world.

Eli had this to say about the film in his review:

It's always a treat to see young actors who can run a whole gamut of emotions. With the help of a stellar supporting cast, newcomers Skylan Brooks (Mister) and Ethan Dizon (Pete) are able to pull off both the comedic and emotional with ease. The chemistry between the two is built so naturally.
The movie will be released in theaters this fall on October 11th.

Movie Secretly Shot at Disneyland Has a Release Date

0

I honestly didn't think that this movie secretly shot at Disneyland and Disneyworld would end up being released. I thought for sure Disney would shut it down, but Producers Distribution Agency has announced that it will be released on October 11th.

The movie is called Escape For Tomorrow. We saw it at Sundance, and it was a crazy whacked out surreal film. It's a must watch, just because it's something you have to experience. I think I enjoyed the film as a whole, but it got incredibly strange and crazy near the end. Here's the synopsis:

Jim White is an average American family man, mostly content to exist within his humdrum reality. At the tail end of a theme park vacation with his loving wife and two beautiful children, he is awakened by an unsettling phone call from his boss, who tells him that he has lost his job. Unwilling to disturb their sabbatical, Jim holds off on breaking the news to his family so they can enjoy their last day at the idyllic and beloved tourist destination. In desperate need of a distraction, he finds one amidst the long lines at the park—two attractive and fun-loving teenage girls. In his fractured state, Jim falls obsessively in love, making any excuse he can to follow them everywhere. Along the way, his paranoid psyche spirals even further downward, and the fine line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred.

This is what Eli had to say about the film in his review

I absolutely loved the satirical humor in the first 2/3 of the movie. There were so many well-written scenes that really feel authentic to what a "not-so-magical" day at the "Happiest Place on Earth" is like. The film's final act is what will polarize audiences. You'll either love or hate the bizarre turn this takes. Even though this "line between fantasy and reality" is set up throughout the movie, it turns into something I personally found hard to enjoy. Not only could I not make heads or tails of the ending, it just stopped being funny and resorted to gross-out humor.

You can also watch our video review here, and an actual clip from the movie below.

New Trailer for Ethan Hawke's Action Thriller GETAWAY

0
0

I really like Ethan Hawke as an actor. The guy seems to involve himself with some great film projects, which is what gives me hope that this new action thriller Getaway will be a decent film. Hawke plays a character named Brent, who is a former racecar driver with a badass Shelby Cobra. His wife is kidnapped, and to get her back he has to do everything that the kidnapper tells him to. It also stars Selena Gomez, Jon Voight, Rebecca Budig, and Bruce Payne.

Getaway is the gritty, heart-pounding action thriller from Warner Bros. Pictures and Dark Castle Entertainment in which former race car driver Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.

The movie will be released on August 30th. Do you think this looks like it will be good?

Elizabeth Olsen Offered Scarlet Witch Role in AVENGERS 2

0
0

It's no secret that Joss Whedon wanted Saoirse Ronan in the role of Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. She was the model used to design the character. Hell, even Ronan herself said she would want to take on the part! But, according to Bleeding Cool Ronan ended up turning down the role when it was offered to her. There's no explanation as to why, but Marvel and Whedon had a second choice in the line-up, and that is Elizabeth Olsen.

This is another great pick. Olsen has proven herself to be an incredibly talented actress and has starred in films such as Silent House, Martha Marcy May Marlene, and Red Lights, and will be seen in Oldboy and Godzilla. It'd be awesome if she ended up playing this character.

The question is will she take it when or even if it's offered to her. This is all just a rumor for now. What do you all think about the possibility of Olsen playing Scarlet Witch?

New TITANFALL Gameplay Demo Nail-Bitingly Intense

0

I am not one to buy into hype. I got absolutely fed up with Ubisoft’s weekly Splinter Cell: Blacklist trailer release, and I dread seeing games get mutilated by AAA, buzzword-filled demos. Show me gameplay, and if it looks interesting I’ll play it. That being said, Titanfall’s new trailer shown at Gamescon 2013 has caught my eye. I missed the intro to the video, so while I was watching it I had assumed it was a pre-rendered cinematic, but later found out it was a video of the Attrition Multiplayer mode. That caught me off-guard.

The action looks incredibly intense, and the pacing made it look like a set-up or pre-rendered trailer, which is very impressive. I am an FPS fan, and have extensive experience with them, and Titanfall seems to be offering me something I haven’t had in a long time.  A unique shooter experience. The ground combat does remind me of a mix between Blacklight: Retribution and Black Ops 2, with a dash of Halo: Reach or Planetside 2 to get the jetpacks.  (Other sites are comparing it to Brink, but I like to pretend that never happened I preordered that game! What a shame). Then, add in the mechs to spice it up even further.

Although the Titan combat and the jetpack maneuverability could be really cool, features like that don’t make a good game, they make an interesting game, but there are plenty of interesting games that aren’t actually fun to play (cough Prey cough). The developers can’t forgo the basics, the controls, the feel, and the fun. While the game looks like a blast, I just pray it is half the game it promises to be.

Intense Trailer for the JFK Assassination Film PARKLAND

0
0

Some of you might be saying to yourself... "Really? Another JFK assassination movie?" Yeah, but Parkland looks really freakin' good! It also tells us the story of what happened from a very different perspective. I'm a huge history buff, so I can't get enough of this stuff.

The movie is based on the book Four Days In November, by renowned author and former prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi. It also has a great cast of actors that includes Paul Giamatti, Marcia Gay Harden, Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver, James Badge Dale, Jackie Earle Haley, Colin Hanks, David Harbour, Ron Livingston, Jeremy Strong, Zac Efron, and Tom Welling

Recounting the chaotic events that occurred in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, Parkland weaves together the perspectives of a handful of ordinary individuals suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances: the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital; Dallas' chief of the Secret Service; an unwitting cameraman who captured what became the most watched and examined film in history; the FBI agents who nearly had the gunman within their grasp; the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald, left to deal with his shattered family; and JFK's security team, witnesses to both the president's death and Vice President Lyndon Johnson's rise to power over a nation whose innocence was forever altered.

The movie is set to be released on September 20th, and I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Clint Eastwood to Replace Spielberg on AMERICAN SNIPER

0
0

Earlier this month it was reported that director Steven Spielberg left Bradley Cooper's film project American Sniper due to budget issues. According to Twitch, Clint Eastwood will be coming in to replace him as the director.

The movie is an adaptation of the autobiography American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History, written by Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. "The book reveals how Texas native Kyle came to record the highest number of sniper kills for an American. The book has been praised for its frankness in telling a first-person account of a warrior who shoots from far and close distances. Giving the book its emotional core are passages from Kyle’s wife, who slowly watches as her husband’s affection turns from her to the SEALs and war."

Eastwood is a fantastic director! The guy makes great films, and he can develop them in a timely manner on a budget. He seems like the perfect director to take on this project. If this news turns out to be true I'll be excited to see what he does with it.

What do you think about the possibility of Eastwood taking on this movie? What is your favorite Eastwood film?

Here's the official book description:

He is the deadliest American sniper ever, called “the devil” by the enemies he hunted and “the legend” by his Navy SEAL brothers . . .
From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle earned legendary status among his fellow SEALs, Marines, and U.S. Army soldiers, whom he protected with deadly accuracy from rooftops and stealth positions. Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle’s masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the great war memoirs of all time.
A native Texan who learned to shoot on childhood hunting trips with his father, Kyle was a champion saddle-bronc rider prior to joining the Navy. After 9/11, he was thrust onto the front lines of the War on Terror, and soon found his calling as a world-class sniper who performed best under fire. He recorded a personal-record 2,100-yard kill shot outside Baghdad; in Fallujah, Kyle braved heavy fire to rescue a group of Marines trapped on a street; in Ramadi, he stared down insurgents with his pistol in close combat. Kyle talks honestly about the pain of war—of twice being shot and experiencing the tragic deaths of two close friends.
American Sniper also honors Kyles fellow warriors, who raised hell on and off the battlefield. And in moving first-person accounts throughout, Kyles wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their marriage and children, as well as on Chris.
Adrenaline-charged and deeply personal, American Sniper is a thrilling eyewitness account of war that only one man could tell.

Hilarious Honest Trailer for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

0

I was wondering when the Screen Junkies would get around to creating an Honest Trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness!

For fans of Star Trek - Star Trek Into Darkness was one of the summer's biggest let downs. We boldly go and revisit the action-packed tale of lens flare, over-recycled Trek cannon, and frozen torpedo body nonsense.

I disagree with them on this one, though. I don't think this movie was one of the biggest let-downs. In fact, it was one of my favorites of the summer. That being said, they still once again did a great and funny job pointing out all of the ridiculousness of the sequel. You'll have a good laugh at this one, enjoy!

Welcome to Hump Day! In the latest episode we go over the gorgeous new trailer for Thief, as well as touch base on all we've been playing lately, including Plants vs Zombies 2, Mass Effect 3 Citadel, Shadowrun Returns, Bad Piggies, Skyrim, and the benefits of games having more story and cinematic difficulty levels. In the Colartibles we celebrate the cool, albeit copyright-infringing, Final Fantasy VII 3D sculpture figures, as well as some Zelda-inspired rings. Finally, it's time for an Aquaman-centered rant in our Just for the Hell of it segment to end the show.

Very Different Look of Steve Carell in FOXCATCHER

0
0

As you can see this is a very different look for Steve Carell as the schizophrenic murderer John du Pont in the upcoming film Foxcatcher. They obviously used prosthetics to give him this unique look. The movie also stars Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller, Vanessa Redgrave, and Anthony Michael Hall.

The movie tells the gripping, true story of Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark Schultz (Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Ruffalo) and their relationship with the eccentric John du Pont (Carell), heir to the du Pont Chemical fortune, that led to murder.

The movie was directed by Bennett Miller (Moneyball) who explains the casting of Carell in this role with EW, saying,

“We just had our first test [screening], and not everybody recognized Steve. He is aged [for the film], and his face is changed, and his physicality changed. If I say I’m going to make a movie about a guy who’s a schizophrenic murderer, there are probably a dozen actors who would immediately appear on anybody’s casting list. And Steve would not be on any of those lists. And that’s a good thing. Because it’s unexpected… John DuPont was a character who nobody thought was capable of doing something as horrible as he did. And I did not want to cast somebody who would feel dangerous in that way.”

The movie will get a limited release on December 20th. What do you think of Carell's look?

More RIDDICK Awesomeness in This International TV Spot

0
0

Universal has released an international TV spot for Riddick, and it's got a few bits of new footage for you to check out. I'm excited about the movie, but I have to admit that it's kind of hard to understand what Vin Diesel is saying! It's like he was trying to make his voice so ultra badass that went beyond all understanding.

The sci-fi action film was directed by David Twohy and stars Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Molla, Karl Urban, Matt Nable, ConradPla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk, Keri Hilson, Bokeem Woodbine, and David Bautista.

The movie hits theaters on September 6th, 2013!

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.
The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Beautifully Shot Sci-Fi Short Film - BEYOND

0
0

We've got another impressive sci-fi short film for you to check out! This one is called "Beyond," it was directed by Raphael Rogers, and it's a beautifully made film. This is one of those shorts I can see a studio eventually picking up and turning into a feature film. Here's the synopsis:

Arya is the last remaining member of her family, a lineage with a unique genetic code that grants the ability to survive the folding of temporal and spatial boundaries... In short, she can teleport. Tasked with exploring new planets, she is in search of something that will explain who exactly she is and where she comes from.

Now enjoy the short!
