First Poster for Neill Blomkamp's ELYSIUM

Here's the first poster for District 9 director Neill Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi Elysium, which stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. The poster gives us a closer look at the crazy bionic parts that have been implanted into Damon's character. I'm excited to see some more footage from this movie!

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium also stars Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura, and William Fichtner. It hits theaters on August 9th, 2013.

EVIL DEAD Director Up to Direct DOCTOR STRANGE Movie?

Director Fede Alvarez's career is sure to blow up after the bloody awesomeness of Evil Dead. It's one of the best remakes that I've seen. A rumor has hit the web that there's a possibility he could end up directing the big screen adaptation of Doctor Strange for Marvel, which I'd have no problems with. I'd love to see Alvarez take on a comic book film like Doctor Strange! The news comes from Latino-Review, who also says his writer, Rodo Sayagues is also involved.

There's no solid confirmation, but they did reach out to them on Twitter, but have yet to get a response. If it is true, I don't think they would confirm or deny it. They're probably just thinking, "how in the hell did they find out?!"

It will be interesting to see if this rumor plays out. Marvel is probably taking meetings with lots of directors though. Alvarez is just a really hot filmmaker in Hollywood right now. The site suggests that Alvarez and Sayagues most likely gave their take on the characters in the comic. If Marvel liked the pitch they gave, then I guess there's a good chance that he could end up directing this movie.

Would you like to see Alvarez direct Doctor Strange for Marvel?

First DOCTOR WHO Director Says Series Has Become Too Sexy and Complicated

Waris Hussien, who directed 10 Doctor Who episodes back in the William Hartnell days tells Telegraph the series has lost its focus in the new age. When compared to the classical series he says that The Doctor has become "too sexy" and the storyline is "too complicated." His comments were in reference to the ongoing sexual tensions between The Doctor and his companions in general, but more specifically a recent episode. Be warned the following statement could be somewhat seen as spoilerish, but not so much in terms of plot or if you haven't been watching the current season.
"The intriguing thing about the original person was that you never quite knew about him and there was a mystery and an unavailability about him. Now we've just had a recent rebirth and another girl has joined us, a companion, she actually snogged him."
Hussien went on further to say that the Doctor should be that platonic, unattainable type like Sherlock Holmes and questions why The Doctor needs a love interest. Hussien also longed for the simple linear structure of the old episodes, and dislikes the current story lines which jump around. His thoughts were echoed by former companion Peter Purves who said...
"The original series was so simple. They were very straightforward, nice linear stories that one could follow."
While I don't necessarily love the whole interspecies romance between The Doctor and his companions, I don't mind it. I know exactly why the series has developed that way in recent years. Old school fans of Doctor Who need to understand the fan base no longer strictly consists of young to middle aged British males but a worldwide audience of males and a vast audience of females. Embracing this audience is not a bad thing, and in my opinion has evolved the series into one of the most accessible Sci-fi has ever created. Is it comparable to the pop culture explosion of Batman in the 60's? Not quite, but I think it's getting there. Do you think the series is too sexy or complicated? Old school Who fans appreciated for insight.

HELLBOY 3 Is Not Going To Happen

I've got some bad news for all you Hellboy fans out there. If you've been hoping to see Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman team up again for a third Hellboy movie, you're out of luck. I would have loved to see it happen, and there was a chance that it might have at one point. Unfortunately, according to Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, it's not going to happen. In a recent interview with Comic Book Resources, he explained:

The biggest problem I see as far as PR for the next billion years is explaining endlessly not only that there's no Hellboy 3 movie, but it's going to be explaining 'It's a series, but it's not a monthly series.'

It's hard to find who finances it. It's the biggest chapter of the three movies. Hellboy becomes the beast of the apocalypse. We've inquired, but so far, if you know a rich uncle with $130 million…

Del Toro said the exact same thing about funding back in January. It's just a huge movie. He said they needed about $140 million to make the third movie, and they just can't find anyone to invest that kind of cash.

You can't get any clearer than saying "there's no Hellboy 3 movie." That essentially tells us everything we need to know. It's not going to happen, and there's no way they'll be able to kickstart that kind of cash either. It's kind of sad, but Del Toro has got a lot of other great films he's going to make. I'm not too worried because he's still going to bring us some radical entertaining flicks!

Disney has released two new character posters for Gore Verbinski's exciting looking western The Lone Ranger! The posters feature Armie Hammer as the title character, and Johnny Depp as Tonto. Hammer looks fantastic in this role, and this movie is sure to launch his career to a new level. This looks like it's going to end up being a fun flick. Disney spent a hell of a lot of money on it, so I hope it pays off for them!

The movie also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson, and Helena Bonham CarterThe Lone Ranger hits July 3rd, 2013. Click here to watch the trailer for the movie.

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice–taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

Dear Warner Bros, Put BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES on Netflix Already!

Dear Warner Bros.,

I love the massive amount of DC content you released on Netflix recently. I guarantee the next few weeks of my watching will include the complete series of Batman Beyond, Batman: The Brave And The Bold, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. That being said you just opened up the floodgate when you gave the mouse a cookie. As grateful as I am, you know I noticed what didn't get added. So I'm sure there has to be some reason you didn't include the four time Emmy awarding winning series to the instant stream stable, but I don't care. I want it. Now.

I want to relive the experience that, as a '90s kid, drew me properly into the world of The Dark Knight. I want to sit back and fully appreciate the noir art style I didn't care about as a kid. I want to hear Danny Elfman's theme and get that same rush I used to prior to an exciting episode. I want to watch the series that spawned the creation of Harley Quinn, gave Mark Hamill a job post Star Wars and made Mr. Freeze "cool". I want to stop sounding like a dude who is way over romanticizing a cartoon and just keep my comments to myself as I bask in the warm glow of nostalgia emanating from my television.

So please make it happen...and soon.

The latest poster for The Hangover III features Stu (Ed Helms) dramatically holding Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong) in his arms. The last film in the franchise looks like it's going to end in absolute chaos!

This time, there’s no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.

The Todd Phillips-directed movie also stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, Justin Bartha, John Goodman, Sasha Barrese, Gillian Vigman, and Jamie Chung. It's set to be released on May 24th.

A month ago we posted some fun Disney and Star Wars fan art that featured Ariel and Rapunzel as Jedi Knights. The same artist, Ralph Sevelius, has created a new one for his series featuring Snow White as an evil Sith Lord. It turned out awesome! Snow White surprisingly makes a terrific looking Star Wars villain.

Here's the third drawing for the series, sorry it took so long, life has a way of getting in the way. She was so far the trickiest one so far, particularly her color scheme. I grabbed some of her color palette and patterns from the Evil Queen. Hope you guys like!

Evil Dead pulled in $26 million this weekend, and I'm sure the studio is going to want to see a sequel. If you haven't seen it yet, you're seriously missing out! This movie was such an entertaining horror film. You've got to see it when you get a chance. You can read my review for it here. This is seriously one of the best movie remakes ever made.

Director Fede Alvarez and Bruce Campbell sat down for an interview with IGN recently and discussed a new Evil Dead sequel, as well as Army of Darkness 2. Alvarez reveals he's already working on a script, and Campbell says that he's down for Army of Darkness 2. It's got to happen! Especially with............ SPOILER................. that end credits scene in the remake. You can't put that in there and not expect to see these two Evil Dead worlds collide.

Watch them talk about all of this stuff in the video interview below!

Universal has released a new green-band trailer for Jeff Wadlow's Kick-Ass 2. This trailer obviously isn't as brutal or comedic as the red-band one, but it still packs in the action, and shows more of the villain (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and the evil league he assembles.

The film also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Jim Carrey, Morris Chestnut, John Leguizamo, and Donald FaisonKick-Ass 2 hits theaters on August 16th, 2013!

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol.

When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Kaya Scodelario Cast in THE MAZE RUNNER

Director Wes Ball revealed via Twitter that he has cast Kaya Scodelario as Teresa in the feature film adaptation of the dystopian novel The Maze Runner. This looks to be Scodelario's first big film role. Prior to this she's had small roles in Moon and Wrath of the Titans

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world, and centers on a character named Thomas, "who after having his memory wiped is deposited in a community of boys trapped in an enormous maze. He soon learns they are part of a mysterious test, and finds it is his destiny to join the ‘maze runners’ and lead them to freedom."

I like the concept of the story; this has the potential to be a thrilling movie. Here's a more detailed description of the book.

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

Trailer for HBO's Liberace Film BEHIND THE CANDELABRA

HBO has released the full trailer for the Stephen Soderbergh-directed Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra. It stars Michael Douglas as the famous entertainer and Matt Damon as his lover Scott Thorson. It looks like these two guys have a pretty crazy relationship. Here's the synopsis...

Before Elvis, before Elton John, Madonna and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace: virtuoso pianist, outrageous entertainer and flamboyant star of stage and television. A name synonymous with showmanship, extravagance and candelabras, he was a world renowned performer with a flair that endeared him to his audiences and created a loyal fan base spanning his 40-year career. Liberace lived lavishly and embraced a lifestyle of excess both on and off stage. In summer 1977, handsome young stranger Scott Thorson walked into his dressing room and, despite their age difference and seemingly different worlds, the two embarked on a secretive five-year love affair. BEHIND THE CANDELABRA takes a behind-the-scenes look at their tempestuous relationship — from their first meeting backstage at the Las Vegas Hilton to their bitter and public break-up.

Now even though Soderbergh might be done making films, he is still doing stuff for TV. He currently has plans to adapt John Barth’s The Sot-Weed Factor into a 12-hour miniseries. Behind the Candelabra is set to premiere on HBO on May 26th, 2013.

A&E has renewed their new psychological thriller series Bates Motel for a second season! I've really been enjoying the series. If you haven't started watching it, I suggest you check it out. It has a captivating setting, with great characters, and the story, writing and production value is superb!

A&E president and GM Bob DeBitetto had this to say in a statement,

Bates Motel has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal audience in its first few weeks. With superb writing and exceptional acting, led by the critically acclaimed performances of Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore, we’re incredibly excited to see where Carlton and Kerry take Norma and Norman Bates next.

Season 2 will bring us ten new episodes, and I'm looking forward to seeing where Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin end up taking the story. For those of you interested in the TV statistics...

The show ranks as A&E's most-watched scripted drama in network history among adults 18-49 and 25-54. The series premiere drew 4.5 million total viewers and 2.5 million in both 18-49 and 25-54 when factoring in Live+7 figures. The series held up well in its second airing, jumping 6 percent among the 25-54 set against increased competition in its Mondays at 10 p.m. slot.

First Look Photos of 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE

$

A couple of months ago I watched 300 again for the first time in a couple of years to motivate me to get back in shape. Guess what... it worked! I'm on my way to be a Spartan. The sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire, finally made it into production, and thanks to USA Today we have our first look at the movie, and as you'll see it has the same look and feel as Zack Snyder's first film.

The sequel is being directed by Noam Murro, and above you'll find an image of one of the battles that will be in the movie. Below you'll get your first look at the film's star Sullivan Stapleton, who plays Themistokles in the story.

The story is described as having an aquatic setting and follows the Persian king-turned-god Xerxes as he leads an army against Greek forces, who have little training but are under the guidance of the general Themistokles. (The giant battle at the center of this movie is supposed to occur at the same time as the fighting in 300.) The director explains the epic size of the sequel saying,

[Rise of an Empire] happens over time in many different locations. The opportunities for the six distinct battles are even greater with different locations and tactics… The few against the many is still here. It’s hundreds vs. hundreds of thousands. It’s about taking on the mightiest power of all with wisdom and tactics.

It sounds like it's going to be yet another adrenaline filled badass war movie! It also stars Rodrigo Santoro returning as Xerxes, and Eva Green as Artemisia, "the vengeful commander of the Persian navy." Rounding out the cast are Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, Igal Naor, Callan Mulvey, Jack O'Connell, and Andrew Tiernan. It's set to be released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX and August 2nd, 2013.

Since I'm getting in shape, maybe... just maybe I'll be able to pull off going to the movie dressed up as a Spartan warrior by the time it come out.

BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS - Year One the Video Game

We knew it was coming, but now we have some additional info thanks to Game informers new cover feature. The new Arkham game will be called Arkham Origins and will be a prequel with a large bit of influence from Frank Miller's Year One take on the character. It will feature many of the initial meetings between Bruce and his assorted rogues gallery, including his first match up against Deathstroke (featured on the cover).

The game is being developed by WB Montreal, who has all the previous assets from the Rocksteady helmed titles, so hopefully the transition will be smooth. Other titles have had the same transition to release to mixed results (Ultimate Alliance 2 for starters). There is also a handheld title in the works by Armature studios, which will serve as a sequel of sorts to Origins.

While I'm a bit nervous about the handoff, I am excited to (hopefully) get more time in Gotham proper instead of just the walls of Arkham. I'm hoping that the detective work portion of the game gets expanded upon. If there is going to be DLC I would love to see more mystery style packs where you have to solve a set of crimes and ultimately fight the villain responsible--it would be a great way to get some of the b and c list villains in the game without taking away from the main plot. The game releases on October 25th for all current gen consoles as well as the Wii U.

THIS IS THE END Film Clip - "I Don't Want to Die at James Franco's House"

Seth Rogen and James Franco's This is the End looks hilarious! Everything I've seen from it has made me laugh. Thanks to MTV we have another funny short clip from the movie to show you. It features Jay Baruchel explaining to the group that he'd like to leave because he doesn't want to die at Franco's house.

The story revolves around a celebrity filled house party that is interrupted by the end of the world. It also stars Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Rihanna, Kevin Hart, Martin Star, Emma Watson, and Aziz Ansari, who all play over exaggerated versions of themselves in the film.

The movie hits theaters on June 14th, 2013. I'm pretty confident it will be one of the best comedies of the year.

The comedy This Is The End follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

Neill Blomkamp on DISTRICT 10, HALO, and Possibly STAR WARS

$

During a recent press event for Elysium director Neill Blomkamp was asked if he would ever go back to work on some of his previous material, like District 9. While talking about Halo, and confirming he would like to make a District 9 sequel he went on to make a possible reference that he has considered working on a Star Wars movie. He doesn't come right out and say it, but you know how the internet is, people just start speculating that he's talking about Star Wars, even though there's absolutely no mention of it whatsoever.

Blomkamp was among several names mentioned to possibly take on Star Wars: Episode VII, several fans including myself loved the idea of it. The director is a very talented guy with great storytelling skills and an eye for visual awesomeness. I'd still love to see him eventually take on a Star Wars movie, but that doesn't mean he's talking about it. You never know though; anything is possible. Anyway, here's what he had to say, and I bolded the section that is being interpreted by the fans as being Star Wars related...

I don’t actively sit down and say I’m going to do my own stuff and that I want everything to be original. One of the things I learned with Halo… I actually still really like the world and universe of Halo and if I was given control, I would like to do that film. But that’s the problem. When something pre-exists there’s this idea of ‘I have my interpretation of what that is’ but along with it comes like 150 other people involved with the film’s interpretation of the same intellectual property. And then the entire filmgoing audience has their interpretation. And you can live up to or fail in their eyes. And that part of it isn’t appealing to me. But the original pieces are appealing.

In terms of sequels to my own stuff, a lot of it just comes down to if there’s more to say. And I think the world of District 9 has a lot of very interesting race and oppression-based ideas that I would still like to explore in that world. Again, I have zero problems, I’ll make my own stuff or whatever you want to call it, sequalize my own stuff.

And then there’s a few pieces of cinema history that I like so much I don’t know whether I could be involved with them. There’s, you know, there’s iconic characters that I really like that I would love to get closer to and make a film about. When I start dipping my toes into it, I get this allergic reaction. Maybe one day I’ll end up doing something like that.

Now he could very well be talking about Star Wars, but there is a ton of other movies in cinema history that he could be talking about, as well. I think it's really a far reach to single out Star Wars, but the fans hear and see what they want to hear and see. What matters the most though is what you see. Do you think he's talking about Star Wars?

Like a lot of Batman fans in 1997, I was excited to see Batman & Robin. When I walked out of that movie though, I never wanted to see another batman film again. It was beyond terrible. Well, here's an eye-opening behind the scenes video for the film in which the cast and crew talk about the making of the film, reveal why it was so bad, and even flat out trash it. One of the main reasons the movie ended up being the way it did was because of the toys. Check it out!
