Want to get a little taste of what it's like to make a Pixar film? Here's a collection of behind the scenes video B-roll footage for Monsters University that gives us a little glimpse into the world of Pixar. The footage includes artists working on the character designs and animation, the actors performing their roles, the musical score being composed, the director directing, and more. I love seeing this kind of stuff. If you're a fan of Pixar and want a look at what it's like for them to make a movie, then you'll enjoy this.

Monsters University comes out on June 21st!

Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer.  The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and award-winning composer Randy Newman  (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). The film opens in U.S. theaters on June 21, 2013, and will be shown in 3D in select theaters.

We're all aware that many people in Hollywood share an uncanny resemblance. We're not about to rattle off some tired list of celebrity twins. Instead, we take things up a notch with Hollywood Doppelgänger Math, a new series from GeekTyrant that is sure to change the way you look at actors and the roles they play. To make the cut, a person has to look like the sum of at least two other people. For this first collection, we focused on equations that resulted in young and/or up-and-coming actors. We have also included a list of other connections the actors share.

  • All three have played secondary love interests in popular sitcoms; Amy Adams in The Office, Alison Brie in Community, and Alexandra Daddario in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Beast Fights Magneto in New X-MEN Set Photos!

X-Men: Days of Future Past is deep in production, and I've been enjoying the photos that director Bryan Singer has tweeted out. Here are a few more photos from the set that I'm sure you'd love to see! They feature Nicholas Hoult as Beast fighting Michael Fassbender as Magneto. It looks like a pretty intense scene. I'm sure a lot of the X-men characters are going to want to beat the hell out of Magneto.

The movie is set to be released on July 18th, 2014. Thanks to Fan-Girl.org for the photos (via CBM).

The movie also stars Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Evan Peters and Boo Boo Stewart.

The film is based on the comic book storyline "Days of Future Past," which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne's run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.

WHO Watch 2013: Neil Gaiman on Why Unknown Doctors Are Best

Acclaimed sci-fi novelist and writer of Doctor Who episodes Neil Gaiman thinks the new Doctor should be another no-name, according to a recent post on Tumblr. When asked what he thought about Sir Ian McKellen taking the role he replied:

I actually like it when The Doctor is a relatively unknown actor, or one without one huge role that made them famous. A star, like Sir Ian, brings all the other roles they’ve ever played to the table when they act.

He went on further outlining the level of expectation that comes with giving well known talent a job such as this:

Seeing John Hurt as the (Spoiler) at the end of the Name of the Doctor, meant that this was a certain type of part with a certain amount of gravitas, and you understood that John Hurt was bringing everything with it (including being John Hurt), just as Derek Jacobi did as the Master.

Gaiman then closed with his ideal scenario for the dream actor he'd like to see in the role:

I want to see The Doctor. I want to be taken by surprise. I want to squint at a photo of the person online and go “but how can that be The Doctor?”

So unknowns are cool and all. It would certainly be nice to follow tradition. But what about when talent does take part in great sci-fi?! Take...well, Gaiman, for example. His episode when the TARDIS becomes a living breathing individual is in my top five of episodes for sure, and his ushering in of a new age of Cybermen was a much needed revamp to a stale and laughable lot of villains. So as much as I agree with Gaiman, I have to say that he himself held a certain kind of "gravitas" when he jumped on board, and we all loved it. What say you to that Mr. Gaiman?

This latest series of set photos features Chris Evan's as Steve Rogers fighting Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier. This kind of looks like a scene played out in a piece of concept art previously released only Rogers is without his Shield in the pics. He must have lost it in the fight.

V/H/S/2 "Safe Haven" Poster Art

$

V/H/S/2 is currently available for viewing on VOD and iTunes. If you haven't seen it, I highly suggest that you do so soon! This was an amazing horror anthology, and if you're a fan of the horror genre, you're going to love it. Even though I loved the first V/H/S movie, this sequel is far superior in every way.

Here's a poster for one of the segments in the film, called Safe Haven. It was actually my favorite one in the movie, and it was absolutely insane. It was directed by Gareth Evans, who directed The Raid: Redemption. This poster art does a good job of summing up everything this segment is about.

Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.

From the demented minds that brought you last year’s V/H/S comes S-VHS, an all-new anthology of dread, madness, and gore. This follow-up ventures even further down the demented path blazed by its predecessor, discovering new and terrifying territory in the genre. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes—a second generation with no loss of quality.

This horror anthology sequel has several segments, which are directed by Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), Gareth Huw Evans (The Raid: Redemption) and Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre), Edúardo Sanchez and Gregg Hale (Blair Witch Project), and Adam Wingard (You’re Next). Then there's a wraparound segment directed by You’re Next writer Simon Barrett.

Jennifer Lawrence Joins THE RULES OF INHERITANCE

It's been awesome to see Jennifer Lawrence blow up as an actress since Winter's Bone. I remember seeing that movie and thinking that she's going to be the next big star. Now look at her! Making all kinds of great movies and winning an Oscar.

The actress is now set to star in a film called The Rules Of Inheritance, which is being directed by Susanne Bier, who just made the film Serena with Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. The script for the film was written by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, Shame).

The film is based on Claire Bidwell Smith’s memoir about "a young woman who loses her family, but finds herself in the process." Sounds like another one of those films that could earn Lawrence another Oscar nomination. Here's a more detailed description of the book:

A coming-of-age story that is both heartbreaking and exhilarating.

In this astonishing debut, Claire Bidwell Smith, an only child, is just fourteen years old when both of her charismatic parents are diagnosed with cancer. What follows is a coming-of-age story that is both heartbreaking and exhilarating. As Claire hurtles towards loss she throws herself at anything she thinks might help her cope with the weight of this harsh reality: boys, alcohol, traveling, and the anonymity of cities like New York and Los Angeles. By the time she is twenty-five years old they are both gone and Claire is very much alone in the world.

Claire's story is less of a tragic tale and more of a remarkable lesson on how to overcome some of life's greatest hardships. Written with suspense and style, and bursting with love and adventure, The Rules of Inheritance vividly captures the deep grief and surprising light of a young woman forging ahead on a journey of loss that humbled, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

The movie is being produced by FilmNation’s Glen Basner and Aaron Ryder, and here's a statement from them:

We are thrilled to be working with the dream team of Jennifer Lawrence, Susanne Bier, Abi Morgan and Bruce Cohen. We have no doubt that this inspirational and hopeful book will be turned into an emotionally powerful movie that audiences around the world will fall in love with.

Kiefer Sutherland to Voice Snake in New METAL GEAR SOLID Game

24 star Kiefer Sutherland is about to take his career to a whole new level by voicing Snake in Konami's next installment of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain! He has the perfect voice for this character! I'm surprised they didn't cast him in the role sooner.

Sutherland will replace screenwriter David Hayter (X-Men, X2), who has voiced the character since 1998. The announcement came during a pre-E3 presentation. According to Konomi, they reason for the cast change is because the character, "a legendary infiltrator and saboteur, would require a deeper voice than before."

Konami's Hideo Kojima added that “the themes are a little different from previous games in the series. We’re taking on some very heavy subjects, such as race and revenge. This makes the tone much darker. As a result, I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice, rather than words." To accomplish this, Sutherland will also perform the motion and facial capture for the new game.

Konomi also revealed that Metal Gear Solid V takes place in 1984, when Snake is 49 years old. They reiterated that they "needed someone who could genuinely convey the facial and vocal qualities of a man in his late 40s. It’s different from anything we’ve done before."

I've enjoyed playing the Metal Gear Solid games, and I'm excited to see how this next game is going to turn out.

STAR WARS Producer to Develop Sci-Fi Film R'HA

A few months ago, we posted an awesome sci-fi short film, called R'ha. Well, Star Wars producer Rick McCallum is going to develop the project as a feature film. It will be his first sci-fi film project since working with George Lucas. Star Wars: Clone Wars producer Steve Tzirlin will produce the film with him.

I loved the short, and it should make for a great movie. The story follows a nonhuman alien from a race called the R’Ha, who defend a cluster of solar systems from a menacing attack.

The director of the short, Kaleb Lechowski, will also direct the film from a script written by Matthew Graham, who worked on the series Life on Mars, as well as the live-action Star Wars that will never happen. McCullum revealed in a statement what attracted him to the project saying,

What inspires me and our team is that there are no humans whatsoever in the film, and yet Kaleb has come up with a world that is so engaging and so alive and so real that it really is very different from anything else I have seen in the sci-fi world.

In case you missed the short, or you want a reminder of what it is, you can check it out below.

If you're looking to get your Man of Steel high for the day, Warner Bros. has released a new TV spot, two clips, and banner for the film to feed your excitement. Seven more days to go, and the anticipation is killing me!

This clip features Superman punching the living hell out of Zod. It may be considered SPOILERISH.

For the clip skip to the 1:00 minute mark.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

The short was created by Marlène Beaube, Maxime Delalande, Clément Doranlo, Nadya Mira, and Thibaud Gayral de Luca, who are in their first year of studies at Gobelins School of the Image. For first year students, they made a really fantastic short. Enjoy the show!

Mel Gibson to Play Villain in THE EXPENDABLES 3?

While Sylvester Stallone was setting up The Expendables 3, he asked his Twitter followers what they thought of the possibility of Mel Gibson directing the movie. For the most part, the response was positive, and a lot of people would have liked to see him do it. Stallone went on to hire Patrick Hughes to direct the movie. But that doesn't mean Gibson isn't going to be a part of it. In fact, he could end up playing the villain!

The news comes from Showbiz411 who says, "I’m told that Gibson will appear in The Expendables 3, the third installment of Sylvester Stallone’s shoot em up series that also features his former Planet Hollywood buddies and partners Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. There’s no confirmation, but the source seemed serious."

The site goes on to say that if the rumor is true, he will play the villain, which is great! It's no secret that Mel Gibson's career has taken a hit due to his exploits, but the guy is still incredibly talented, and I hope he starts making awesome films again.

What do you think of the possibility of Gibson playing a villain in The Expendables 3

Awkward But Awesome Saxophone Cover of the SONIC Theme

First, hats off to XDHNoisePollution for an excellent cover of one of the greatest video game themes of all time. Seriously. From the bottom of my heart, I enjoyed the entire thing. Second, I'm absolutely sure it wasn't your intention, but the music video for it is hilariously awkward. It's like I'm watching a music video from the early 90s (admittedly fitting considering the theme), and the shirt changes do it no justice. Still, well done.

Several months ago, someone photoshopped a Doctor Who Cyberman to look like Iron Man. It was a clever idea that was roughly executed. I thought "I can do it better," and now I literally have. Some day soon I'll change the other Cybermen into different marks of Iron Man armor.

I've included the original side-by-side with my version for comparison. As you can see, I changed the cyberman to look like the more intricate Mark XLII.
