L.A. CONFIDENTIAL Getting a TV Series Sequel

Back in 1997, James Ellroy's novel L.A. Confidential was adapted into a classic crime thriller directed by Chris Hanson, and it starred Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, and Kim Basinger. The film received 9 Oscar nominations, winning awards for Best Screenplay and Best Supporting actress (Basinger).

We're now going to get to get a sequel to this noir story. It's coming to us in the form of a TV series, and why the hell not? A lot of the TV shows being made these days are better than the movies that are getting made. Plus they get to tell a bigger story. Ellroy has teamed up with New Regency to make the series happen. Ellroy wrote the project on spec. They're currently shopping the series around and pitching it to broadcast and cable networks as well as emerging distribution platforms like Netflix. According to Deadline, multiple outlets are interested.

The sequel continues the themes and stories from L.A. Confidential, a murder mystery which examined the intersection of organized crime, police corruption, celebrity and tabloid journalism in 1950s Los Angeles.

About a week ago I watched the film again for the first time in years, and I forgot how good it was. If you haven't seen it in awhile, I suggest you revisit it. I'm excited that we'll get to see this story continue. Are you excited to hear that L.A. Confidential is getting a TV series?

Die Antwoord Will be in Neill Blomkamp's Sci-Fi Comedy CHAPPIE

There's hardly anything that's been revealed for Neill Blomkamp's next film Chappie. He's not saying anything. At this point, all we know is that it's a sci-fi comedy that centers on a "really ridiculous robot." It will also be shot in the same visual style as his other films that include District 9 and his upcoming movie Elysium

It was also recently revealed that the South African rap-rave group Die Antwoord are going to be in the film, and that they will play themselves. I don't know if you are familiar with the group or not, but they fit right in with Blomkamp's style.

What's funny is, in one of their songs, "Baby's On Fire", Visser spits out the lyrics, "Neill Blomkamp's makin' me a movie star," and the music video embed below includes an autographed photo of the director.

Another character poster for Star Trek Into Darkness has been released featuring Alice Eve as Carol Marcus. We've seen her screaming with fear and looking sexy, hopefully we also get to see her kick some ass, as well.

The movie hits theaters on May 17th, 2013! The film also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Jon Chu, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Bruce Greenwood, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Peter Weller.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot to Turn Stephen King's 11/22/63 into Series

J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot is in negotiations to acquire the rights to Stephen King's novel 11/22/63 so they can adapt it into a TV series or miniseries. This is one of King's novels that I haven't read yet, but the story centers on an unassuming divorced English teacher named Jake who stumbles upon a time portal that leads to 9/9/1958, which leads him on a quest to try and prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy which occurred on 11/22/1963. The series is set up over at Warner Bros. TV, and I think it's going to make for an incredible series! The project was originally set up as a film that was supposed to be directed by Jonathan Demme. Here's the description for the book:

Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer. Harry escaped with a smashed leg, as evidenced by his crooked walk.

Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake’s life—a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time."

Dwayne Johnson Was Offered TRANSFORMERS 4 Role Before Mark Wahlberg

During a recent "Rock Talk" question and answer Twitter session with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the actor revealed that Michael Bay asked him to star in Transformers 4 before making the offer to his Pain & Gain co-star Mark Wahlberg. He wasn't able to do it due to his commitment to Brett Ratner's Hercules film. In his own words...

Michael Bay offered me Transformers, but I was unavailable due to Hercules. Then Wahlberg was offered the role.

Personally, I think Johnson should have taken Transformers over Hercules. Out of the two movies, Transformers is sure to be the better film and bigger moneymaker. Johnson has had his share of terrible movies. I imagine Hercules will just be another notch in his belt. It would be great if it ends up being better than how I imagine it turning out!

Transformers 4 will also star Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, and Stanley Tucci. The film is set to hit theaters June 27th, 2014.

Do you think TRANSFORMERS 4 would be better with Johnson on board instead of Wahlberg?

Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis Reteam for OBAMA Biopic

Last night, during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Steven Spielberg announced that he would be teaming back up with Daniel Day-Lewis to bring us an Obama biopic. We even get our first look at "Day-Lewis" as Obama, and he talks about his transformation into the president. This video announcement is pretty funny, and I'm sure you'll get a kick out of it.

This is hands down the most bizarre retelling of The Lord of the Rings that I've ever seen. The animated video is called King of Teh Ringz Triduum, and it's just one of those things you have to experience. The video is pretty old, but I'd bet that a lot of you have never seen it before. This thing is so ridiculously hilarious. I hope you enjoy it!

The Fundamental Guide to KICKING ASS Short Film - HILLBILLIES

Here's a fun, violent short film that teaches you how to kick hillbilly ass! The short was directed by Michael Ashton of LazyTeenageSuperhero, and it's the first episode of a new web-series they created called The Fundamental Guide to KICKING ASS. This first one deals with hillbillies, but it safe to say that they're going to show us how to kick the asses of several different kinds of people. Now I don't condone anyone going around shooting and killing hillbillies, but it's still an entertaining little short. Check it out!

Beautiful MAGIC THE GATHERING Art - Chandra Nalaar: Ignite Your Spark

Check out this fantastic piece of art created by Cryptcrawler for Magic the Gathering's 2014 "Duels of the Planeswalkers" campaign. It features Chandra Nalaar, and it's called "Ignite Your Spark." I don't play Magic the Gathering, but I absolutely love this illustration. Maybe it's because I have a thing for red heads.

For those of you like me who aren't really familiar with the character from the game, here's a description:

Chandra Nalaar is a red-magic-wielding planeswalker. Her specialty is pyromancy: spells of fire, fire, and more fire.

There's no virtue in subtlety—at least not as far as the fire-mage Chandra Nalaar is concerned. Impulsive, passionate, and short-tempered, she's as ready to explode as the pyromantic spells of her ever-growing repertoire. Chandra's spark ignited when she was still quite young, and as she has grown, so have her abilities as a wielder of fire magic and as a planeswalker.

As a source of immense and unpredictable power, authority figures have sought to restrict and control Chandra, which comes into direct conflict with her need for independence and freedom. As Chandra's wild inner fire comes in contact with world after world of rules and strictures, the results are sure to be explosive.

MAN OF STEEL - Amy Adams Discusses Her Take on Lois Lane

In a recent interview with Empire, Amy Adams discussed how her new, modern take on Lois Lane differs from the way the character has been portrayed in the past by other actresses. You many or may not know this, but Adams has auditioned for the role of Lois Lane two times before with two separate Superman film productions before she landed it in Man of Steel. I like the fact she was cast in the movie, I'm sure she'll end up being perfect in the film. When talking about the character she said,

I have always identified with Lois. She is suited to my personality. When she came up for the third time, I was like, 'Okay, this is ridiculous. I have to play Lois'. I know other people have played the role, and others will play the role after me, but this was me putting my stamp on it.

She goes on to say that Man of Steel will feature a Lois Lane who is an "independent, feisty woman... but set in a more identifiable world." That's always been a good description of Lane, but this time around she won't be the damsel in distress that we've seen before like with Margot Kidder. Adams goes on to reveal more about how the character has changed...

I loved that version, but we have moved on. She has become more a free ranging journalist, someone who likes to be hands on. The nature of the newspaper business has changed so much. There is so much more pressure.

She doesn't really give anything away, but when asked about her and Clark's relationship she says that it's "a strong friendship." Of course their relationship in strong. It's good to know they didn't change that aspect of the story and characters.

Here's a fantastic Judge Dredd illustration created by CGHUB artist Aleksi. Dredd is such a cool comic book character, and I really liked the movie that was made recently that starred Karl Urban. I'd love to see a sequel. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like that's going to happen anytime soon. Maybe one day.

Michael Bay Clarifies That NINJA TURTLES Origin Includes the Ooze

Remember that time when Michael Bay said that the Ninja Turtles would come from an alien race in his new adaptation of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Well, since then, the movie was put on hold so the script could be rewritten. Now Bay is saying that the Turtles were never going to be aliens in the first place, he just never corrected himself... which we all know is B.S., but here's what he told Moviefone in a recent interview,

There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We're not, It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great.

Yes, he did listen to the fans after they wanted his blood for turning them into aliens. Then he changed the origin story from being aliens back to the ooze when they rewrote the script. I think it's funny that Bay treats the audience like they are stupid. Regardless of the lies, I'm happy to hear that the ooze has been added back into the story and that they will be mutants and not aliens.

The film is set to be directed by Jonathan Liebesman from a script written by Josh Appelbaum, Andrew Nemec, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and John Fusco. As of right now, it stars Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Will Arnett in an unspecified role, and Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter.

Bay then went on to talk a little bit about Transformers 4 and the redesigns for the robots,

You know there are a couple of historians of Transformers. I would do my designs of the robots and they’re like, 'What if you just add a little bit more ears to Optimus?' But they’re really hands off. We’ve redesigned them in 'Transformers 4,' and there’s some really cool s-t in it. I’m literally redesigning every character, top to bottom. There’s a reason why they’re redesigned, but it’s also to keep it new and fresh to me. I think the fans will appreciate some of this new stuff we have in the movie and some of the new characters.

I'm curious to see how these new designs turn out! I never really cared for the robot designs in the first three films. The movie stars Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz and Stanley Tucci.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to be released on June 6th, 2014, and Transformers 4 will be released on June 27th.

Thanks to a meal card from Carl's Jr. we have a new image from Man of Steel featuring a good look at Zod wearing his helmet. Is it just me, or does it kind of have similarities to the Space Jockey from the Alien franchise? Either way, Michael Shannon is going to own this role. The movie hits theaters on June 14th!

A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

Warner Bros. has released another character poster for The Hangover Part III featuring John Goodman's ruthless looking character. If you've seen the trailer, then you know it seems like he's going to make the Wolfpack's lives a living hell.

This is the final chapter in director Todd Phillips' Wolfpack adventure, and it seems like it's going to be a Vegas burning conclusion. "This time, there's no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off."

The movie also stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, Justin Bartha, Sasha Barrese, Gillian Vigman, and Jamie Chung

Another Earth director Mike Cahill is prepping up to shoot his next film, I Origins, and he's got his cast! Michael Pitt (Boardwalk Empire), Brit Marling (Another Earth), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife), and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey will star in the film.

Cahill also wrote the script for the movie, and according to the report, "Pitt plays a molecular biologist who, together with his brilliant lab partner (Marling) uncovers startling evidence that may fundamentally change society as we know it."

Cahill has an interesting imagination. I liked what he did with his sci-fi drama Another Earth, and I'm curious to see what exactly he's got planned for this one. I have no doubt that it will make audiences think.

There's a lot of Spider-Man awesomeness going on in New York right now, and we've got a few more photos from the set of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 featuring Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man and Jamie Foxx's Max Dillon. The Marc Webb-directed film also stars Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, Colm Feore, and Sally Field. It's set to be released on May 2nd, 2014. I'm glad they went with the more classic Spider-Man costume this time around.

This bit of news really isn't that surprising, but it's a good piece of news none-the-less. Director Neill Blomkamp launched Sharlto Copley's acting career with District 9. Copley also plays the villain in the director's upcoming movie Elysium. According to EW, Blomkamp is bringing the actor along for his third feature film adventure, which will be a sci-fi comedy called Chappie

At this point, all we know is that it's a sci-fi comedy that centers on a "really ridiculous robot." It will also be shot in the same visual style as his other films.

It was also recently revealed that the South African rap-rave group Die Antwoord are going to play themselves in the film, which should be interesting.
