AMERICAN HUSTLE Trailer with Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper

This is the first trailer for American Hustle, which comes from  Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell.  The movie stars Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale, who virtually look unrecognizable in the movieThe movie also stars Amy AdamsJennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and Jeremy Renner. Russell is an incredibly talented filmmaker and storyteller, and this new movie of his looks fantastic. I love Russell's style, his films have a classic timeless feel to them.

American Hustle is set in the 1970s and is based on the true story of an FBI sting Operation called Abscam which involved a notorious financial con artist (Bale) and his partner (Adams). They were forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters, and politicians. They helped take down some U.S. Congressmen. The corruption case initially targeted trafficking in stolen property but was converted to a public corruption investigation that stretched from Atlantic City to Washington, DC. Renner plays the New Jersey state assembly leader, the center of the story, who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden.

The movie gets a limited release on December 13th, and goes wide on December 25th. Watch the trailer, and let us know if you'll be seeing the movie.

New Details on CW's Proposed FLASH Series

Yesterday we learned that The CW was looking to to develop another DC comic TV series based on The Flash. Apparently the character will be introduced in the next season of Arrow before he gets his spinoff series.

Arrow writers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns will be writing the script for the pilot.

We've now got a few more updates on the series. According to Deadline, the character is set to show up in the 8th or 9th episode of Arrow season 2, and they are going to start looking for an actor to take on the role this week.  Berlanti had this to say in a statement,

"Barry Allen’s story always has been a favorite of mine, as well as of Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns. We wanted everyone to know about the show as that process commenced. We think it fits well both in terms of Arrow and as a stand-alone series."

Kreisberg added in a separate interview with THR:

"When we first meet Barry Allen, he's just a forensic scientist … an ordinary man. Part of the fun for the audience … is to see how we view our Arrow take on the Flash legacy. Some of it will feel very familiar to DC Comics, some of it hopefully will feel different, fresh and exciting. The same way we approached Arrow is the same way we're approaching Barry."

He goes on to say that The Flash will be wearing his a version of his classic suit:

"No sweat suits or strange code names; he will be The Flash."

As for the Wonder Woman series they were developing, Amazon, that's been put on hold. CW executive Mark Pedowitz explained,

Amazon is on pause (as) the script is not exactly what we wanted, and with an iconic character like Wonder Woman, we have to get it right.”

Hopefully they can take The Flash and turn it into an cool series that we can enjoy!

Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, has many similarities to DC's Catwoman. Both are master thieves, dress in tight black outfits, have cat in their name, wear masks, have super gymnastic abilities, and have an off-again on-again relationship with a masked hero. One very unique thing to Black Cat is she manages to make white hair hot.

New Details on Duncan Jones' WARCRAFT Movie!

$

0

Earlier this month at Comic-Con, we got a chance to see some epically badass test footage for Duncan Jones' big screen adaptation of Warcraft.  You can read our description of that footage here, but I hope that it is released online soon because I'd love to see it again!

Now we have some possible new details on the upcoming film thanks to Bleeding Cool. They say that the "film’s story is not an adaptation of World of Warcraft, and instead takes place around the events of the first couple of Warcraft games, ‘real time strategy’ classics of the mid-90s." They also go on to talk about some of the characters that will be featured in the game.

Here's their assessment, which has not been confirmed. So as of right now, treat this as a rumor, but a really cool rumor.

The lead character seems set to be Khadgar, a young consul to the Kirin Tor senate, rulers of the city of Dalaran. Early in the story, Khadgar is charged with investigating a series of crimes that have rocked the city, but as we go on, we’ll find that his mission leads him into a quest beyond the city walls.
Then there’s his mentor, Medivh, a mage and the sworn protector of mankind against demonkind. Johnny Depp was rumoured for a role almost as soon as the film was announced, and while I can’t find any substance to those rumours, at least not right now, I’m sure this would be the part he was up for. Not quite Gandalf meets Captain Jack Sparrow, he’s actually a more morally complex character than will be at first revealed. Expect him to be a scene stealer, too.
And set on a collision course with Medivh is Lothar, The Lion of Azeroth, leader of the King’s Army. He’s brave but maybe a touch too bold. In a straight down the middle version of the film, this might be the role The “Dwayne Johnson” Rock would go up for, though I’m imagining somebody like Mark Strong could carry just the right amount of pride and gravity.
And then there are the King and his Lady too,  playing key supporting roles. Expect to see some well-loved actors in these parts.
I’ve got less of an idea of the specific Orc characters involved, but there’s definitely plenty of them, and I know that their story will be intimately entwined with that of Medivh. We can also expect to see dwarves, trolls, elves, revenants and wraiths.
The impression I’ve picked up, from a few sources and the information I’ve been passed, is that this project makes no concessions to tidy mainstreaming, or chewing the gristle out of its meaty, raw fantasy ideas. The names are big and a spellcheck unfriendly, there will be mythical creatures all over the place, the magic will flow and so will the talk of prophecies and ancient artefacts.

As expected, it sounds like it's going to be the epic fantasy adventure film we were all hoping for! What do you think about the details revealed here?

We also cover some of the fallout from the abrupt cancellation of FEZ 2, the newly announced Tomb Raider comic by Gail Simone, JDot's recent Steam spree, my experience so far with Shadow Run Returns, and for Colartibles we spotlight the Hot Toys Exclusive Mandarin Mansion Assault Tony Stark, and instead of Kickstart This, we highlight the other side of the coin with a project that went belly-up (lets call it Don't Kickstart This). GRAVITY, directed by Oscar® nominee Alfonso Cuaron, stars Oscar® winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney).  But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes.  The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.  The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue.  As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Here's an extended trailer for Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi action film, Elysium, that is nearly four minutes long. As you might expect, it includes some really cool new footage. If you're excited to see this movie, you'll want to watch this trailer!

Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga, and William Fitchner. It's set to hit theaters on August 9th! Enjoy the new trailer!

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

Red-Band Trailer for the Sci-Fi Horror Film ALMOST HUMAN

I really enjoyed this red-band trailer for an upcoming sci-fi horror film called Almost Human. As you'll see in the trailer, it kind of has a fun 1980s horror sci-fi movie vibe to it. This looks like it will be an entertaining movie. The reason the trailer is red-band is because it has a good amount of blood and gore. Here's a description of the story:

Mark Fisher disappeared from his home in a brilliant flash of blue light almost two years ago. His friend Seth Hampton was the last to see him alive. Now a string of grisly, violent murders leads Seth to believe that Mark is back, and something evil is living inside of him.

The film is set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September. Enjoy the trailer!

"You die for your country. I'm gonna live for mine."

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Peter Berg's Navy SEAL action drama, Lone Survivor. The movie has a incredible cast of actors that includes Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, and Eric Bana. The movie is based on a true story, and it looks really freakin' good! I enjoy watching movies based on the military, and it looks like Berg did a great job putting this one together.

[Marcus] Luttrell and his Navy SEAL team members fought to stay alive after being ambushed in Afghanistan in 2005 by Taliban forces during a covert mission in the Hindu Kush mountain region, where the team went to kill a terrorist leader.

The movie will get a limited release on December 27th and will go wide January 10th. Check out the trailer below!

Does STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Start Shooting Next Month?

Fan Poster by Pierre-Luc Boucher

Fan Poster by Pierre-Luc Boucher

Rumor has it that J.J. Abrams will start shooting Star Wars: Episode VII next month! I guess that would make sense as the film has been in pre-production for awhile. This information comes from Jedi News who says the movie is currently working under the pseudonym Foodles Productions Ltd, which was registered by Disney on 26th March 2013.

The site also says "that the film has been in pre-production at Pinewood Studios for three and a half months in advance of an August 2013 shooting date. We hear they have block booked the studios for 10 years and that construction of offices and facilities on-site is underway. Also storage space is being located in the local area."

The movie has to go into production sometime, so next month is as good a time as any if they are actually ready to go. If this news is legit, then it's safe to assume that they are very very close to locking down the lead actors for the film, recently rumored to be Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron, both of whom are products of Disney.

I imagine that Disney will be making some official statements about this movie at D23, so stay tuned for more information because we'll be there covering it!

JACKASS PRESENTS: BAD GRANDPA Trailer

Paramount Pictures has released the first hilarious trailer for Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. When I first heard about this movie I rolled my eyes at the idea, but this trailer had me busting up laughing so it looks like they won me over. Johnny Knoxville stars as 86-year-old vulgar grandpa Irving Zisman, who we've seen before in the previous Jackass films putting people in some very uncomfortable situations. Here's the synopsis,

86 year-old Irving Zisman is on a journey across America with the most unlikely companions, his 8 year-old Grandson Billy in "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.” This October, the signature Jackass character Irving Zisman (Johnny Knoxville) and Billy (Jackson Nicoll) will take movie audiences along for the most insane hidden camera road trip ever captured on camera.
Along the way Irving will introduce the young and impressionable Billy to people, places and situations that give new meaning to the term childrearing. The duo will encounter male strippers, disgruntled child beauty pageant contestants (and their equally disgruntled mothers), funeral home mourners, biker bar patrons and a whole lot of unsuspecting citizens.
Real people in unreal situations, making for one really messed up comedy.

The movie hits theaters on October 25th!

Bryan Singer sent out a new photo from X-Men: Days of Future Past featuring Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) kicking the hell out of some guy's throat and holding him up against the wall. Poor bastard, looks like it hurts!

The movie also stars Hugh JackmanIan McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Shawn Ashmore, Nicolas Hoult, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, and Boo Boo Stewart.

The film is based on the comic book storyline "Days of Future Past," which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne's run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.

The movie will be released on July 18th, 2014.

Trailer for Abigail Breslin's Horror Thriller HAUNTER

This new horror thriller Haunter comes from Splice director Vincenzo Natali. The film stars Abigail Breslin (Zombieland) as a young girl who must unravel a decades-old mystery to save her family.

It looks like a decent haunted house thriller. The Conjuring set such a high bar, though, and it's going to be hard for horror films like this to reach it. Haunter could end up being a fun movie, but it doesn't look like it's going to bring the intense scares. For me anyway. I'm sure it will scare some people who aren't as desensitized as I am.

The movie comes out on October 18th!
