V/H/S/2 - Theatrical Trailer for the Awesome Horror Anthology

$

Magnet has released a great theatrical trailer for their epic horror anthology V/H/S/2. It's not as bloody as the red-band trailer, but it offers up some fun new footage. This movie was entertaining as hell, and if you enjoy watching horror movies then this film is not to be missed. All the segments in the film are horrifically fantastic! You can read my review for it here.

Synopsis:

Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.

From the demented minds that brought you last year’s V/H/S comes S-VHS, an all-new anthology of dread, madness, and gore. This follow-up ventures even further down the demented path blazed by its predecessor, discovering new and terrifying territory in the genre. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes—a second generation with no loss of quality.

This horror anthology sequel has several segments, which are directed by Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), Gareth Huw Evans (The Raid: Redemption) and Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre), Edúardo Sanchez and Gregg Hale (Blair Witch Project), and Adam Wingard (You’re Next). Then there's a wraparound segment directed by You’re Next writer Simon Barrett.

The movie will be available on VOD on June 6th and opens theatrically July 12th. I already can't wait for the third movie!

MAN OF STEEL - Foreboding Action Trailer

Zod narrates this newest trailer, full of never before seen footage. One feeling I get from watching it is that Zod is a very real threat, which is great because Superman is going to kick his ass.

Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14th.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Liam Hemsworth Set to Star in AURORA RISING Action Film

The Hunger Games' Liam Hemsworth is set to star in a new action-adventure film called Aurora Rising. Hemsworth will play a "Southern California surfer who becomes a fighter pilot and after a messy combat mission, is recruited to be part of an elite team to test a new generation of aircraft just as an international conflict begins."

The movie is set up at Relativity Media, and the script comes from Christian Gudegast (A Man Apart). There's no director attached yet, but it sounds like it could be a decent film. I've always been fascinated with the military's airforce, and it should be interesting to see what they end up doing with this, and what kind of technology these new jets have. I imagine the movie will somewhat try to mimic the Top Gun formula.

McG to Direct Submarine War Thriller HUNTER KILLER

Relativity Media has hired Terminator Salvation director McG to take on their submarine war thriller Hunter Killer.

The film is based on a novel called Firing Point written by Don Keith and George Wallace. The story "follows an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue Russia’s president, taken prisoner during a military coup. The two sides team to stop a rogue Russian general from igniting World War III."

McG recently directed the action comedy This Means War, and is currently developing the Kevin Costner movie Three Days to Kill. This sounds like it should make for a great movie, but I'm not the biggest fan of McG's work, so I'll be surprised if it actually ends up being good.

Here's a description of the book:

Below the polar ice cap, an American nuclear submarine moves quietly in the freezing water, tailing a new Russian sub. But the usual, unspoken game of hide-and-seek between opposing captains is ended when the Americans hear sounds of disaster and flooding, and the Russian sub sinks in a thousand feet of water. The American sub rushes to help, only to join its former quarry in the deep.

The situation ignites tensions around the world. As both Washington and Moscow prepare for what may be the beginnings of World War III, the USS Toledo—led by young, untested Captain Joe Glass—heads to the location to give aid. He soon discovers that the incident was no accident. And the men behind it have yet to make their final move.

A move only Glass can stop.

First Look at Tom Hiddleston as a Vampire in ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE

A set of photos have surfaced for Tom Hiddleston's new "crypto-vampire love story" called Only Lovers Left Alive, and it gives us our first look at the Avengers star as the vampire Adam, as well as Tilda Swinton as Eve.

The images come from The Playlist, and the story follows "an underground musician who's deeply depressed by the direction of human activities. He reunites with his centuries-long lover, Eve (Swinton), though their idyll is soon interrupted by Eve's wild and uncontrollable younger sister Ava (Mia Wasikowska)".

Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?

The film was directed by Jim Jarmusch and also stars John Hurt and Anton Yelchin. Here's what the director had to say in a statement:

Only Lover Left Alive is an unconventional love story between a man and a woman, Adam and Eve. (My script was partially inspired by the last book published by Mark Twain: The Diaries of Adam and Eve -- though no direct reference to the book is made other than the character’s names.) These two lovers are archetypal outsiders, classic bohemians, extremely intelligent and sophisticated -- yet still in full possession of their animal instincts. They have traveled the world and experienced many remarkable things, always inhabiting the shadowed margins of society. And, like their own love story, their particular perspective on human history spans centuries -- because they happen to be vampires.

But this is not your usual vampire story. Set in the very distinct cities of Detroit and Tangier, and taking place almost entirely at night, Adam and Eve must have human blood to survive. But they now live in the world of the 21st century where biting the neck of a stranger would be reckless and regressive -- for survival, they must be certain the blood that sustains them is pure and free of disease or contamination. And, almost like shadows, they have learned long ago to deftly avoid the attention of any authorities. For our fi lm, the vampire is a resonant metaphor -- a way to frame the deeper intentions of the story. This is a love story, but also the story of two exceptional outsiders who, given their unusual circumstances, have a vast overview of human and natural history, including stunning achievements and tragic and brutal failures. Adam and Eve are themselves metaphors for the present state of human life -- they are fragile and endangered, susceptible to natural forces, and to the shortsighted behavior of those in power.

As of right now there's no release date.

Universal Pictures has released a couple new posters and a photo from the new Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost comedic adventure The World's End.

The story follows five friends who reunite for a pub crawl that escalates into a struggle for humankind's future from what looks to be a horde of alien possessed people. The movie also stars Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan, and Paddy Considine.

The movie will be released on August 23rd, 2013, and it looks like it's going to be hilarious. Check out the trailer for the film here.

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Park Chan-wook's SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE Being Remade

Park Chan-wook's Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance is getting it's English language feature film remake. Three years ago Warner Bros. was looking to remake the film, which is part of Park’s South Korean film trilogy which also includes Sympathy for Lady Vengeance and Oldboy. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian were attached to produce the remake when the project was initially set up, and they are still attached. They've hired Broken City scribe Brian Tucker to write the script.

The movie tells a dark and twisted story of revenge that follows Ryu, a deaf man, and his sister, who requires a kidney transplant. Ryu ends up being laid off from his job, and in order to afford the transplant, Ryu and his girlfriend develop a plan to kidnap his bosses daughter. Things go horribly wrong, and the situation spirals rapidly into a cycle of violence and revenge.

I love Chan-wook's work, and this is another great film of his. If you haven't seen it yet, you should definitely take the time to check it out. It's already out there. There's no point in waiting around for the remake, unless you don't like to read subtitles.

It's no secret that Hollywood likes to remake movies. All we can ask for is that they do a decent job doing it because they will keep remaking movies whether we like it or not.

We've already seen a couple of trailers for director Neil Jordan‘s new vampire thriller Byzantium, but this one is being referred to as the official domestic trailer. The film stars Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, and Sam Riley. I've been hearing that it's a great movie. Judging from the trailers it looks like it will be. Here's a brief synopsis:

Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.

The film also stars Jonny Lee Miller, Daniel Mays, Caleb Landry Jones, Kate Ashfield, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Uri Gavriel, and Thure Lindhardt. The film will be released in theaters on June 28th, 2013.

ONLY GOD FORGIVES Clip - The Most Awkward Dinner Ever

I've found myself in the middle of a few awkward dinner conversations in my life, but nothing compared to what you're about to watch in this new restricted clip from Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives. There's no action in this scene, but it's still insane and vulgar. Kristin Scott Thomas plays a pretty terrible mother.

Ryan Gosling plays Julian in the film, a former kickboxer and gangster living in Bangkok. When his brother is murdered by a ruthless Thai police lieutenant, Julian is forced to seek vengeance or risk his own death.

The movie also stars Vithaya Pansringarm, and it comes out in theaters on May 23rd. The movie recently premiered at Cannes, and from the reviews I've read it's going to be just as awesomely crazy as we're hoping it will be.

Watch the clip and let us know if you've had an equally as awkward or worse dinner experience.

Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.

The 5 Best Video Games Based Off Movies

$

It's hard for Hollywood to make a decent video game film, but it's even harder for the gaming industry to make decent video games based off movies. E.T. remains at the top of worst game lists. The Tron game was a big flop, and sure Batman has had his fair share of good games...but he's also had Batman Forever and Batman Begins which speak for themselves in their mediocrity. I composed a list of some of the best video games directly spawned from a movie. Enjoy!

5. Power Rangers: The Movie: The Videogame (SNES/SEGA GENESIS)

I replayed this game recently, and I have to say it holds up much better than the movie. It's challenging, fun, and an all around great clone of the ever so popular arcade fighter you'd play in the 90s! Sure, it doesn't have music by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, but the option to fight as your human self and then morph on command is a great feeling, and the character selection was nice with a variation of moves per character...but who wasn't going White Ranger all the way back then?

4. THE MATRIX: The Path Of Neo (Multiplatform)

Who didn't watch The Matrix and think..."Man that would be a dope game"? Well, if you played any of the games developed from the series (including games like Max Payne, which borrowed "Bullet time") you'd agree, especially if you played the crown jewel amongst them The Path Of Neo. You play as Neo, doing Chosen One stuff and what not, and pretty much operate on God mode from start to finish...except you can die. The gameplay is fun; the battles are intense, and I think if someone announced a sequel today no one would oppose it.

3. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World The Video Game (Xbox Live Arcade)

When people ask me what my favorite video game movie is, I usually say Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. I know it's not really a video game movie, but damn if it isn't a fantastic film that deals almost entirely in a world of video games. Plus the game was pretty solid as well. Using art work from the graphic novel, a nostalgic 8-bit soundtrack, and challenging gameplay this game was a great supplement to an already wonderful film. Not to mention it was cheap!

2. Super Star Wars Series (SNES)

Yes, I know there are a ton of Star Wars games for me to choose from, but this is the only one based (albeit remotely) off the movie. Chewie raiding Jabba's palace? With a blaster? I don't...what?

It's also one of the best, most challenging, and anger inducing game on the list as well. I recently tried to get through the game with infinite lives and a save state between levels and still managed to give up due to sheer frustration of the difficulty. Still love the game though.

1. Spiderman 2 (PS2/Xbox/GC)

How do you top great gameplay, voice acting by the actual movie actors, and additional cameos and side missions with other villains from the comic book universe?! Simple...you add Bruce Campbell as the narrator.

Seriously, this game was incredible from start to finis, and when you did finish it lets you keep playing with harder challenges and people to save! It's the best video game based off a movie I've ever played and still the best to this day.

Obviously, like all lists, there are other people's opinions, choices, etc. Post them below!

Odd But Entertaining Trailer for THE MURDERS OF BRANDYWINE THEATER

I'll warn you right now; this film trailer lacks the quality of a big budget movie. That being said it does feature a crazy puppet, former WCW star Diamond Dallas Page, pro football player Josh Cribbs, Scrubs' little janitor Martin Klebba, and friend of South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, Dian Bachar. The film looks to be serious, and in some portions it does succeed in looking very creepy. I'm sure this one will at least get a Netflix release so watch the trailer and be on the lookout for it sometime next year.

But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and award-winning composer Randy Newman  (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). Here's a new promo photo for Gavin Hood's Ender's Game featuring Harrison Ford as Colonel Hyrum Graff and Asa Butterfield as Ender. It gives us a better, more detailed look at Ender's battle uniform. This movie looks like it could be a decent adaptation. I like what I've seen so far, but ya never know what the final product is until after you see it.

The movie also stars Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Moises Arias, Khylin Rhambo, Viola DavisBrandon Soo Hoo, and Nonso AnozieEnder’s Game hits theaters on November 1st, 2013.

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

This is the first teaser trailer for a new comedy starring Vince Vaughn called Delivery Man. The movie was previously titled Starbuck, and the story follows Vaughn as a man whose life is turned upside down when he learns he has fathered 533 children through a mix-up at a sperm bank. The trailer may by brief, but it's entertaining and funny. The film also stars Chris PrattCobie Smulders, and Britt Robertson.

From DreamWorks Pictures comes “Delivery Man,” the story of affable underachiever David Wozniak, whose mundane life is turned upside down when he finds out that he fathered 533 children through sperm donations he made twenty years earlier. In debt to the mob, rejected by his pregnant girlfriend, things couldn’t look worse for David when he is hit with a lawsuit from 142 of the 533 twenty-somethings who want to know the identity of the donor. As David struggles to decide whether or not he should reveal his true identity, he embarks on a journey that leads him to discover not only his true self but the father he could become as well.

The comedy opens up on November 22nd, and it looks like it will be worth checking out.

Sony Might Sell SPIDER-MAN Movie Rights Back to Marvel

There's a chance Spider-Man will finally be included in the Marvel movie universe where he belongs. The Register is reporting that Sony is looking to sell off some of their movie properties, including Spider-Man and Resident Evil. Apparently, Sony Pictures is going through some financial issues. This is basically a cost cutting measure in order to put more work and effort into the company's electronics division. This is the direct quote form the site:

Sony has said that it will consider a proposal from activist investor Daniel Loeb that the group should sell off parts of its music and movies business, which includes popular franchises Spider-Man and Resident Evil and the weepy ballads of Brit crooner Adele.

Sony Chief executive Kazuo Hirai, confirms the news and says the board is actually considering the proposal saying,

Third Point’s proposal involves the way we manage a core business of the Sony group and the direction of our management. So the Sony board will give it thorough consideration before replying to Mr Loeb.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but it looks like there's a chance Spider-Man could go back to Marvel if they want it. And why wouldn't they? I'm curious to see how this all plays out. But in all honesty I don't see why Sony would get rid of one of their biggest most profitable properties, it's hard to believe that they would be willing to do that, and I doubt that they will.

Great First Trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's DON JON

The first trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's new film project Don Jon is available for you to watch, and it's pretty great. So if you like what you've seen and heard about the movie so far, this is your chance to get a real taste of what's in store for you.

This was the first film that Gordon-Levitt wrote and directed, and he did a fantastic job. I thought the movie was extremely well made, entertaining, and it also has a message. You can read our review of the film here, and watch our video review here

Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old-fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Gordon-Levitt previously explained the film saying,

People were assuming it was a film about porn addiction and sex addiction, which really isn’t true. That’d be sort of like saying “The Maltese Falcon” is a movie about a statue of a falcon. DON JON is a comedy about how men and women treat each other, and how the media we consume can create unrealistic expectations that we put on one another. That’s why the story centers around a relationship between a young man (played by me) who watches too much pornography and a young woman (played by Scarlett) who watches too many romantic Hollywood movies. It’s a topic I personally find fascinating and hilarious.

The movie also stars Julianne Moore and Tony DanzaDon Jon opens in theaters on October 18th, 2013.
