Patrick Stewart on X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

It's great that Patrick Stewart is back reprising his role as Professor X in X-Men: Days of Future Past. I wasn't sure if we'd ever see him again after he was killed off in X-Men 3: The Last Stand. He wasn't sure either! Thank goodness for time travel. Here's what he had to say this weekend at Comicpalooza:

I think it is going to certainly be the X-Men of all X-Men pictures, and one doesn't want to tempt fate, but perhaps also the blockbuster of 2014. It was a wonderful experience to reunited with those people.

It's been 6 or 7 years since X-Men 3, where you will recall that Charles Xavier was vaporized by whats-her-name, Jean Grey. And you're asking yourselves, 'If you were vaporized, how can you be in the next X-Men movie?' Anybody got any ideas how that came about?

At that point an audience member yelled out "Time travel," to which Stewart responded,

Yeah, that's exactly it. I guess. There will be an explanation, but it was a little puzzling for me because I thought my X-Men days were over. So, it's something to look forward to.

He went on to say that he is finished filming his parts of the movie and revealed that Hugh Jackman will remain on set for the rest of the production which is set to wrap up in August. I've included a video of Stewart discussing the film below.

The movie also stars Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto and Evan Peters. It is set to be released on July 18th, 2014.

The buzz I'm hearing is Man of Steel is amazing. People have been blown away by what Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder have done with it. I can't wait to see it for myself. Apparently the emotional core of the film mixed with the insanely epic action sequences will make this the best movie of the year. Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14th! Eleven more days to go, and here's four new photos.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Trailer for HBO's THE NEWSROOM Season 2

"Together, they stand alone."

HBO has released a new promo trailer for season 2 of The Newsroom. I loved the first season, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this next one plays out. Creator Aaron Sorkin said that this is going to be very different from the first season as it will focus on one single event instead of multiple events that we saw play out during the first season. Sorkin explains, "The second season of The Newsroom has a different structure than the first season did -- there's one story that goes through the entire season."

He goes on to talk about the characters saying they are "being prepared for a deposition they're going to have to give in a wrongful termination suit" about something called "Operation Genoa" that will apparently unfold in flashbacks over the 12-episode arc.

The trailer features the song "Can't Pretend" by Tom Odell.

Trailer for the Brie Larson Film SHORT TERM 12

Usually when I post a trailer for an indie drama like this film Short Term 12, there are a few people that ask why we're posting it because it's "not geeky". I'm a movie geek, and I do like watching other kinds of films other than superhero, comic book, and sci-fi. As much as I love those genres, there are great stories out in the world that need to be told through film, and this film seems like one of them.

The movie was written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and the story is "told through the eyes of Grace (Brie Larson), a twenty-something supervisor at a facility for at-risk teenagers. Passionate and tough, Grace is a formidable caretaker of the kids in her charge – and in love with her long-term boyfriend and co-worker, Mason (John Gallagher Jr.). But Grace's own difficult past – and the surprising future that suddenly presents itself – throw her into unforeseen confusion, made all the sharper with the arrival of a new intake at the facility: a gifted but troubled teenage girl with whom Grace has a charged connection. While the subject matter is complex, this lovingly realized film finds truth – and humor – in unexpected places."

One of the reasons why I think I connected to this subject matter so much is because there's a story similar to it that I hope to tell one day. The movie also stars Kaitlyn Dever, Rami Malek and Keith Stanfield

Funny Trailer for Clancy Brown's Exorcism Comedy HELLBENDERS

Check out this incredibly fun first trailer for the upcoming exorcism horror comedy, Hellbenders. The movie has an incredibly cool cast that includes Clancy Brown, Clifton Collins Jr.Andre RoyoRobyn RikoonLarry Fessenden and Dan Fogler. The music and sound mix in the trailer are temporary, but all in all the movie looks amazingly funny.

The R-rated 3D film "follows the Augustine Interfaith Order of Hellbound Saints (Brooklyn Parish), highly secretive and profoundly blasphemous men of God, as they battle demonic forces too terrible to be cast out by traditional Vatican-approved methods."

There's a fine line with horror and comedy. It's not easy to pull off, but it looks like director J.T. Petty did a hell of a good job! The movie first premiered in the Midnight Madness category at the Toronto Film Festival in 2012, and it generated some positive buzz. There's no release date yet for the film, but I want to see it!

Leonardo DiCaprio to Play Villain in THE SECRET SERVICE?

Leonardo DiCaprio could be headed back into villain territory in Matthew Vaughn's new big screen comic book adaptation of The Secret Service. According to Contact Music, the actor is in talks to join the film, in which he would face off against Super Spy Colin Firth, who was previously cast in the project.

The source of the information says ''Leo is the perfect bad guy. Comic book films aren't usually associated with him but this could be a great fit.'' DiCaprio was amazing in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. After seeing him in that, I hoped he would play more dark villainous characters. Hopefully this bit of news is true because it would be fun to see him in a comic book film. As of right now this is just a rumor, but I hope it turns out to be true.

The Secret Service has been described as Vaughn and Mark Millar's version of Marvel's  S.H.I.E.L.D. The story follows a James Bond-type super spy named Uncle Jack who works for MI6. He ends up taking his slacker nephew Gary under his wing, and mentors him in tradecraft in the hopes that Gary can change and become an MI6 agent.

Last I heard, Vaughn and the studio were trying to get Aaron Taylor-Johnson on board as the slacker nephew. It was also reported awhile back that Mark Hamill had joined the cast of the film as well.

This seems like it's shaping up to be a great film project!

Everyone wants a piece of that Milky Way candy bar in This is the End. We've seen a few different clips and trailers that feature the classic candy bar. Now we have the full conversation revolving around what these guys are going to do with the Milky Way. There's so much build up and talk about the Milky Way that it's obviously setting up some kind of hilarious comedic punchline. I can't wait to see what the fate of the Milky Way will be! The comedy comes out on June 12th, and I keep hearing more and more great things about it!

The comedy This Is The End follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

Nathan Fillion on the Prospects of a SERENITY Sequel

2005's Serenity was intended to give fans some closure to Joss Whedon's canceled TV show Firefly. Created on a modest movie budget, it pleased the fans and opened up the world of Firefly to people who had not watched the show. Drew McWeeny of HitFix had an opportunity to interview Nathan Fillion during a Monsters University press event.

In the interview, Fillion is both realistically dismissive and open to the opportunity.

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

It has been 8 years since Serenity came out and as time marches on a sequel seems unlikely. Then again we have Tron Legacy that was 25 years later than the first. 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture was 10 years after the original series ended. This places another Serenity movie in the realm of possible if the fans really fight for it.

Who knows maybe Joss Whedon will Kickstarter the movie.

Everything Wrong With SUPERMAN RETURNS

Bryan Singer's 2006 film Superman Returns was a mediocre success and not the action filled movie fans were looking for. It currently ranks as my 3rd favorite Superman movie (until Man of Steel comes out). Singer took a big risk with the tone of the story, and while I respect him for trying something new it didn't pay off in the way I had hoped.

The folks at CinemeSins have created an "Everything Wrong With" video for Superman Returns; a movie fans already tore apart themselves.

Where does Superman Returns rank in your list of Superman movies?

DC Comics' FABLES getting Feature Film Adaptation

DC Comics and Vertigo’s comic book series Fables is finally coming to the big screen! I was wondering when they would get around to adapting this thing. Harry Potter producer David Hayman is working on developing with the film, and Nikolaj Arcel has been hired to direct it. I'm not familiar with any of the director's work, but he made a Danish film called A Royal Affair

Fables is an incredibly cool comic that was created by Bill Willingham in 2002. The story centers on several fairytale characters such as Snow White, Cinderella, the Big Bad Wolf, Little Boy Blue and others who are kicked out of their world and now live in a secret pocket of New York City. Jeremy Slater is set to write the script for the film. Slater hasn't done much, but he's also currently working on the Fantastic Four reboot.

This is a great comic that is sure to make for a fantastic film franchise, especially since the fantasy genre is huge right now. Back in 2004, Warner Bros. tried to develop  the comic into a movie with the Jim Henson Company, but obviously it never happened. Then back in 2008 ABC was going to turn it into a series, but ended up developing Once Upon a Time instead.

I love the comic, and I hope this movie lives up to the epic potential that it has. Here's a description of the comic:

When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile. Disguised among the "mundys," their name for normal citizens of modern-day New York, these magical characters created their own secret society that they call Fabletown. From their exclusive luxury apartment buildings on Manhattan's Upper West Side, these creatures of legend must fight for their survival in the new world.

FAST AND FURIOUS 6 - Explosive Special Effects Breakdown

Fast and Furious 6 was easily one of the most entertaining movies of the year. I'm not saying it was a perfect film. I'm just saying it was really fun to watch regardless of how ridiculous it was. You should know when watching a movie like this you have to check out of reality.

Wired has released a great special effects video breakdown that gives us a look at how director Justin Lin filmed one of Vin Diesel's last minute climatic escapes from a "massive, crashing and exploding Antonov aircraft." Visual effects house Double Negative created the scene, and it's so cool to see how they brought this sequence to life.

Paramount Pictures has released a music video called "Isolated" and a new TV spot and for their upcoming zombie epic World War Z. Each contains new footage from the movie, and the music video gives us a better sense of the enormous scale of this zombie apocalypse. I've been hearing more and more good things about this movie. I'm actually really surprised by that, so I can't wait to see it for myself.

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop a pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

The Marc Forster-directed action thriller also stars Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox, and David Morse. It comes out on June 21st.

Willam Shatner took some time during his recent visit to Denver Comic-Con to read the classic book Where the Wild Things Are to a room full of kids that were assembled in the Comic Book Classroom Corral. It's a little odd watching Shatner interact with kids, but he's the man, and it was awesome!

This is part of a Colorado based literacy project called the Comic Book Classroom, which aims to promote literacy and storytelling to underprivileged and needy children in the area, and to help young readers develop problem-solving skills in their everyday lives. Spielberg and Day-Lewis May Reteam for THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

Lincoln director Steven Spielberg is looking at possibly reteaming with Daniel Day-Lewis for a new film called Thank You For Your Service

The film is based on an upcoming book of the same name, which tells the story of soldiers who are dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder following their wartime experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The news comes from Deadline who says that Jason Hall is lined up to write the script for the film. This is the same screenwriter who wrote Spielberg's next project American Sniper, which stars Bradley Cooper. That film is based on the memoir of the late Chris Kyle, who came to record the highest number of sniper kills for an American.

The report says that Service is just a "potential reteam" for Spielberg and Day-Lewis, so there's still a chance it might not happen. If they do team up, I have no doubt that they will deliver an incredible and powerful film. I'd love to see these two talents work together again.

Here's the description of the book:

No journalist has reckoned with the psychology of war as intimately as David Finkel. In The Good Soldiers, his bestselling account from the front lines of Baghdad, Finkel shadowed the men of the 2-16 Infantry Battalion as they carried out the infamous surge, a grueling fifteen-month tour that changed all of them forever. Now Finkel has followed many of those same men as they’ve returned home and struggled to reintegrate—both into their family lives and into American society at large.

In the ironically named Thank You for Your Service, Finkel writes with tremendous compassion not just about the soldiers but about their wives and children. Where do soldiers belong after their homecoming? Is it possible, or even reasonable, to expect them to rejoin their communities as if nothing has happened? And in moments of hardship, who are soldiers expected to turn to if they feel alienated by the world they once lived in? These are the questions Finkel faces as he revisits the brave but shaken men of the 2-16.

More than a work of journalism, Thank You for Your Service is an act of understanding—shocking but always riveting, unflinching but deeply humane, it takes us inside the heads of those who must live the rest of their lives with the chilling realities of war.
