Crazy UK Trailer for James McAvoy's Filthy Film FILTH

Lionsgate has released a new UK trailer for James McAvoy's jacked up looking new film, Filth. We've posted a couple of red-band trailers in the past, and this movie seriously looks deranged, so of course I have to watch it!

The film has a great cast that also includes Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots, Jim Broadbent, EddieMarsan, Joanne Froggatt, Emun Elliott, Martin Compston, and Kate Dickie. The movie is based on the book by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, and here's the synopsis:

A bipolar, bigoted, junkie cop manipulates and hallucinates his way through the festive period, until he finally meets his match… himself.

Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?

There's no U.S. release date yet, but it opens up in Scottish cinemas on September 27th and the rest of the UK on October 4th.

SHARKNADO - Ridiculous "Almost Red-Band" Trailer!

Sharknado looks so ridiculously bad that it's going to be amazing! The SyFy Channel has released a new "Almost Red-Band" trailer for for the film that features a ton of new absurd footage that I couldn't help but laugh at. I love that they are using crowbars and chainsaws to kill the sharks that are raining down on them!

When a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace. And when the high-speed winds form tornadoes in the desert, nature’s deadliest killer rules water, land, and air.

The movie stars Aubrey Peeples, Tara Reid, Ian Ziering, and John Heard. It's set to premiere on Thursday, July 11 at 9/8c. Thanks to MachinimaETC for the trailer!

Official First Look at Tom Hanks as Walt Disney!

Time has given us our first look at Disney's upcoming movie Saving Mr. Banks. The photo features Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins.

Hanks and Thompson are a solid cast just on their own, but the film also stars Colin Farrell,  Jason Schwartzman, Paul Giamatti, and Ruth Wilson

The story follows Walt Disney (Hanks) as he attempts to convince British author P.L. Travers (Thompson) to sell him the rights to make her beloved Mary Poppins story into a the classic film we all know and love today. Farrell plays Travers' father, the man who inspired the character of Mr. Banks. Wilson will play the wife of Colin Farrell's character, Giamatti will play Travers' chauffeur Ralph, and Schwartzman will play Richard Morton Sherman, a songwriter who penned a number of tunes for Disney films, including Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and It's a Small World for the theme park attraction.

It took Disney 14 years to finally acquire the rights to Mary Poppins, the title role eventually played by Julie Andrews. After opposing the film's animated sequences, Travers refused to sell Disney the rights to her other books.

It is hard to make any solid judgments until a trailer is released, but I think this might be an interesting film to watch. The movie will get a limited theatrical release on December 13th and then expand into more theaters on December 20th.

Until Next time…

Marvel's Iron Man 3 has come and gone, but that doesn't mean we can't still bask in the glory of some of the artwork created for it. Here's a series of incredible key frame art that was created for the film by conceptual artist Rodney Fuentebella. This is definitely some of the coolest artwork for the film that I've seen so far. PACIFIC RIM - Collectible Statues and Action Figures

Pacific Rim looks like it might be the biggest movie of the summer, and I can't wait to see it. Sideshow Collectibles has partnered with director Guillermo Del Toro to make hyper-detailed collectible statues of Gispy Danger, Knifehead, Striker Eureka, and the yet to be revealed Slattern. As cool as these look in photos, they are even more impressive in person. Sideshow always has an amazing booth at Comic-Con, and I'm really looking forward to seeing these in person. Pre-ordering should be opening up pretty soon--sometime in July.

We have 3 videos, 25 photos, and 1 schematic for you pine over.

NECA has also created some collectibles, but these ones you can play with. These are available now. I've watched a few video reviews, and consensus is that these are bad-ass. For a 7-inch figures the detail is really sharp.

Summer Glau Cast in Major Role in ARROW Season 2

The CW has cast Firefly alum Summer Glau as a major character in the second season of their show Arrow. This show turned out to be a lot better than what I was expecting, and it just got better and better. The addition of Glau will just add to the greatness of the show.

According to TV Line, she will be playing Isabel Rochev, "the beautiful and dangerous Vice President of Aquisitions for Stellmoor International, a company looking to take over Queen Consolidated. Previously on the show, her name was glimpsed on Robert Queen’s 'list.'"

In the comics Isabel sees herself a bit as a rightful heir to the Queen family business, so she is hellbent on getting Oliver out of her way. She's also blond in the comic, so I imagine Glau will be getting a new hair style.

The kickass actress has also appeared in shows such as Dollhouse and The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Are you happy to hear she landed this role in Arrow?

Remake Alert! DAY OF THE DEAD

Texas Chainsaw 3D producers Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell have picked up the rights to George Romero‘s zombie film, Day of the Dead, and they are going to remake it. I understand that zombies are big right now, but there's no need to start remaking classic zombie movies. It's actually pretty easy to come up with an original idea and story for a zombie film. While talking to the LA Times Campbell said,

“Zombie movies are really popular right now, and we feel we could do this right.”

It was done right the first time around, so I don't know what she's talking about. Do what right? A zombie movie? Because let's be honest, it's really not that hard to get a zombie movie right. She goes on to say,

"We want to keep it as close to the Romero version as possible to make sure that his fans are happy. These are not going to be zombies climbing walls and doing back flips like in 'World War Z.'"

Here's a tip... you want to make the fans happy? Then don't remake a movie they like in the first place. How are these people producing movies!?

The movie will have a production budget of around $10 million to $20 million, and I can't help but think the movie will be mediocre just like their Texas Chainsaw 3D. They plan to release it next year.

What do you think about Romero's Day of the Dead being remade?

Legendary Pictures has had a working relationship with Warner Bros. for years, bringing us film such as The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, The Hangover films, and more.  They recently ended that partnership, and Legendary has moved on. They've landed a 5-year deal with Universal Pictures. Below you'll find the official press release with all of the details, but let's hope this partnership brings us a lot more movie awesomeness!

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA, July 10, 2013 — Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment will enter into a multi-year film partnership in which the two companies will produce and co-finance Legendary and Universal films with Universal distributing Legendary films worldwide. Making Universal its new home enables Legendary to not only leverage the power and success of Universal’s film business and theme parks, but also the cross promotional support from NBCUniversal and Comcast assets through the company’s “Symphony” program. The announcement was made today by Universal Pictures Chairman Adam Fogelson and Co-Chairman Donna Langley and Legendary Entertainment Chairman and CEO Thomas Tull.
“Comcast and NBCUniversal’s global assets in film, television and theme parks offer Legendary unmatched breadth and opportunity to grow our business. We are delighted to be in business with this exceptional team and look forward to a successful partnership,” said Tull.
Universal and Legendary’s film partnership is a complementary arrangement for both companies. Legendary, which is known for producing and financing successful large scale films, will continue to create and finance tent pole films based on intellectual property that is uniquely appealing to the coveted fanboy audience. And Universal, which has a proven track record of turning films of all shapes and sizes into hits with special skills in growing and nourishing original franchises, will market, co-finance and distribute Legendary films for five years beginning in 2014.
“Legendary has demonstrated a keen ability to identify and acquire powerful fresh intellectual property based ideas, match them with strong filmmakers and turn them into blockbuster hits,” said Fogelson and Langley. “The Universal team is thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Legendary in turning those ideas into the best and most successful versions of themselves around the world.”
Under the terms of the deal Universal and Legendary will jointly identify opportunities to expand Legendary’s franchises and intellectual property into Universal’s theme parks, and Universal will have an opportunity to collaborate with Legendary on projects in China following Legendary’s historic deal with China Film Group.
“Legendary continues to prove that big ideas are relevant and profitable with our global movie-going audience. We couldn’t be more thrilled to embrace the challenges and changing marketplace with Thomas and his team and we are also excited about what opportunities this will bring to our Theme Parks around the world,” said Ron Meyer, President and COO, Universal Studios.
“We are very excited to be in business with Thomas and Legendary,” said Steve Burke, CEO of NBCUniversal. “The partnership is a perfect fit for both companies and I am confident that together we will be in an even better position to deliver compelling, profitable entertainment content to a global audience for years to come.”

Universal Pictures has released a motion poster for Neill Blomkamp's spectacular looking sci-fi film, Elysium. The movie comes out this summer on August 9th, and it's going to be amazing.

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

Every year before Comic-Con, Marvel releases a couple of pieces of concept art for some of their upcoming movies. Today they give us one for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and it features the hero and the villain locked in epic battle. The art was created by Ryan Meinerd, and one of the interesting things about the piece is that Cap is sporting his original costume. I guess that won't come as a surprise to some of you, as there's a rumor that by the end of the film he'll be in his original costume, so this could solidify that rumor. To read more about that, click here

Marvel will be holding a panel for Captain America: The Winter Soldier at Comic-Con and they'll be showing off the first footage from the film there. Thor: The Dark World will also  be there, and Marvel is expected to make a few other big announcements! Stay tuned for more details!

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will pick-up where "Marvel’s The Avengers" left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be released in theaters April 4th, 2014.

Sam Mendes Officially Set to Direct BOND 24

We've heard the rumors, but now it's official. Sam Mendes is on board to direct the 24th James Bond film! The studio basically gave the director the time he needed to fulfill his previous obligations so that he could take on the next Bond film.  As a huge fan of Skyfall, I couldn't be more excited! The script was written by John Logan, and I have no doubt it's going to be another exciting chapter for the franchise.

Here's the full press release with all of the details:

CULVER CITY, Calif., July 11, 2013 – Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions; Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc, and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that Daniel Craig will once again return as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan. The film is set for release in UK theaters on October 23, 2015 and in US theaters on November 6, 2015.
SKYFALL™, the 23rd James Bond film, took in $1.1 billion worldwide and set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK; it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray and was the most critically acclaimed film in the history of the longest-running film franchise.
Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, “Following the extraordinary success of SKYFALL, we’re really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.”
“I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24. I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time,” said Mendes.
Barber added, “We are thrilled to reunite the extraordinary talents of director Sam Mendes with our star Daniel Craig for the next great Bond adventure.” He added, “As evidenced by the phenomenal success of our last collaboration with EON Productions and Sony, the incredible legacy of this 51-year-old franchise continues to amaze.”
Lynton and Pascal said, “It’s a privilege to work on the Bond films. EON, John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with an extraordinary follow up to SKYFALL and we, along with our partners at MGM, can’t wait to share this new chapter with audiences all over the world.”

Trailer for SAVING MR. BANKS with Tom Hanks as Walt Disney

Disney has released the first trailer for their upcoming new film Saving Mr. Banks, which features Tom Hanks playing the legendary Walt Disney.  The film is based on a true story that centers on Disney trying to convince the author of Mary Poppins, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), to let him turn her book in a movie.

I've been looking forward to this movie since it was first announced. I'm a huge fan of Hanks and all of the actors involved with the film. Mary Poppins is one of those classic Disney films that I grew up watching all the time, and it will be interesting to see long road it took to the big screen.

When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation.
For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp.
It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.
The movie is set to be released on December 20th.

Sean Astin Cast in Guillermo del Toro's THE STRAIN

$

Goonies and The Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin has been cast in the TV series adaptation of Guillermo del Toro's The Strain. Executive producer Carlton Cuse made the casting announcement on Twitter.

The series is set up at FX and Del Toro is co-writing the script with the book's author, Chuck Hogan. Del Toro is also planning to direct the series pilot.

The Strain book trilogy is a vampire bioterror thriller that tells the story of an outbreak in the U.S. of a virus that either kills those who are exposed to it or turns them into vampires. This is a very hardcore gritty vampire story that real vampire fans can enjoy.

The last I heard, the plan was to turn the books into a three season event series. Here's a detailed description from the book:

High-concept thriller with a supernatural edge from world-famous director, whose films include Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy. A plane lands at JFK and mysteriously 'goes dark', stopping in the middle of the runway for no apparent reason, all lights off, all doors sealed. The pilots cannot be raised. When the hatch above the wing finally clicks open, it soon becomes clear that everyone on board is dead -- although there is no sign of any trauma or struggle. Ephraim Goodweather and his team from the Center for Disease Control must work quickly to establish the cause of this strange occurrence before panic spreads. The first thing they discover is that four of the victims are actually still alive. But that's the only good news. And when all two hundred corpses disappear from various morgues around the city on the same night, things very rapidly get worse. Soon Eph and a small band of helpers will find themselves battling to protect not only their own loved ones, but the whole city, against an ancient threat to humanity.

Awkward STAR WARS Cantina Karaoke With Billy Dee Williams

I've seen some ludicrously funny things in my day, but this is really a piece of work. This is just one of those things you have to experience to believe.

I guess the video is an ad for Samsung's Galaxy S4, and it features Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) hitting up Karaoke Night at the Cantina on Tatooine. Lando performs a embarrassingly bad rendition of Jason Schwartzman's song, "West Coast."

The video also features appearances by Schwartzman, Patton Oswalt, Carrie Keagan, Chris Hardwick, and Mike Phirman. Check the weirdness out.

ENDER'S GAME and CARRIE EW Magazine Cover Photos

Entertainment Weekly has released a couple more covers for their upcoming Comic-Con issue. One is for Ender's Game, featuring Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford as Ender and Colonel Graff. The Other is for Carrie and features another blood-drenched image of Chloe Moretz.

There's been a lot of talk about the film recently due to the fact there's a boycott on it from a gay rights group that doesn't care for Orsen Scott Card's views on the gay community. Here's the thing, Card has already made his millions off the book series, so at this point the boycott isn't going to hurt him. The only people the boycott will hurt are the studio and the young actors who just wanted to make a fun sci-fi movie. I understand what the group is trying to do, but I don't think it's right to ruin the experience of the actors that lived out a dream of making a really cool sci-fi movie. All I'm saying is let them have their fun without turning the whole thing into a political statement.

The movie also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Ben Kinglsey, Moises Arias, KhylinRhambo, Viola Davis, Brandon Soo Hoo, and Nonso Anozie.

Ender's Game is set to have a Panel at Comic-Con next week where the studio is sure to show off some more cool footage! I imagine a new trailer will be released around that time. It hits theaters on November 1st, 2013. Are you excited to see it?

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.
Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

The movie was directed by Kimberley Peirce and also stars Chloe Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, and Portia Doubleday. The movie hits theaters October 18th, 2013, and it will have a Comic-con panel as well!

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White and her daughter Carrie. Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson, but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell, regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.
