Listen, love, and get lucky! Random Access Memories (their new album) comes out May 21st, so be ready!

Will We See a CAPTAIN AMERICA Peggy Carter Short at Comic-Con?

0
0

According to Hayley Atwell, we're going to get to see a new Marvel short film featuring the character she played in Captain America: The First Avenger, Peggy Carter. While talking to The Age she also said that the short would premiere at Comic-Con. Here's what she had to say...

There’s been an online campaign for Peggy to be featured. People really liked her. So Marvel have made sure that as part of Comicon there will be a little kind of snapshot as to what Peggy’s actually really capable of, which was finished here and which was great fun. Hopefully, it will lead to other things.

There's no word on what the plot of the film is, but I imagine it might be some kind of bridge between the first Captain America movie and the upcoming sequel. Atwell is set to make a cameo appearance in The Winter Soldier. I liked Atwell as Carter, and it will be fun to see her back in the role.

You may or may not have heard that she is also currently campaigning to land the part of Lara Croft, which would be pretty cool as well.

Martin Scorsese Will Finally Direct SILENCE

0
0

Legendary Director Martin Scorsese has been trying to make his big screen adaptation of Silence since 1991, and it looks like he's finally going to do it! The book was written by Shusaku Endo, and it centers on 17th century Jesuits who risk their lives to bring Christianity to Japan. Scorsese also wrote the script for the film with Jay Cocks. Apparently the project is coming together fast, and the plan is to shoot the movie in Taiwan in July 2014.

Scorsese has been extremely passionate about the project, and it's exciting that he's finally going to get to make it. When asked about the project in an interview with Deadline the directed explained,

My initial interests in life were very strongly formed by what I took seriously at that time, and 45-50 years ago I was steeped in the Roman Catholic religion. As you get older, ideas go and come. Questions, answers, loss of the answer again and more questions, and this is what really interests me. Yes, the Cinema and the people in my life and my family are most important, but ultimately as you get older, there’s got to be more. Much, much more. The very nature of secularism right now is really fascinating to me, but at the same time do you wipe away what could be more enriching in your life, which is an appreciation or some sort of search for that which is spiritual and transcends? That’s one of the reasons why I made the George Harrison documentary. Silence is just something that I’m drawn to in that way. It’s been an obsession, it has to be done and now is the time to do it. It’s a strong, wonderful true story, a thriller in a way, but it deals with those questions.

I have no doubt Scorsese will turn this story into a great movie. Here's the full description of the story from the book:

Young Portuguese Jesuit, Sebastião Rodrigues (based on the historical figure Giuseppe Chiara) is sent to Japan to succor the local Church and investigate reports that his mentor, Fr. Cristóvão Ferreira, has committed apostasy. (Ferreira is a historical figure, who apostatized after torture and later became a Zen monk and wrote a treatise against Christianity.)

Fr. Rodrigues and his companion Fr. Francisco Garrpe arrive in Japan in 1638. There they find the local Christian population driven underground. Security officials force suspected Christians to trample on fumie, which are crudely carved images of Christ. Those who refuse are imprisoned and killed by anazuri (穴吊り), being hung upside down over a pit and slowly bled. Those Christians who do step on the image to stay hidden are deeply shamed by their act of apostasy. The novel relates the trials of the Christians and increasing hardship suffered by Rodrigues, as more is learnt about the circumstances of Ferreira's apostasy. Finally, Rodrigues is betrayed by the Judas-like Kichijiro. In the climax, as Rodrigues looks upon a fumie, Christ breaks his silence:

"Yet the face was different from that on which the priest had gazed so often in Portugal, in Rome, in Goa and in Macau. It was not Christ whose face was filled with majesty and glory; neither was it a face made beautiful by endurance to pain; nor was it a face with strength of a will that has repelled temptation. The face of the man who then lay at his feet [in the fumie] was sunken and utterly exhausted…The sorrow it had gazed up at him [Rodrigues] as the eyes spoke appealingly: 'Trample! Trample! It is to be trampled on by you that I am here.'"

Disturbing Skin-Tight Spandex STAR WARS Costumes

Here's a set of disturbingly freakish, skin-tight spandex Star Wars costumes. I guess these would be good for all the lazy people out there that don't want to take the time to put on a real costume. I'm sure you'll be seeing several people wearing these things at a convention near you.

If you really want one, you can pre-order any of them on Costume Craze .

Will Ferrell and Jack Black Set To Play Epic Game of TAG

0
0

A couple of months ago we heard that a movie was going to be made about a 23-year-long game of tag that a group of friends, who call themselves the "Tag Brothers," have been playing since they were in high school. The Wrap is now reporting that Will Ferrell and Jack Black are attached to star in the film. When the movie was first announced it sounded like the kind of film that would pull in an ensemble comedy dream cast, and it looks like that's started.

The film will be adapted from a Wall Street Journal article that was just picked up by New Line Cinema. This is all based on real life events that are still going on today. Every February this group of friends continue to play their nationwide game of tag.

Now in their 40s, the former classmates have spread across the country in various fields (one’s a priest), but they stay in touch during the month of February by chasing each other across the country in an obsessive game of tag. They will jet cross country, break into each other’s homes, hide in the bushes until a target appears, or leave for a long vacation to avoid being tagged, all in the name of not ending up “It,” and having to wear that loser title a whole year.

I think this film concept has a lot of potential to be an incredible comedy. The article also reports that Ferrell and Black's future involvement is contingent on the screenplay, which is being written by Mark Steilen (Wieners, The Settlement). These guys seem like they will do anything even if the film is crappy, so I'm sure they'll end up doing it. I'm looking forward to seeing who else they cast in the film.

Tom Hiddleston Could End Up Playing THE CROW

Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston, is early talks to play Eric Draven in Relativity Media's upcoming reimagining of James O'Barr's gothic comic character, The Crow.

It's hard for me to imagine Hiddleston in this role, but apparently the actor has been pushing hard for the part. He even did his own makeup test and has had dinner with the producers to try and sell them on the idea. According to The Wrap, "he will undergo a proper makeup test in the coming days, as the character's appearance is important to fans of the franchise." I'd love to see what those makeup tests look like!

The new version of the film is set to be directed by Spanish filmmaker F. Javier Guttierez from a script by Cliff Dorfman (Warrior). They all hope to start production in the fall and are just waiting for the final makeup test before they make a final decision.

There's no doubt that Hiddleston is a talented actor, I love what he's done as Loki in the Marvel films. Even though I can't really imagine what he would be like as The Crow, I'm sure he'd end up being great in the role. What do you think of the idea of Hiddleston playing The Crow?

First Clip from SUPERMAN: UNBOUND Animated Film

Warner Home Video has released the first film clip from DC Entertainment's new animated movie Superman: Unbound. It features Superman's first encounter with Brainiac, "a destructive force who has been devastating planets across the galaxy -- with Earth next in his sights."

I watched the movie up at WonderCon a few weeks ago, and it was actually quite entertaining. The story and script were solid, but the animation was really weak this time around.

The movie is partially based on the Geoff Johns and Gary Frank 2008 Action Comics storyline "Brainiac." Matt Bomer (White Collar) is the voice of Clark Kent/Superman, Stana Katic (Castle) plays Lois Lane, and Molly Quinn (Castle) is Supergirl with John Noble (Fringe) as Brainiac.

Check out this radical Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles illustration called Cold Pizza. It was created by Deviant Artist raps0n who says, "....even the world's most fearsome fighting team needs time to reflect." I enjoy the character designs and style of this piece. These turtles look like they could really strike fear in the hearts of men.

DEXTER Season 8 - New Trailer and Poster

The end of Dexter is coming fast! Before we know it the series will end, and we are either going to be very happy with the outcome, or very pissed off. Showtime has released a new trailer and promo poster for the season. The trailer is packed full of footage from season 8, and it gives us a good tease of what we can expect to see.

It's set to premiere on June 30th, 2013, and we've got 12 more episodes before the series ends. On top of the usual suspects, the final season stars Charlotte Rampling as a psychiatrist specializing in serial killers, and Sean Patrick Flanery as Deb’s new detective agency boss. Yvonne Strahovski is also set to make her return, which is what I was hoping for.

It was also revealed by executive producer Manny Coto in an interview with Deadline, that we could possibly see a spin-off series somewhere down the road.

There are all sorts of possibilities. All kinds of ideas have been discussed, but there is nothing happening right now. This season is about this season playing out the trajectory of the Dexter character.

Dexter's whole dynamic has changed; he's in a crazy intense situation where he's forced to survive. It will be interesting to see how he ends up dealing with all of these issues going on around him. How will it all end?! The anticipation is killing me!

MONSTERS UNIVERSITY - Mike Wazowksi gets Pranked in New Poster

The latest poster for Pixar's Monsters University features Mike Wazowksi at the center of a college prank, by being duct taped to a wall. Sulley is obviously going to have a lot of fun picking on Mike before they end up becoming the best of friends.

The full movie was screened at CinemaCon earlier this week, and the people who have seen it have nothing but good things to say about it. I loved the first movie, and from the sound of it this prequel is just as entertaining and heartfelt.

The movie hits theaters on June 21st, 2013, and it stars Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley, Julia Sweeney, Joel Murray, and Peter Sohn. To check out all of our Monsters University news click here.

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends. Screaming with laughter and fun, “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”) and produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”).

300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE - New Photos and Character Descriptions

0

The official website for 300: Rise of the Empire has been updated with some new photos an updated synopsis and character descriptions of descriptions of the hero of the story Themistocles, played by Sullivan Stapleton and the villain, Artemisia, played by Eva Green. It also looks like a character from Zack Snyder's first movie will be back.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

300: Rise of an Empire pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present, a Cruel and Unusual Films/Mark Canton/Gianni Nunnari Production, “300: Rise of an Empire.” The action adventure stars Sullivan Stapleton (Gangster Squad) as Themistokles and Eva Green (Dark Shadows, Casino Royale) as Artemisia. Lena Headey reprises her starring role from 300 as the Spartan Queen, Gorgo; Hans Matheson (Clash of the Titans) stars as Aeskylos; David Wenham returns as Dilios, and Rodrigo Santoro stars again as the Persian King, Xerxes.

The film is directed by Noam Murro, from a screenplay by Zack Snyder & Kurt Johnstad, based on the graphic novel Xerxes, by Frank Miller.

The synopsis reveals that David Wenham will be reprising his role as well. He's the one eyed warrior that narrated the first movie. The movie is set to be released on August 2nd, 2013. Here are the rest of the images and info!

Themistokles

Walking the line between savvy statesman and battle-hardened soldier, this Greek general has no illusions about what motivates men, kings or gods. He knows well how the game is played.

A master strategist, Themistokles holds an unflinching vision for the glory of Greece and will do whatever it takes to realize that vision—whether leading the charge on the battlefield or subtly working his influence behind the scenes.

Now, facing the onslaught of the massive Persian navy, he may be outnumbered but not out-maneuvered. Knowing there's more at stake here than his life and the lives of his men, he will gamble everything on a daring plan that could seal the fate of Greece and the future of democracy.

Sullivan Stapleton takes on the nuanced role and describes Themistokles as a "people person," just one of the many facets that make up this richly developed character—a man of wit and persuasive charm, as well as steely determination.

Artemisia

A woman commanding armies in a man's world, this skilled and ruthless warrior—the real power behind Xerxes' throne—knows that the rules have never applied to her. And never will. Meeting Themistokles head-on with the Persian armada, Artemisia will set the sea on fire, assaulting Greece not only for power and glory but for vengeance, the roots of which are known only to herself…and for which she is willing to sacrifice thousands and alter the fate of nations.

Bringing the volatile, vindictive and unapologetically ambitious warrior Artemisia to life is Eva Green, who says, "I love playing evil characters, but ones who are complex, and have a reason to behave in such a way… It's always more interesting."

TEEN WOLF's Dylan O'Brien Cast as Lead in THE MAZE RUNNER

0
0

Teen Wolf actor Dylan O'Brien is set to play the main character Thomas in 20th Century Fox's big screen adaptation of The Maze Runner. He joins previously cast actors Will Poulter, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. I've only watched one episode of Teen Wolf, so I'm not really sure how good an actor O'Brien is. It's interesting that they're filling this cast with a lot of actors who are not really that well known.

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world, and follows Thomas, "who after having his memory wiped is deposited in a community of boys trapped in an enormous maze. He soon learns they are part of a mysterious test, and finds it is his destiny to join the ‘maze runners’ and lead them to freedom."

The film is being directed by Wes Ball, and it's set to start filming this May in Baton Rouge. It's based on the first book of a trilogy by James Dashner. The movie will be released in theaters on February 14th, 2014. Here's the description...

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he's not alone. When the lift's doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they've closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

AFTER EARTH Release Date Moved Up to May 31st

0

M. Night Shyamalan's decent looking sci-fi adventure film After Earth has a new release date. Columbia Pictures has moved it up from June 7th to May 31th. It will now open up against the films Now You See Me and The Purge.

The movie stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith, and even though the movie looks like it could be good, I'm not going to get my hopes up. Shyamalan has failed to impress me for years. It's hard for me to believe that he's gotten any better as a filmmaker.

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.
