THE MATRIX: Retold By Someone's Mom (Animated)

Will Smith must have been referring to movies when he said "parents just don't understand". I remember asking my parents what they thought of Inception. My father is quoted below.

It's pretty much the same as that No Country For Old Men. No one tells you what happens, and it gets stupid when they start walking on the walls.

Confusing plot lines can take away anyone's enjoyment of the film, but having them retell it can entertain others to no end. Take this video, for example, where this guy's mom retells The Matrix. It's absolutely hilarious.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - New Concept Art and Details

We've some more info from Marvel president Kevin Feige on James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. In an interview with EW, he discusses what he likes about the story, and what we can expect to see in it. He also talks about Chris Pratt's character in the film, and why he was cast as Star-Lord.

As for the new piece of concept art above it features a young Peter Quill with his first close encounter on Earth, before he is whisked away to the far reaches of the galaxy. Here's what Feige has to say about how the movie fits in with the rest of the Marvel cinematic universe, and teases the story and characters a little.

Guardians takes place within the continuity of the [other movies] but it’s on the other side of the universe. We’ve always wanted to do a space movie. I’m obsessed with Star Wars, I’m obsessed with Star Trek.

It’s a huge story on a massive canvas. We can take it to all those crazy places as long as all the characters respond in an emotionally truthful way. That’s why I believe people are going to respond to Chris Pratt and to an alien Zoë Saldana—because they did respond to that one time before [with Avatar]. And to a tree and a raccoon who, it is certainly our intention, will steal the whole movie.

On top of Pratt and Saldana, the film will also star Lee Pace as the villain, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Michael Rooker as Yondu, and Ophelia Lovibond as an aid to The Collector. I like that they cast Pratt in the lead role in the film. I think he's going to be great. Feige goes on to talk about him saying,

He’s a hilariously frumpy, doofy guy in Parks and Rec, and he’s an incredibly kickass ripped guy in Zero Dark Thirty and that’s pretty awesome. He’s going to need that in Guardians. That’s a big range right there.

We did a lot of auditions, a lot of screen tests, just as we did for Thor, just as we did for Cap. [Pratt] was hilarious, he was moving, he was … you bought him in the early versions of the outfit.

As for why they cast Bautista in the film he said,

One of the reasons Bautista got the part was because his banter, and ad libs, and screen tests with Pratt were awesome.

I'm excited to see whom they end up casting in the role of the genetically engineered gunslinging varmint Rocket Racoon, and the giant fighting tree Groot.

The movie is scheduled to start shooting in June, and it's set to be released on August 1st, 2014. This movie is going to be a huge hit!

Reese Witherspoon Joins Keanu Reeves in PASSENGERS

Reese Witherspoon is in talks to join Keanu Reeves in the Brian Kirk-directed sci-fi romance film Passengers. The story "follows a spacecraft transporting thousands of people to a distant colony planet that has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers. As a result, a single passenger (Reeves) is awakened 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he eventually decides to wake up a second passenger, marking the beginning of what becomes a unique love story."

Witherspoon would play the second female passenger that Reeves wakes up. It should be interesting see these two actors work together. This has potential to be a really cool movie. Kirk is the same guy who has directed episodes of Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire

Kevin Feige Offers an Update on Marvel's ANT-MAN Movie

The first movie that's been officially announced by Marvel for their phase three plan is Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. It will be the first movie we see after The Avengers 2. That being the case, I think it's safe to assume that Ant-Man will be a part of The Avengers sequel.

Wright has been working on the script for Ant-Man since before the first Iron Man movie was made. Since then, the Marvel cinematic universe has grown, and Kevin Feige has revealed that the script is going through a re-write so that it can be fit in with the rest of the universe. When talking to EW he said,

Frankly, now we have to re-write it to put it a little bit more into the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] because it was written before it existed.

As most of you know, there's some test footage that's been screened for the film at certain conventions and film festivals, it even leaked out online at one point. If you haven't had the chance to see it, take my word for it when I tell you it's awesome.

Wright is anxious to start shooting the film, which is scheduled to start next year. They have yet to cast the lead role though, and here's what he had to say about that...

We’ve talked about various names over the past eight years but as you can imagine they keep changing as time goes by. But towards the end of this year, we’ll buckle down and start casting and start refining the script, which is great and which is very Edgar. He has done a great job being incredibly true to the comics but is putting his own spin on it, so we’ll be drawing on multiple mythologies for this one.

As silly as an Ant-Man movie might sound, it's going to be crazy entertaining. Especially with Wright at the wheel. When talking about the test footage that was shot Feige says,

Sometimes we take it for granted that people know what we’re doing, Some people don’t get it: ‘Ant-Man …? Is that goofy? What? He talks to ants? What is this…?’ The test real fixes that, Feige says: “Then they suddenly go, ‘Ohhh…’

Ant-Man is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6th, 2015!

Lily Collins to Star in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES

Mirror Mirror star Lily Collins is set to star in the big screen adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith‘s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It's also being reported that Burr Steers (17 AgainCharlie St. Cloud) is going to direct it. So basically what could have been a really good movie, is going to end up being mediocre.

At least it will be developed from a script that David O. Russell wrote when he was attached to it, so that's a plus. Natalie Portman is also still attached as a producer. She and Russell were originally attached to the movie way back in 2009. It's crazy that the movie is taking so long to get to the big screen.

The book is an expanded version of the Jane Austen classic. It tells the story of a woman’s quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers.

What are your thoughts on Lily Collins taking on the lead role in the movie? How do you think it will turn out? Do you think this new team of talent is eventually going to fall apart as well?

Daniel Radcliffe Cast in Crime Thriller TOKYO VICE

$

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has been cast in a new crime thriller called Tokyo Vice, which is being directed by music video and commercial director Anthony Mandler. The movie is based on the memoir of an American reporter named Jake Adelstein, and the script for the film was written by JT Rogers. This sounds like a very intriguing story.

According to the report, Radcliffe will play Adelstein who, "while working at the Yomiuri Shinbun newspaper in Tokyo, covered the crime beat and locked horns with yakuza boss Tadamasa Goto, called the 'John Gotti of Japan.' It details how the journalist’s investigating and finally exposing the notorious gangster exacted a high personal cost and sacrifice which included death threats. Adelstein, who will be working with Rogers on the story, is still an investigative reporter who writes for The Daily Beast, The Japan Times, The Atlantic Wire, and is an adviser to Polaris Japan, a non-profit group that combats human trafficking."

Radcliffe has been keeping busy since Harry Potter has ended. He recently wrapped the horror film Horns, and the romantic comedy The F Word. He has also signed on to play Igor in the Frankenstein movie for FOX. This Tokyo Vice film seems like the best project he's taken on yet.

Here's the official description from the book:

A riveting true-life tale of newspaper noir and Japanese organized crime from an American investigative journalist.

Jake Adelstein is the only American journalist ever to have been admitted to the insular Tokyo Metropolitan Police Press Club, where for twelve years he covered the dark side of Japan: extortion, murder, human trafficking, fiscal corruption, and of course, the yakuza. But when his final scoop exposed a scandal that reverberated all the way from the neon soaked streets of Tokyo to the polished Halls of the FBI and resulted in a death threat for him and his family, Adelstein decided to step down. Then, he fought back. In Tokyo Vice he delivers an unprecedented look at Japanese culture and searing memoir about his rise from cub reporter to seasoned journalist with a price on his head.

New Trailer for WHITE HOUSE DOWN with Tatum and Foxx

$

The latest trailer for Roland Emmerich's action movie White House Down includes a lot more action, fun character interaction, and as you'd expect from Emmerich, the destruction of famous Washington DC landmarks. I'm convinced that Emmerich picks out a part of the world he wants to destroy, and then builds a story around it. He doesn't make the best movies or tell the greatest stories, but they are big crazy CGI filled adventures that people watch, and they make money. That being said White House Down does look like it could be one of his better, more entertaining movies.

Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.

The film also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins, and James Woods. It's set to hit theaters on June 28th, 2013. Check out the latest trailer!

Stephen King's JOYLAND to get Big Screen Treatment by Tate Taylor

The Help writer and director Tate Taylor has optioned the rights to Stephen King's upcoming novel Joyland, and he's looking to adapt the unpublished work into a feature film. The book won't be published until June, but I'm a huge King fan, and I'll be reading it as soon as it's released. If it's good, I'll also be anticipating the release of the movie! This is going to be a classic King story.

Set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, Joyland tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever.

I love the carnival setting, and like most of King's work, I'm sure this is going to make for a solid movie. I also think Tate is a talented director, and he'll end up doing an amazing job with it. Here's what King had to say about his upcoming story...

I love crime, I love mysteries, and I love ghosts. That combo made Hard Case Crime the perfect venue for this book, which is one of my favorites. I also loved the paperbacks I grew up with as a kid, and for that reason, we’re going to hold off on e-publishing this one for the time being. Joyland will be coming out in paperback, and folks who want to read it will have to buy the actual book.

Taylor is also developing a James Brown biopic with Brian Grazer and Mick Jagger.

Warner Bros. has released yet another character poster for The Hangover Part III with mad man Mr. Chow. This guy has always been nothing but trouble for The Wolfpack, but they can't escape him. I love the tag line on the poster though that says, "We're Gonna Die Finally."

"This time, there's no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off."

The movie also stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Jeffrey Tambor, Justin Bartha, John Goodman, Sasha Barrese, Gillian Vigman, and Jamie Chung

The Hangover Part III hits theaters on May 24th!

Jon Hamm Joins Despicable Me Spinoff MINIONS

Mad Men star Jon Hamm joins Sandra Bullock in illumination Entertainment and Universal Picture's Despicable Me spin-off film Minions. Bullock will voice Scarlet Overkill in the film, "a stylish bad-ass super-villain who is (what else?) bent on world domination." Hamm will play her husband, an inventor named Herb Overkill.

This spinoff establishes that Minions have existed since the beginning of time, in service of history’s most ambitiously evil villains. Through their lovable ineptitude, Minions have managed to thwart and ultimately kill all of those bad guys. This story picks up in the 1960s, before they hench-ed for Gru. After wiping out all their masters, the Minions fall into a collective depression and three of them set out to seek a new evil master. They wind up at a villain convention, where they compete for the right to be henchmen for Scarlet Overkill, whose Audrey Hepburn-like high style appearance belies her world domination ambition and her aspirations to become the world’s first female super-villain.

The 3D CG animated comedy is set to be release on December 19th, 2014.

Jessica Chastain to Join Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR

Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain is in talks to join Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated, mind-bending sci-fi project Interstellar. There's not much known about the movie, and I imagine Nolan will keep as much of it hidden from the world as he possibly can. All we know so far, is that it's based on the scientific theories developed by Cal Tech physicist, Kip Thorne, and the story follows a group of explorers who travel through a wormhole. It's also previously been described as "a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding."

Chastain would be the third lead character in the film. Nolan rounded himself up a strong cast of actors, and I'm sure the movie is going to end up being fantastic!

J.J. Abrams Lives His Dream and Visits the DOWNTON ABBEY Set

You may or may not know this, but J.J. Abrams is a huge fan of the PBS show Downton Abbey. He previously revealed to Empire Magazine that it would be his dream to visit the set of the series, which he actually did recently! Here's what he said...

I’m a huge – almost to an embarrassing degree – fan of Downton Abbey. I find myself pathetically addicted to that series….I just want to guest-direct an episode of Downton Abbey. I would, seriously….I don’t think they would have me. But I would be honored. I just want to visit the set maybe. It would be my dream in life. I’m not kidding you!

Above, you'll find Abrams living out his dream. I thought this was pretty funny and worth sharing.

I'm hooked on Downton Abbey, as well. It's a really good series with interesting characters. You should check it out if you haven't already.

When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. As part of the Star Trek Into DarknessAre You the 1701?” viral campaign, Paramount Pictures sent out 3D glasses to those who were part of the select group of people. I got mine! This was in preparation for the official 3D trailer that was released recently. To be able to view it in all it's 3d glory you'll need a pair of old school red and blue 3d glasses. It's kind of funny because when we had our GeekTyrant store we were actually selling those.

There's no new footage in the trailer. It's basically the newest trailer that was released only it's in 3D. So I guess if you've got a pair of 3D glasses laying around somewhere you might as well check it out.

Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman is the latest actor to join David Ayer's upcoming World War II tank thriller Fury. He will join Brad Pitt and Shia LeBeouf in the really cool sounding film. According to the report, Lerman will play a character named Norman Ellison, "an Army typist and the youngest and most inexperienced member of the crew who is thrust into being a tank gunner."

The story is set in 1945 as Nazi Germany collapses and the five-man crew of an American tank called Fury battles a desperate German army. The director previously said that the goal is to "bring a fresh execution to the genre," adding, "What these men went through is worthy of a complex, honest portrayal. This will have incredible, visceral action and complex rich characters. I plan to bring tank combat to life in a way that lands with a modern audience."

Lerman is a fantastic young actor, and this is going to be a great film project for him to be apart of. He recently starred in the movie Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is a movie you should watch if you haven't already.

PUSHING DAISIES Movie Would Tell a Different Kind of Zombie Story

$

I've always been rooting a Pushing Daises movie since the series ended, but now that I know what it will be about I really want it to happen! In a recent interview with Den of GeekPushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller talked about Kickstarting it, and revealed the it would be a different kind of zombie movie explaining,

If we were able to pull off the Kickstarter, there’s a very fun zombie film that starts with a flash-flood in a cemetery and basically is about those denizens of that cemetery having to kill Ned before he can kill them, so it’s a different kind of zombie movie.

I hope he's serious because that sounds like an amazing film! It would get all of our favorite characters that we've been introduced to throughout the series back into action. When asked if the zombies would be fast Fuller responded with "I think fast, I think because it’s the Pushing Daisies rules so Chuck is, you know, alive."

I hope more than ever now that this movie happens! I'm not sure why it already hasn't been done. Studios should be jumping all over this thing. He doesn't need a Kickstarter to get it going. Zombies are huge right now, and Pushing Daises has a solid fan base. What the hell are they waiting for? It's annoying when studios have a good thing staring them right in the face, and they choose to ignore it and throw their money at some piece of crap.

What do you think of Fuller's PUSHING DAISIES zombie idea?

Michael Mann To Direct Historical Battle Film AGINCOURT

$

0

Michael Mann is set to direct a big screen adaptation of the Bernard Cornwell novel Agincourt from a script written by Stuart Hazeldine. The last movie Mann directed was Public Enemies, and it's going to be good to see him make another historical epic. He hasn't done one since Last of the Mohicans in 1992, which is one of my favorite movies of his.

The story follows "an archer who comes of age under Henry V as the king prepares to lead his outnumbered English troops against the French in the Battle Of Agincourt. The protagonist is a young man with a death sentence on his head who is saved when his skills with the bow catch the attention of the king. The archer develops into a warrior and falls in love with a young woman whose virtue he saved from a lecherous priest. He becomes the portal to the bloody battle."

I'm sure Mann will do great things with this story and turn it into a hell of an entertaining movie. He's also currently developing a cyber crime thriller for Legendary Pictures with Chris Hemsworth

Here's the book description for Agincourt, and let us know if you're excited to see Mann direct this historical battle film.

Agincourt (Azincourt in French) is one of the most famous battles ever fought; the victory of a small, despised, sick and hungry army over an enemy that massively outnumbered it. Azincourt, the novel coming soon, tells the story of that small army; how it embarked from England confident of victory, but was beaten down and horribly weakened by the stubborn French defence of Harfleur.

By the end of that siege common-sense dictated that the army sail for home, but Henry V was stubbornly convinced that God was on his side and insisted on marching from Harfleur to Calais to prove that he could defy the great French army that was gathering to crush him. He believed he could evade that army, but the march, like the siege, went disastrously wrong and the English were trapped and so forced to fight against an enemy that outnumbered them six to one.

Azincourt is the tale of Nicholas Hook, an archer, who begins the novel by joining the garrison of Soissons, a city whose patron saints were Crispin and Crispinian.

What happened at Soissons shocked all Christendom, but in the following year, on the feast day of Crispin and Crispinian, Hook finds himself in that small army trapped at Azincourt. The novel is the story of the archers who helped win a battle that has entered legend, but in truth is a tale, as Sir John Keegan says, ‘of slaughter-yard behaviour and outright atrocity’.

INJUSTICE GODS AMONG US - My Alternate Costume Nominees

$

0

Well, we already have a sneak peek at the first batch of costume DLC for Injustice, which by the clues I can only guess are:

1. Cyborg: Teen Titans Classic

Already revealed. Not crazy about it, but it does deserve to be included (just not the biggest Cyborg fan in general).

2. Harley Quinn: Classic Costume

Already revealed. Completely Classic, and a great addition.

3. Wonder Woman: JMS Reboot Costume (or Wonder Woman #600)

Already revealed. Frankly, I loved that costume however briefly it was actually used.

4. Deathstroke: Teen Titans Classic

Slade's classic 80's and early 90's look. Gotta love those awesome Fanta boots.

So, if that's the case for this first batch, then what's left? I'm glad you asked, as it gives me a reason to put a fun little wish list together. Here are my nominations.

Superman: Electric Blue

Let me start by saying this is not a story point that I loved, but that's not what we're nominating. The discussion today is great looks for the characters, or at least memorable. I think we can agree the Electric Boogaloo look was certainly that. It would also be interesting to see the little electric effects coming off of the costume (ala flash, but blue! I know, I'm easily amused).

Batman: Batman of Zur-en-arrh

This costume came to prominence during Grant Morrison's Batman R.I.P. story arc, where it served as a backup personality in case he suffered psychological trauma. The costume was used before then, but most know it from that storyline. It's zany enough to be included. The clincher though would be if NetherRealm threw in a small bat mite flying near his head during the match--as he frequently nagged him during his time as Zur-en-arrh.

Aquaman: New 52

There is just something perfect about classic Aquaman, and the New 52 modernizing of his uniform is quite impressive, mostly because it doesn't screw up a good thing. The Injustice options so far are sub par, personally, and just don't work for me. Give me modern classic and I'll be happy.

Catwoman: Animated Series Grey

There was already a version of this skin in Arkham City, and while I love the Injustice redesign as well as the Arkham City skin, there is a special place in my heart for the costume Ms. Kyle wore in the Animated Series. Sleek and simple, yet so cool. Love it.

Lex Luthor: Classic

It's amazing how bright and colorful comic characters of yore were. No one hesitated to use color combinations like bright purple and forest green or electric blue and bright pink on character's costumes, and Mr. Luthor himself is one of the best examples. Granted, the game already has a version of this, but with more modern colors. There is something to having this walking epilepsy warning diving across the screen though, so I think he deserves a nom.

Joker: Dark Knight Returns

Few versions of the Joker are as identifiable as Frank Miller's take on the character, especially from a visual standpoint. The white suit, the purple shoes, and the more imposing frame all come together to create a very memorable take on the crazy that is the Joker. I will say a close second was the inventive, to say the least, take from The Batman cartoon (you know, the Joker/Eddy Gordo combo that is awesome strictly because it caused that combination to exist).

Solomon Grundy: Justice League/Suit and Tie Grundy

One of the most memorable moments I have of Solomon Grundy is Brad Meltzer's JLA run that starred him as the intelligent yet brutish (R.I.P. Red Tornado's Hand btw) villain working things behind the scenes. I loved this take on the character, and to me it was the only time the character was actually threatening. I will admit though he has never been a huge favorite of mine, so I'm sure there are other great stories out there (i.e. Grundy Nerd Disclaimer). It's amazing how having a different costume might actually get me to try and learn a new character.

Last but not least, the Batman Flashpoint Skin was announced as part of the first compatibility pack. I liked the outfit in the comics, but it's also one that doesn't exactly knock me off my chair compared to some of Batman's other costumes over the years. I mean c'mon, this was chosen over Pilgrim Batman? Get serious.

What costumes would you like to see?
