Stunning Justice Magazine Art with Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and More

I've been enjoying the cover art that Justice Magazine has been releasing, and here's a collection of seven covers for you to check out featuring the beautiful women of the DC universe such as Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Supergirl, and more.

I'm surprised that Warner Bros. hasn't wanted to make any standalone films based on some of these characters. I would think a Harley Quinn film would do insanely well if done right. Hell! I'd love to see another Catwoman movie! Just one that's actually good. What female DC comics characters would you like to see up on the big screen?

Jeremy Piven Joins Tom Cruise in EDGE OF TOMORROW

0

Even though Tom Cruise's new action sci-fi film Edge of Tomorrow has finished shooting, Jeremy Piven has joined the cast. Director Doug Liman will be shooting some extra scenes for the film. There's no word on who he will be playing in the film, but it seems like it's going to be a small role.

Some footage from the film was screened at Comic-Con earlier this summer, and it looks petty badass. Emily Blunt looks great in it as well! Hopefully they release a trailer soon, so you can see the awesomeness for yourself!

The movie also stars Bill Paxton, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, and Franz Drameh. It's set to hit theaters June 6th, 2014. Here's the synopsis:

The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Lt. Col. Bill Cage is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski. And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

The Government Finally Admits that AREA 51 Exists

0
0

The government has finally realized that people aren't stupid and admitted in a classified document that Area 51 exists as a real government testing site, but not for crashed UFOs and alien autopsies. The government now has other places for that. From ABC News:

Although the report makes no mention of the sensational stories that have played out in pop culture for decades, it turns out that Area 51 was started as a testing site for the government's U-2 spy plane. The report, more than 400 pages, is titled "Central Intelligence Agency and Overhead Reconnaissance: The U-2 and Oxcart Programs, 1954-1974."

The U-2 spy planes were commonly used by the United States during the Cold War in reconnaissance missions around the globe.

Officials and former employees have previously acknowledged in passing the existence of the facility and how it was used for testing U-2 planes, but this is the first time the U.S. government has openly referred to Area 51 and given specifics on its operations. The report also features a map of the area.

It makes no reference to the status of Area 51 after 1974.

Area 51 has kind of lost its edge over the years. There's now a lot more secret government bases out there that are a lot more interesting. So what about all those UFO sightings? The report explains....

The U-2 planes flew at an altitude of 60,000 feet, which was higher than any other plane at the time, according to the documents. When people who lived nearby saw the unfamiliar planes, they became suspicious and believed Earth was being visited by aliens.
"High-altitude testing of the U-2 soon led to an unexpected side effect -- a tremendous increase in reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs)," the report states.
Air Force investigators then attempted to explain such sightings by linking them to natural phenomena, the report says.
"U-2 and later OXCART flights accounted for more than one-half of all UFO reports during the late 1950s and most of the 1960s," according to the documents.

Even if there were UFOs and aliens, it doesn't seem like the government will ever admit it. I guess it's a step in the right direction admitting that a government facility like Area 51 exists. Do you still believe the government is hiding information from us on UFOs?

Tron: Legacy Director in Talks to Direct TWILIGHT ZONE

0

Tron: Legacy and Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski is in talks with Warner Bros. to direct a new big screen version of The Twilight Zone!

Kosinski is a very talented visual and technical director. His films look amazing, but he could use some help on story and writing. The scripts are the weakest aspect of his films.

There are no story or structure details at this time for the film, but the project will be retooled for Kosinski. So if he comes on board the whole thing will be built from scratch even though the studio has gone through a few scripts and directors over the years of trying to get it made.

If Kosinski ends up with the directing gig, it will be awesome to see what he does with it. There's no doubt it will look great! I just hope he surrounds himself with good writers that can deliver a great script because that's the weakest part of his films.

Seth MacFarlane's TED 2 Will Be Released in 2015

2015 is shaping up to be one hell of a great year for movies! Seth MacFarlane recently announced on his twitter that they are looking to get Ted 2 into theaters that year.

Mark Whalberg did an interview with Digital Spy recently, and talked about the sequel, saying that they are looking to start shooting in May of next year. Knowing MacFarlane and his work, I can only imagine it will be even better than the first one.

I loved Ted, and it was a solid success at the box office, pulling in over half a billion dollars worldwide. I imagine the sequel will do even better as the fanbase has grown since it was released on Blu-ray and DVD.

That's...Really Dark, Yale Stewart

WHY, YALE STEWART?! I seriously wanted to cry reading that! You think I want to be reminded of Bruce Wayne's vulnerable and tortured childhood? Before he was the badass he is today? That's dark, but also incredibly deep. As much as this comic pained me, you gotta love Yale Stewart. For those unfamiliar, this is part of a twice a week web comic titled JL8 by artist Yale Stewart. Find all his details here and go send him a like or two.

Bradley Cooper Joins LANCE ARMSTRONG Film - RED BLOODED AMERICAN

0
0

Bradley Cooper has joined Warner Bros' upcoming film project that focuses on 7-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, whose career ended in disgrace when he finally admitted he was doping. The movie is called Red Blooded American

Cooper will be a producer on the film, but is also looking to star in one of two roles. He will either play Armstrong or Tyler Hamilton, "the former Armstrong teammate who was part of Armstrong’s inner circle on the US Postal Service Team and who came forward and told what he saw Armstrong doing in a 60 Minutes segment."

Needless to say, Armstrong was pissed off at Hamilton for breaking the circle of trust. The script for the film will be written by Side Effects scribe Scott Z. Burns.

This is one of three projects based on Armstrong's experiences. Working Title is also working on one that will star Ben Foster as Armstrong. That one comes from Trainspotting scribe John Hodge. Then J.J. Abrams is producing another film at Paramount Pictures, which is based on the book Cycle of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong. Cooper was actually approached by Abrams at one point to star in the film, but it looks like Cooper has other plans.

The rise and fall of Armstrong is such an interesting, dramatic story, which is why everyone wants to get in on the action. It seems like all the studios are trying to fast track their films into production, hopefully they spread out the release dates so we aren't bombarded with a three Lance Armstrong films at once.

Zombified Lori Featured in WALKING DEAD Deleted Scene

In The Walking Dead Season 3, Rick was going a little crazy due to the death of his wife. He was seeing some pretty insane things that weren't really there. Here is a deleted scene from last season featuring Rick seeing Lori as a freakin' zombie! That would have put Rick so over the edge that he might not have ever been able to snap out of the funk he was in! It's a pretty terrifying visual. Click on the image below to watch the scene!

For those who have some extra wall space and are looking for some Assassin's Creed flavored stuff to hang there, well, you're in luck. From the BigBadRobot Etsy shop, we've got some truly cool Ezio and Connor art. While I love both of them, that Ezio one above is just phenomenal from concept to colors. Connor isn't any slouch either though, and if you're a fan of AC III, this is right up your alley. You can take a look at both of these as well as some other movie inspired prints on BigBadRobot's Etsy store.

ARKHAM ORIGINS Collector's Edition Revealed for NA

0

With Batman: Arkham Origins slated for an October release, Warner Bros. has revealed the Collector's Edition that will be available in North America, Australia, and New Zealand, and it's a little different than the UK version announced last week. Like the UK version, this will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game--this is another feature that will be skipping the Wii U.

So let's look at what comes in this Collector's Edition, priced at $119.99. Unlike the UK Edition, this box focuses on the villains of the game, which I think is pretty rad. The key piece of the pack is an awesome statue of Joker at a desk with LED-lit TV screens behind him. Also included are an 80-page art book and a DVD featurette of DC's villains called "Necessary Evil." More villain-centric items include an "Anarky" stencil, Black Mask's contract, a Batman Wanted poster, and dossiers of the game's eight assassins.

As far as in-game items, the Collector's Edition comes with the First Appearance Batman skin, depicting him as he looked in 1939 in his comic debut, as well as a couple Deathstroke skins and challenge maps.

So what do you think? I mean, I'm excited for the game, but do you think that this Collector's Edition will be worth all that extra cash? The statue is pretty cool...

Over the years, we've featured many pieces of movie character art from Jeff Victor. The guy has a great, fun style. I've especially enjoyed his Evolution series in which he takes an actor or pop culture figure and gives them a cartoon style rundown of the characters they've played in films over the year.

I just wanted to let you all know that he's got an art book coming out that he Kickstarted! The book is called Wicked Crispy: The Art of Jeff Victor, and as you might expect, it's packed full of his awesome art! It will feature all of his best work, including some new never before seen stuff!

I've included the Kickstarter video he made below, and a few of the pages from the book that he posted on his site. If you want to donate and help him out there's still time, just click here!

The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki arrests its driver, but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect’s release. Knowing his child’s life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. IRON MAN 3 Deleted Scene - Mandarin Shows Off his Acting Skills

Ben Kingsley shows off his acting skills as the Mandarin in this newly released deleted scene from Iron Man 3. In it, he attempts several different accents. It's a pretty amusing clip that I'm sure most of you will enjoy. I know a lot of people weren't happy with what they did with this character, but I personally thought it was great.

This is one of several things that will be included on the Blu-ray and DVD, which comes out on September 9th! Thanks to Empire for the clip!

This piece of concept art from CGHUB artist J. Stone is easily the coolest thing that I've seen from Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. The image features Kronos, the King of the Titans in all his epic glory. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I really hope they were able to capture this look, and bring it to life in the actual film!

A Rogue's Journey; A Brief Look at Rogue Games

0
0

Rogue was a game like no other. Developed and released in the early '80s I doubt its creators, Michael Toy, Glenn Wichman, and Ken Arnold, suspected that their little project would spawn an entire subgenre of video games. What made Rogue special was its random levels, RPG elements (based on Dungeons and Dragons) and harsh difficulty. When your character died, it was permanently dead. Random levels and perma-death gave the game incredible replayability and sparked many discussions on the best ways to beat the game. These basic tenets, randomization and perma-death, became the foundation for an entire subgenre of video games named after their progenitor. Some of the earliest Rogue-like (or, more often, just “Rogue”) games were basically clones of the original concept, like Nethack (which is my personal favorite Rogue clone), but modern Rogue games come in all shapes and sizes from sci-fi to psychological action. There has been a slew of recent high quality Rogue games, a few of which I want to highlight, namely Faster than Light, The Binding of Isaac, and the recently released Rogue Legacy.

Faster than Light is a sci-fi, ship based Rogue game that was released in late 2012. Instead of picking a class like in Nethack, you pick which ship you want to start with, and that dictates your beginning stats and equipment. After ship creation, you work your way through a randomly generated galaxy populated by randomly generated systems. Within the systems, random events occur that have multiple endings that can play out, usually decided randomly, of course. As you may have guessed, FTL has a lot of random elements, which gives it plenty of replayability. However, the charm of the game is beyond just random chance, it’s in the frantic nature of the game. Your ship is being pursued by an enemy fleet, so if you loiter too long in any system, the enemy will catch you and most likely kill you. If you go too quickly, you can’t spend as much time exploring each system for crew members and gear, so you’ll get in over your head pretty quickly, and the enemies will most likely kill you.

This inevitable death is usually not a gradual decline. Everything seems to be going swimmingly until everything goes wrong at once. In one bad move, suddenly you have three enemies aboard your ship, your life support system is down, and a raging fire is spreading voraciously through your ship. These frenetic moments are what sell the game. All at once, you have to fight off borders, put out fires, heal your crew, and leave someone manning the helm so you can desperately mash the “Jump” button so you can escape. Great fun and a worthy, non-standard Rogue game.

For those of you who have strong mental fortitude, The Binding of Isaac is a great play. With its randomly generated levels and gear progression, it definitely qualifies as a Rogue game, but The Binding of Isaac brings much more to the table than that. It features a dark, psychological story about Isaac’s life and his quest to survive with everyone, even his own Mother, out to kill him. There are other characters to unlock, but the main replayability comes from just how difficult the game is! As you work your way down through the levels until you face Mom, the enemies become more difficult very quickly. Unless you have the skills or the items to keep up, your journey will be short. I must reiterate that this game is not for the faint of heart. Most of the enemies you fight are sobbing children, demons or malformed babies. You use your own tears as a weapon, and horrible things that make your cry more, like dead pets, actually increase your rate of fire. It’s messed up and slightly emotionally scarring, but surprisingly fun for an isometric shooter.

The pinnacle of modern Rogue games is the newest of the three. It is a game about a family of adventurers attempting to conquer a magical castle and bears the title of “Rogue” in its name. This game is Rogue Legacy. Rogue Legacy is self-labeled as a “Rogue Lite” game because not all progress is lost on death.

I love how the system works. Every time you delve into the castle, all of the money you earn will get passed down to your heir, who will have the chance opportunity to spend it on upgrades and new equipment before they head into the castle, earn money, die, and thus the cycle continues. This keeps the game interesting because, even though the castle is randomly generated, you have something to constantly work towards. You can increase all of your stats, buy new classes, and much more. These rewards are fantastic motivation to grab your money and send your heirs into the breach.

The gameplay is satisfying, and it is a solid Metroidvania game in its own right, but the addition of the upgrades, mini-bosses, and story progression makes this game definitely worth playing. And don’t worry about it not being difficult enough, once you beat the game the first time you may begin a "New Game +" where you keep all of your upgrades, but all of the enemies become much more difficult so you can work through the storyline more than once, which is awesome since plowing through monster filled rooms as a Lich King will never get old.

Rogue games have been around almost as long as PC gaming as we know it, and, with these new additions to the genre, it shows no signs of going away. Rogue-like games provide a unique gaming experience where dying and trying again is an integral part of the experience. If you haven’t had an opportunity to experience a Rogue game yet, you could start with some history and pickup Nethack (for free, woo!), or you can pick up one of these newer romps. There are many more games that fit the Rogue game label, but these are a few of my recent favorites. What are your favorite Rogue games?
