0

Universal has released a new TV spot with new footage for Jeff Wadlow's awesome looking movie, Kick-Ass 2. We also have another Justice Forever recruitment video, featuring Kick-Ass giving an inspirational speech to try to get other heroes to join their team. The movie will be released on August 16th, 2013!

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.
When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.
Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

James Cameron Hires Screenwriter for AVATAR 2

0
0

James Cameron is prepping for production on his Avatar sequels and has hired screenwriter Josh Friedman to help work on the screenplay for Avatar 2. The writer has worked on projects such as Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds and Fox's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Cameron himself has been working on the script for a long time, so I'm sure Friedman is coming in to look it over and polish it up.

We still don't know very much about the film, other than that a lot of it will take us deep into the oceans of Pandora. The movie was supposed to be released in 2014, but at this rate, it doesn't look like we'll see it until 2015 with the rest of the huge highly anticipated films coming out like Star Wars: Episode VII and The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Red Sonja #1 Review: Ready for Battle, Even with a Hangover

Writer: Gail Simone

Artist: Walter Geovani

Colors: Adriano Lucas

Dynamite Entertainment recently made a huge splash in the comic space, announcing that acclaimed writer Gail Simone (of Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman, and Welcome to Tranquility fame) would be taking over their Red Sonja book. For those who don’t know much about the character, she originated back in 1934, but the version everyone is more familiar with was brought to life in 1973. She was designed to be a fellow mercenary in the Conan series of books, but quickly gained enough popularity to have had multiple series in her own name over the years.

So, what’s different this time around you ask? For starters, the book has Simone’s trademark sarcastic wit, as finding humor in terrible scenarios tends to be a staple of her characters. Sonja is no different in this. Simone is also known for developing great supporting cast members, and King Dimath, his son (subject of one of the best snarky lines ever on page 3), and her two well-meaning (but less skilled) bodyguards are a unique group that will hopefully grow over time. The book truly reminds me of Xena, and I say that in a completely non-ironic way (And it's a compliment to boot. I know, stick with me here). That show at its best was fun fantasy storytelling mixed with humor and some very likeable characters, all surrounding a rough around the edges but likeable warrior. Granted, at its worst it was none of those things, but I enjoyed the show for what it was, and issue 1 brought that same feeling back in spades.

As for the art, Walter Geovani is a perfect fit in tone and in style. His page layouts are interesting without being convoluted, and he’s able to put a great deal of action and dialogue into a small amount of space.

I’ve never been a Red Sonja fan, but if this is what I can expect from the series I think I might be staying around a while longer.

Fan-Made RESIDENT EVIL Short Film - VENGEANCE

Here's a pretty cool action-packed fan-made Resident Evil short film called "Resident Evil: Vengeance." The movie was directed by Will Newman, and the story takes place years after the original T-Virus outbreak and the events at the mansion. "Chris Redfield finds himself battle weary and alone, unable to trust even his closest friend."

The short includes a fun fight sequence between man and zombies. Enjoy the show!

EVIL DEAD Director to Develop Original Sci-Fi Film MACHINA

Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez is set to develop an original sci-fi action project called Machina. Unfortunately, there are no details on the project yet. Alvarez will also co-write the film with his partner Rodo Sayagues

I love what Alvarez did with the Evil Dead remake, and I'm curious to see what he's planning for this new film. I just hope he eventually gets to make his Evil Dead sequel!

Sinister Director to Take on POSTMORTAL

Sinister director Scott Derrickson has put another film project on his plate called The Postmortal. It's based on a book written by Drew Magary. The story follows a man who decides to go though a treatment known as "the Cure," which protects him from natural aging, but he can still get sick and die, or be mortally wounded. This seems like a really interesting concept that would make for a fun movie. Here's the description of the book:

John Farrell is about to get "The Cure."
Old age can never kill him now.
The only problem is, everything else still can . . .
Imagine a near future where a cure for aging is discovered and-after much political and moral debate-made available to people worldwide. Immortality, however, comes with its own unique problems-including evil green people, government euthanasia programs, a disturbing new religious cult, and other horrors. Witty, eerie, and full of humanity, The Postmortal is an unforgettable thriller that envisions a pre-apocalyptic world so real that it is completely terrifying.

I think Derrickson is a talented director. I like most of the films he's worked on, and he's currently working on the demonic cop thriller Beware The Night.

I've enjoyed all of the movies about Ip Man that have been made over the years, and now we have two new trailers for the latest movie called Ip Man: The Final Fight. The martial arts drama features Anthony Wong as an older Ip Man, and it takes place in the years after he has trained Bruce Lee. The movie looks awesome, and I wish I knew how fight like this! Wong looks like he kicks some major ass! Here's the synopsis:

In postwar Hong Kong, legendary Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man (Anthony Wong) is reluctantly called into action once more, when what begin as simple challenges from rival kung fu styles soon draw him into the dark and dangerous underworld of the Triads.

Ip Man: The Final Fight hits VOD on August 20th and in theaters on September 20th.

I know you all like to feast your eyes on pure awesomeness, so check out this incredibly badass 12-foot Mech sculpture made entirely out of a broken down Nissan truck and a ton of scrap metal. Apparently it only took the guy a month to build, which is pretty impressive. It would take me about 6 months to build some kind of Star Wars LEGO play set. Check this thing out!

The Conjuring isn't just one of the best horror movies I've seen in a long time, it's also one of the best movies of the year. I loved everything about this movie, and if you haven't seen it yet, you need to. It's such a damn good movie. I love a good ghost story, and this is one of the best I've seen.

If you have seen the film then you'll appreciate this creepy concept art for the film featuring alternate designs for the Annabelle Doll and the ghosts featured in the story. At the very bottom of the article I included a video that tells the true story of the Annabelle Doll.

Bryan Singer on the Timeline of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

0
0

X-Men: Days of Future Past looks freakin' incredible! Director Bryan Singer showed off a good chunk of footage from the movie at Comic-Con, and the audience went crazy for it. You can read a description of the footage here. While talking to Empire Magazine, Singer discussed the film, the placement of it in the movie franchise, and the timeline.

"It takes place about ten years, give or take, after X-Men 3; and in the past it takes place about ten years after First Class.”

He goes on to explain that the movie is not a sequel.

"It’s its own story, inspired by Days Of Future Past. I’d say it’s not a sequel to one of the others. It’s an inbetwequel — that’s what I call it, for lack of a better word."

Singer also talks about the scope of the story saying,

“They’re in a radically different place. Charles is in a very dark hole when we meet him, and Erik has been gathering his power.”
“It takes place in the future and the past and then all over the world, from Russia to China, then France, and Washington, New York. It’s got scope, but most of the scope is in the breadth of the story.”

The film will be released in theater on May 23rd, 2014, and I can't wait!

Giant Mech Robot Befriends Little Girl at Comic-Con

How in the hell did I miss this amazingly awesome giant Mech robot at Comic-Con?! I would have loved to see this thing up close and in person! A little girl by the name of Zoe got the opportunity to befriend the robot, and it turned out to be incredibly cute. The Mech costume was created for Wired by Stan Winston School and Legacy Effects.

[The Stan Winston School and Legacy Effects] came up with an aluminum and urethane behemoth, and invented an innovative control mechanism to let the robot arms replicate even the smallest movements of the pilot’s. Except, you know, with a 12-foot wingspan.

I also included the reveal video.

3 AVATAR Movies Officially Announced - Starting in 2016

0

20th Century Fox has officially announced that there will be three more Avatar films coming from James Cameron! They also say that the first sequel is set to hit theaters in December of 2016, with the second to be released in December on 2017, and the third is coming a year after that.

Cameron has come up with the stories for the film, and I'm sure he has written the scripts for the films, but he's also hired several screenwriters to help develop them. All of the new movies will be filmed simultaneously and start production in the beginning of next year.

Six years will have passed since the first Avatar was released, and I'm really curious to see how these sequels do at the box office. Do you think they will break the record of the first film, which currently sits at $2,782,275,172?

There's no doubt that Cameron has raised the bar, and from what we've heard there's going to be a very noticeable different in the effects, so that's going to be awesome to see.

SCARFACE Remake to be Directed by David Yates

Art by Ylli Haruni

Art by Ylli Haruni

Yes, Scarface is set to be remade again, and Harry Potter director David Yates is in final negotiations to helm it for Universal Pictures. This will be the third Scarface film. The first one was released in 1932, which focused on Chicago bootlegging, the second one is the one most of you know, though. That's the 1983 version that starred Al Pacino and focused on Miami cocaine-dealing.

According to Deadline, Universal has gone through a few different writers and scripts, and they say that “Universal has been through a couple of drafts and now is very high on the current draft. The first stop is the director. This is before any conversations on talent or timing.”  It looks like Yates is going to be that director.

The site goes on to say that this movie "is not a remake or sequel but a reboot of a crime kingpin who through a ruthless campaign of ambition goes in hot pursuit of his American Dream – whatever that is in this decade."

Yates is an extremely talented guy, and this is a very different movie project for him. It will be interesting to see how this reboot turns out, and what the drug of choice will be this time around.

Do you think this remake will live up to the previous Scarface films?

Awesome VENOM Short Film - TRUTH IN JOURNALISM

True Blood's Ryan Kwanten stars as Eddie Brock in this awesome short film called "Truth in Journalism."  I love how the the story is told, and the addition of the Marvel universe is really cool. The short was directed by Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Knights of Badassdom), and this is the information from the YouTube page:

"The great part of my job is that I get to be an 'administrator of truth.' Crime occurs every 13 seconds in this city. You know we have these statistics? Because guys like me are out on the streets, collecting these stories. We put the caution in cautionary tale, y'know? And being aware the crime out there, the people of this city can live their lives accordingly. In fact, I'm the one doing this city a public service. We're the heroes out there...." -Eddie Brock

The short was inspired by a 1992 French film film called Man Bites Dog, and I included the trailer for that film below as well so you can compare.

I'd love to see a series of these shorts made. I thought this one was really entertaining.
