Here's a clip from M. Night Shyamalan's sci-fi movie After Earth. It features Will Smith's character, Cypher tasking his son Kitai (Jaden Smith) with retrieving a "Beacon" which is essential to their survival. If they don't get the beacon, they're going to die. 

The movie comes out on June 7th, 2013. I'm interested in seeing the film, but not really excited. I'm actually more curious to see how it does at the box office, and if it's going to be the final nail in Shyamalan's filmmaking coffin. Just because Will Smith is in the movie doesn't mean it's going to be good, but more people will go see the movie because he's in it. 

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

Here's the first trailer for James Franco's new film As I Lay Dying, which he not only stars in, but also wrote and directed. The film is based on William Faulkner's classic novel, and I imagine this wasn't an easy book to adapt. The story is told in a "stream of consciousness writing style by 15 different narrators in 59 chapters. It is the story of the death of Addie Bundren and her family's quest and motivations—noble or selfish—to honor her wish to be buried in the town of Jefferson."

Franco is a multitalented guy. He has dabbled in all things entertainment, such as big blockbuster films, low budget art house films, art projects, teaching, writing novels, and more. I'm sure he welcomed the challenge of adapting this novel, and it looks like it could prove to be a great film. 

Set in 1930s Mississippi, the movie also stars Danny McBride, Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother Where Art Thou), Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus), Jim Parrack (True Blood), and Ahna O'Reilly. 

AS I LAY DYING is an upcoming drama film directed by and starring James Franco, based on the book by William Faulkner and charts the story of the Bundren family and their attempts to bury Addie Bundren in the town of Jefferson. It has been selected to be screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

Franco himself stars as Darl Bundren, the son of a woman who has recently died, and whose family is attempting to honor her wish of being buried in a town forty miles away from the family home. Tim Blake Nelson plays the widowed patriarch and Franco’s father, while Jim Parrack (True Blood) plays one of his brothers. Danny McBride, who previously co-starred with Franco in the extreme stoner comedy “Pineapple Express,” Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) and Ahna O’Reilly (The Help) also star in the film.

The movie will premiere at The Cannes Film Festival later this month.

I'm not sure what's going on in this image, but it's our first look at Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) in the new film Metallica: Through the Never. The movie was directed by Nimrod Antal, and in it DeHaan plays a road crew member of the band who is sent out on a mission that turns his life upside down. It looks like things get insanely out of hand. This image has a post-apocalyptic feel to it.

Starring Metallica, a cast of thousands of their fans and breakout star Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Metallica Through the Never is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimrod Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by former IMAX film producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth). The film marries groundbreaking footage and editing techniques with a compelling narrative, in which a band crew member (played by DeHaan) is sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. While on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.

The movie opens in IMAX theatres for a one-week engagement starting Friday, September 27th, 2013. The movie will then expand into more theatres on October 4th, 2013.

Here's another awesome Grand Theft Auto IV MOD. It replaces the Annihilator helicopter in the game with a Millennium Falcon. I'd take a Millennium Falcon over a helicopter any day. The MOD was created by Emad Tavakoli, and you can see it action below! The MOD is available to download from GTA4-Mods. The only thing wrong with it is that it's backwards, but I'll let it slide because it's still cool! 

FOX has released the trailers to a bunch of new shows they have coming out in the 2013-2014 season. We've got trailers for the a couple of action thrillers from producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, Sleepy Hollow, and Almost Human with Karl Urban. Then there are a couple comedies that include Brooklyn Nine Nine from Parks and Recreation's Michael Schur, and Seth MacFarlane's live-action sitcom Dads with Seth Green and Giovani Ribisi. I'll give all of these shows a shot, but not all of them look good. Sleepy Hollow looks especially disappointing. Check out the trailers below and let us know which shows you're most excited for!

Rake

Greg Kinnear stars as a brilliant and charming criminal defense attorney whose self-destructive personal life often gets in the way of his professional one.

A pair of young lovers find their path to happily-ever-after is complicated by the screwed-up circus of people closest to them.

Brooklyn Nine Nine

From Dan Goor and Michael Schur, the Emmy Award-winning writers/producers of "Parks and Recreation," and starring Emmy Award winners Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE is a single-camera ensemble comedy about what happens when a detective who doesn't take anything seriously gets a new "by-the-book" boss who wants him to grow up and respect the badge.

It seems like it's been awhile since we've posted anything from the team over at How It Should Have Ended. They've released another animated comedy short giving us an alternate version of the ending of Tom Cruise's sci-fi film Oblivion. 

Now I enjoyed Oblivion, but I didn't care for the ending at all. This one was a lot more entertaining... enjoy! To watch the other videos from How It Should Have Ended click here.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. looks like it's going to be a fun series, and I'm looking forward to seeing what it has to offer. While we wait for the show to air in the fall, a new viral website, www.wearetherisingtide.com, has been revealed that we can waste time messing around on. 

Remember that Hulk video that leaked out a few days ago? Well, that's all part of the viral campaign that centers around Rising Tide, which is a group of conspiracy theorists that are looking to prove the existence of S.H.I.E.L.D., and this is their statement...

WHO IS S.H.I.E.L.D.? WHAT ARE THEY HIDING? SUPER-POWERS ARE REAL. ALIENS EXIST. WHAT ELSE IS OUT THERE? WE WILL UNCOVER THE TRUTH. WE WILL NOT REMAIN SILENT ANY LONGER.

The site has links to videos that feature Iron Man and Hulk. There's no word on how big a part all of this will play in the series, but I think it's one of those things that help the series connect to the rest of Marvel's cinematic universe.

Star Wars or Star Trek? It's a question that has been debated by fans for years, and it will be continue to be debated for years to come. I love both franchises. They are each unique in their own way. Although if I had to choose one over the other, I'd have to choose Star Wars. There's just a certain connection I have with it. 

Director J.J. Abrams has also said several times that he prefers Star Wars over Star Trek. Now that he's set to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, everyone is asking him about it while he's doing press for Star Trek Into Darkness. Of course, it's still in the very early stages of development, so Abrams doesn't have much to say about it yet. 

He recently was a guest on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and instead of asking Abrams about how he plans on developing Star Wars they discuss the differences between the franchises. It's an entertaining discussion that I'm sure you'll all enjoy watching.

Warner Bros. has released another TV spot for Todd Phillip's final chapter in The Hangover franchise. I'm really rooting for The Hangover Part III to be the funniest movie of the year. I'm hoping that it has an epic conclusion.

The movie stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, Justin Bartha, John Goodman, Sasha Barrese, Gillian Vigman, and Jamie Chung. 

The Hangover Part III hits theaters on May 24th! 

Lionsgate has released a new poster for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire featuring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss standing tall. This is actually a nice poster design. For those of you that have a hard time reading the poster caption it says, "The sun persists in rising, so I make myself stand."

The movie is set to be released in theaters and IMAX on November 22nd, 2013. The movie looks like it's going to be good. You can check out the trailer for it here. 

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The trailer gives us a little history lesson on the true story of the golden age of pirates. The trailer launches Under the Black Flag, a "historical crash course" that will have a new chapter every week this month. I enjoy history. I know a little bit about the history of pirates, but it's not something that I've completely delved into yet. I'm sure I'll eventually get around to it.

To take you deeper into the true History behind Assassin's Creed IV, we've also launched "Under the Black Flag," a Historical crash course on the Golden Age of Pirates hosted entirely on Tumblr. Check back each week this month for a new chapter in the True Story of the Golden Age of Pirates. 

In chapter one, learn about the brutal life of a sailor in the 18th century, the "Pirate King" Henry Avery whose exploits grew to legend and inspired a generation, and the Spanish War of Succession which sowed the seeds of piracy in the Caribbean.

This game looks like it will be a ton of fun to play. It will be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC on October 29th, 2013.

The player is hired by Abstergo Entertainment — a subsidiary of Abstergo Industries — to investigate a pivotal movement in Desmond's ancestry; the Assassin Edward Kenway. A notorious pirate and privateer operating during the Golden Age of Piracy, Kenway's story is set in the Caribbean, and mixes open-ended ship-based exploration with combat and land-based adventures on a number of Caribbean islands. Real-life pirates that you will encounter include: Edward "Blackbeard" Teach, Benjamin Hornigold, Anne Bonny, Jack Rackham and Charles Vane.

Pixar Animation has announced that they will be releasing a new Toy Story short for Halloween called Toy Story of Terror. The image above gives us our first look at what's in store for fans. What's great about this short is that it's going to be longer than the previous Toy Story shorts that have been released. This one will be 30-minutes long. The short was directed by Angus MacLane (Small Fry). Here's a short description:

Bonnie is on a road trip to go see grandma with her mom and the toys are in the trunk. Mom gets a flat tire and they have to spend the night at a motel and all kinds of chaos ensues.

The director explains that Jessie will be the main character of this short but that all the other characters will be in it as well. Oh! And the original voice cast will be returning to reprise their roles. Combat Carl will even make an appearance, and he'll be voiced by Carl Weathers. The report goes on to say,

The special will have a horror feel after one of the toys goes missing at the motel. The rest of the gang will find themselves caught up in a mysterious sequence of events that must be solved before they all suffer the same fate.

The short was also influenced by films such as  Psycho, Aliens, and Predator. The director added,

There was some support to make a scary, but not necessarily Halloween-themed half-hour Toy Story special for television. There was some concern early on about not making it too scary for kids. I think we've done a good job of balancing staying true to Toy Story and staying true to the genre. As far as adults are concerned, I've always thought that we make these movies for ourselves. I think it's funny and like the other Toy Story films, I think there is plenty of stuff in there that only adults will get.

This sounds like it will be an incredibly fun film. I'll be looking forward to it!

Warner Bros. is keeping fans happy by releasing a steady flow of Man of Steel awesomeness. I imagine the closer that we get to the film's release, the more stuff they are going to give us. We've got three new insightful featurettes for the film from Norton AntiVirus that focus on Superman's speed, flight, and strength. Each one includes a bit of new footage from the film. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to premiere on ABC this fall. There's no specific premiere date yet, but apparently it will air on Tuesday nights at 8pm. We have a short new spot for you called "Welcome to Level 7." The official ABC website also revealed a bunch of new photos for the series that includes some character portraits that I've included as well.

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.

Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

I'm excited for this series, and I think it's going to end up being really fun. Do any of you think it doesn't look good?

Here's a fantastic short film that you need to watch. It's not an action-packed CGI filled short film, but it's a touching story with solid performances and amazing cinematography. It could make for a great feature film. I know it doesn't look like it would be interesting, but if you watch it you'll see the magic it contains.

The short premiered at  SXSW 2013, and it was directed by Aaron David DeFazio from a script written by Daniella Kahane. Here's the short plot summary:

When a high powered hedge fund manager finds out that his biggest investor may be pulling out of the fund, his world begins to collapse on him, as he juggles fatherhood, his ex-wife, and one very big secret.

I hope you enjoy this one. Check it out.

It still amazes me how big Downton Abbey has become. The fact that it was even included in Iron Man 3 was surprising and funny. I didn't jump on board the bandwagon until right before season 3 was released. I was surprised by how addictive the show is. It's just a beautiful setting with great characters. Anyway, PBS has announced that season 4 will premiere on January 5th and run through February 23rd. 

Shirley MacLaine is reprising her role as Martha Levinson, Cora's (Elizabeth McGovern) mother, and there are going to be some new faces in the cast. That includes Tom Cullen as Lord Gillingham, a Crawley family friend whose history with Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) goes back to childhood; Nigel Harman as a visiting valet named Green; and Dame Harriet Walter as Lady Shackleton, a friend of the Dowager (Maggie Smith).

I'm curious how many of our readers watch Downton Abbey. So if you do, please let us know! If you don't, you should give it a try. It might surprise you. I'll be honest though, the last episode of season 3 left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope season 4 will be able to hold my interest because one of my favorite characters won't be there.

Detroit is going to be getting a 10-foot-tall bronze statue of RoboCop, and here are the photos of what it's going to look like. This is a prototype that is eventually going to get bronzed before it's erected. 

The money to do all this came from a Kickstarter campaign. The original sculpt was created by Fred Barton. Across The Board Creation then took the sculpt, did some 3D scanning, digital enlarging, and physical fabrication, and assembled the statue you see in these photos in foam, wax, clay, and steel. All that's left is the bronzing job.

It's pretty awesome and crazy that the city of Detroit approved this statue. It's very rare to see a fictional character get his own city statue. After all, RoboCop only protected the city of Detroit in the movies. Look over the photos and let us know what you think of the design.

Another fun clip from the great looking magical heist film Now You See Me has been released. It features a group of Vegas illusionists who call themselves The Four Horsemen (Isla Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco). They pull off a Paris vault teleportation trick that ends with them showering their audience with money. I'm looking forward to seeing how this story all plays out. I imagine there will be a lot of fun unexpected twists and turns. 

The movie was directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk), and it also stars Mark Ruffalo, Melanie Laurent, Common, Michael Kelly, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman. Now You See Me is set to appear in theaters on May 31st! If you haven't seen the first four minutes of the film yet, you can check it out here!

Now You See Me pits an elite FBI squad in a game of cat and mouse against 'The Four Horsemen,' a super-team of the world's greatest illusionists. 'The Four Horsemen' pull off a series of daring heists against corrupt business leaders during their performances, showering the stolen profits on their audiences while staying one step ahead of the law.

First of all, this clip contains SPOILERS! It's such a great scene though that features Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison explaining to Kirk and Spock why he did what he did. Cumberbatch acts the shit out of this scene! It's such a powerful performance... I can't wait to see more! Check it out if you don't mind SPOILERS.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
