THOR: THE DARK WORLD Comic-Con Footage Description

A lot happened today in Hall H yesterday. New stuff was flying out left and right. One of the most awesome panels was the Marvel Panel. It started out with Tom Hiddleston coming out as Loki. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand. He also set up the new footage for Thor: The Dark World.

It starts out as the trailer that we have already seen, with a battle. Lady Sif andThe Warriors Three fighting a battle and in the middle of it Thor drops down from the sky in his tunnel of light and starts messing bad guys up. Sif is mad at him and tells Thor that she had it handled. Right as she tells him this, Thor starts to walk away from her and you hear the clanking of metal. You see that Sif had blocked an arrow that was headed right for Thor's head. He smiles at her, and the ground starts to shake and we see a giant rock monster making his way towards Thor, Sif tells Thor, "This is all you". Naturally, Thor wins with just one hit.

It then cuts to the voice over of Anthony Hopkins and the stuff that we have already seen in the trailer. Then we hear Thor telling Loki that he is going to let him go. However, if he does anything that Thor doesn't like, he will kill him. We are shown a little montage that shows what looks like Thor and Loki working together and kicking some butt. That is when everything goes south. We see Loki throw Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) to the ground at the feet of who we can only assume is Christopher Eccleston. Thor is on the ground while this is going on. You see him reach out for his hammer, and Loki then cuts off his hand at the wrist. Then they cut to black.

That was some great footage with some stunning scenery. I can't wait to see the film.

Until next time...

This Thor: The Dark World action figure give us our first look at what the Dark Elf Kurse will look like in the film. The character is being played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Before Kurse became Kurse he was Algrim the Strong, the most powerful of a race of Dark Elves, who was coerced by Malekith to fight Thor. In the comics he was betrayed by the villain Malekith and injured in battle. Algrim was healed and transformed into the much more powerful being Kurse, who is twice as a strong as Thor.

Joss Whedon Says AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Is an Original Story

Over the weekend at Comic-Con, Marvel and Joss Whedon announced the title of The Avengers sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron. A lot of us assumed it would be based on the 10-issue limited series comic crossover, but it doesn't sound like that will be the case. The director revealed in a interview with Marvel on their liveblog that the movie will be an original story, and that the comic character Hank Pym won't even be involved with the film. Here's what he had to say about that,

"Well, because there was a book called 'Age of Ultron' quite recently, a lot of people have assumed that is what we're doing, but that is not the case. We're doing our own version of the origin story for Ultron. In the origin story, there was Hank Pym, so a lot of people assumed that he will be in the mix. He's not. We're basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use. A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside."

So if Pym doesn't create Ultron, I think it's safe to assume that Tony Stark will be the creator. He goes on to talk about the tone of the sequel saying,

"We're crafting our own version of it where his origin comes more directly from The Avengers we already know about. It's a little bit darker than the other film because Ultron is in the house. There's a science fiction theme that wasn't there in the other one. Ultron is definitely something that evolves, so we're going to get together a couple of different iterations. Nothing can be translated exactly as it was from the comics; particularly Ultron."

Then he spoke about the global scale of the film, and the character he enjoyed writing for most, surprisingly saying that it was Hawkeye.

"It's very much a global Avengers film. A lot of the movie has to do with their place not just in America, but the world. Part of the fun for me, definitely this time around, is writing Hawkeye. He did get possessed pretty early by a bad guy and had to walk around all scowly for most of the movie so now it's nice to actually have the character there and see him interact with the other guys."

That's cool. Hawkeye isn't really my favorite character, but it sounds like this sequel will show us a different side of him. Marvel Comics fans shouldn't be surprised that the studio is going to change things up. Their cinematic universe is its own beast, and I'm ok with that. I love what Marvel's been doing, and I can't wait to see Whedon's vision of the sequel come to life!

What do you all think about what he had to say?

Jeff Wadlow Gives Update on X-FORCE Movie

Fox didn't officially announce an X-Force movie at Comic-Con this year like we thought they would. Instead they treated fans with the entire cast and footage from Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past . It doesn't mean the movie isn't in the works. Kick-Ass director Jeff Wadlow is currently writing the film, and in a recent interview with Cinema Blend he gave an update on where he currently is in the development of the project.

“I’m pretty deep into it, I have the whole story completely worked out. I’m about 20 pages into my draft. If I wasn’t promoting Kick-Ass, I would probably have a draft [already], but Kick-Ass is going to slow me down just a little.”

The writer and director was asked about the importance of the team's leader, Cable to which he replied,

"Here’s the thing, I love the current run of Uncanny X-Force. I love the classic run. Part of my take was addressing this idea that X-Force can be many different things, and that’s what got the studio excited. I think the fans will be excited, too.”

The fans are excited, and Wadlow could have the talent to give us an awesome film adaptation.  Hopefully he turns in a great script that the studio likes and they greenlight the hell out of it!

X-Force was launched in the early '90s, and the team the original team consisted of characters such as Cable, Cannonball, Domino, Warpath, and Deadpool, and later incarnations featured Wolverine, Psylocke, Sunspot, and Colossus.

AMC has released the Comic-Con countdown trailer for Breaking Bad, which was shown to fans before the panel started. The network also showed us the very first scene of the the next episode that airs, and it left the audience with a ton of questions about what's to come! I imagine AMC will release it online in the near future, so if they do, we'll post it for you!

Breaking Bad returns on Sunday, August 11th at 9pm, and everyone that worked on the show is extremely happy with how it ends. It's going to be great to see how this story plays out!

The Comic-Con panel for X-Men: Days of Future Past was one of the best panels at the convention, and after seeing it, I wasn't sure if Marvel would be able to top it, but they did! Regardless, it was still an incredibly fun panel, and now it's online for all of you to enjoy! If you weren't able to attend Comic-Con this is the closest you will get. HBO has released this fun new featurette for The Wolverine that features a great new clip of Logan impatiently interrogating one of the bad guys. The video features Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold as they talk about the film, and the clip that they introduce.

Brad Anderson to Direct Psychological Thriller RESTART

Session 9 director Brad Anderson is set to direct a new film project! A psychological thriller called Restart, which is based on Matthew Klein’s novel No Way Back. I enjoy Anderson's work, which also includes The Machinist, Transibierian, and most recently, The Call, which wasn't his best film.

The story centers on an ordinary man who discovers that his entire life is being infiltrated and manipulated by a terrifying criminal network. This seems like a great project for Anderson to develop, as it seems like a story that would fit his style.

The director is currently in production on another project, called Eliza Graves, which stars Kate Beckinsale, Jim Sturgess, Michael Caine, and Ben Kingsley.

Here's a description of the book:

Jimmy thinks he knows about loss, about fear, about paranoia.
He should think again.
Every time Jimmy Thane has been faced with a crossroad, he's taken the wrong path. But after years of drinking and womanising, he has been given one last chance to save both his career and his marriage - he has seven weeks to transform a failing company.
From the moment he enters the building there's something wrong - the place is too quiet, too empty. When the police come calling about the disappearance of the former CEO, Jimmy starts to wonder what he's got himself into. Then he discovers surveillance equipment in his neighbour's house, looking straight into his front room. And his wife isn't just tired, she's terrified and trying to hide it.
Nothing is at it seems. Jimmy's not living his dream - he's been plunged into the worst kind of nightmare. And when the truth comes out, it's more terrifying than he could ever imagine...

We've got a great animated prequel for Bong Joon-ho's post-apcalyptic sci-fi film Snowpiercer  to show you. The clip tells the stories of the world before it turns into a popsicle and the train departs. Some reviews of this film have started to roll in and they've all been extremely positive, so that's cool!

The movie is based on the French graphic novel LeTransperceneige created by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Jamie Bell, Ewan Bremner, Ed Harris,  Alison Pill, Octavia Spencer,  and Song Kang-ho.

Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.

There's still no word on when the movie will be released, but I hope it comes out soon. I want to see the damn thing already!

Mondo has released an awesome movie poster created by illustrator Martin Ansin for Neill Blomkamp's Elysium. The poster puts the main characters of the film in focus and shows the different levels of society that they exist in.

175 prints of the poster art above were made for Comic Con, and sold for $75. As for the version below, it will eventually be available on Mondo’s online store. 380 will be printed and sold for $50.

The movie comes out on August 9th!

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

STAR TREK 3 Will Be Written by THOR Scribes

It looks like Paramount Pictures is ready to get moving on Star Trek 3! According to Badass Digest, writing duo Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz have been hired by the studio to take on the script. This is the team that wrote Thor and has a writing credit on X-Men: First Class. They also worked on Fringe

The site makes a point of mentioning that Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci are also still attached as writers on the film, but they were instrumental in making the decision about bringing on Stentz and Miller. This news isn't official yet, but the studio is pushing to get the new sequel in theaters by 2016 to mark the franchises 50th anniversary.

Zachary Quinto recently said that Star Trek 3 could shoot next year and that J.J. Abrams might direct. The only way I could see that happening is if he dropped out of directing Star Wars, which is something that I've heard recently, but there's no way... right? That would be the worst news ever.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 - Watch the Full Comic-Con Panel

The Comic-Con panel for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was one of the more entertaining ones! Spider-Man himself came out on stage with several other members of the cast, and he was pretty starstruck when he met Jamie Foxx. Andrew Garfield conveniently showed up after Spider-Man left. They all talked a little bit about the film which you can watch below, and they showed off the incredible first footage from the film! That's not included in the video as attendees aren't supposed to record the footage, but here's a description!

Spider-Man: "You know what it is I love about being Spider-Man? Everything. Everyone has a part of themselves they hide. Even from the people they love the most."

Electro: "Soon everyone will know how it feels to live in my world... a world without Spider-Man. I'm Electro!"

The footage starts off with a truck plowing down a city street, cops in pursuit. Spider-Man is on the chase, jumping from one cop car to another, eventually landing on the hood of the truck being driven by Paul Giamatti. Spider-Man enters the truck. We cut to a scene featuring Peter arguing with Aunt May about doing laundry with the red and blue colors leaking on other clothes to which Peter says, "I was washing the flag!" It then cuts back to the truck were we see Spider-Man taking on a pre-rhinofied Giamatti. He swings in and saves Max from the truck. Max is destined to be Electro. Spider-Man assures Max that he's not a nobody. As Max watches in awe, Spider-Man holds Giamatti down in some kind of awkward web-slinging trap. You can tell that Max wishes he was Spider-Man. We cut to Gwen saying that she loves Peter Parker more than Spider-Man. Then we see Max climbing up some kind of wall with a lot of computerized tech to fix something that broke. He is electrocuted and then falls into a tank full of electric eels, and at that point the tank bursts. Next time we see his face, it's glowing under a hood, and there's a voiceover of someone that might by Harry Osborn saying, "You will never be invisible again." Max says he wants people to feel what it feels like to live in his world. A world without power. We then get a great epic shot of Electro flying above the city blowing shit up and zapping people with electrified bolts from his hands. All the lights in Times Square New York go out and everything explodes. The last thing we see from the footage is a cool shot of Spider-Man catching a cop car flying through the air just before it lands on someone.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out on May 2nd, 2013. Now watch the panel!

THE WOLVERINE - Expect a Bloodier Unrated Cut!

For those of you hoping to see a bloody version of The Wolverine, it's coming! In a recent interview with Digital Spy, director James Mangold said that the movie would be getting a bloodier, more violent unrated cut! Of course you'll have to wait until it's released on Blu-ray or DVD, but it's coming. When asked about the current cut of the film, and what will be included on the DVD, he explained,

"I'm very happy with the cut, and the studio was very generous in terms of letting me finish the movie as I wanted, but I do think we will have a slightly more violent version... let's say an unrated, a bloodier version. There's about ten or 12 minutes of scenes that I'd love people to see, that we'll produce some kind of longer version of the movie at some point on Blu-ray or whatever. There's another great scene with Hiro Sanada and a much more elaborate battle with ninjas from the third act that is a pretty huge battle sequence that you'll see."

I'm already excited to see the regular version, but if an even more badass version exists, then count me in! The Wolverine hits theaters on July 26th, 2013!

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.

How CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 Bridges the Gap to AVENGERS 2

I always enjoy seeing how Marvel connects their cinematic universe together, and Captain America seems to be a main gear in the Avengers storyline. In a recent interview with The Huffington PostCaptain America: The Winter Soldier co-director Joe Russo discussed the upcoming film, and how it serves as the connective tissue for The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"There's a very strong connection in the narrative between the events of the end of 'Avengers' that drive this film -- and there's a very strong hand off to 'Avengers 2' at the end of this movie. And Kevin Feige's whole thing is that this is the biggest bridge of all of Phase 2 movies; it really is. It does involve the most amount of Avengers of any of the films in Phase 2, and it has sort of a, you know, there's a very big shift in the universe at the end of this movie."

Damn! That sounds pretty freakin' exciting! I can't wait to see what this "big shift" is! Do you have any ideas of what it could be?

I got to see the first footage from the film at Comic-Con, and it was pretty freakin' epic! This is going to be a huge film, and I was really surprised by some of the stuff that was shown. It's going to be a huge action-packed political thriller. There was so much awesomeness!

The movie hits theaters on July 4th, 2014.
