Thanks to Marvel, you can now watch the Marvel presentation from the D23 Expo that took place last weekend, featuring cast members from Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as well as some Guardians of the Galaxy talk. Unfortunately, they don't show any footage that they screened, but it was still entertaining, so check it out!

New York Comic-Con Releases SUPERMAN and WONDER WOMAN Poster

New York Comic-Con returns in October! We'll be there covering all of the awesomeness they'll bring to the Big Apple. The organizers of the convention, ReedPOP, have released the official poster of the convention, featuring Wonder Woman and Superman. The poster was created by DC artist Stephanie Roux.

It may not be the best poster design of these characters. It's like they wanted to bring realism to the characters and at the same time give it a cartoony feel, but it just doesn't seem to work. Superman's suit especially doesn't fit the style.

Fantastic Magneto Art

Artist Cheeks Galloway created this fantastic illustration of Magneto in his own unique style. I really liked how the design turned out, and this is what the artist had to say in a note,

"Messing around with my color schemes. Going for a vintaged cheeks feel for some new pieces in the works."

Benedict Cumberbatch Is Amazing in This Short Film INSEPARABLE

For those of you who are fans of Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, you have to watch this short film he starred in called "Inseparable." In it he gives one hell of a powerful and intense performance. The movie was directed by Nick White, and here's a brief synopsis:

When young dad, Joe, discovers he's dying, drifter Charlie is given a unique opportunity to turn his life around. A story of family, identity and starting again.

This is a very touching and sad story, but it's a very well-made film. The director did a great job with it, but Cumberbatch was just amazing. Check it out!

Tinkerbell is both effervescent and bratty. In Disney's recent Tinkerbell centered movies, she's more level headed, which is interesting because they are all prequel tales to Peter Pan. Perhaps hanging out with Peter and The Lost Boys brings out her manic pixie side.

Artist Spotlight: Andrea Meloni

We posted a piece of Star Wars art from Andrea Meloni yesterday, which lead me to dig around his amazing portfolio. His work has solid composition and shows great use of light. The character forms are exaggerated enough to be great counterparts to the classic comic book designs, but have a more of a grounded physicality that makes me think that he uses live models. Meloni is from Italy and sells a few of these pieces from his portfolio.

Disney Princesses Meet DOCTOR WHO

It looks like The Doctor is going around collecting the Disney princesses as his companions in this fan art series created by Deviant Art user khallion. I've got to admit, it would be a fun adventure watching Doctor Who go on some epically crazy adventures with this group of Disney gals. I don't know though, there's also a little creepy factor seeing The Doctor sticking his hand out of the TARDIS trying to get them to come in with him.

Two New Images from ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES

0
0

That's right! Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is still coming out this year! I haven't really seen anything since the last trailer was released earlier in the summer, and I almost forgot about it.

Paramount Pictures has released a couple new images for the film, and usually when they release new images or posters it means a new trailer will shortly follow, but we'll see. This looks like it's going to be just as funny as the first movie. This sequel continues the silly and ridiculous adventures of Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell),  Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), and Champ Kind (David Koechner) as they head into the '80s in New York City. Here's the synopsis:

With the 70′s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Ferrell), returns to the news desk in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”  Also back for more are Ron’s co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Carell), man on the street Brian Fantana (Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (Koechner) – All of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy…while taking New York’s first 24-hour news channel by storm.

The movie also stars Kristen Wiig, James Marsden, Dylan Baker, Meagan GoodGreg Kinnear, and Harrison Ford. It comes out in theaters on December 20th, 2013

HALO: INITIATION #1 Review - Worth Signing Up For

0
0

The Halo franchise has mostly focused on the exploits of Master Chief and Cortana, but the most interesting entries in the franchise to me were ODST and REACH, which took the point of views of the Orbital Drop Shock Trooper's and non Chief Spartans, respectively. To me those were far more interesting, as that "nothing can really hurt me and I won't die because I'm the main character" aspect that made Chief (to me at least) unrelatable was gone.

The main character of Initiation is Sarah Palmer, and it's wonderful to see another well fleshed out female character taking center stage in the Halo universe. Brian Reed, a favorite writer of mine from his Ms. Marvel days (before she was Captain and before he was with 343) brings his usual wit to the character, and does a nice balancing act, making her confident and sure of herself while still keeping her relatable. There's also some nice back and forth concerning how the ODST's look at the Spartans, and how they are all at once appreciated and resented.

That's all I'll say on the plot because it's a worthwhile read. I definitely recommend giving it a look when you can. Another plus for the book is the artwork of Marco Castiello, which shines throughout. His action scenes illustrate just how damn good you have to be to qualify as an ODST, and that Spartans aren't the only ones who can hold their own. Congrats on also drawing an amazing Master Chief on pg. 4 too -- not really related, but wow.

I'm eagerly anticipating issue #2, and you can grab issue #1 on comic racks everywhere tomorrow. I'm interested to see what our community thinks about the issue as well, so let us know in the comments!

Intense Trailer For Frank Darabont's New Series MOB CITY

0
0

TNT has released the first intense promo trailer for Frank Darabont's highly anticipated new series Mob City , which was previously called L.A. Noir and Lost Angels. Both of which were better titles than Mob City.

The six-part series takes place in Los Angeles in 1947, and it's based on the real-life accounts of the cops and gangsters of the time. "This is the seductive story of the violent crime underbelly of America's most glamorous city and those who wanted to control it."

The series stars Walking Dead alums Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey DeMunn, as well as Ed Burns, Simon Pegg, Neal McDonough, Jeremy Luke, and more.

I'm of fan of the classic crime noir films, and this series looks really cool! It's set to premiere on December 4th, and here's the synopsis:

Jon Bernthal plays Joe Teague, an ex-Marine now working as an LAPD cop in an era rampant with police corruption. Jeffrey DeMunn plays Detective Hal Morrison, who heads the LAPD’s new mob squad, with Jeremy Strong as Detective Mike Hendry, Morrison’s second in command. Neal McDonough is Capt. William Parker, Teague’s boss who is determined to weed out corruption and bring down Cohen. And Milo Ventimiglia plays Ned Stax, who fought alongside Teague during World War II but who now works as a lawyer with connections to the mob. The project also co-stars Ron Rifkin playing Los Angeles Mayor Fletcher Bowron, who makes it his mission to clean up corruption in city government; Pihla Viitala as Anya, the head bartender at Bunny’s on Central Avenue, the West Coast center of the black jazz scene; and Alexa Davalos as Jasmine, a beautiful woman whose past has come back to haunt her.

New Comic-Con 2013 Cosplay Video - "I Want to be A Superhero"

YouTuber sneakyzebra has created and released a second cosplay music video for San Diego Comic-Con called "I Want to be a Superhero." They said they had so much footage from the convention that they couldn't fit it into one video, so they made this second one especially for YouTube's themed Geek Week. Chris Hardwick even makes a cameo appearance! Check it out, and to watch the first one, click here. Even though I don't personally participate in the world of cosplay, I do love it! A lot of these people are pretty damn talented. Thanks to Nick Acott for sending us the video!

Watch Rare Footage of Stan Lee and Michael Jackson Discussing Purchase of Marvel Comics

0
0

So leave it to Reddit to direct me to an old MTV article from 2009 talking about Michael Jackson's obsession with comic books. The king of pop supposedly had a collection of comics, memorabilia, and costumes that would make any fan salivate, but it wasn't enough. In the late '90s, Jackson approached Marvel comics wishing to buy the lion's share of the company as well as invest in an upcoming Spider-Man film. Stan Lee later added that he believed Jackson wanted a role in the film, but there's no solid confirmation of that. Anyway, the above video is Stan and Michael walking around the office, discussing comics, and discussing the direction the two would like to take Marvel in the future. Something I noticed watching this video...how does Stan Lee never look older?!

2 New Posters for Stallone and Schwarzenegger's ESCAPE PLAN

0
0
Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are back in action and ready to kick some ass in their new prisonbreak action thriller Escape Plan. I think the movie looks like it's going to be a ton of fun, no matter how ridiculous and silly it could end up being. All I am looking for is to be entertained, and hopefully it delivers on that. How can it not? It's two old badasses trying to break out of a high security, technologically advanced prison.

We've got two new posters for the film, which also stars Jim Caviezel, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Amy Ryan. Here's the synopsis:

Ray Breslin (Stallone), the world's foremost authority on structural security, agrees to take on one last job: breaking out of an ultra-secret, high-tech facility called 'The Tomb.' But when he is wrongly imprisoned, he must recruit fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger) to help devise a daring, nearly impossible plan to escape from the most protected and fortified prison ever built.

Escape Plan comes out on October 18th. To watch the trailer again for the film, click here!

Rest in Peace Scarecrow, You Will Be Missed

As I've mentioned in the past, I am a huge Batman fan. Whether it be movies, comics, or TV shows, I love the Bat in all forms of media. The whole reason I ever got involved with Batman is because of Saturday morning cartoons, most notably,  Batman: The Animated Series. I remember waking up to the orchestrated theme, watching the giant "WB" form into a blimp, and seeing Batman punch the blackened outline of two thugs who had just robbed a Gotham City bank. If that doesn't bring up the feeling of nostalgia, I'm not sure what will, folks.

Image Via The Gothamite <http://www.facebook.com/TheGothamite>

Image Via The Gothamite

My personal opinion as to why Batman is the most interesting character in DC, or maybe the comics universe in general, is because of the villains. The villains are the reason for Batman's being; they are the reason he has a job to do. So for Batman: The Animated Series,  Andrea Romano (the casting director, and voice director for BTAS) had to find the perfect match for the voices of each of the Batman rogues. One of Batman's many foes is Jonathan Crane, aka The Scarecrow. The Scarecrow is known for manipulating his victims with a powerful fear toxin, so he can literally scare his victim into following his every command. The voice behind the character in The Animated Series was none other than Henry Polic II. Mr. Polic took this character and redefined him, he actually made the scarecrow frightening with his portrayal having him speak with a deep and gritty British accent. If I could just speak with Mr. Polic, I would tell him that he made my childhood amazing, and I'd thank him for making one of my favorite characters in the Batman universe serious, and no longer a laughing stock of the rouge's gallery.

Unfortunately, I will never get that chance, because last Sunday night, August 11th, 2013, Henry Polic II passed after a long battle with cancer. To me, he was The Scarecrow, but others may know him as The Nottingham Sheriff in the 1975 show When Things Were Rotten. Polic was also Dracula in the 1976 show Monster Squad, as well as Uncle Jerry Silver in the hit '80s classic Webster. I must say, Henry Polic II was an amazing actor, he put forth emotion and determination to make himself stand out. I say it was one hell of a good job, sir. I mean this wholeheartedly when i say this, Mr. Polic, you will be missed!

Plot Details for Neill Blomkamp's CHAPPIE

0
0

Neill Blomkamp's next sci-fi film project, Chappie, is set and ready to go! Sony Pictures and MRC have come on board to co-produce and co-finance the production. With this announcement come some actual plot details for the movie, which will star Sharlto Copley (District 9, Elysium).

According to the press release, the film tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes.

It was also confirmed that the film will also star Ninja and Yolandi Visser of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord.

Before today, all we knew was that the movie would be more of a comedy, and that it was inspired by Blomkamp's short film, Tetra Vaal. The director previously described the script he wrote saying that it's "laugh-out-loud funny but also emotional," then adding, “It’s fairly touching, but, you know, fraught with gunfire.”

I enjoy Blomkamp's style. Elysium is getting hit with a lot of mixed reviews, more bad than good, but I liked it, and thought it was really entertaining. Except for the part where I spilled a large, icy cup of Cherry Coke onto my crotch during the movie.

The Greatest Avengers Game You'll Never Play

0
0

It was a FPS meets fighter with RPG elements that allowed for cooperative online play. In laymen's terms the originally planned Avengers game to follow the movie was to be the Skyrim of superhero games, except you could play with friends. The game was jam packed with Skrulls and had a unique story line separate to that of the film, and was jam packed with Skrull enemies that had absorbed the better half of the Marvel universe.

In addition to the full lineup of the movie cast, it was rumored that Vision and Nick Fury would be playable, and concept art showed that Ms. Marvel would become a Skrull possessed villain. How could it get any better from this point you ask? In addition to battling the Skrull super race it appeared as though the game also had an Ultron showdown in mind! So basically this was gearing up to be the best video game spin off a movie of all time when all of the sudden...

THQ severs ties with the company in development of the game and instead of this awesomeness we got the motion controlled Avengers: Battle For Earth which is "meh" at best. Perhaps maybe as the second Avengers film draws closer this project could be resurrected! One can dream right?
