Chris Columbus in Talks to Direct PIXELS

$

Sony Pictures has been slowly moving forward on the big screen adaptation of the short film "Pixels." The last we heard, Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon was brought on as an executive producer alongside Adam Sandler and his Happy Madison Productions. At the time of that announcement, the director of the short film Patrick Jean was attached to direct the movie, but that doesn't look like it worked out because now Harry Potter director/producer Chris Columbus is in talks to helm the project. Jean is still on board as an executive producer, though.

The actual "Pixels" short was a huge hit online; it's just incredibly entertaining. It was released a couple of years ago, and I've been looking forward to seeing it as a feature film. According to THR, the studio is looking to turn the film into a "Ghostbusters-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world." There's a lot of potential, and I think Columbus is a solid choice to bring it to life. The last film he directed was Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, which, as you know, wasn't his best work. I still think he's a solid filmmaker, though.

What do you think about Columbus taking on "Pixels"? Check out the short below.

Here are eight minimalist poster designs that were created for Jeff Wadlow's incredible looking movie Kick-Ass 2. The posters include Hit Girl, Doctor Gravity, Mother Russia, Colonel Stars and Stripes, Black Death, Night Bitch, The Mother F******, and Kick-Ass.

The posters were created by the advertising agency OSKOUI+OSKOUI, Inc., and they came with the following note:

Since each hero and villain is so distinct, we had a shot at creating minimalist posters showcasing each of their identities.

The movie invades theaters on August 16th. To catch up on all of our Kick-Ass 2 news click here

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol.

When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Matt Smith Leaving DOCTOR WHO!

Oh no! Matt Smith is officially leaving Doctor Who! I'm sad. I really loved Smith as the 11th Doctor. The hunt is now on for Doctor number twelve. The actor will be back for only two more episodes. Those include the upcoming 50th Anniversary Special in November, and the 2013 Christmas Special, which is where his regeneration will happen.

Here's what Smith had to say in a statement:

When you gotta go, you’ve gotta go. Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans. It’s been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he’s a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor. The fans are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show – and speculate more about the future of the show – in a way that I have never seen before, [their] dedication is truly remarkable. I'm incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years. Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I’m back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special. It’s been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors, and helm the TARDIS for a spell with ‘the ginger, the nose and the impossible one’. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank you guys.

Wow, I knew there was a chance he might not come back, but I was really hoping he'd stick around for at least one more season. The series showrunner Steven Moffat added,

Every day, on every episode, in every set of rushes, Matt Smith surprised me: the way he’d turn a line, or spin on his heels, or make something funny, or out of nowhere make me cry, I just never knew what was coming next. The Doctor can be clown and hero, often at the same time, and Matt rose to both challenges magnificently. And even better than that, given the pressures of this extraordinary show,he is one of the nicest and hardest-working people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Whatever we threw at him – sometimes literally – his behaviour was always worthy of the Doctor. But great actors always know when it’s time for the curtain call, so this Christmas prepare for your hearts to break, as we say goodbye to number Eleven. Thank you Matt – bow ties were never cooler. Of course, this isn’t the end of the story, because now the search begins. Somewhere out there right now – all unknowing, just going about their business – is someone who’s about to become the Doctor. A life is going to change, and Doctor Who will be born all over again. After 50 years, that’s still so exciting.

I love this show, and I'm excited to see who the 12th Doctor will be. I'm going to miss Smith's charming insanity though.

Will Smith Not Interested In Doing MEN IN BLACK 4

$

It has already been announced that Sony Pictures will be making a Men in Black 4, but it sounds like they may end up doing it without Will Smith. During a recent press event for After Earth, the actor was asked about the film, and he doesn't really seem that interested in reprising his role. I assumed that he and Tommy Lee Jones would come back, but here's what he told Collider,

Uh, y'know... I think three is enough for me. Three of anything is enough for me. We'll look at it and we'll consider it, but it feels like that it might be time to let someone else do that.

I've enjoyed the Men in Black franchise. All of them have been entertaining movies. It would be cool to see Smith reprise his role, but if he doesn't, it's one of those franchises I wouldn't mind seeing some new faces in. Smith did seem open to the idea of his son Jaden stepping into his shoes in the film, but that doesn't really make much sense to me, and it's one thing I don't want to see happen with the franchise.

When he uses the word "consider" I imagine that means he'll think about it when he finds out how much the studio is willing to pay him. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Would you care if Smith didn't comes back for the fourth film?

Dan Harmon Returns to COMMUNITY

Creator Dan Harmon will be back at the helm of NBC's Community. He will once again serve as showrunner for the upcoming fifth season. After some cryptic tweets, Harmon confirmed the long circulating rumors of his return by saying:

"Yes yes yes! I'm back I'm back I'm back. You can thank @joelmchale."

Last year, Harmon was replaced by David Guarascio and Moses Port (Just Shoot Me) after a highly publicized dispute with cast member Chevy Chase, who will not be back next season. I'm still puzzled as to why the network took Chase's side in the first place. After Harmon was forced off, it felt like salt on the wound when Chase was only back in a very diminished capacity, serving little to no purpose in the story lines.

The unofficial goal/motto of "six seasons and a movie" has a much more hopeful ring to it now. Last season, Community felt like a shell of its former self. I came in open minded, but after a few episodes I begrudgingly watched the rest of the season solely in support of the writers and the stellar ensemble cast. Harmon was and will thankfully once again be the heart and creative compass of the show.

Joel McHale, Donald Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong are expected to return as well for season five.

Mass Effect has been one of my favorite new IP's of this generation, and while I'm sad the Shepard trilogy has come to an end, I'm equally excited to see what is next for the universe. That said, I have seen some wonderful cosplay based on the franchise, far too many to contain to one post. That did not keep me from trying, however, so here are some of my favorites.

Warner Bros. has released a new 13-minute extended featurette for Man of Steel, and what's great about this is that it's loaded with more footage! It also includes interviews with the cast and crew and gives us an in-depth look at every aspect of the film ranging from story to costume.

I've been hearing more great things about this movie. I haven't seen it myself yet, but apparently it will be one of the best movies of the year. I have a feeling it will exceed my expectations.

Spider-Man Jumps for Joy and Graduates in New Set Photos

Marc Webb tweeted out a new photo of Spider-Man jumping over a NYPD police car while striking a classic Spidey pose. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been in production for 83 days. I've also included some photos from the set of Spider-Man graduating with Gwen Stacy. I'm looking forward to seeing Spider-Man back in action. His new costume looks great, and I'm sure it will look even better up on the big screen.

Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) finds, life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away – but that's a promise he just can't keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn, returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

The movie also stars Martin Sheen, Shailene Woodley ,Felicity Jones, B.J. Novak, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field, Chris Cooper ,and Colm Feore. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2nd, 2014.

The SHARKNADO is Coming!

Yes, Sharknado is a real movie. It comes from The Asylum, the production company that makes all those crappy knock-off films. The thing about this is, it looks and sounds so ridiculously over the top that I want to see it. If you haven't been able to figure out what the movie is about yet, it's about a tornado full of sharks. Here's the synopsis:

When a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace. And when the high-speed winds form tornadoes in the desert, nature’s deadliest killer rules water, land, and air.

This makes me laugh. I can't wait to see the trailer for this thing. It stars Tara Reid, Ian Zeiring, and John Heard

Hans Zimmer to Score Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR

$

Let's just assume that from here on out Hans Zimmer will score every movie that Christopher Nolan makes. I hope I don't come off as sounding like this is a bad thing, because it's not. I'm just saying it's not a surprise that he will be scoring Nolan's upcoming sci-fi film Interstellar. Zimmer is an incredible composer, his Man of Steel soundtrack is epic, and I'm sure he'll continue to do great things. In a recent interview with Collider, Zimmer was asked if he was scoring the film, and he confirmed saying,

I wrote something…and I’m writing that.  So, yes, we have started.

The film is based on a script written by Jonathan Nolan, and it stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine.

All we know about the story so far is that it's based on the scientific theories developed by Cal Tech physicist Kip Thorne and that the story follows a group of explorers who travel through a wormhole. It's also previously been described as "a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding."

Zack Snyder Confirms MAN OF STEEL Shared Universe Easter Egg

We've been hearing rumors for some time now that Man of Steel could tie in with a larger DC cinematic universe. This connected DC cinematic universe doesn't quite exist yet, but it seems like the studio is going to play around with it in Man of Steel. During an interview with Collider, director Zack Snyder confirms one of these shared universe Easter Eggs.

If you don't want it SPOILED for you then don't read Snyder's quote below. Though I think it's not technically a spoiler, it's just something to keep an eye out for in the film.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Here's what Snyder revealed:

The Wayne Enterprises logo is on a satellite that Zod destroys. I don't know [if this means they'll team up].

He's then asked if he would like to pair Superman and Batman in a movie, and this was his response:

Everything is interesting at this point. And don't forget that Lex is out there, doing who knows what...

It's a little thing, but it's one step that gets us closer to that Justice League movie we've all been waiting for. Better yet, maybe we'll get a Batman and Superman team-up film! I'd be more interested in that than seeing a Justice League movie.

Fun Video Features a Guy Chasing a Girl Through Classic 80s Films

Here's an upbeat music video called Rhianna (80's Chase Video) which follows Jon Marco as he chases down his dream girl through all of our favorite classic 1980s movies such as Back to the Future, E.T., Return of the Jedi, Tron and more.  I also loved the outtakes that play throughout the end credits.

There is a creepy charm to the video as the guy is chasing down a girl that obviously has no interest whatsoever in being with him. He's pretty much just scaring her away even more.
