Whedon's AVENGERS 2 Idea Came Before He Figured out First One

We've got a couple bits of news on The Avengers 2 front from Joss Whedon in a recent interview he did with Entertainment Tonight. In it, he reveals that the movie will start shooting in February of 2014 and that he had an idea for the sequel before he even figured out what he was going to do in the first one. Here's what he said....

We should start shooting I think in February… I didn't think I was going to do the second, but I had an idea for it before I'd figured out the first one. You go into a movie not assuming there's going to be… I've seen plenty of movies that were the first part of the trilogy that never happened and it's terrible. You don't save anything for the trip back. Having said that, though, I did sort of know, 'Well, if they were to come back, I know what's going to happen… It's going to be awful.'

It's going to be great to see what he pulls together for this sequel. He's talked a lot about the tone and bringing in new characters, but it's going to be cool to see what story he ends up telling. I'm sure it'll end up being better than the first film.

The new trailer for Disney's The Lone Ranger is packed full of new footage featuring, guns, trains, explosions, more trains, shooting, and absolute chaos involving trains... it looks awesome! I've been hoping that this movie would end up being good, and it looks as if it is going to be an incredibly fun ride.

The Gore Verbinski-directed film stars Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson, and Helena Bonham CarterIt rides into theaters on July 3rd, 2013! Enjoy the newest trailer, I've also included a recent Q&A with the cast!

Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

Ed Brubaker Says CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 Is "The Best Marvel Movie"

Comic book writer Ed Brubaker, who created the Captain America: The Winter Soldier storyline recently did an interview with Paste Magazine in which he offers some very high praise for the upcoming sequel, calling it "the best Marvel movie." He also talks about the script, the tone of the film and its directors, Joe and Anthony Russo. This is what he said when he was asked how much involvement he had with the film...

I got to go out to Marvel Studios a couple months ago and read one of the later drafts of the script. I went out to dinner with [directors Joe and Anthony Russo] and talked about the project and gave them feedback on what I liked or didn't like or what parts didn't work. I mean, the script I read was fucking fantastic. It was the best Marvel movie. It was really strange because [the script] feels like my comic while not really telling the same story as my comic. It's got moments here and there where I was like, ‘hey, I wrote that.' But mostly, it's not what people think it's going to be. But the tone of it was so close to what [artist] Steve [Epting] and I were doing on that comic in the first few years, where it feels like an espionage story almost more than a superhero story [and] there's tons of action in it. I can't wait to see what they do with it.

Really, it's just that the Russos are fans of my comics and wanted me to come see what they were doing. I got to see the production art and stuff, which looks amazing. And I knew the screenwriters, I met them at the last Captain America movie and we kept in touch. I live in L.A. now and work here so I've seen those guys a little bit. I'm going to get to go out to the set a couple of times during the filming. I requested if I could come out for one of [Robert] Redford's days because he's an honorary Brubaker and I wanted to meet him. But yeah, I think I'm going to get to go out sometime during the last week of April for a day and then I'll be there for part of the filming in May. I'll get to watch some stuff. But really it's just the Russos and Kevin [Feige] being cool and letting me come to see stuff that I created get filmed. It's pretty awesome. But I wouldn't say I'm involved or anything. I'm not a consultant or anything like [Brian Michael] Bendis was.

This is his story, so of course he's going to call it the best Marvel movie. At the same time, I'm a huge Captain America fan, and The Winter Soldier storyline is pretty badass, so yeah, there's a good possibility that it could end up being the best Marvel movie! What do you think about what Brubaker had to say?

Trailer for Michael Bay's Pirate Series BLACK SAILS

Starz has released the first trailer for the Michael Bay produced pirate TV series called Black Sails. The story centers on the tales of Captain Flint and his men and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Treasure Island. It looks like it will be a great series! I'm looking forward to it!

Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.

The series stars Luke Arnold as John Silver, Zack McGowan as Captain Charles Vane, Toby Stephens as a rival pirate captain to the brilliant and feared Captain Flint, Hannah New as Eleanor Guthrie, a beautiful and determined young woman who runs the smuggling operation on New Providence, and Jessica Parker Kennedy who portrays Max, a tortured young prostitute who sees the dark side of New Providence.

Neil Marshall directed the first of eight episodes that Starz ordered, and it is being shot Cape Town, South Africa. The plan is to release the series sometime in 2014.

Awesome Trailer for R.I.P.D.

The first trailer for Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges' new supernatural action thriller R.I.P.D. has been released, and it looks entertaining as hell! It's like Men in Black meets Hellboy. From what I see in the trailer, director Robert Schwentke (RED) did a hell of job pulling it off. It looks a lot better than what I was expecting it to be, and I couldn't be happier that that's the case!

Nick is dead -- at least, that's how he remembers it -- and teams up with another deceased detective, a gunslinger from the Old West (played by Jeff Bridges), to work for the elite task force, the Rest In Peace Department (hence the title), to track down the dead on Earth. (Due to overpopulation, some unsettled spirits haven't gone where they're supposed to, and are hiding out). Technically, R.I.P.D. officers (who are overseen by (Mary-Louise Parker) aren't allowed to kill anyone living, and aren't supposed to interact with anyone from their previous lives, but Nick is haunted by the fact that he was murdered by another cop (played by Kevin Bacon), and can't let it go.

The movie also stars James Hong, Mary-Louise Parker, Robert Knepper, and Kevin Bacon. It opens in theaters in 3D on July 19th, 2013. Watch the trailer for yourself, and let us know if it got you excited for the movie!

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Shot for Shot Sweded Trailer

It can't be easy sweding a deep space epic sci-fi film like Star Trek Into Darkness, but the CineFix team managed to pull it off wonderfully with Hot Wheels cars, cardboard cityscapes, toys, and ship models. This is a shot for shot remake of the second full trailer that was released. I've also included a side-by-side comparison video as well.

Rupert Wyatt to Direct Crime Thriller NIGHT FILM

Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt is set to direct a noir style crime thriller called Night Film. The movie will be an adaptation of an upcoming book written by Marisha Pessl

The book isn't set to be released until August, but it "tells the story of an investigative journalist named Scott McGrath who begins looking into the death of a beautiful young woman that was originally deemed a suicide. The woman turns out to be the daughter of a reclusive, cult horror film director named Stanislas Cordova, and McGrath finds himself on a journey of revenge and truth."

Sounds like an interesting story. I love the tone of noir films, and this sounds like it's gonna be a really good one. I like the premise and setting of the story and I think this could end up being a really solid flick. I also love the fact that it revolves around a cult horror movie director.

TRANSFORMERS - Everything Wrong in 7-Minutes or Less

There's apparently so much wrong with Michael Bay's Transformers, that the latest CinemaSins video clocks in at around 7-minutes which is their longest movie mistakes video so far. Even though the Transformers films have been fun to watch, I still have never really embraced Bay's vision of these robots in disguise. This latest video breaks down all the ridiculous things in the first movie, they point out 78 of them.

Like Magic? Then Watch this Trailer for DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

One of my favorite things ever is magic. I love watching magicians do their thing, it's just so damn cool to see them pull off stuff that seems impossible. I love the feeling that I get when the impossible happens before my eyes. I've learned a few tricks over the years, but I know I'll never be as good as the guys that perform magic for a living.

This is a trailer for a new documentary that centers on world-renowned magician Ricky Jay, who is a master at his craft. According to the New Yorker he's considered to be "the most gifted sleight-of-hand artist alive."

Ricky Jay is a world-renowned magician, author, historian and actor (often a mischievous presence in the films of David Mamet and Paul Thomas Anderson)—and a performer who regularly provokes astonishment from even the most jaded audiences. DECEPTIVE PRACTICE traces Jay's achievements and influences, from his apprenticeship at age 4 with his grandfather, to such now-forgotten legends as Al Flosso, Slydini, Cardini and his primary mentors, Dai Vernon and Charlie Miller. Featuring rare footage from his 1970s TV appearances (doing 3-card Monte with Steve Martin on The Dinah Shore Show) and told in Jay's inimitable voice, this is a remarkable journey inside the secretive world of magic and the small circle of eccentrics who are its perpetual devotees.

Deceptive Practices is set to be released in New York tomorrow, April 17th. To find the release dates in other cities, head on over to the film’s official website. I'm looking forward to seeing this.

ZOMBIELAND TV Series Trailer and First Episode is Online

Amazon has released the first trailer for their new Zombieland series, and the first full episode has been released online. So if you like what you see in the trailer, you can click here to watch the pilot episode.

The series features the original characters from the movie that include Little Rock (Izabela Vidovic), Tallahassee (Kirk Ward), Wichita (Maiara Walsh), and Columbus (Tyler Ross) as they try to survive the crazy zombie apocalypse in which they live. The logline for the series says,

Adding new members to your post-apocalyptic 'family' isn’t as easy as it sounds. But at least sometimes you get pie.

The story is basically the same as the movie, and finds four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home. Creator Paul Wernick had this to say in a previous statement, "Zombieland will strive to break the rules—action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs and all packed into a half hour format. This is not your average show but Amazon is not your average network."

It looks like it could be a fun series. There are some fun moments that are included in the trailer, but it's just weird seeing different actors in the roles. Check it out and let us know if this is a show you'll be watching!

David Lowery to Adapt Brian Michael Bendis' TORSO

Ain't Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery is set to write and direct the big screen adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis' crime thriller graphic novel Torso. This movie has been in and out of development for over a decade. At one point, David Fincher was attached to direct it and Matt Damon was going to star. The movie ended up getting shut down due to the high budget, but it sure would have been great!

The film will depict the true story of Elliot Ness’ time after his Al Capone days, when he moved to Cleveland and got embroiled in the hunt of a serial killer who was leaving torsos in the river and taunting notes to police. 13 people were killed between 1934 and 1938, and they took place while Ness was city safety director. The murders were never solved.

Ain't Them Bodies Saints was a solid movie, and I'm sure Lowery will do a fine job adapting the comic for the big screen. He will be starting from scratch, and it will be developed as a lower-budget kind of indie style movie. I hope he can pull it off and turn it into a great movie! Bendis has been hoping the movie would eventually get made, and here's what he had to say...

It’s a cool true story that very little people know of. You think you know the story of Elliot Ness? You don't. You know the story of serial killers? You don't. And that’s how I kept the faith.

Here's a description of the graphic novel:

Cleveland: 1935. Eliot Ness, fresh from his legendary Chicago triumph over Al Capone and associates, set his sights on Cleveland and went on a crusade that matched, and sometimes even surpassed, his past accomplishments. Dismembered body parts have started washing up in a concentrated area of Lake Erie Sound. Their headless torsos have left no clues to their identity or the reason for death. Elliot Ness and his colorful gang of "The Unknowns" chased this killer through the underbelly of Cleveland for years. As far as the public was concerned he was never captured. But what really happened is even more shocking. This award-winning collection includes a historic photo essay of the actual murders. Torso was nominated for an International Horror Guild award for best graphic story and for 3 International Eagle Awards.

The world is turned upside down as one of earth’s greatest super heroes – Flash – wakes up devoid of his super powers in the all-new Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox – the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Original Animated Movies. Home Entertainment is proud to release this title as the next DC Universe Animated Original Movie.”

Primetime television stars Justin Chambers (Grey’s Anatomy) and Kevin McKidd (Grey’s Anatomy), the voices of Barry Allen/Flash and Thomas Wayne/Batman, respectively, unite with numerous greats of television and film to fashion the famed animated roles. New Promo Spot for Stephen King's UNDER THE DOME

CBS has released a new promo trailer for their new TV series Under The Dome, which comes from producers Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. This is one of my most anticipated series of the year. It centers on the town of Chester's Mill which ends up being trapped under a giant dome with no way in and no way out.

The series comes from Brian K. Vaughan of LOST. The director of the original The Girl with the Dragon TattooNiels Arden Ople, directed the first episode. I really enjoyed the book that the series is based off of, and it's sure to make for a solid series.

The sci-fi drama is set to premiere on Monday, June 24th at 10 pm. Check out the new trailer!

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a selectwoman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.

PACIFIC RIM Writer and OBLIVION Director Developing Sci-Fi Series for AMC

Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski and Pacific Rim writer Travis Beacham are teaming up to develop a new futuristic sci-fi police drama for AMC called Ballistic City.

The series is described as being a mix of Chinatown and Blade Runner, and it "tells the story of a former cop thrust into the criminal underworld of a city housed in a generational spaceship destined for an unknown world."

Beacham will obviously write the series, and Kosinski will direct it if it ends up moving into that phase of development. This sounds like it could be an awesome series, and the fact that AMC wants it is a plus because they develop quality shows. I'm excited to see how this show turns out.

What do you think of the concept for the show?

BREAKING BAD Will Be Back in August!

AMC has announced that their incredibly badass series Breaking Bad will be returning on August 11th, 2013! I'm not sure why we had to wait so damn long for the series to return, but there you have it! The beginning of the end is upon us. We've got eight more episodes to go before we learn what the fate of Walt and Jesse will be.

The network has also revealed a new show called Talking Bad, which is basically the same thing as The Talking Dead only they talk about all things Breaking Bad. Here's the info on that show...

AMC announces that it will air a special weekly, half-hour live after show to accompany the conclusion of its Emmy® Award-winning series, “Breaking Bad.” “Talking Bad” will analyze and dissect every detail of “Breaking Bad’s” final eight episodes beginning Sunday, August 11. “Talking Bad” will air at 11pm ET/PT, and will be produced by Michael Davies’ Embassy Row with Sony Pictures Television serving as the studio partner.

I don't watch The Talking Dead, so I imagine I won't watch Talking Bad either. I'm not really into those kinds of discussion shows, but I can't wait for Breaking Bad to start back up! I hope it has a great ending!

NBC's Superhero Drama HEROES Could Make a Comeback!

It looks like NBC's hit superhero series Heroes could end up making a comeback! MSN is currently in talks with the network to revive the series as an original program that would air on Xbox. Look, I liked Heroes just as much as the next fan, but the more the series went on the more is sucked. By its final season, I was so glad it was ending. I can't say that I'm very excited to hear that it might return, but if it does, maybe they can make it good. According to TV Line,

Details remain sketchy, but sources confirm that MSN is interested in relaunching the once red-hot NBC Universal franchise with new stories and heroes, while mixing in cameos from the original series’ cast (schedules and interest permitting). The talks are said to be in the preliminary stages.

Like Netflix and Amazon, Xbox entertainment studios is looking to incorporate original programming as well. Do you think Heroes is a show worth reviving? Personally, I think they should actually develop some real original programming, and not bring stuff back from the dead... unless it's Firefly, I'd be ok with that. Are there any other shows you'd rather see brought back to life?
