THE CONJURING - First Sinister TV Spot

Warner Bros. has released the first TV spot for James Wan's incredible looking horror film The Conjuring. Wan knows how to tell good ghost stories without the blood and gore. He's great at messing around with the audience's head, and that's what makes his movies so effective. Here's the synopsis:

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

The cast includes Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver, and Sterling Jerins

The movie is set to haunt theaters on July 19th, 2013.

New WORLD WAR Z Clip - "No Place Doing Well"

Paramount Pictures has released a new clip from their zombie epic World War Z. It features Brad Pitt and a military crew he's with preparing for battle. Unfortunately, Pitt has to let them know that none of their home towns is doing very well. The movie comes out on June 21st, and I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised by how good it is. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

Based on Max Brooks' best-selling novel "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War," the story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

Schwarzenegger Reprising TERMINATOR Role - Good or Bad?

You knew Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to reprise his role as The Terminator in the fifth film, right?

Ever since Arnold attached himself to Terminator 5, it was apparent that he would be back to reprise his role as the futuristic killing machine. So why is this all of a sudden news? Because Arnold said so. In a recent interview he said he would be playing the Terminator and that the plan is to start shooting the film next year. Here's what he said in a recent interview with TheArnoldFans.com...

I'm very happy that the studios want me to be in 'Terminator 5' and to star as the Terminator...we start shooting in January and I'm also going to do 'King Conan'. To play that role and also to do another 'Twins' movie. I feel very proud of that. I feel very happy and I'm looking forward to doing those films."

There's no new information here unless for some reason you didn't think Arnold was really going to star on the movie. But in all honesty how good would a Terminator film be without Arnold Schwarzenegger? Oh yeah, Terminator Salvation, not good at all.

I know he's in his 60s, but I think he'll still be able to pull it off. I'm curious to see how they handle the age aspect of it. Maybe they will digitally make him younger like Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I'm happy that Arnold will be back to reprise his iconic role, hopefully the filmmakers, whoever they might be, will develop a solid story for it.

What are your thoughts on Schwarzenegger coming back as the Terminator?

PACIFIC RIM - New Featurette Focuses on Jaeger Development

With Man of Steel and Pacific Rim, Warner Bros. is going to have a great year for epic action films. I was equally excited for both of those films, and I just have to wait a little longer for Pacific Rim. The studio has released another featurette that explores the development of the massive robotic Jaegers featured in the movie. Director Guillermo del Toro wanted each one to have its own attitude and personality, and as you've seen, he definitely succeeded in that. The movie hits theaters on July 12th! Bring it on!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

John C. Reilly playing Ronan The Accuser in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

John C. Reilly's role has been revealed in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and he will be playing Ronan "The Accuser." It was originally rumored he would be playing a character named Rhomann Dey, who was described as the human agent who would serve as a go-between guy that keeps the Guardians in line and reporting to S.H.I.E.L.D. about their activities. But when Glenn Close was cast in a similar sounding role, questions were raised on who Reilly was actually going to play in the film. That question has now been answered.

The character was introduced in Fantastic Four, and he's a Kree villain whose powers include superhuman strength, endurance, speed and reflexes, shielded by an exoskeleton armor suit can make him invisible. He also wields the “universal weapon,” which kind of looks like Thor’s hammer.

One of the big things about the character is that he's also been portrayed as the son of Thanos, also known as the Avatar of Death. Thanos was introduced to the Marvel cinematic universe in The Avengers and is rumored to be the main villain in Guardians Of The Galaxy

This will be an interesting character for Reilly to play, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with it. The James Gunn-directed movie also stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Karen Gillan, Benico Del Toro and Glenn Close. The movie will be released on August 1st, 2014.

What do you think of the casting of this character? Do you think Reilly is right for the part? He's a great actor, so I don't see why he wouldn't be able to pull it off.

Here's some more information on the character from Marvel. I'm sure a lot of this will be changed to fit in with Marvel's universe because as you know Fantastic Four will not be a part of it.

Ronan was born into one of the leading Kree aristocratic families on Hala. After completing his education he was accepted into the ranks of the Accuser Corps, where he quickly rose through the ranks. Eventually he was promoted by the Supreme Intelligence to the rank of Supreme Public Accuser.

One of Ronan's missions was to punish the Fantastic Four when they defeated a Sentry left on Earth. But when he traveled to Earth and faced the four heroes, he was soon forced to use his own weapon on himself, giving himself the same sentence that he intended to mete out upon them. Unable to seek revenge due to the Supremor's orders, Ronan joined with Imperial Minister Zarek to depose the Supremor but was defeated by the Avengers.

Later Ronan made another attack against the Four when he attempted to gain possession of a Universal Power Core from Uatu The Watcher's house. With the aid of a mind-controlled Invisible Woman he was able to breach the dome but was only able to obtain the plans to one of them.

After a failed attempt to absorb Ego into himself, Ronan returned to his post as the Supreme Public Accuser and is helping the Supremor evolve those Kree who were able to avoid being turned into Ruul.

David Goyer Talks New Batman in JUSTICE LEAGUE and MAN OF STEEL 2

$

It was recently revealed that Dark Knight and Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer will be writing scripts for the Man of Steel sequel and Justice League. As much as I enjoyed Man of Steel, I have to say one of it's major weak points was the script, so I'm not completely 100% confident in Goyer taking on these next two superhero films.

While Goyer has been doing press for Man of Steel, he's been answering questions about what his plans for these next two movies are. He revealed in an interview with Hey U Guys that the new Justice League movie would most definitely feature a new Batman and not Christian Bale, which is a rumor that was already debunked awhile back, but I guess it need more debunking. Here's what he said.

It would be disingenuous to say Warner Bros doesn’t hope that this would be the starting point for a shared universe. And Zack has said that Bruce Wayne exists in this universe. It would be a different Bruce Wayne from Chris’ [Nolan] Dark Knight trilogy, and it would be disingenuous to say that Zack and I haven’t had various conversations on set, around ‘what if’ and ‘moving forward’.

That having been said, it’s all going to depend on the next few weeks. Warner Bros has hopes that there will be more Man Of Steel films, and that this will be the beginning of a shared universe. We could meet Batman, or Wonder Woman, or the Justice League in these movies. But they all hinge on box office reception.

I'm pretty sure that a Superman sequel will be made, and I've been saying for awhile that if they do, it would be a great opportunity to introduce Batman. I want that Batman and Superman team up movie. Goyer goes on to say,

I think Warner Bros has seen – and Chris deserves the biggest credit for this – that we were able to revitalise Batman and put it into the first billion dollar superhero film. And they’re hoping that Superman will be revistalised as well. And if we can do Batman and Superman, then maybe we can move on to Wonder Woman, and The Flash, and characters like that.

Hopefully they can figure it all out and finally get some more good DC comics movies made. I think Man of Steel is a solid starting point: they don't need to reboot it again, but there's still a lot of room for improvement.

Goyer also talked with CraveOnline about Lex Luthor appearing in the Man of Steel universe, saying,

If Lex is going to exist in the world, we would presumably have to give him the same treatment that we gave Lois Lane in the first film, which is make him a credible character. [...] He’s gotta be a man of incredible intelligence, and presumably a man of incredible wealth and incredible resources.

I'm curious to see the direction they end up taking Superman, and how they set up their DC cinematic universe. I don't know when or if they'll ever reach the level of awesomeness that Marvel has attained, but we'll see.

This is an awesome, stylishly made retro short film called Metaman. It was created by Yoann DurandYannick Sroussi, and Julien Lenoury. It has a very heavy 80s feel to it, and at the same time is still has a very slick looking modern feel to it. The film has a really cool visual style, and it even has kind of a Drive type mood. Here's the synopsis:

Planet Earth is invaded by the evil organisation known as "The Triangle Gang", who wants to establish terror and rule our planet. Driving to their first target of destruction, the Triangle Gang doesn't know that they will have to reckon with Metaman Gatsu, the last cosmo-fighter and defender of humanity.

Enjoy the short!

DARK SOULS II Impressions - E3 2013

Demon Souls and its spiritual successor Dark Souls are infamous in the gaming industry for their dark action and unforgiving difficulty. This year at E3 I was able to get an exclusive look at the next installment in the series, Dark Souls II.

The main point the presenter wanted to get across was that the game will be very hard. I figured this was a given considering its pedigree, but the presenter was adamant.

“This game is very hard...it will ruthlessly kick your ass when you get it.”

To illustrate this point, they had the head of QA for Dark Souls II playing the game while we observed and asked questions. We watched him die. Over and over again.

Dark Souls II will be using a new engine, and the hands-on stations were running a PC build of the game. It was gorgeous. The light effects were dramatic and realistic, becoming obscured by your character’s own clothing as you moved around the environments. In dark sections where your character is all but required to carry a torch, the lighting engine shines. Stark shadows are cast by every object, which leads to some very tense encounters.

Character generation in Dark Souls II will be different from the first game.  Rather than having a list of classes to choose from, there will be a sort of personality test that determines your personal fighting style and then builds your character using that information. Other games have done this in the past, like Ogre Battle 64 and Fallout 3, but we will have to wait and see how effective the system is. When I asked if it will be possible to transfer character data over from Dark Souls I, the presenter hedged, declined to answer, then suspiciously acknowledged that it was a good question. What this actually means is a point of speculation, but I hope it means there is a way to transfer some semblance of your character data between games.

The presenter also told us a few smaller details that will be changed in Dark Souls II, like the addition of dual weapon wielding, being able to teleport to and from any bonfire from the beginning of the game, and improved enemy AI, all of which are welcome additions to the game.

Dark Souls II looks to be a capable installment to the Dark Souls franchise with a few much needed additions, and some other interesting ones. The hands on gameplay was a lot of fun, and I am definitely looking forward to its release in March, 2014 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Adam Sandler to Star in Supernatural Comedy HELLO GHOST

Adam Sandler is going to be working with Harry Potter director Chris Columbus in developing a supernatural comedy called Hello Ghost, which - surprise, surprise - is a remake of a Korean film.

Sandler will produce and star in the film, while Columbus is set to direct it. The story centers on a man who, "after attempting to kill himself, is plagued by the arrival of four ghosts. They won't leave him in peace until he helps them amend their past by granting them one wish."

I've never seen the original film, but the Korean media company behind it are involved with it and will co-produce. Karen Croner (Admission) wrote the script for the remake. I hope it turns out to be a good film, it sounds like it could be fun. We'll see though, Sandler hasn't made a good movie in a long time.

Columbus is also looking to direct a feature film adaptation of the short film Pixels, which should make for a great film. Sandler is currently working on the romantic comedy Blended with Drew Barrymore, and will next be seen in Grown Ups 2.

Do you think there's still hope for Sandler to start making good films again?

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. GHOST IN THE SHELL: ARISE - Watch the First 8-Minutes!

The first 8-minutes of the new Ghost in the Shell: Arise anime series has been released online! I like what I've seen of this series so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the story plays out. This is a four part series that reveals the origin of Motoko Kusanagi, a.k.a. The Major, and how the Section 9 team came together.

The story is "set in 2027, one year after the end of the fourth non-nuclear war. Newport City is still reeling from the war's aftermath when it suffers a bombing caused by a self-propelled mine. Then, a military officer implicated in arms-dealing bribes is gunned down.

"During the investigation, Public Security Section 9's Daisuke Aramaki encounters Motoko Kusanagi, the cyborg wizard-level hacker assigned to the military's Secret Unit 501. Batou, a man with the "eye that does not sleep," suspects that Kusanagi is the one behind the bombing. The Niihama Prefectural Police detective Togusa is pursuing his own dual cases of the shooting death and a prostitute's murder. Motoko herself is being watched by Secret Unit 501's head Kurutsu and cyborg agents."

The new series was directed by Kise Kazuchika, who has worked on other projects such as Blood: The Last Vampire, Dennou Coil, and the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchises, as well as previous Ghost In The Shell projects. Mardock Scramble creator Ubukata Tow wrote the screenplay.

Each part in the series will be 50 minutes long. It's also going to get a short, limited theatrical release in June. It's scheduled to be released in Japan on Blu-ray and DVD on July 26th.

STAR WARS LAND Coming to Walt Disney World?!

After Disney got the rights to Star Wars, we knew that somewhere down the line they were finally going to develop the Star Wars Land theme park attraction that has been rumored for years. Well, guess what? It looks like they might actually be moving forward with it.

Theme Park Insider is reporting that a Star Wars themed land will be part of a revamp that is being planned for Disney's Hollywood Studios at The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

TheForce.net has some addition information that reveals that this will include an expansion of the existing "Star Tours" ride, as well as a number of interactive environments like a full-scale Mos Eisley Cantina. The go on to say that we can expect to "see new levels added to Star Tours and some more interactive attractions, possibly an additional ride." The added that most of "the expansion will be environments and character meet-and-greet areas."

It will take five years to get this all up and running, so I guess I'll have to postpone my Florida trip until 2018. However, the site also says that a year could be shaved off that timeline if Disney decides to ramp things up fast. This mean that they could get it done by 2017, which is the 40th anniversary of the franchise and could line up with the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII.

ONLY GOD FORGIVES - New Trailer and 3 Character Posters

I've been seeing a lot of mixed reviews for Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn's action thriller, Only God Forgives. I honestly think I've read more bad than good reviews. That's discouraging because I was actually looking forward to see this movie. I'm still going to see it, I just hope it's better than what I've read and heard. A new trailer for the film has been released with some new footage, and it looks good! But trailers are cut to sell you on seeing a film even if it's not good. I've also included three new electrifyingly neon character posters for the film.

In the film Gosling plays a character named Julian, who "lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly."

The movie will be released on July 19th. To read a detailed statement on the film from the director, click here. It includes a lot of great insight. Check out this trailer:

I was truly stunned by how spectacular this Hawkgirl is. I've seen a lot of Hawkgirl cosplay, and none of it is really that great. Artist Kira Kouture really nailed the character with great photography by BGZ Studios. I've included photos of the mask being made. I'm starting to think sculpted masks are the only way to do great cosplay.
