Hugh Jackman Discusses Plot and Tone of THE WOLVERINE

$

In a recent interview with CNNHugh Jackman talks about The Wolverine. He discusses the plot and tone of the film saying that it's a little different and darker than the previous X-Men films that have been made.

I'm excited for this movie, and I think the trailers that have been released show off some great stuff. This is obviously going to be a more character focused film, which is exactly what The Wolverine needed. Here's what Jackman had to say,

[Wolverine's] back, and I couldn't be happier. I never in a million years would've thought (that) I'd still be playing this character (12 years later). It kind of really is shocking to me, but at the same time, it's such an instant gratitude, because I love this character.

He then goes on to talk about the character and how the film will be darker, different, but just as fun as the previously released films.

[Wolverine's] sort of interested in [the offer of mortality], because if your life is not great and there is a lot of regret and pain, would it be great to live on and on? Yes, ('The Wolverine') is a character piece, and I would say it may be a little darker in tone than the others, and it certainly feels a little different, (but) it's just as much fun. The action is probably in this is more inventive than we've ever had before.

He then addresses the inclusion Jean Grey in the film. He doesn't give away too much, but confirms that she does play a prominent role in the story.

I don't want to give away too much. She is there in the way that loved ones are always there ... in a very real way, she's there. (He) loses the love of his life, (and) we've seen that impact. He's one of those people where whenever he gets close to someone, bad things tend to happen. So in a way, not only for himself but for the world, he decides to just completely go off the reservation and sort of deny who he is and be like a recluse.

As for physically preparing for the part, he said:

Three hours a day [in the gym]. I had a mentor, Dwayne Johnson, the Rock. We're mates, and I said, 'Mate, I need to know what you do." And he said, "Tell me you've got six months? ... You need six months to do this." He told me the diet -- 6,000 calories -- (and that) you have to train like no one else. This is what I learned: When I started, I used to think, "You want to be bigger? You want to be in better shape? Train harder, train harder, train harder!" It's not not (that), it's the food. Seventy percent of the way you look is your diet, 30% is your training. So if there's anything you've got to concentrate on, it's the food.

I can't even imagine taking in 6,000 calories a day! It sure paid off for Jackman though. He's never looked so badass as Wolverine before. I can't wait to see him fight ninjas!

Warner Bros. Developing Film about NASA's SPACESUIT Design

Warner Bros. is developing a film called Spacesuit, which is based on the true story of the development of the first spacesuit that was created and used by NASA. They've hired Richard Cordiner to adapt the screenplay from the book by Nicholas de Monchaux. Here is some information on the book and the writer thanks to Deadline:

This tells the true story of the unsung heroes of the Apollo space program — a team of bra and girdle designers from Playtex who successfully built the iconic spacesuit that enabled Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to walk on the moon. This improbable band of outsiders — led by a former TV repairman, a car mechanic, and their crew of spirited seamstresses — accomplished what all the aerospace giants couldn’t. It’s a long way from the shop Cordiner works in advertising in San Francisco, but things changed when his script The Shark Is Not Working circulatedoor of Playtex to the surface of the moon, and this incredible story tracks how it happened.

Cordiner works in advertising in San Francisco, but things changed when his script The Shark Is Not Working circulated

Not that much is known about Cordiner, but WB has faith in his abilities. I think this is an interesting concept. I will have to pick up the book and dig a little deeper into this story.

MAN OF STEEL's Henry Cavill on Batman Vs. Superman

In an interview with SFX, the Man of Steel himself Henry Cavill said that he would love to see a Batman Vs. Superman film, saying...

I think it would be really interesting with the age-old Batman/Superman conflict because they are two different sides of the same coin and their methods are entirely different. And I think it would actually make for an interesting story as to why, first of all, they were going head to head and how. I think that would make a great story.

I also think that it would be a great story. I doubt they would use the story from Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Falls comic. It is really tragic story, and I don’t think that the general public is ready to see their favorite characters in that gritty of a situation.

Cavill was then asked if he knew if this movie concept was being tossed around at WB, and this was his reply,

Who knows. I’m sure there’s all sorts of ideas being thrown around at Warner Bros right now.

With all of the speculation of upcoming DC films, I don’t think this would be a priority. Do you think this would be a film to tackle before The Justice League? What DC films would you like to see come about?

Saoirse Ronan Wants to Play Scarlet Witch in THE AVENGERS 2

It was recently reported that The Host star Saoirse Ronan was being used as the model/prototype for Joss Whedon's Scarlet Witch character in The Avengers 2. In a recent interview with The Mary Sue, the actress reveals that she has heard these rumors and that she'd be interested in taking on the role. When asked about it, here's what she said...

I have heard about it and yes, I would. Yeah, of course I would. I love Joss and I love those films, and I love his handle on them and how he portrayed these kinds of superheroes. I think it’s very different from what anyone else has done. So yeah, I’d love to be in it.

Whedon has confirmed that the character will be included in the movie along with Quicksilver explaining that they "sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier."

So I guess if Whedon and Marvel end up asking her to be in the film it's safe to say that Ronan will take it. She's a great young actress, and I can see her in the role. She seems like the kind of actress Whedon would cast, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

New Banner for PACIFIC RIM and Poster for WORLD WAR Z

Warner Bros. has released a new banner for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, and Paramount Pictures has released a new poster for Marc Forster's World War Z. Both movies look great, but I'm definitely more excited to see Pacific Rim. Paramount recently screened World War Z, and there's been a good amount of positive buzz, so that's good! I wasn't sure how it would turn out.

Pacific Rim - July 12th:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

World War Z - June 21st:

Based on Max Brooks' best-selling novel "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War," the story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

Amazing Giant Basement Arcade!

Check out this amazing giant basement arcade that was build by Reddit user mertzlufft and his dad. It's packed full of awesome fully functioning classic arcade games, a pool table, a foosball table, a bar, and more. I can't even imagine what the electrical bill would be for something like this! Of course, if they can afford to turn their basement into a full arcade, then I'm sure they can afford the electric bill. But then I think, why couldn't they afford a better big screen TV? It's like the one they have is from the late 90s or early 2000s. Unless they did it on purpose and are trying to keep the old-school vintage feel... but why?

Who Would You Like to See Direct STAR TREK 3?

Even though J.J. Abrams is open to the idea of directing Star Trek 3, chances are he won't be able to make it because of his commitment to make Star Wars: Episode VII. It's only natural for the studio to start putting together a list of directors to possibly take his place. Latino-Review's El Mayimbe revealed that Attack the Block director and Ant-Man co-writer Joe Cornish is one of many names on a list that Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot have put together. I got me thinking... if Abrams doesn't come back, who would make a great replacement? Here are the tweets that went out...

There's nothing set in stone. Studios are always making lists of names they want to have working on their projects. The fact that Cornish is even in the running is pretty cool. I loved Attack the Block, and I could see him doing a great job with the Star Trek franchise. But there's also a handful of other talented directors out there that would also make a good choice to take on the franchise. I think Moon director Duncan JonesTron Legacy director Joseph Kosinslki, and Looper director Rian Johnson would all make good choices.

Who would be your top choice to take Abrams' spot as director on STAR TREK 3?

The first trailer for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's animated DC comics film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox is now available for you to watch. The story is based on Geoff Johns' graphic novel Flashpoint, and the story centers on the Flash who wakes up devoid of his super powers. It looks like it could be a decent movie. I'm sure we'll get a chance to check it out at Comic-Con this year.

When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for Flash and his family, the event’s temporal ripples prove disastrous, creating a fractured, alternate reality where the Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere to be found. Amidst a new world being ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman’s Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlanteans, Flash must team with a grittier, more violent Batman and government agent Cyborg to restore the continuity of Flash’s original timeline.

The animated movie stars Justin Chambers as Barry Allen, Kevin McKidd as Thomas Wayne/Batman, Kevin Conroy as Batman, Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Ron Perlman as Slade and Deathstroke, Michael B Jordan as Cyborg, and C. Thomas Howell as Reverse Flash. It's set to be released on July 30th. Check out the trailer.

As you know, Jamie Foxx has been spotted lumbering around on the set of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as a blue, electrifying Electro. I think he looks great! In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies, the actor discusses his look in the movie and confirms that we'll be seeing our first footage from the film at San Diego Comic-Con in July!

Oh, man ― it's so much fun. The costume is great. They were very creative with it. It's part of a remarkable legacy: Spider-Man. I mean, when you're growing up as a kid, you know, that's everything. So to be able to be in that is just amazing.

Now I'm just waiting to get to Comic-Con and see how people respond to it. Marc Webb is a genius and Amy Pascal and everybody at Sony have just be so gracious to allow me to have this opportunity. So it's cool.

I figured we'd see some footage from this movie at Comic-Con this year, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they end up showing off to the fans!

The movie also stars Shailene Woodley, Colm Feore, Sally Field and Chris Cooper, and will be released in theaters on May 2nd, 2014.

Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) finds life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away – but that's a promise he just can't keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Cartoon Depicts Hayao Miyazaki's Philosophy on Films

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this comic by Ashley Allis describing famous anime director Hayao Miyazaki's thoughts on good and evil in films. I was always a big fan of Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke but couldn't exactly shape as to why. I still can't tell you if it's his presentation of good and evil, or just the fact that his stories are a take off from the standard in American story telling. Either way, it brought to light a little more information on a director I already liked as well as gave me insight to his films. You Miyazaki fans out there, have you always been aware of this?

Bryan Singer on X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Opportunities

Bryan Singer is looking to take the X-Men franchise to a whole new level with X-Men: Days of Future Past. He's bringing together almost every main actor that has starred in an X-Men movie and is adding some new characters like Quicksilver into the mix. He's also throwing in a whole time travel element into the mix. This is an ambitious X-Men project, and I truly hope that Singer can actually pull it off.

In a recent interview with SFX, the director says his goal is for Days of Future Past to be its own film, not just a sequel to First Class or X-Men 3. He even reveals that he pitched his idea to James Cameron to make sure it would work.

It’s not just another X-Men film; it’s not just about the combined cast as there will be certain technologies and other stuff that we haven’t seen before in the X-Men film. There are also issues of time and we’re messing about with that. I think we’ve got it figured out. I pitched it to James Cameron when I was in New Zealand last year and he said, ‘Yes, that makes sense.’

We wanted an opportunity to bring some of the favourite older and younger characters together. We also wanted to play with the notion of different times and stuff like the way that time affects destinies. It enables the film to not just be a sequel to First Class or X-Men 3 but to actually be its own thing.

I'm curious to see if this film will actually be used to open up Fox's own mutant Marvel cinematic universe. As of right now, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is the only connection they all have. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming Fantastic Four film connects with this movie universe. It very well could, especially with the addition of Quicksilver, but we'll just have to wait and see.

As excited as I am to see how this and The Wolverine turn out, I just want to see Fox finally make that long awaited Deadpool movie!
