Sarah Michelle Gellar on Returning to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

$

Even though I'm a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I've accepted the fact that we'll never see Joss Whedon bring the gang back together for a Buffy movie. I think there's more of a chance we'll see another Firefly/Serenity movie before we see anything with Buffy.

During a recent interview Sarah Michelle Gellar was asked if she would return to reprise her role if it happened, and she surprisingly said she'd be up for it under the right circumstances!

“Joss [Whedon] and I always talk about [a movie]. But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn’t work as a film. And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time. If there was ever the right story, we would do it. At this point, the stake would be my walker and I would be hobbling in."

Even though she'd be up for it, it doesn't should like she thinks it's going to happen either. Even though this will never happen, it's still interesting to hear that she would be interested in reprising her role.

Would you like to see Whedon and Gellar reteam for a Buffy movie?

ABC and Marvel has released a ton of new photos for Joss Whedon's Avengers spin-off TV series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The photos also include a Firefly cameo! One of our writers, Emily, had a chance to catch the pilot episode at Comic-Con last month, and she liked it. I think the show looks like it's going to be really cool, and I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television and will premiere on Tuesday, September 24th at 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time on ABC Network.

The series will premiere on ABC on Tuesday, September 24th at 8 pm.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition is set to be released this November, but you don't have until then to watch one of the several deleted scenes included in the cut. Here's one you can watch now that features Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and Elrond (Hugo Weaving) having a little conversation about hobbits. This was such a good movie, and I can't wait to see the next two installments!

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

EA Games gave a little tease of Star Wars: Battlefront at E3 earlier this year, and as expected, it looked really cool! Now it looks like the game will be released in the summer of 2015 right alongside J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. The news comes from EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, who said,

"We have partnered with Walt Disney and Lucasfilm to develop a whole new generation of Star Wars games for the console as well as for mobile and handheld devices. The first game that we're focused on is Battlefront. It's a traditional game that's done extremely well and this will most likely come out around the same time as the Star Wars movies start to come out, probably in the summer of '15."

It's safe to speculate that Star Wars: Episode VII will be released in May, as that is the tradition release month of the the Star Wars films. I've included the teaser trailer for Battlefront below!

Hilarious New Red-Band Trailer for WE'RE THE MILLERS

Warner Bros. has released another red-band trailer for their hilarious-looking R-rated comedy, We're The Millers. The trailer includes a lot of great new footage that I think you'll enjoy.

The movie stars Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston. The story follows a group of people who come together as a pretend family to smuggle drugs. The movie was directed by  Rawson Marshall Thurber, and it also stars Emma Roberts, Nick Offerman, Kathryn Hahn, Will Poulter, and Ed Helms

We're the Millers hits theaters on August 7th!

David Burke (Sudeikis) is a small-time pot dealer whose clientele includes chefs and soccer moms, but no kids—after all, he has his scruples. So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his supplier, Brad (Ed Helms). In order to wipe the slate clean—and maintain a clean bill of health—David must now become a big-time drug smuggler by bringing Brad's latest shipment in from Mexico. Twisting the arms of his neighbors, cynical stripper Rose (Aniston) and wannabe customer Kenny (Will Poulter), and the tatted-and-pierced streetwise teen Casey (Emma Roberts), he devises a foolproof plan. One fake wife, two pretend kids and a huge, shiny RV later, the "Millers" are headed south of the border for a Fourth of July weekend that is sure to end with a bang.

Insanely Cool Short Sci-Fi Short Film - BIOMORPH

This "Biomorph" film may be extremely short, but it's insanely awesome! The film was directed by Henrik Bjerregard Clausen and a team of 12 students from the 3D College of Denmark. The short teaser serves as a marketing tool for the school, and shows what the student are capable of doing. Here's a note from the director on what inspired him:

"I've always felt inspired by the cinematic teasers produced for game titles such as Blizzard's StarCraft and World of Warcraft franchises. They combine stellar cinematography with a suspenseful introduction to the vast universe they play a part of - and all end on a high note enticing you to continue the experience within the game.
Being mindful of our constrains, I wrote a pitch largely focused on a static environment with attention to detail and atmosphere instead of animation - using the camera to unfold the story and setting, shot by shot, slowly building up anticipation of the final reveal..."

Enjoy the short!

Samuel L. Jackson to Play Villain in THE SECRET SERVICE

Samuel L. Jackson has joined Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, and Michael Caine in director Matthew Vaughn's next film project The Secret Service. Jackson will be playing the villain in the story.

Before Jackson came along Vaughn was trying to get Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio  in the villain role, but things didn't seem to pan out that way.

Vaughn co-wrote the script with Jane Goldman and it will be an adaptation of the Mark Millar and David Gibbons graphic novel. The Secret Service has been described as Vaughn and Millar's version of Marvel's  S.H.I.E.L.D. The story follows a James Bond-type super spy named Uncle Jack who works for MI6. He ends up taking his slacker nephew Gary under his wing, and mentors him in tradecraft in the hopes that Gary can change and become an MI6 agent.

Jackson is awesome in everything he does, and it will be great to see him play a villain again! He's always made a solid villain. What's your favorite Jackson villain role?

Warner Bros. has released this new motion poster for 300: Rise of an Empire, featuring a wave of blood. We got to see some more footage from this movie at Comic-Con earlier this month, and it looks pretty freakin' cool. I enjoyed the first movie, and this sequel looks like it's going to be bigger and better.

Noam Murro is directing the film from a screenplay written by Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad. It's based on the graphic novel Xerxes by Frank Miller.

It's set to be released on August 2nd, 2013, and here's the synopsis:

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

300: Rise of an Empire pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present, a Cruel and Unusual Films/Mark Canton/Gianni Nunnari Production, “300: Rise of an Empire.” The action adventure stars Sullivan Stapleton (Gangster Squad) as Themistokles and Eva Green (Dark Shadows, Casino Royale) as Artemisia. Lena Headey reprises her starring role from 300 as the Spartan Queen, Gorgo; Hans Matheson (Clash of the Titans) stars as Aeskylos; David Wenham returns as Dilios, and Rodrigo Santoro stars again as the Persian King, Xerxes.

HERO Director to Take on Josh Brolin's QUASIMODO

Hero director Zhang Yimou is in talks to direct Josh Brolin's big screen adaptation of Victor Hugo'sThe Hunchback of Notre Dame called Quasimodo

The film production is set up at Warner Bros. Brolin will star in the film, which follows a gypsy girl who is framed for murder, and only the deformed bellringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, Quasimodo, can save her. I'm not sure who Brolin is playing, but I love this story, and I think it has potential to be a great new adaptation.

Zhang has an awesome visual style and is mostly known for his epic fight choreography in films like House of Flying Daggers. Zhang most recently directed Christian Bale in Flowers of War.

Check out this trailer for Robert Redford's intense looking new film All is Lost. Redford in the only actor in the movie, and the story follows his character sailing alone in the Indian Ocean. His boat is damaged, and he's forced into a situation where he has to struggle against the elements to stay alive.

There's no release date set yet, but Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are supposed to release it sometime later this year. The movie looks great, and I want to see it. Watch the trailer, and let us know if it looks like something you'd want to watch.

Live-Action AKIRA Movie Is Back in Action!

Back in January of 2012, Warner Bros. put their live-action adaptation of Akira on hold to work out some script issues to make it fit the $90 million budget.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Orphan) was attached to direct it but ended up leaving to direct a film with Liam Neeson called Non Stop. Now it looks like he's coming back on board and is in negotiations with the studio.

They have been meeting with other directors, but apparently the studio still likes Collet-Serra's vision the best. According to Variety, "sources say the director found time in his schedule as well as a new way to approach the adaptation that would meet the studio’s budget request. "

The director is currently in pre-production on another movie called Run All Night with Neeson, Joel Kinnaman, and Ed Harris. He would work on Akira when he's done with that in spring of 2014.

The movie is set in New Manhattan, and the cyberpunk sci-fi story follows the leader of a biker gang who must save his friend, discovered with potentially destructive psychokinetic abilities, from government medical experiments.

I love the original anime film, but I have a bad feeling that the studio is going to screw this one up. I hope I'm wrong.

Here's a more detailed description of the movie that was previously released:

Desperate to get his brother back, Kaneda agrees to join with Ky Reed and her underground movement who are intent on revealing to the world what truly happened to New York City thirty years ago when it was destroyed. Kaneda believes their theories to be ludicrous but after finding his brother again, is shocked when he displays telekinetic powers.
Ky believes Tetsuo is headed to release a young boy, Akira, who has taken control of Tetsuo’s mind. Kaneda clashes with The Colonel’s troops on his way to stop Tetsuo from releasing Akira but arrives too late. Akira soon emerges from his prison courtesy of Tetsuo as Kaneda races in to save his brother before Akira once again destroys Manhattan island, as he did thirty years ago.

"Machete don't tweet."

Director Robert Rodriguez has released a new trailer for Machete Kills, and this one is a lot better and more entertaining than the first one. It features all new footage, including a first real look at Mel Gibson and several of the other actors in action. The grindhouse style film looks absurdly entertaining.

Danny Trejo leads the ensemble cast that also includes Lady Gaga, Cuba Gooding Jr., Sofia Vergara, Vanessa Hudgens, Amber Heard, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana, Edward James Olmos, William Sadler, Mark Zaror, Demián Bichir, and  Charlie Sheen a.k.a. Carlos Estevez

In MACHETE KILLS, Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.

The movie comes out on September 13th, 2013. Enjoy the latest trailer!

The Tomb Raider video game reboot from Square Enix ended up being a great game. It may not have turned out impressive numbers as it only sold 4 million units, but for those of you hoping for a sequel, you're in luck! Square Enix CEO Phil Rogers has officially announced that it's happening:

"I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently!"

Speculation about a sequel to the game started at San Diego Comic-Con when writer Gail Simone was brought on to write an ongoing comic book series that will bridge the gap between the 2013 game and its sequel.

I'm always game for more Tomb Raider, so color me excited!

It's no secret that Guillermo del Toro is fascinated with the supernatural world. There's a reason for that. The director has had his own personal experiences with it. One of his first films, The Devil's Backbone, was actually inspired by a ghostly encounter that haunts him to this day.

Thanks to Criterion we have this video of Del Toro sharing his childhood experience of encountering the ghost, and how it's connected to the boy phantom in The Devil’s Backbone.
