Breaking Bad Writer to Take on New Drug Drama 90 CHURCH

Do you know what the world needs right now? Another great drama centered around drugs! And who better to write it than Breaking Bad's George Mastras? He is teaming up with Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders to helm it.

The movie will be an adaptation of the book 90 Church: The True Story Of The Narcotics Squad From Hell. The story is set in the 1950s and 1960s, and it "centers on a young agent’s downward slide into addiction amid shifting loyalties." The title takes its name from the offices of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics at 90 Church Street in New York City where they used undercover tactics to make cases against organized crime.

This sounds like it will make for a great movie! I love this genre, especially when it's set in the past like this one. The project is set up at Universal Pictures, and here's the description from the book.

From 1950 through the late 1960s, America feared two great enemies: Communism and illegal drugs. While the espionage stories have been well publicised, the war against drugs was far more violent and has remained mostly secret. In New York City, the centre of organised crime and drug import, the offices of the newly formed Federal Bureau of Narcotics were based at 90 Church Street. While the FBI refused even to acknowledge organised crime, these agents stood alone against a well-organised Mafia and vicious drug cartels. To survive against impossible odds, the agents used incredibly brutal and cunning tactics to make cases and bring the war to a stalemate. Using an ever-expanding network of criminal informants held together by secret immunity deals, the sinister reputation of 90 Church grew along with the rising body count.
In 1968, alarmed politicians launched an ill-fated investigation into the Bureau’s operations. Accusations were made against the agents, and now fighting a war on two fronts, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics was dissolved and its agents discredited.
Though some names and sequences have been changed to protect identities, 90 Church is the real story of a young agent’s downward slide into hell as he falls victim to addiction, deception, violence, and shifting loyalties.

Christian Bale Confirmed for Moses in EXODUS, Joel Edgerton in Talks

Earlier this year there was a rumor that Christian Bale would play Moses in Ridley Scott's Biblical epic, Exodus. That casting has been confirmed, and it's also being reported that Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty) is in talks to play Ramses in the story.

This is going to be Scott's next film project. The original script for the film was written by  Adam Cooper and Bill CollageSteve Zaillian worked on the rewrite.

As of right now there aren't any official details on the film's story, but if you know the story of Moses, then you have a pretty good idea of what we're going to get.

This is a perfect story for Scott to take on, and it will be great to see Bale and Edgerton star in the film together. Both of them are very talented actors. I wonder if Scott will use the same visual style for this as he did with Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven. I personally hope he tries something new visually.

IRON MAN 3 - Deleted Mandarin Scene and Robert Downey Jr. Gag Reel

Iron Man 3 is set to be released on Blu-ray on September 24th, but you don't have to wait until then to see what is going to be included on the special features. Marvel has released a deleted scene from the film featuring the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) offering some brief comments on the explosion at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. There's also a funny gag reel of Robert Downey Jr.

I know a lot of fans were disappointed with this movie, but I thought it was great. And if you didn't like it, don't worry. Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy all look like they are going to be even better!

David Gordon Green's SUSPIRIA Remake Is Dead

Dario Argento's Suspiria is a fantastically trippy horror film that is a must-watch for any film buff. If you haven't watched this psychedelic horror movie, then you've got to check it out. David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) has been developing a remake of the film, and they even cast Isabelle Fuhrman in the lead role, but it looks like the project is dead now. Green is still very much interested in making a great horror film though. In a recent interview with Esquire, the director discussed the project, saying,

"Someone needs to do something very artful with that project. I'm just excited at the thought of making something elegant, and graphic, and classy at a point in the horror genre where everybody's making films raw, and found-footage. I want something to contrast that, but anybody that's interested in horror movies has no interest in that right now. At least, not with my involvement. But maybe someone else will do it.
I've got the whole movie in my head. It's ready to go, but it just costs too much. My version of it costs too much. It would be very respectful of the original film. It's like the restaging of an opera. It's not there to take away from what exists, but to be inspired by what it is, and make something that is its own unique experience, just like 'Prince Avalanche.' Very unique but very respectful."

Whatever movie he's got floating around in his head, I'd like to see it! He then goes on to give his point of view on remakes, and he doesn't really seem to have a problem with them.

"It's no different than taking a book that people like and making a movie version of it. It's adapting something that exists. Is it the most original thing in the world to do? No. It gives you a framework of inspiration. So if you're excited about it, I'd like to see someone else's version of remaking "Prince Avalanche" [itself a remake of an Icelandic film]. I think it would be amazing to see a Korean version of 'Prince Avalanche' as a serial-killer movie."

Now there's a possibility that he could team up with Compliance director Craig Zobel to make a horror film. Green says that he "just wrote a horror film I was reading, and was thinking of making. It's pretty creepy, and really cool. So we're bouncing ideas around with that, and a few other disturbing things we've been delving into. There are a lot of good movies to make. My problem is I'm only one person. That's why it's great that now a lot of my buddies are kind of getting into it. They're like 'Okay, you go make this one, and I'll make that one.' It's fun to be able to pass the torch and have something I get to watch."

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what comes of all this. I'd just love to see Green make a horror movie!

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST - Sentinel Blueprints

We've already seen a couple really cool photos of what the Sentinels will look like in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past, now check out the blueprints so you can build your own! At least the head of one anyway. The image came with the following caption:

Enjoy this exclusive look at our revolutionary Sentinel technology.

The Sentinels are created by Trask Industries and are used to hunt down mutants. Here's a little information behind the fictional company:

In 1973, Trask Industries introduced the first Sentinel production model, the Mark I. Bolivar Trask’s groundbreaking research in AI, robotics and autonomous ballistic systems laid the foundation for the world's most capable anti-mutant defense system. Since the program's inception, we’ve continued to advance our founder's cause through eight additional generational upgrades and enhancements.
As we celebrate five decades of achievement, we also bid farewell to regular production of the Mark I and shift our efforts to full-time manufacturing of the Mark X — our first complete overhaul of the Sentinel line. These highly anticipated units will combine next-generation nanotechnology and bioweapon breakthroughs, promising an even brighter future for the human race.

The movie stars Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, and Lucas Till.

It comes out on May 23th, 2014.

Vin Diesel Talks about Groot in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

As you know, there have been rumors about Vin Diesel playing Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, rumors that the actor basically started himself! I was actually really hoping he would play Thanos, but it looks like he is actually in the running to take on the role of the giant tree creature. He recently did an interview with The L.A. Times in which he talked about the reason he is looking at taking it saying,

"I’m an actor, [N]ot everything has to be the most obvious choice. And sometimes, the best thing you can do — as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice — is to defy expectations. So if everybody thinks you’re going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it’s interesting. And when something is interesting, it’s inspiring."

Diesel goes on to talk about how Marvel feels about him teasing the character he is looking to play on his social media outlets.

"The last thing they are is mad, I’m pretty open, but I have been secretive about this. I went to Comic-Con and I got blasted while I was on the Hall H panel for 'Riddick.' Someone asked a Marvel question. I couldn’t say anything because of that secrecy."

The movie also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close. It's currently shooting in London and will be released on August 1st, 2014.

Video Montage of People Falling in Film and TV

Thanks to Plot Point Productions, we have a video montage featuring several memorable falling scenes from cinema and TV. The video is called "Gravity: A Falling Montage," and it's set to the song "In The House, In A Heartbeat" by John Murphy, which is from the soundtrack of 28 Days Later. It works perfectly. And by the way, I'm scared to death of heights, and I'm not a big fan of falling when I jump off cliffs. And yes, I have jumped off cliffs into water. Luckily it hasn't resulted in my death.

Huff Post

Three new photos have been released for Spike Lee's Oldboy remake giving us a new look at Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen. It will definitely be interesting to watch someone else's vision of this story, and I hope it at least turns out better than I've heard.

OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

The movie also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Sharlto Copley. It comes out on October 25th, 2013. If you missed the red-band trailer for the movie, click here to watch it now.

KICK-ASS 2 - New Vulgar Hit Girl Clip and Featurette

Ya gotta love Hit Girl's potty mouth. Here's a new featurette and clip from Kick-Ass 2 that centers on all of the things we love about Hit Girl! I can't imagine anyone other than Chloe Moretz playing this character. She's perfect for it. I really hope this sequel does well, because I would already love to see a third one!

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010's irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass' (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world's first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she's forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world's first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there's only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Cool Vintage Style STAR WARS Poster

Illustrator Mark Mchaley  created this amazing vintage style Star Wars poster. Completely captures the style, tone, and feel of the original poster art by Tom Jung, but as you can see this poster is its own very cool design. Here's a note from the artist!

Topps commissioned Me to recreate the Original STAR WARS Poster, immortalized by Tom Jung, into my own vision. Jungs layout and lack of the other main characters made PERFECT sense for the 1st SW movie to ever be released. I remember after seeing it in the theater (I was 7 years old) I wondered why Ben, Han & Chewbacca hadn't made it on the poster.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - Palpatine Returns

$

So Disney and Lucasfilm ended up giving us nothing about Star Wars: Episode VII at their D23 Expo this last weekend, and it left many fans including myself unfulfilled and disappointed. But today we bring you some cool news regarding the highly anticipated film!

There's a rumor been floating around that Emperor Palpatine would be back and that Ian McDiarmid would be returning to play him. That news has now been confirmed by our friends at Latino-Review, who also give us some spoilerish details on how he will return because as you know, he was murdered by Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi

I've been seeing people talking about the character being cloned, but that just didn't really make sense to me. It never even really made sense to me in the comics either. As site points out, why would the clone be an old Emperor?

The whole thing made me think that their was no real truth behind the rumor, which is why I never posted anything about it. Everything has now clicked into place, though!

SPOILER ALERT! Here are the details on Emperor Palpatine's return in Star Wars: Episode VII:

Palpatine comes back as a Force Ghost..like Obi Wan. (Sith Lords learned similar techniques, which in some cases allowed them to physically interact with their environment.)
Palpatine will not be a clone, not in human form.
Now here is a HUGE tidbit…
Palpatine had a new apprentice before he got killed.

It makes perfect sense that Palpatine would return as a ghost! Now the question is will all the Star Wars ghosts fight each other? Because that would be interesting!

They go on to explain that nothing in the script that J.J. Abrams and Michael Arndt are working on comes from any of the Star Wars books or comics. So if that's what you were hoping for, then now you know not to expect it.

Trailer for Woody Allen and John Turturro's FADING GIGOLO

Here's an entertaining trailer for a new film called Fading Gigolo, which stars Woody Allen and John Turturro. Here's where things get interesting... Allen didn't direct the movie, Turturro did, and it's very rare to get Allen to star in someone else's movie. But when you watch this trailer you'll see why Allen took the gig. This looks like a very well-scripted, funny film that audiences could enjoy. It is about a guy whose friend convinces him to become a gigolo for a little extra cash. It actually kind of feels like a Woody Allen movie, and here's the synopsis:

Woody Allen plays as bookseller-turned-pimp to John Turturro's middle-aged neophyte hustler, in actor-writer-director Turturro's inspired left-field comedy. The premise is as inspired as it is absurd, and Turturro carries it off with his own affecting and surprisingly romantic vision of New York City.

The film doesn’t have a U.S. release date yet, but it is set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this September.

Who would have thought that after all these years, an alternate ending for the original 1990 live-action movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would have popped up online?! I have to say I'm not a big fan of it, and I'm glad they didn't use it. At the same time, I love how one of the turtles literally falls off a skyscraper and his friends just laugh. They have no idea he was able to grab onto a ledge! He could be a bloody mess on the sidewalk for all they know! I'm glad they stuck with the ending that they did.
