I couldn't wait to show you this new sci-fi short that was sent to us! It's called "AMP," and it was written and directed by Adam Marisett. This thing is freakin' awesome, fun, and charming. One of the characters in the short is a robot, and the special effects were done extremely well. Here's a short story synopsis:

10 years after leaving a war his father started, Quinn and Amp live in the slums selling illegal custom-tech just to afford the batteries that keep Amp alive. When an old childhood friend tracks him down, Quinn is confronted with the dilemma of choosing to remain idle in a city run by the corrupt Coreley Corporation or finally finish the war he never wanted to be a part of.

The guy that directed this could be going places. Check out the short and let us know what you think of it!

Marvel Has Movies Planned Through 2021

It's no secret that Marvel has been planning their movies years in advance. They've already set release dates for two untitled movies for 2016 and 2017. I'm hoping they announce what these films are at Disney's D23 Expo later this week, but I'm pretty confident that one of them is Doctor Strange

That's just the tip of the iceberg though! Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige says they've got things mapped out even further down the road, all the way through 2021! Here's what he had to say in an interview with Wired,

“I could arguably say what we’re planning for the year 2021. Will that happen? I don’t know. But what we planned for 2015 in 2006 is happening.”

So back in 2006 Marvel knew they would be doing an Avengers sequel and the long-awaited Ant-Man. Feige continued, saying,

"Five years ago, looking at our plan, we knew that if Avengers was going to work, the movies had to stand alone. Now we have to prove to the studio that we’re more than just these five characters, these five franchises.”

Which tells us they are finally going to start expanding the Universe and bringing new characters to life, which is awesome! Other than Doctor Strange and Black Panther, what Marvel characters would you like to see make their big screen debut?

This is the new poster for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's great new film Don Jon, which he wrote, directed, and stars in. The movie also stars Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, and Tony Danza. If you haven't seen the trailer for the movie yet, click here to check it out. The movie is a great mix of comedy, drama, romance, and social satire. You can read our review of the film here, and watch our video review here

Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old-fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Don Jon opens in theaters on October 18th, 2013.

Charlie Day Originally Planned as Villain for PACIFIC RIM 2

Warning: This post contains spoilers!

As Pacific Rim continues to be a smash hit internationally, speculation continues among fans as to what the sequels may hold, or if they are even happening. In a recent interview with Crave OnlineCharlie Day said there were on-set discussions of the possibility of his character actually playing the villain in the next film, although he's not sure if that's still the plan. Here's his direct quote....

“I remember when I first met with him that he liked the idea of Newt becoming a bit of a villain in the second film...But, I think over the course of making the film, and the way the character resonated with the audience, I don’t think he would want to turn him into a villain now, but I really have no idea.”

I have to admit that when I was watching the film I thought Newt (Day's character) was going to become the villain! The whole Kaiju brain-linking made me think that he could serve as a potential gateway, or perhaps be able to control a Kaiju much like the characters control the Jaegers. I really hope to see a sequel to this film eventually. Corny as it was, it's ranked as my second favorite film of the summer and a breath of fresh air from the nonstop sequels we've been subjected to in the geek world here lately. I know I'm not alone in this!

If you're a fan Tom Hanks and/or director Paul Greengrass, then I'm sure you're looking forward to seeing Captain Phillips. It looks like a solidly intense film, and this new trailer gives us a better sense of the tone of the film and where the story will take us.

The movie tells the true story of the Somali pirate hijacking of the MV Maersk Alabama in 2009. This was the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.

It looks like Hanks gives yet another Oscar caliber performance. This seems like the kind of movie that will end up getting several award nominations. The movie comes out on October 11th, now check out the trailer!

Imagining superheroes in the days of Bushido? It's been done before, but these re-imagined costumes are pretty awesome nonetheless. I'm not quite sure what the message is here with Batman playing Nintendo, Wonder Woman drawing Astro Boy, and Supes reading a Hello Kitty magazine, but whatever it is, I accept. Two New Promos for Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

It's hard not to be excited about Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.! Especially with Joss Whedon at the helm. I've liked everything I've seen from the series, and I think it's going to bring the awesome! The pilot episode was screened at Comic-Con, and it seems like most of the people that saw it liked it. ABC might just have another big hit on their hands!

Check out the two new promo videos released by Marvel below. The series hits ABC on September 24th!

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.
From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers, ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series.  “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

Meryl Streep and Alexander Skarsgard to Join THE GIVER

Jeff Bridges' big screen adaptation of The Giver is in full casting mode. According to The Wrap, Meryl Streep has been cast in the film, and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) and Cameron Monaghan (Shameless) are in negotiations to join the project as well.

The film is based on the wonderfully fantastic book written by Lois Lowry, and the story is set in a "colorless dystopian society that enforces Sameness and fears freedom. All memory of human history has been erased, emotion does not exist, and citizens' professions are chosen for them."

Brenton Thwaites was previously cast as Jonas, the "community's Receiver of Memories who spends his days being mentored by the Giver (Bridges), who teaches him to confront and understand the lies that inform society. As Jonas comes to grips with living an unsheltered existence, he begins to acquire a taste for freedom and honesty, becoming an outcast in the process."

Streep is playing the community's Chief Elder, who maintains order in the seemingly utopian society. Skarsgard would play Jonas' father, and Monaghan will play Jonas' best friend, Asher.

This was such a great book, with a powerful story and message. Hopefully, director Philip Noyce will give it the great adaptation it deserves.

New Trailer for PARANOIA with Ford, Oldman, and Hemsworth

As much I like Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman, this new thriller Paranoia doesn't look like the most appealing movie. I still don't understand why they thought Liam Hemsworth would be able to carry a movie starring alongside these two acting legends. The movie looks very mediocre, and not worth the majority of talent that is involved with the movie, which also includes Richard Dreyfuss.

The movie was directed by Robert Luketic (21), and here's what it's about...

The high stakes thriller Paranoia takes us deep behind the scenes of global success to a deadly world of greed and deception.  The two most powerful tech billionaires in the world (Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman) are bitter rivals with a complicated past who will stop at nothing to destroy each other.  A young superstar (Liam Hemsworth), seduced by unlimited wealth and power falls between them, and becomes trapped in the middle of the twists and turns of their life-and-death game of corporate espionage.  By the time he realizes his life is in danger, he is in far too deep and knows far too much for them to let him walk away.
The movie comes out on August 16th, watch the new trailer!

I'm not sure how I missed this episode of Super Power Beat Down earlier in the year, but in case you missed it as well, you can watch Superman and Thor in an epic brawl to the death! It's not the best acting or dialogue, but it's still really fun fight to watch, so enjoy!

What If Jeffrey Dean Morgan Plays Batman in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

The casting rumors for Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman, in the Man of Steel sequel, Batman Vs`. Superman, are rampant! The script isn't even done yet, but there are already a ton of names being thrown around. One of the more popular ones is Josh Brolin, who I still think is the best possible choice I've heard.

The other rumored actors include Ryan Gosling, True Blood's 36-year-old Joe ManganielloRichard Armitage (Thorin in The Hobbit), 43-year-old Max Martini (Castle, Revenge), and 35-year-old Matthew Goode (Watchmen, Stoker).

Now the website Think McFly Think has thrown a name into the hat, and that is Watchmen star Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The site simply states that the "actor is taking a meeting with Zach Snyder for the role of Batman." There's no confirmation of this, but it makes sense, given that director Zack Snyder has already worked with him, and he seems like he'd make a decent gritty older Batman. He is 47-years-old which would make him the oldest contender for the role.

What would you think of Morgan taking on the icon superhero role?

Trailer for George Clooney's WWII Film THE MONUMENTS MEN

Here's the first trailer for George Clooney's World War II drama The Monuments Men, which stars Matt Damon, John Goodman,  Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, and a few more people whose names you probably wouldn't recognize. This looks like a great movie that has drama, humor, and a little action.

The movie is based on the novel by Robert Edsel, and it follows art historians who landed at Normandy to rescue several pieces of art and landmarks from being destroyed. When talking to USA Today Clooney talked about how this film project came about saying,

“Grant [Heslov] and I were looking to do a film that was less cynical than a lot of the films we do. Grant had read the book at the airport. He gave it to me. We went into Sony and pitched it and got greenlit right there. The story was just so compelling.”

There's also great documentary on the events that this movie is based on called Rape of Europa, and you can watch it on Netflix Instant. Here's the synopsis for the film:

Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action-thriller focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.

The Monuments Men opens on December 18th, 2013.

Will Bryan Cranston Play Lex Luthor in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN?

None of us should be surprised that Warner Bros. has a list of actors that they are hoping to get for Zack Snyder's Batman Vs. Superman movie. We've already seen a ton of actors that could end up playing Batman, including Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.  But what about the villain of the story?

Well, according to El Mayimbe from Latino-Review, one of the actors that the studio wants to play Lex Luthor is none other than Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, which you have to admit would be freakin' awesome! Cranston would kill it in this role!

Nothing is set in stone yet, but this could give fans something to hope and root for. Now that the possibility is out there, I want to see it happen! Here's the series of tweets that El Mayimbe sent out...

What do you think about the possibility of Cranston taking on the role of iconic villain Lex Luthor?
