While we wait for the Riddick panel to go down at Comic-Con on Friday in Hall H, here's a new TV spot for the film to tide you all over until we can bring you some more details!

The sci-fi movie was directed by David Twohy, and also stars Katee Sachoff, Jordi Molla, Karl Urban, Matt Nable, ConradPla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk, Keri Hilson, Bokeem Woodbine, and David Bautista.

The movie hits theaters on September 6th, 2013! Stay tuned for more awesomeness from Comic-Con!

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Breathtaking WWII Wonder Woman Cosplay

I don't know if it's the planes or the beautiful girl holding golden guns, but I'm just really proud to be an American right now. Jessica LG has rocked a more classic Wonder Woman look before, but this utilitarian approach to the costume is by far the best looking version she's done. She looks an equal part Peggy Carter as Diana of Themyscira. The awe-inspiring photography by VisualVortex just takes this to the next level.

Universal Pictures has released a new action-packed TV spot for Kick-Ass 2! I'm sure the studio will be releasing more footage from the film soon after they hold their panel at Comic-Con! Stay tuned to GeekTyrant for all of your Comic-Con needs!

The movie is set to be released on August 16th, 2013!

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.
When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.
Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

David Fincher's 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA Is Dead

I'm disappointed to report that David Fincher's long-awaited big screen adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is dead. According to The Playlist, Fincher gave up on the production a couple of months ago. I guess this should have been apparent when we heard that the director was moving forward with his adaptation of the thriller Gone Girl.

Apparently when Brad Pitt passed on the project, Disney and Fincher couldn't agree on who should star in the film. Some of the other actors considered included Daniel Craig, Matt Damon, Channing Tatum, and Chris Hemsworth, but none of them worked.

I was really looking forward to seeing this movie, and I'm sad that it's not going to happen. I'm sure Disney will eventually get around to making it, but it's not going to be directed by Fincher, so my excitement for the project is back to zero.

As for for the sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo called The Girl Who Played With Fire, it's still moving forward! Sony has hired Andrew Kevin Walker, who worked with Fincher on 20,000 Leagues, to rewrite the script that was originally written by Steve Zaillian. So there's a little bit of good news in this report!

Haywire star and MMA fight Gina Carano is set to star in a big screen adaptation of  Rob Liefeld's comic book Avengelyne. The two talents will be showing up at Comic-Con on Saturday to meet fans and sign posters for the film that will feature Carano as the title character.

The story centers on a fallen angel who is cast down to Earth. Her mission is to find and protect “the one,” who is a person that holds the key to saving mankind from demons and other forms of monsters.

According to THR, "Carano and Liefeld are re-conceiving and rebuilding the title into a starring vehicle for Carano and the movie project is intended to be in the vein of Underworld."

Carano isn't the best actress in the world, but she can sure kick some ass! This seems like a good project for her, and I'm sure she'll be awesome in it. Stay turned for the the poster image.

What do you think about Carano playing Avengelyne?

There's still no official word on whether Fox is going to show off any X-Men: Days of Future Padt footage during their panel at Comic-Con this year, but they're doing a good job teasing the movie, so I'm sure it's going to happen!

Above you'll find the head of a Sentinal from Task Industries, and below you'll find several character portraits from the movie, thanks to the official X-Men Movies tumblr. They include our first look at Omar Sy as Bishop and the new outfits that the other characters will be wearing. You'll also see young and older versions of Wolverine.

The movie also stars Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, and Boo Boo Stewart

The movie hits theaters on May 23rd, 2014.

The film is based on the comic book storyline "Days of Future Past," which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne's run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.

It was recently announced that Tom Cruise's new sci-fi film All You Need Is Kill was given the lame-ass new title Edge of Tomorrow. The movie was directed by Doug Liman, and they're sure to screen some footage during the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con in Hall H on Saturday. While we all wait to see and read about what they are going to show off, check out these photos from the convention room floor that give us a good look at some of the cool costumes that we'll be seeing in the movie.

Edge of Tomorrow stars Emily Blunt,  Bill Paxton, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, and Franz Drameh. It's set to open in theaters on June 6th 2014.

The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.
Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

We featured a collection of geek art by Lerms late last year. The artist has such an easily recognizable style with his bold use of color and shapes that just jump out at you. His take on Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel is one of his simplest pieces, but he's still able to convey all of the strength and power Superman has without showing any of his muscles and without putting his powers on display.

Teaser Art for the Upcoming Reboot of THE CROW

STYD

STYD

Here's a piece of teaser art for the upcoming remake of James O'Barr's comic The Crow. Barr recently was hired on as a consultant for the film production, which will star Luke Evans and be directed by F. Javier Gutierrez. With O'Barr on board, hopefully they will be able to give us an awesome new Crow movie. STYD talked to Barr in a recent interview, and he said,

Brandon was a friend and I'd never do anything that hinted at betrayal.  But what Javier told me was that he wanted to go back to the source material.  Be as faithful as possible which would make it something entirely different.  Proyas' film is stunning and stylized.  I mean that in a good way.  Nothing negative about it.  Going back to the original book and keeping it grounded and realistic and dirty and gritty, it really appealed to me.  Even so much as to carrying over the visual metaphors like horses and trains - where the street signs always say No Exit or One Way.  Exploring it with a different attitude appealed to me.

He went on to talk about his involvement as a consultant explaining,

Well, all of the details haven't been ironed out other than creative consultant. But what brought me around after 20 years was Javier. Before talking with him, I was 110% against it. There was no point or need for a reboot. In my mind, you could throw a $100 million at it, put Johnny Depp in it and had Ridley Scott direct and it wouldn't top what Alex Proyas and Brandon Lee did. I explained all of that the minute Javier arrived, "Remaking the movie was a terrible idea and you'll never work in American again."

The director talked about his pitch for the movie saying:

I love the story and I told them I'd do it because I love the story, but it's not a remake of the original.  It's a new interpretation.  Of course, we have to fill some parts and new elements, but there was so much beauty and passion to the original.  A lot in there we could do that was never done.  That's the main thing that captured my attention.  We can do something original.  The darkness, the beauty, the violence and love.  That's what got me excited.  A lot of fans responded to the original movie, but this is going to be different.  This is going to give them some good gifts.  We're going to pull some stuff from the original comic that's going to be tough and we're going to do it in an original and artistic way.
Is your mind a little more at ease now that O'Barr is helping on the project? Maybe a little more excited?

New Poster for the OLDBOY Remake

FilmDistrict has released a new poster for Spike Lee's Oldboy remake. The movie looks like it will be decent. I don't know if you've watched the red-band trailer for it, but it looks almost exactly like the original Chan-wook Park film, only it's in English. If you haven't seen the trailer yet, click here.

The remake has an impressive cast of actors that includes Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sharlto Copley. I love this cast, and they are the only reason I'm going to see the movie.

OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

The movie comes out on October 25th, 2013. Are you looking forward to seeing the remake?

Mini Batgirl Cosplay Complete with Mini Batcycle

This Batgirl cosplayer is so cute and tiny that she could probably fit in Batman's Utility Belt. Let's face it, it wouldn't be the weirdest thing Adam West-era Batman pulled out of there. Just make her foul-mouthed and pair her up with a mustachioed Bruce Wayne, and they'd give Hit-Girl and Big Daddy a run for their money.

Max Landis No Longer Writing CHRONICLE 2

A lot of people have been asking Chronicle writer Max Landis what's going on with the sequel. He had an idea for it, and he wrote a script, but apparently he and 20th Century Fox just couldn't agree on where they should take the story. According to Landis, the studio liked his script, but it was too dark for them. As you know, Fox doesn't like to make dark movies, so they decided to move on, and according to Landis, via his Twitter, they've hired new writers to work on the project.

Here's a collection of tweets from the writer discussing the project and what happened:

"I've been off 'Chronicle 2' for months now. Fox had a different direction they wanted to take the series. Ultimately, I'm just very grateful to Fox for making a film as close to my original script as 'Chronicle' was. For making the film at all. So yeah, it's sad that as of right now I'm not involved in the sequel, and don't know what it's about even, but ultimately I can't complain. The truth is, when you're successful as a screenwriter, you have to just take everything in stride. That's like more than half the job.
'Chronicle 2' is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It's a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings. They hired new writers on it. I'm sure they'll announce soon. Just hope this answers the questions I've been getting everyday."

The first Chronicle was really cool, and I hope they are able to make a decent sequel. It sucks that they ditched Landis, I would have liked to see his version of the sequel. After all, it was his creation. Are you looking forward to Chronicle 2 regardless of who is writing it?

Luke's Jedi Training Gets Cut Even Shorter

This picture reminded me of two things that always puzzled me about Star Wars: Yoda's conflicting statements about whether or not Luke had completed his Jedi training, and why Obi Wan would let Luke handle such a dangerous (albeit "civilized") weapon without any instruction on how to use it.

But where's the fun in scrutinizing over those details? It's create a caption time! Here are a few to get you started:

  • Obi Wan: "Well, he WAS our new hope."
  • Obi Wan:  "It's not as clumsy or random as a bla-… it's just as dangerous and deadly though."
  • Obi Wan: "Don't worry Luke, they'll be able to fix that eye and your hand." Luke: "What happens to my hand?" Obi Wan: "You'll see."

We've got a new trailer for you to watch! It's for Ridley Scott's new thrillerThe Counselor, and it has more footage. The film looks like a great piece of filmmaking, and I'm looking forward to seeing it. The cast of the film includes Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Dean Norris, Rosie Perez, and John Leguizamo.

The movie was scripted by Cormac McCarthy,  and the story takes place in the contemporary Southwest. It centers on a respected lawyer who thinks he can get into the drug business just a little without getting sucked in. Obviously, that turns out to be a bad decision, and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.

The movie comes out on October 25th, 2013! Enjoy the new trailer!

Cycle Girl Character Concept

Here's a fantastic concept piece by Korean artist Crazyred for a fictional magazine called Cycle Monthly. There are some really great details on the clothing, and the concept for the cycle really makes me want to see it in motion.

Before you start booking your flight to find yourself a hot Korean cyclist, lemme just say that when I lived in Korea I never saw any girl like this. Believe me, I would have remembered if I did. The public transportation is so good over there that, at least in the places I lived, I hardly ever saw people on bicycles. The only people I saw riding bikes were kids and old men. Sorry.

Marvel has revealed Captain America's new motorcycle in The Winter Solider, and it's on display at their booth at Comic-Con. Makes sense that he'd be riding around on a slick Harley. I imagine that it's S.H.I.E.L.D. issued. If you're walking around on the convention room floor, I suggest you check it out!

The story picks up where The Avengers left off, "as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C. "

The Anthony and Joe Russo directed film stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Maximiliano Hernández, Robert Redford, and Georges St-Pierre.

The movie hits theaters on April 4th, 2014.

In this fan-made animatic, Batman takes on his most dastardly villain yet… annoying people who film everything with their cell phones.

The storyboards were done by former Pixar animator Alex Orelle. In between the action there are some nice comedic beats and reaction shots. The name of the animatic is "Foot Sandwich," but I couldn't for the life of me figure out why.

SDCC 2013: Sherlock Panel

$

0

So, I just went to the Sherlock panel, and you guys? It was fantastic! The bad news is Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman couldn't be there. They both filmed greetings for us, though. I wrote out a long description, and then found out they released the video  online, so I'm including it below. The good news is that since they weren't there, we didn't have to waste too much time waiting for the screams of fangirls to die down. Anyway, Steven Moffatt (co-creator, executive producer), Mark Gatiss (co-creator, executive producer, Mycroft), and Sue Vertue (executive producer) were there, and they are super fun and interesting.

They dove right into last season's cliffhanger: How did he survive? They aren't telling, but they did know how it worked before they filmed it, so they aren't just flying by the seat of their pants. It is a rational answer, not black magic. Depsite reports that Andrew Scott was back on set to film scenes for the third season, they swear Moriarty is actually dead. "What, did they fake suicide at each other? Were you faking? I was faking, too!" That's not going to happen. As for speculation that he can't be dead because they didn't show the back off his head come off--sorry to say they just aren't allowed to show that level of violence on BBC1.

Moffatt knows people are excited to learn how Sherlock managed it, but he doesn't think it's that interesting. That's just an answer. But when John Watson realizes that Sherlock is alive, when they come face to face again? "That moment is electrifying." And it's funny. Moffatt calls it "the showstopper of the season."

Moffatt always gives hints about what Sherlock Holmes stories the next season will hit, and for Season 3, he's said, "Rat, Wedding, and Bow." The first episode is called "The Empty Hearse" and is very slightly based on "The Adventures of the Empty House." It is mostly an exploration of the affect of Sherlock's "death" and reappearance on the people who loved him. The writers realized that there would be a lot of fallout from the events of last season, but they couldn't spend all of this season talking about last season, so it sounds like they're going to deal with it in this episode.

Episode 2 is called "The Sign of Three," and seems to focus on Watson's wedding, and you guys? They showed us a clip, and it was amazing! They asked us not to even tell anyone about it, but eff that noise! We're at Watson's wedding reception, and Sherlock is beginning his toast. Yeah, amazing. He begins awkwardly (of course), "John… John Watson…" and explains that when Watson asked him to be his best man, he was confused. Then it flashes back, to Watson walking in on Sherlock appleying a blowtorch to a disembodied eyeball, which he promptly dips in his cup of tea. Watson says that they need to talk about the best man, and Sherlock starts going on and on about who he thinks the best man is. Watson interrupts and says he means the best man at his wedding. Sherlock starts talking about one of Watson's friends, Watson says not him, then another, Watson says that he isn't his best friend, and says that at his wedding he wants the two people who are closest to him and mean the most to him by his side, and tells Sherlock that it's him. Sherlock's jaw drops. Cut back to the wedding, and Sherlock is explaining his reaction, how he told him how he was touched and honored… cut back to Sherlock still standing there, speechless. He knew it would be an important and difficult task… cut to Sherlock, still standing there, speechless. Sherlock says he then realized he hadn't said anything out loud. Sherlock accepts, and promptly drinks the eyeball tea.

They didn't tell us much about the third episode, although when someone asked if season 3 ends with a cliffhanger, Moffatt said the audience will be thinking, "They wouldn't stop it there? No… they wouldn't stop it there? Oh dear God, they wouldn't stop it there?!" And then that will go on for awhile…

That's most of the important stuff, but here are some odds and ends:

  • The plane full of corpses was filled with real people who were all asleep. In the middle of a good take, one of them started and let out a big snort.
  • If Sherlock, the Doctor, and Batman were all trying to solve a crime, Batman wouldn't have a shot, but the crime would probably go unsolved while Sherlock and the Doctor had a "bitchfight." Then Moffat clarified that he likes Batman, he just doesn't have a job on his show.
  • Sherlock isn't really a sociopath, but he finds it a convenient excuse to do whatever he wants. He may have believed he was, but meeting Moriarty made him realize how different they were. He was also humanized by his friendship with John.
  • The terrible horrible no good very bad long breaks between seasons may actually allow the show to continue for a long time. The actors have plenty of time to pursue other projects and then come back to the show refreshed. So, silver lining-ish?
  • Cumberbatch and Freeman have a natural chemistry, and it was apparent from the first time they read together. Then they all laughed about making the two biggest stars in the UK audition for them.
  • If Mark Gatiss could say anything to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, it would be, "Thank you, but Spiritualism isn't true."

Season 3 of Sherlock will be coming to PBS in early 2014.
