You remember that shocking ending for The Walking Dead in episode 2x07? Well, if you don't or if you haven't seen it yet, I wouldn't watch the following clip because it contains spoilers. AMC has released the first three minutes of the midseason premiere of the show episode 2x08, titled "Nebraska." This opening sequence is just as heavy as the the way the last episode ended.

After the destruction of his family, Herschel demands that Rick and his group leaves immediately. Shane and Rick's differences begin to openly erupt.

I can't wait for this series to return! The zombie drama returns Sunday, February 12th. Watch the clip below, and hit us up with your thoughts!

STRETCH ARMSTRONG Movie Picked Up by Relativity Media

Universal Pictures has ditched yet another Hasbro movie project. Stretch Armstrong is no longer a part of their movie plans. However, after they dropped it, it was picked up by Relativity Media, who has teamed up with Hasbro to bring the pointless stretching toy to life on the big screen. Other movies that the studio has put in turnaround recently include, OuijaClueMonopoly, and Magic, The Gathering.

Taylor Lautner was previously attached to star in the film which would have been directed by Rob Letterman. But Relativity is starting from scratch, which means Launter is out. Basically, Lautner is the reason that the project fell apart at Universal. After his last action film, Abduction, bombed at the box office, they had to rethink the project. Lautner isn't the leading man they hoped he would be. But hell, I think most of us knew that movie was going to fail.

With or without Lautner, this movie adaptation sounds like a bad idea. But maybe they will do something fun and good with it. What do you think?

Stretch Armstrong is the classic action hero figure first launched by Hasbro in 1976 and re-launched in the 90’s, sold successfully throughout North America and in markets across the world. The original Stretch’s unique design broke free of traditional action figures, as he could be stretched over and over and always returned back to his original size. The nostalgic toy is considered to be rare and collectible to this day.

Here's the full press release with all the details:

(Beverly Hills, Calif.) January 30, 2012 –Relativity Media has partnered with global branded play company Hasbro, Inc. [NASDAQ-HAS] to develop and produce a live-action tent-pole film based on Stretch Armstrong, the iconic action hero figure launched in the 1970s, it was announced today by Relativity’s Co-President, Tucker Tooley and Hasbro’s President and CEO, Brian Goldner.

Relativity will be the domestic distributor and will release the film internationally through its network of foreign output partners. The film is targeted for an April 11, 2014 release date.

The film will be produced by Relativity’s CEO, Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter), Hasbro’s Goldner (Transformers) and Bennett Schneir, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Motion Pictures (Battleship). Tooley (Immortals) will serve as executive producer.

Hasbro has become an entertainment powerhouse by creating hit movies and television shows from its rich portfolio of world class brands. Since 2007, Hasbro’s Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises have grossed nearly $3 billion at the worldwide box office. 2012 is shaping up to be another stellar year for Hasbro with its partners Universal Pictures releasing Battleship in April and Paramount Pictures releasing G.I. Joe: Retaliation in June. In television, Hasbro Studios produces shows like Transformers Prime and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic that can be seen on the HUB television network in the U.S. and in more than 140 countries globally.

“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Hasbro, a company whose global reach and ability to innovate has made them immensely successful in the arena of brand re-imagination– as evidenced by their legacy of creating such franchises as Transformers and G.I. Joe,” said Tooley, “We look forward to bringing Stretch Armstrong to audiences worldwide.”

“Stretch Armstrong is a great example of Hasbro’s rich portfolio of intellectual properties that we are continuing to develop globally,” said Goldner, “We are excited to partner with Relativity on this movie as they are a growing and innovative studio.”

Relativity recently released Oscar®-winner Steven Soderbergh’s dynamic action-thriller Haywire in theatres. Looking ahead, Relativity will release the the heart-pounding Navy SEAL action-thriller Act of Valor (in theatres February 24, 2012) and magical adventure comedy Mirror Mirror (in theatres March 30, 2012), starring Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Nathan Lane, and Armie Hammer. The studio just wrapped production on the comedy 21 and Over and is currently in pre-production on Nicholas Sparks’ gripping love story Safe Haven and the international espionage thriller Hunter Killer.

THE MUPPETS Fire Back at Fox News

I don't know if you remember or not, but when the new Muppets movie was released, Fox Business basically said the film was trying to feed kids an anti corporate massage to lead them away from capitalism. You can watch what was said below. I swear, the people over at Fox are a little nuts.

The Muppets Kermit and Miss Piggy were asked about this in a recent press conference, and this was what they had to say about what these people at Fox said about the film.

Rooney Mara Cast in Steven Soderbergh's New Thriller SIDE EFFECTS

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara is officially attached to star in Steven Soderbergh's new thriller Side Effects. Mara is replacing the previously-cast Blake Lively in the role, which in my opinion is a major step up in talent.

According to Deadline, Mara will play a character named Emily Hawkins, described as "a sexy but unsettled young woman who is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs to deal with anxiety and depression surrounding the pending release of her husband from prison." The films cast also includes Jude Law, Channing Tatum, and Catherine Zeta-Jones

The film was written by Scott Z. Burns (The Informant, Contagion), and it's scheduled to start shooting in April. As a big fan of Soderbergh's films, I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of story he's going to give us with this movie. What are your thoughts on Mara being cast in the lead role?

Tom Hiddleston Replaces Michael Fassbender in Vampire Love Story

About eight months ago, we reported on a new vampire film being made by Broken Flowers director Jim Jarmusch. The film is called Only Lovers Left Alive, and at the time the cast included Michael Fassbender, Tilda SwintonMia Wasikowska, and John Hurt. Today, THR is reporting extremely late that Swinton and Hurt have been cast, as this was announced last year. The one thing I did notice in the report was that Fassbender is no longer in the film, but Thor's Tom Hiddleston is. So somewhere down the line that casting changed. I'm not sure when it happened, but I don't remember seeing any news about it.

The film is described as a horror drama, an "unusual love story between two vampires who have been in love for centuries." The director went on to call it a “crypto-vampire love story” set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangiers. "I’ve been imagining this film for years. I can’t wait to now realise it with these remarkable collaborators."

It will be interesting to see Hiddleston and Wasikowska take on the role of vampires, I can easily see each of them pulling it off well. What do you think?

Trailer for THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY Thriller with Bruce Willis and Henry Cavill

Here's the first trailer for the new action thriller The Cold Light of Day, which stars Bruce Willis, Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), and Sigourney Weever. The story follows a young American played by Cavill whose family is kidnapped while vacationing in Spain. In the process of finding his family he uncovers a government conspiracy. He is left with only hours to find the connection between their disappearance and his father's secrets.

The movie looks like it could be OK, but in all honesty, it looks like the typical Hollywood action thriller that we've seen made a hundred times before. Check out the trailer, and tell us what you think!

Joe Carnahan To Helm DEATH WISH Remake

Joe Carnahan's The Grey dominated the box office this weekend (Read our review here). 24 Frames is now reporting that the director has been tapped for his next project. Carnahan will write and direct a remake of the 1974 Charles Bronson vigilante flick Death Wish.

MGM and Paramount are overseeing the remake that will tell the story of "Paul Kersey, a liberal architect who morphs into an assassin after his wife and daughter are brutally attacked. Bronson's character then undertakes a one-man mission to hurt and kill a host of criminals on the streets of New York." The original was full of intense violence, which had not been seen in movies at the time.

The original film had four sequels starring Bronson. The Grey's Jules Daly will produce along with Tony and Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions. I am interested in seeing who is cast as the lead, and I would love to see Liam Neeson in the role. Sylvester Stallone was involved to star in an earlier attempt that got stuck in development hell.

What are your thoughts on this news? Would you like to see a Death Wish remake?

"There is no hope for any of us." Here are two more new TV spots for AMC's mid-season return of The Walking Dead. Each one of them contains a ton of new footage that fans of the show will enjoy watching. It looks like the second part of this season is going to be crazy good and intense.

Here's a description of the upcoming season 2 episode called "Nebraska:"

After the barn incident, there is much conflict among both groups of survivors, Hershel wants Rick and his group to leave immediately and Shane accuses Rick to be just as delusional as Hershel saying that Hershel knew about Sophia the whole time and hid her from the group. Dale tells Andrea to be careful about her relationship with Shane since Dale knows what kind of person Shane is and now wants him gone from the group. He also reveals this to Lori, including the fate of Otis.

Russo and Sosenko To Adapt TOO COOL TO BE FORGOTTEN

Top Shelf graphic novel Too Cool To Be Forgotten is being adapted for the big screen. Comingsoon reports that Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko have been hired to write the script. Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Daniel Crown of Red Crown Produtions are producing with Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman

Stefanie Azpiazu and Riva Marker are serving as exec producers on the film. The project has been gestating since 2009, when Likely Story signed a first-look deal with Top Shelf Comix.

Too Cool To Be Forgotten is from cartoonist Alex Robinson. Robinson is known for Box Office Poison and Tricked. Too Cool earned Robinson the Harvey Award for Best Original Graphic Novel.

Here is a description:
The story revolves around family man Andy Wicks who goes to a hypnosis clinic to break a 25-year smoking habit. While mocking the session as "mumbo jumbo," he is suddenly transformed into his 15-year-old self back in 1985. With his 40-something mind still intact, and convinced that he is just experiencing a hypnosis-induced brain state, he is nonetheless forced to relive the horrors of algebra class, visits to the principal, elaborate social hierarchies, and, of course, intense sexual frustration. Is he doomed to relive the mistakes of his past, or can he revise history to finally get things right in his life?

Here is what Bregman had to say about the project:
"'Too Cool to be Forgotten' is a story that demonstrates that comic books can be as profound and moving as they can be funny and entertaining, and that is exactly what this team hopes to replicate on the screen."
This sounds like a cool graphic novel, and I am interested to see it come to life What are your thoughts on this news? Do you think that Too Cool will make a good film?

Ben's Top 10 Movies of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival

$

As I'm sure you know by now, Joey and I spent the past ten days in Park City, Utah covering the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. I saw 27 movies and wrote and recorded reviews of most of them (check out all of our coverage here). Since this is the internet and we all thrive on lists, I'll add another one to the fray. Here are my favorite films of Sundance 2012, in alphabetical order:

Black Rock

This thriller about women trapped on an island is often conventional, but it's a solid genre exercise executed with suspense.

Celeste & Jesse Forever

Strong turns from Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg, who are equally capable of delivering drama and comedy.

The First Time

Can't Hardly Wait for the next generation. Heartfelt, cheesy in all the right ways, and a unique look at the teen sex genre in a post-Superbad world.

Liberal Arts

Elizabeth Olsen continues her Sundance reign in Josh Radnor's second directorial feature, a solid dramedy with great dialogue and a surprisingly funny part for Zac Efron. (I know, right?)

The Raid

One of the best action movies of all time. Period.

Red Lights

Rodrigo Cortes expands the scope of Buried to a compelling and suspenseful paranormal examination with shades of The Prestige all over.

Room 237

Conspiracy theorists, your wait is over. Exploring wild theories about Stanley Kubrick's The Shining has never been more fun.

Safety Not Guaranteed

A personal highlight of the festival, this time travel story with a romantic twist stars Aubrey Plaza, Jake Johnson, and Mark Duplass (as one of the most memorable characters of the past few years).

West of Memphis

An exhaustive look at the plight of the West Memphis Three that begins with the trial, documents the ensuing years, and even adds new information to the case.

Your Sister's Sister

A love triangle constructed from honest writing and strong performances from Emily Blunt, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Mark Duplass.

Any of these sound appealing to you? Check out our reviews for more in-depth discussion of each movie, and leave your thoughts in the comments section.

Have you seen Ben Wheatley's jacked up thriller Kill List yet? I watched it for the first time recently, and holy hot damn! I wasn't expecting what I got. It's such an insanely creepy movie that has a hell of an f'ed up ending. I won't ruin it for you, but the ending really pissed me off. If you're up for a good disturbing movie, then this is the one you need to watch.

The poster art you see above was featured on /Film and designed by Iron Jaiden, and it was created to to help promote IFC’s limited theatrical release of of the film. I believe it can currently be seen On Demand.

The print measures 18×24 inches and will be printed in an edition of 100. It goes on sale on February 23rd, 2012, for $30. Keep an eye on MondoNews on Twitter feed to find out what time it goes on sale.

Here's a few promo images for The Dark Knight Rises that we are going to start seeing on merchandise for the film. All of them are basically the same image of Batman leaping through the air while screaming out his battle cry, and reaching for something. This is some pretty fun looking promo art... I wonder if we will actually see The Dark Knight strike this pose in the movie. What do you think he's screaming out in this photo? What should Batman's battle cry be? I don't know why, but the first word to pop in my head was... "Tacos!"
