Mainframe Computer - Video Supercut

"He's locked us out of the mainframe!"

Here's a fun movie supercut video created by Alex Moschina that features more than two dozen movie references to the mainframe computer Hollywood plot device. Now I'm going to laugh whenever a mainframe is brought up in a movie, I never really paid attention to how many movies have used the mainframe before.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 - Plot and Character Spoiler Details

Some really interesting, potentially SPOILER-ish information has been leaked for Marc Webb's highly anticipated sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. The news comes from CBM, and offers up some clarification on Green Goblin, Electro, Gwen Stacy, and Venom. They claim the info comes from someone close to the production. For those of you who want to avoid any spoilers I suggest you don't read anything beyond this point, at the same time there's really nothing here that hasn't already been discussed.

Here are the points of interest:

  • Electro (Jamie Foxx) will not be wearing anything close to his classic green and yellow outfit, but "think Ultimate version," which has previously been discussed so no new news there. The character's civilian alter ego Max Dillon will be an Oscorp employee.
  • That pic Webb tweeted out of the morge door and number that got everyone thinking Venom was going to be in the film, it's not for him. Venom will not be in the movie. That morge is actually where Dillon is taken after his "accident".
  • There will be no Green Goblin in this movie but LOTS of teasers and foreshadowing for the next movie - apparently Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper) hasn't been cured yet and is still dying.
  • Now for the biggest spoiler, which has already been expected... Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) will die, but the more surprising news is that it's been hinted that the death won't even happen at the end, and Stone's role may not be very large at all. This hasn't been confirmed, it's just speculation "based on how the info was put across." I can roll with their assessment that it would definitely give Spider-Man a reason to go off the deep end and seek revenge.

Like I said, nothing groundbreaking here, just a bunch of info that has already been discussed in the past, but I thought I'd pass it along to all of you who are looking forward to the movie!

Terrible STAR TREK Spoof Made By The IRS

So the IRS spent $60,000 dollars of taxpayer money to make a Star Trek spoof for an IRS training and leadership conference in 2010 that turned out to be one of the worst Star Trek fan films ever made. I'm not even sure it would be considered a fan film. I don't know what in the hell they were thinking when they made this, but they're profusely apologizing for it now that it's been released. The agency told the Associated Press press the following,

There is no mistaking that this video did not reflect the best stewardship of resources. A video of this type would not be made today.

I should hope not! It shouldn't have been made in 2010! I'm not even sure if this video even qualifies as being "so bad, it's good," it's just plain awful. Enjoy!

Here's a really fun behind the scenes look at the reactions of Kristen Bell, Rob Thomas, Enrico Colantoni, and Ryan Hansen as the watched their Veronica Mars Kickstarter campaign blow up on March 13th. As you will see, they were as excitedly shocked as the fans were. As of today the movie is almost to the $4 million mark, which is pretty incredible!

Thomas has said that they're documenting the making of the movie, so I'm sure we'll be seeing more behind-the-scenes videos chronicling the return of Veronica Mars, which is expected to be released next year.

Thomas recently discussed some of the plot details for the film, which you can read about here. Now check out the video reactions! I just have to say that Kristen Bell is so damn adorable.

Here's another video update that was released as well.

THE WALKING DEAD's Michael Rooker on His Character Merle!

I am warning you right now, there are potential spoilers in this post if you haven't seen the last episode of The Walking Dead. But, if you are up to date then you can read on. If by some strange coincidence you happened to miss this last episode, turn around now. There is nothing for you to see here. For those of you who are current on what is happening in the world of bitey regenerated corpses, please join me as we look into the mind of the man behind Merle.

SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!!

Ok, I think that they are gone now.

TV Guide recently did an interview with Michael Rooker about the death of Merle Dixon and how this might affect the upcoming finale of season 3 of The Walking Dead. The whole interview is very good and quite informative, so if you get a chance then make sure to read the whole thing. However, I would just like to focus on a couple key points that I thought were very important. Here they are:

Were you sad to say goodbye to the character after fans had waited so long to see him return?

That's kind of a shame. I thought it was unfortunate, and I did not necessarily agree with the choice to do this. It was a big build up and you really didn't get the true payoff. We had a great through line for this season, but the fans want more. They're not very happy. I don't think a lot of the true Walking Dead fans are happy with this. But, as you know, as actors, we don't have a choice in the matter. It's cliché, I know, but it's so true: When one door closes, another door opens.

It has been said before, by the shows producers, that the death of a main character is never taken lightly. There is always a reason for the deaths in the show. I know this is a needed factor for the show to continue on down the road, but man does it make me mad. Continuing on..

Were you happy that Merle actually did something selfless in trying to kill The Governor?

Indeed. Merle was on that mission knowing good and well that he may not return. He was doing it for his brother so he could take out as many of The Governor's men — and The Governor, if possible — so that Daryl would have a better chance of surviving. That was the thought in my mind behind what he was doing.

A couple of episodes previously I knew that Merle would do whatever it takes to make sure Daryl was safe. He realized he wasn’t there for Daryl when their father scarred up his back.

For those of you who were always Merle haters, here is a little look into the mind of the brother of Daryl:

Considering he's a character who wasn't even in the comic books, what did you think of Merle's evolution from racist redneck to now?

I never played Merle as a despicable racist guy. I've always played Merle as a straight forward guy living in a zombie f---ing apocalypse. There's no more political correct bulls--- out there. It's survival of the fittest, and you better know how to survive in this world. If you don't, you're going to perish, plain and simple. Fans are judging this character on how you'd live in your everyday world, but you've got to remember that these people are living in a world that has changed. Everyone in this show is still grieving over losing every family member that they've ever had. That makes people react and act differently.

If someone gets in his face, he's going to put them down. That's who Merle was in the beginning, but you see him change over the time of the show. He learned that he needs other people. Although, it galls him to think he can't do everything on his own, he still needs his brother. That's his main concern in life. Hunting down his brother was Merle's entire existence on this show, and to protect him if possible. So, this final giving of himself is for his brother and no one else. He's not really caring about the group. He's caring about his brother and whether or not he will survive.

This episode took a lot of wind out of my sails. I was hoping that we would have seen a full on assault on Woodbury with the deadly trio of Michonne and the Dixon Brothers in the lead. Now, I have a feeling we are going to be treated to a rage filled Daryl taking out anyone in his path. The way this show has been going so far, you can never tell what will happen in an episode let alone the season finale. Will the group survive the attack? What is going to happen to Andrea? Will the Governor finally be taken down? These are the questions that have been burning in my brain, but will get answered one way or another in a few days.

Are you happy or sad by the demise of Merle? What good or bad will his death do for the group and for Daryl?

Until next time…

The Wachowskis Developing SENSE8 Series for Netflix

The Wachowskis (The Matrix, Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Thor, Underworld Awakening) are teaming up with Netflix to develop a new TV series called Sense8. This would be the first TV series that the Wachowskis have been a part of, and it will be released in late 2014. Knowing the talent involved with this project, it's sure to turn out really good.

There's no information on what the series will be about other than the fact the idea was born from a conversation about "the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us." Here's the press release where everyone involved talks about how excited they are about making the 10 episode series...

"Andy and Lana Wachowski and Joe Straczynski are among the most imaginative writers and gifted visual storytellers of our time," said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. "Their incredible creations are favorites of Netflix members globally and we can't wait to bring 'Sense8' to life."

"We're excited to work with Netflix and Georgeville Television on this project, and we've wanted to work with Joe Straczynski for years, chiefly due to the fact his name is harder to pronounce than ours, but also because we share a love of genre and all things nerdy," said Andy and Lana Wachowski . "Several years ago, we had a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox 'Sense8' was born."

"We are proud to be working with Netflix on this new series," said Straczynski. "Lana, Andy, and I are fans of each other's creations, and have been looking for something to do together for nearly a decade."

"Sense8" is being produced by Georgeville Television, in association with Studio JMS. Georgeville Television is a Reliance Entertainment company and independent television studio, formed by veteran film and television producer Marc Rosen, in partnership by Motion Picture Capital's Leon Clarance and Producer Deepak Nayar. Formed in 2012, Georgeville Television currently has two series in pre-production, including NBC's "Crossbones" starring John Malkovich. Rosen, Clarance, and Nayar will serve as executive producers on "Sense8."

Studio JMS, launched last year by Straczynski and CEO Patricia Tallman, was founded to produce a wide range of film, television, comics and other media properties. In addition to The Flickering Light, Straczynski's feature directorial debut, and "Sense8," Studio JMS has created a new comics imprint, Joe's Comics, published in partnership with Image Comics. Its first series, "Ten Grand," will debut in May. In addition to "Sense8," Motion Picture Capital is producing The Flickering Light, which begins filming in Berlin later this year.

"'Sense8' is a dream-come-true creatively, and we look forward to working closely with our new partners at Netflix, with whom we could not be more excited to bring the Wachowskis' first TV series ever to life," said Rosen.

The Wachowskis are starting production next month on their new sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending for Warner Brothers, starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.

"We're delighted to once again partner with Joe, and have the opportunity to work with Lana and Andy, two of our movie-making heroes, on their television debut," said Clarance. "They have created a brilliant concept, which will be a wonderful story to produce, and a rich conceptual world for viewers to experience."

Some people's brains just work differently than others. I would have never thought of connecting AMC's The Walking Dead with Pixar's Toy Story, but Redditor JimmyLegs50 happened to noticed some crazy similarities between the two, and he put together an incredible collection to prove it. Seeing these scenes side-by-side is pretty incredible. He calls it Zombie Story, and it's hard to argue. Check them out!

With WonderCon coming up this weekend, Denver Comic-Con coming in May, and the big San Diego Comic-Con hitting in July, I thought I'd post this hilarious piece of geek art called "Comic Con Curves" by CGHUB artist AndyH, and here's what he he had to say about it,

A homage to comic conventions, and a tribute to those brave attendees who cosplay in skimpy outfits!

Even though a lot of the fangirls out there dress up like this to show off their fandom, it's still got to be a little uncomfortable for them, just like the expression on her face shows.

New Creepy Poster for James Wan's THE CONJURING

My most anticipated horror film of the year aside from the Evil Dead remake is James Wan's The Conjuring. The movie looks creepy as hell, and now we have a new, very eerie poster for the film to share with you. I love it whenever I find a noose hanging in the tree outside of my house.

The movie has an incredible cast of actors that includes Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver, and Sterling Jerins. Here's the synopsis!

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

The movie is set to haunt theaters on July 19th, 2013. In case you missed the trailer for it, check it out below!

Ridley Scott “Freaking Out” Over PROMETHEUS 2 Story Issues?

$

20th Century Fox, director Ridley Scott, and writers Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts set up Prometheus to launch a new trilogy of films that would possibly lead up to the events that took place in Alien on the planet planet LV-426. Prometheus got a lot of mixed reviews, but in the end I really enjoyed the movie and thought it was fun regardless of some of the stupidity of some of the characters. I'd love to see the other two movies happen, but according to Bloody-Disgusting the studio and Scott are currently “freaking out” over how to continue the story of Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) in the sequel, and are taking pitches from basically anyone who can crack the story.

It's really hard to believe that these guys didn't come up with a full story outline for the trilogy before they made the first film. I guess anything is possible, but these guys are smart writers and filmmakers, you'd think they'd have a plan, right?! On top of that Scott doesn't seem like the kind of guy to freak out over something like this.

The site says that "we expect everyone surrounding the project to deny this story. That’s standard procedure. Don’t believe ‘em." Like I said though, the whole trilogy was planned out from the beginning. Here Spaihts talked about it in an old interview with Empire,

I did have a plan for multiple films and the conversations I had with Ridley was about a new franchise, from the beginning. We talked about a possible trilogy, or a duology, but more often as a trilogy. And I did have pretty broad notions as to how we were going to get from this world to the original Alien – the baton pass, closing the circle, if you will. So yes, I did have plans for two other films. I came up with an even more twisted sequence than the Medpod, but I cannot tell you what happens…

My vision of the trilogy would have involved the arrival of the Yutani Company and a couple of other major plays around the Engineers themselves: the revelation of an additional grand Engineer design, and the possibility of seeking an Engineer homeworld. That shot of the ship flying at the end offers a lot of creative ways to play with this. But it feels like it brackets you into the search for the Engineer homeworld and home civilisation. That’s an interesting challenge.

So it sounds like they did have some kind of idea to develop the trilogy, at the same time he also says it's going to be an interesting challenge. So maybe that is the challenge that Scott and the studio are currently facing. If they really are having issues, I'm sure they'll be able to crack it.

Lindelof himself took to Twitter and is saying he doesn't believe Ridley Scott has ever freaked out in his life. He then sent a e-mail to /Film explaining his side of the story saying...

While I’m happy to maintain my ongoing role as internets whipping boy (well, not happy, but at least resigned) this is a weird attack piece, even for someone who should be used to it by now.

The unglamorous truth is this:

During the creative process of Prometheus, all involved (that includes Fox and Ridley) had a strong desire for this film to launch off in its own way so that by the end, it would not connect directly to the original ALIEN, but instead run parallel to it. This is something that I talked about many, many times in the press burst around the release of the movie. As you probably remember, there was a lot of interest as to whether Prometheus was a “prequel” — the answer was, “Yes. Sort of. But if there was a sequel to Prometheus, it would not be ALIEN.”

Taking the strong foundation that Jon Spaihts had already written, I worked on the script to this end — and yes, during that process, Ridley did occasionally riff on what he felt might happen next as Shaw and David’s Head ventured off of LV-223 in search of wherever The Engineers had come from.

After the movie came out and discussions began about a possible sequel, I was already neck deep in writing and producing TOMORROWLAND with Brad Bird. I have found, unfortunately, that if I take on too many projects at one time, there is a higher probability of those projects sucking. And contrary to popular belief, I do not want anything I work on to suck. I really don’t. I care about these stories deeply — not just as a writer, but as a fan. It might not always feel that way to the audience, but I swear to God it is true. It also so happens that Ridley was about to embark on directing his next movie, THE COUNSELOR, and had another one, CHILD 44 lined up right behind it. The conclusion was obvious — In the best interest of the franchise, it was best to take myself out of the running before I had to suffer the embarrassment of potentially not even being offered it.

And that it is the complete (if not somewhat boring) truth.

As to whether Ridley and Fox are “freaking out” about me not working on a sequel, well that’s news to me. I retain awesome relationships with both. More importantly, the idea that there aren’t many, MANY writers out there capable of taking the reins is sort of ridiculous. I did not map out a trilogy and then walk when the going got tough. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know me and doesn’t know the truth.

The process of working on Prometheus with Ridley was one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. Love or hate the result of that work, I don’t regret having done it for a second.

Bloody Disgusting was very clever in tagging their story with the sentiment that denials were going to come. This would seem to throw shade on me denying the veracity of the story simply by anticipating that I would.

But denying the story I am.

As I said, I will take all the abuse in the world for the things I have done, but I refuse to take it for the things I have not.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Your Pal,

Damon

Plot Details Revealed for Sandler and Barrymore's BLENDED

There is this stigma that if you want a rom-com to work, you must cast Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan for it to be a success (Joe Versus the Volcano is by far my favorite, but that is just me).  There is no denying the chemistry of the Hanks-Ryan connection, but I feel that there is a comparable duo out there: Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore! If you feel the way that I do, then you are in luck. As it turns out the 50 First Dates and Wedding Singer co-stars are going to be teaming back up for a new film called Blended

I haven’t heard too much about this film until today. Thanks to moviehole, we now have a detailed synopsis of the film.:

Recently divorced mother of two boys, LAUREN REYNOLDS, and widowed father of three girls, JIM FRIEDMAN, have a disastrous blind date that puts them off dating for the foreseeable future. However, when the two purchase a discount “Familymoon” vacation from Lauren’s best friend and business partner, JEN, they wind up at an African resort with their kids in tow. Initially acrimonious, their relationship skews, gradually and irresistibly, towards romance.

It probably won’t win any awards, but it does sound fun.

Do you think they have what it takes to pull off one more rom-com, or are you over it?

I love watching awesome opening title sequences for films! There's an art to it, and when done right it could in itself be a great little short film that leads into the actual film. My favorite movie title sequences come from the films of David Fincher and what Saul Bass did in the 60s, like the title sequences he made for the Alfred Hitchcock movies -- both are featured in this video.

Here's a fantastic video presentation called The Film Before the Film created by Damian Pérez. It gives us a great historical breakdown of the art of the opening titles. This is a great and interesting video for all of you film lovers out there.

Here's one last trailer for director Andrew Niccol's new sci-fi alien thriller The Host, which stars Saoirse Ronan (Hanna), Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger, William Hurt, and Frances Fisher. I'm not the biggest fan of those Twilight films, but I'm going to give this one a shot because I like the director and the cast. There's a chance that it could be a decent movie. The new trailer shows of some new footage, and puts a focus on the the romance aspect of the film. The movie comes out this weekend on March 29th! The question is... will you be seeing this or G.I. Joe: Retaliation this weekend?

The Host, a love story set in the future, where Earth is occupied by a species who erase the minds of their human hosts, leaving their bodies intact. Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) is one of the last surviving humans who fights back, risking her life for the people she cares about most – Jared (Max Irons), Ian (Jake Abel), her brother Jamie (Chandler Canterbury) and her Uncle Jeb (William Hurt) – proving that love can conquer all.

Legendary Pictures has released a photo of Godzilla director Gareth Edwards on the set with the star of the original Godzilla movie, Akira Takarada. Takarada played the diver Hideto Ogata in the original movie. There's no info as to how big of a role he'll have in the remake, but it's really cool that he's going to be in it!

The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The screenplay of which comes from Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham

I'm excited to see how this movie turns out! I was blown away by the Comic-Con tease, so if it turns out as badass as that, we're in for a real treat!

Cool New Poster and Image For THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES

I have been looking forward to seeing this film, The Place Beyond the Pines, for a while. The cast in it is amazing, and the trailer alone tugs at the emotional heartstrings. I haven’t really seen that big of a push for it, even though the movie comes out in limited release this Friday. We here at GeekTyrant will be at WonderCon this weekend, but I am sure I can squeeze some time between panels to see this film. With that being said, here is a really well made poster for the film. I had to post it. I've also included a new image.

The story revolves around "a professional motorcycle rider (Ryan Gosling) who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Bradley Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational feud." It's also been described as "a rich dramatic thriller, tracing the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villains."

The movie also stars Greta Gerwig, Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta, Ali Mahershalalhasbaz, Gabe FazioMax Martini, and Emory Cohen

The Place Beyond the Pines opens in theaters on March 29th, 2013.

New Clip from G.I. JOE: RETALIATION with Duke and Roadblock

I had a chance to see G.I. Joe: Retaliation the other night, and I thought it was a really entertaining, action-packed movie! There were a lot of great scenes that I'm sure a lot of you will have fun watching. It's a hell of a lot better than the first film, but it still had its issues, mostly with the story. I honestly think they should have just rebooted the film franchise instead of making a sequel. The fact that it was a sequel was kind of ridiculous. You can tell that director Jon Chu had fun with it though, and in the end it's a fun, mindless popcorn action flick.

Paramount has released a new clip from the movie featuring Duke (Channing Tatum) and Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson) having a little fun. It's a scene meant to show you the kind of relationship that the two characters have in the film. The movie comes out this weekend on March 29th, so you might as well check it out!

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy, Cobra, they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed by Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe® characters.

New Trailer for Joel Edgerton's WISH YOU WERE HERE

A new trailer has been released for Joel Edgerton's drama thriller Wish You Were Here. The trailer makes us wonder what in the hell his character is up to. It looks like a solidly intense psychological thriller. Edgerton is an amazing actor who's been in films such as Animal, Warrior, The Thing, and Zero Dark Thirty. I'm sure he gives yet another great performance in this.

The story follows four friends who lose themselves in the fun of a carefree South East Asian holiday. "Only three return home. Who amongst them knows what happened on that fateful night when they were dancing under a full moon in Cambodia?"

The movie was shown up at Sundance last year, and also stars Teresa Palmer, Felicity Price, and Antony Starr. It was co-written and directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith. The movie will get a limited release on June 7th.

Rockwell, Hathaway, and Moretz to Join Dark Comedy LAGGIES

Anne Hathaway, Chloe Moretz, and Sam Rockwell are all in talks to join a new dark comedy called Laggies. The is a fantastic group of actors, and it should be fun to watch them up on the big screen together. The movie is being directed by Lynn Shelton (Your Sister's Sister) from a script written by Andrea Seigel (Humpday).

The story "chronicles perpetual adolescent and late-twentysomething Megan (Hathaway) who, freaked out by her boyfriend’s marriage proposal, pretends to go on a career retreat but actually hides out for a week with 16-year Annika (Moretz), her new best friend. Actor Mark Webber is also in talks to join the film as Megan’s boyfriend. Rockwell will play an older character named Craig in the film for which Andrea Seigel wrote the screenplay."

Hathaway had an incredible year in 2012 with The Dark Knight Rises and Les Miserables. She'll next be heard in the animated film Rio 2. Moretz has got a couple big movies coming out such as Kick-Ass 2 and Carrie, and then Rockwell will next be seen in The Way, Way Back. I'm going to use this opportunity to tell you to watch Rockwell's last film Seven Psychopaths, because it was awesome and one of the best things he's done!
