Nine international character posters have been released for Bong Joon-ho‘s upcoming post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer. The film has a great cast of actors that include Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Jamie Bell, Ewan Bremner, Ed Harris, Alison Pill, Octavia Spencer, and Song Kang-ho. Here's the synopsis...

Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.

Hopefully we get to see a trailer for the film sometime soon.

Anthony Mackie on His Role as The Falcon in CAPTAIN AMERICA 2

Anthony Mackie recently did an interview with Black Film in which he discussed his role as The Falcon in Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. One of the main things that he reveals is that the character will have a very prominent role in the story, which is great! Until now, we weren't sure how big of a role he would have. Here's what he had to say,

I’m happy to say that I’m in a good deal of the movie and I play an integral part with Captain America taking down the winter soldier. It’s great. They started the shoot 2 1/2 weeks ago and once I finished doing press for Pain & Gain, I go in and join them. I’ve been doing combat training and fitness training just to get prepared. It’s going to be something and I’m excited for it.

The actor goes on to address the concept art that was recently released for the character saying,

They just released pictures of the costume last week. It’s more of a military style tactical costume. He’s more along the lines of Captain America as far as superhero as opposed to a true superhero.

Mackie then says that he had never even heard of The Falcon until he was up for the part,

I had never heard of the Falcon. I knew nothing about him. Once they sent me the comic book and told me everything they wanted me to do, I read up some and looked up his story. I’m really excited. He’s a cool character and we need that. We that (black) superhero that looks like them.

Mackie is a solid actor, and I'm sure he'll end up giving an awesome performance. I'm looking forward to seeing the character in action. The movie is set to be released on April 4th, 2014, and it also stars Chris Evans, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Redford and Cobie Smulders

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick-up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Cillian Murphy Joins Johnny Depp in TRANSCENDENCE

Cillian Murphy is the latest actor to join the cast of Wally Pfister's cool sounding sci-fi film Transcendence, which is being produced by Christopher Nolan. The movie has been described as being in the same vein as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Inception. It also stars Johnny DeppRebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Morgan Freeman, and Kate Mara. There's no word on the character Murphy will be playing, but he's always a fine addition to any cast. Here's a description of the story:

Three scientists -- Max and the husband and wife team, Will and Evelyn -- have been developing a programming code for the world’s first fully self-aware computer. Depp will play one of the lead scientists, Will. The other two roles have not yet been cast. A group of anti-technology terrorists assassinate Will, Evelyn uploads his brain into a prototype supercomputer. Although she at first finds the experiment seems to have gone wrong, before too long Evelyn finds Will responding in computer form. She goes on to connect Will to the Internet so he can help make further scientific breakthroughs. Will asks Evelyn to connect a microphone and a camera up to the computer so he can see and speak to her as well. Will creates a backup of himself to every computer in the world, and furthers his work through accessing online indexes. When the anti-technology organization finds out, they try to steal the supercomputer and destroy it, but Will no longer needs the computer to survive.

The movie is set to be released on April 25th, 2014. Thanks to Latino-Review for the update!

Tom Cruise to Star in New Sci-Fi Film YUKIKAZE

Tom Cruise has really embraced the sci-fi genre recently! He has Oblivion coming out this weekend. He recently shot All You Need is Kill, and now he's set to star in a big screen adaptation of a book called Yukikaze for Warner Bros. The book was written by Japanese author Chohei Kambayashi. Here's a description of it:

More than thirty years ago, a hyper-dimensional passageway suddenly appeared over the continent of Antarctica. Fighters from the mysterious alien force known as the JAM poured through the passage, the first wave an attempted terrestrial invasion. Their ferocity was unquestionable, their aim unknown. Humanity, united by a common enemy, managed to repel the invaders, chasing them back through the passageway to the strange planet nicknamed “Fairy.”

The task of finishing the battle was given to the newly formed FAF, a combat force created to go to Fairy and eliminate the JAM bases once and for all. Now, in the midst of a war with no end in sight, Second Lieutenant Rei Fukai carries out his missions in the skies over Fairy. Attached to Tactical Combat and Surveillance Unit 3 of the Special Air Force, his duty is to gather information on the enemy and bring it back to base—no matter the human cost. His only constant companion in this lonely task is his fighter plane, the sentient FFR-31 Super Sylph, call sign: Yukikaze.

The books have already been adapted into five direct-to-video anime films, two of which have won animation awards. The last movie I saw Cruise in was Jack Reacher, which I thought was pretty awesome. I think it's great he's getting back into sci-fi. I loved Minority Report; unfortunately, I don't think any of these other sci-fi movies will end up being as good as that one, but I'm sure they'll still all be fun to watch.

TRANSFORMERS 4 and INTERSTELLAR to Shoot in IMAX

I love watching movies in IMAX, especially when the films have portions natively shot in the format. It's my preferred movie going experience. IMAX and Paramount have announced that Michael Bay's Transformers 4 and Christopher Nolan's Interstellar will be released in IMAX along with three other unannounced films. They will also partially be shot in the IMAX format. It's not really surprising news, but it's still pretty cool. I'm hoping that one day soon we will get a full movie shot in IMAX.

Nolan’s Interstellar is set to be released on November 7th, 2014, and Transformers 4 will be released on June 27th, 2014. Here's the full press release:

IMAX Corporation and Paramount Pictures tonight announced an agreement to release five of Paramount Pictures' upcoming films in the immersive IMAX format under an extension of the companies' long-running partnership. The arrangement features some of Paramount's most highly-anticipated tentpole films, including Michael Bay's Transformers 4 (June 27, 2014) as well as its co-production of Christopher Nolan's Interstellar (November 7, 2014) and three titles that have yet to be announced.

Continuing the legacy begun by IMAX trailblazer Christopher Nolan and his use of the 15 perf 65mm IMAX® cameras in The Dark Knight, Nolan and Michael Bay will once again capture material and key sequences of these 2014 releases using IMAX® cameras. These specific sequences, which will expand to fill more of the screen exclusively in IMAX, will deliver unprecedented crispness and clarity and a truly immersive experience for moviegoers.

"IMAX is among the greatest ways to experience a movie," said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount Pictures. "That fact, together with our combined successes over the years, the growth of the IMAX brand around the world, and our continued partnership with Rich, Greg and everyone at IMAX make this agreement a natural extension of an already hugely successful relationship. Working with today's top filmmakers, we look forward to bringing audiences the most exciting new movies with the very best presentation for years to come."

"We're excited to build on our longtime partnership with Paramount Pictures, which has been fantastic at incorporating IMAX differentiation and providing moviegoers with the best way to experience the biggest movies," said Richard L. Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. "This agreement furthers our strategy of anchoring our slate with blockbuster films by today's leading directors."

"IMAX continues to have a deep appreciation for the consistently innovative Paramount Pictures team as well as these incredible filmmakers, who are among the most talented directors working in the industry," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Entertainment. "We're thrilled and honored to once again team up with our longtime partners Christopher Nolan and Michael Bay. We can't wait to showcase their vision to IMAX fans around the world."

Batman Villains Re-Imagined in 1920s Style Mugshots

Here's a fantastically fun series of mugshots of Batman villains that were inspired by 1920s era criminal mugshots -- though the photos are dated in the '40s and '50s. They were created by Canadian artist Jason Mark, and he calls the series "The Usual Suspects," which features popular villains such as The Joker, The Penguin, Two-Face and Mr Freeze.

First Promo Teaser for Ron Moore's New Sci-Fi Series HELIX

SyFy has released the first promo teaser trailer for Ron Moore's new sci-fi series Helix, which I have high hopes for. There's not much going on in the teaser, but it's enough to spark people's interest. It kind of has a creepy and unsettling X-Files vibe to it.

The series follows "a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control [who] travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, they quickly find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind's salvation or total annihilation."

Hopefully this ends up being a cool series to watch! Check out the promo!

Illustrator Mattias Adolfsson has created three pictures that re-imagine Star Wars Imperial Walkers as buses, taxis, and other forms of transportation. The art was created for the upcoming Star War show at Gallery Nucleus. I really like the fun little details and style of these designs.

More Photos of Jamie Foxx as Electro in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

A few more photos have surfaced from the New York set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 featuring Jamie Foxx as Electro. Only this time, we get to see what he looks like with a glow of light on his face with the help of practical LED lights built into the hoodie. It seems like a lot of fans are cool with the design, as it is more inspired by the Ultimate version of the character. That didn't even cross my mind at first until it was pointed out in the comments. I think the look is going to work wonderfully in the film, and I'm glad they didn't go with the green and yellow supervillain color scheme.

Here's what Foxx had to say about the look in a previous interview:

It won’t be green and yellow. It will be a different color. They (the producers) want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic book-y, so it won’t be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff.

Like I've said before, I'm excited to see what he ends up looking like when all the effects and post work have been added. Do you have any other thoughts on how he looks in these photos?

Walking Dead's Michael Rooker Joins GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Michael Rooker has joined the cast of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. He joins Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista in the James Gunn-directed film. It was reported weeks ago that Zoe Saldana was in talks for the role of Gamora, but an official announcement on her casting has yet to be made.

Rooker will play Yondu Udonta, one of the four founding members of the rag-tag group of futuristic ex-cons known as the Guardians of the Galaxy. Somewhat  mirroring his character on The Walking Dead, Yondu's right hand was replaced with a bionic device. Yondo was a game hunter in a primitive tribe of humanoid beings native to the first planet system to be colonized outside of the Sun's solar system. Along with his superb athletic skills, he also has mental powers.

Guardians of the Galaxy begins shooting this June with an aim for an August 1st, 2014 release.

Here's some more info on Yondu's origins, abilities, and Paraphernalia. (Click image to enlarge)

Robert Downey Jr. Hints at IRON MAN Retirement

Now that Robert Downey Jr. has fulfilled his contract obligations with Marvel, we've all been wondering if he would be back to reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in any future Marvel films. In a recent interview he did with GQ, it sure sounds to me like he's looking to leave Iron Man behind him.

Just because this is the franchise that relaunched his career doesn't mean he has to play the character for the rest of his life. We all knew there would come a time when another actor would have to fill the shoes of this character, and it seems like that time is fast approaching.

The actor is looking toward leaving Iron Man behind him and moving forward, thanks in part to an ankle injury he suffered doing an on-set stunt.

It got me thinking about how big the message from your cosmic sponsor needs to be before you pick it up. How many genre movies can I do? How many follow-ups to a successful follow-up are actually fun?

I come from a family of very innovative writers and directors and actors and artists, and the circle of friends they were in were the people I heard having pun-offs playing poker at two in the morning, and it was just the most comforting aspect of my childhood. So there's this kind of legacy of souls from what I consider to be a very particular time in entertainment, and I'm sensing a return to that.

I'm sure Marvel is trying to get him back, and who knows, maybe they will for another movie or two! Although I don't see him doing anymore beyond that.

Downey goes on to reveal that he's hoping to direct a Halloween-type horror film, and he's also going to star in the movie as "a Village Voice reporter on the run." The actor is also set to co-star in a new drama called The Judge that he's producing with his wife. He will play Robert Duvall's son in it.

I suggest you read the full interview at GQ because it's pretty interesting.

GAME OF THRONES Ygritte Fan Art - "You Know Nothing, Jon Snow"

Games of Thrones character Ygritte is featured in this fantastic piece of fan art by CGHUB artist jigokuen, who says he's a fan of the books. As you can see the illustration comes with the following quote, "You know nothing, Jon Snow."

Regardless of how much the series seems to be straying for the books, I've still been enjoying the series. Like The Walking Dead, when you start changing up aspects of the story you never know what's going to happen.

Cool New Trailer for THE GREAT GATSBY Featuring Techno Jazz

Another spectacular trailer has been released for The Great Gatsby featuring a cool new techno jazz song by Fergie called "A Little Party Never Killed No One." It's also loaded with some new footage as well! I love all of the music I've heard from this movie so far, and I'm looking forward to hearing more! The soundtrack is set to be released on May 10th. I'm very excited about seeing this film, it looks pretty amazing and visually stunning.

The Baz Luhrmann-directed movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Elizabeth DebickiJason Clarke, Amitabh Bachchan, and Jack Thompson.

The Great Gatsby follows would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without of the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

This movie set to be released on May 10th, 2013. Check out the new trailer!

For those of you looking for some awesome geek kitchen accessories, check out this radical oven mitt inspired by the classic Nintendo Entertainment System Power Glove.

On a side note, the Power Glove was the coolest, yet most useless video game accessory ever made. This oven mitt would get more use than the Power Glove I used to own.

The full voice cast has been announced for Pixar's Monsters University, and some of the new additions include Nathan Fillion as Johnny Worthington [the monster with the horns, above], the confident president of Roar Omega Roar (ROR), a Monsters University fraternity that prides itself on its notable Scarers. Then there's John Krasinski who is playing “Frightening” Frank McCay, a Scaring super star at Monsters, Inc. Bonnie Hunt (Cars) is voicing Mike Wazowski's grade school teacher Karen Graves. Aubrey Plaza will play Claire Wheeler, the somber president of Monsters University’s Greek Council and emcee for the annual Scare Games. Charlie Day takes on the part of the incomparable Art, an Oozma Kappa (OK) fraternity brother with a questionable past.

There's a couple of new photos that have been released as well. The previously announced cast include Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Helen Mirren, Dave Foley, Sean Hayes, Joel Murray, Peter Sohn, Aubrey Plaza, Tyler Labine, Bobby Moynihan, Julie Sweeney, Alfred Molina, Beth Behrs, and John Ratzenberger.

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn't always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn't stand each other. "Monsters University" unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Monsters University opens in theaters on June 21th.

During Las Vegas CinemaCon this past weekend, director Michael Bay announced that Stanley Tucci (Captain America, The Hunger Games) has joined Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, and Nicola Peltz in Transformers 4. He also teased that another young actor has been cast in the film as well and that the identity of the actor will be revealed soon.

Bay recently described the fourth film as being a "chase from Hell," which sounds like it could be fun! The movie is set to be released June 27th, 2014.

Patton Oswalt Plays The Penguin in Hilarious BATMAN Short

"Guns don't kill people. Batman does."

Patton Oswalt awesomely portrays The Penguin in this very funny Batman comedy short called Batman Vs. Penguin from College Humor. Even though this is a comedy parody, I can actually see Oswalt really playing The Penguin in a movie somewhere down the line. This short ended up being pretty hilarious and I hope you enjoy it!
