Trailer for TOMORROW YOU'RE GONE with Willem Dafoe and Stephen Dorff

Here is another mediocre film starring Michelle Monaghan. We showed you one yesterday and this one looks on par with that one. The films also stars Stephen Dorff and Willem Dafoe. I tend to stray away from movies that come out On Demand and in theaters simultaneously.

Charlie Rankin is out of prison, but not out of trouble. Indebted to the man who saved his life behind bars, Charlie must now carry out a murder to settle the score. But things start to change for Charlie when he meets Florence (Michelle Monaghan, Mission Impossible III), a mysterious and beautiful lost soul who sees the good hidden beneath his tough exterior. When the hit goes bad, it’s Charlie’s life that is on the line, and he’ll have to figure out how to settle his debts—and keep Florence out of danger—before his past catches up to him.

Hilarious 1982 BLADE RUNNER Executive Notes - They Hated It

Ridiely Scott's sci-fi film Blade Runner has become a cult classic since it was first released in 1982, but when it first opened a lot of people weren't sure what to think of it. It didn't get the best reviews either. The movie was just ahead of its time.

Before the movie even officially opened the executives who funded the film, Jerry PerenchioBud Yorkin, and Robin French of Tandem Productions gave some notes on the movie revealing that they didn't really care for it. They called it dreadfully dull and confusing, among several other complaints. Many of these are actually pretty funny considering the movie is now such a classic. Check out the full list of Blade Runner insults below. One of my favorites is, "This picture gets duller every time we see it."

You've got to watch this fantastic animated short film from  called A Story About Robots, which tells the story of "a robot's tormented memory." The short was sent to us by Jose Luis Farias who says,

A story about robots it´s an animation short film, is a personal project  we did on the weekends, made in Spain, in a small village called Segovia, with lot of love no budget. The backgrounds were photographed with Canon 50D. All the camera movements and travellings were made in stop motion. The robot was elaborated with 3D Studio Max and the integration with After Effects.

This is truly a great and touching film, and I hope you like it.

Here's a few new images from director James Mangold's The Wolverine. One is another character portrait that the director tweeted of Russian actress Svetlana Khodchenkova who plays Viper in the film. There's a couple other new images from Total Film magazine including some better quality scans of a couple images we posted yesterday.

Along with the images, the director confirmed that we would see the first trailer for the film with the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation movie set to be released on March 27th, 2013. I imagine it will hit the internet earlier though.

The Wolverine stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, and Brian Tee. It's set to hit theaters on July 26th, 2013. Here's the synopsis...

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

AFTER EARTH - 2 New International Character Posters

Two new international character posters have been released M. Night Shyamalan’s decent looking sci-fi film After Earth, which stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith. A friend of mine recently saw an early cut of the film, and said it was a really good movie. He didn't even know Shyamalan directed it until the credits rolled at the end, and it kind of shocked him because of how good the movie was. So it looks like there's a chance this movie will be worth checking out. Here's the synopsis:

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

The film also stars Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and Isabelle Fuhrman, and it opens up on June 7th, 2013. To watch the latest trailer for the movie click here.

THE WOLVERINE - Hugh Jackman and James Mangold on Fighting in the Film

Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold seem very excited to show us what they've done with The Wolverine. The first trailer for the film hits theaters near the end of the month and I'm hoping to be blown away. In a recent interview with Total Film Jackman, Mangold, and Will Yun Lee (Silver Samurai) discuss the fighting in the film, and if the brutality of it will cause problems with the censors.

Let's start out with Yun Lee talking about seeing Jackman fight in the film,

I've seen playbacks of Hugh fighting different characters in the movie he's no joke! He's probably in the best shape I've ever seen him in all the X-Mens.

Of course Jackman had to work his ass off to get in shape and be able to pull off some of these fight moves. Jackman went on to discuss his training for the movie,

The fighting style in the this movie is very Japanese-specific. The movie's stunt team 8711 is probably one of the best in the business. In training they beat me up all day and I could barely even walk home! Because we're dealing with weapons like swords and Wolverine's claws, even though they're fake, you're still just a fraction away from getting hurt or getting hit in the eye...I was like, 'Oh my god, I better not miss my timing.

It sounds like the movie is shaping up to be pretty brutal. When asked if the brutal action will cause problems with the censors Mangold said,

I don't tend to think of that per se, but I do want the movie to have an intensity. I don't want it to feel just like a CG fest. I think so much of what's badass about Wolverine is his physicality: the sweat, blood, passion and anger. What we trying to do in terms of the action is restore, or even for the first time kind of explore his physicality on a more visceral level.

I can't wait to see what that looks like! Jackman goes on to talk about the title of the movie, and how it's different from any of the other X-Men movies that have been made.

I'm thrilled the studio called it The Wolverine instead of Wolverine 2, because we're trying to set it up as a standalone picture. Tonally, it's different from the other X-Men movies. It's got massive action sequences, as people would expect, and it'll be great fun. But it is a character-driven movie. It's about a guy completely out of his element, in this world that's foreign to him, and how he copes with that. I feel like we have the opportunity to deliver that badass, kick-ass Wolverine I know everybody wants to see.

Now, I remember Jackman saying the same exact thing about X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but I think this time it's going to be as awesome as they say it will. The Wolverine will be released in theaters July 26th, 2013.

James Cameron Offers Update on AVATAR 2 and 3

It's been three years since James Cameron released his sci-fi film Avatar, which ended up being the most successful movie of all time. Since its release there's been a couple of sequels in the works. You'd think it'd be shooting right now, but it's not. Cameron recently gave an update, which basically tells us that he's living in Pandora in his mind right now and still ironing out the script and details of his story. Here's what he had to say in an interview with Bleeding Cool:

I'm working on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3. I was talking the other day with Peter Jackson and said, 'You had it easy dude. You had the books when you did the second and third 'Lord of the Rings.' I have to create my own books in my head and extract a script from it. I'm deep into it and I'm living in Pandora right now. There is that start up torque where you feel it's coming to you. Then you build up momentum. That's when it gets fun. The characters talk and it's writing itself. I'm almost there right now. It's building fast.

The director recently moved to New Zealand to work on the film, where he is being inspired for the new film. He added that "when you live in a special world like Pandora, you have to live in that world." He went on to discuss writing the sequels and the pressure of outdoing the the first film,

The first film is the biggest blockbuster of all-time, earning $2.782 billion at the worldwide box office, so does he feel pressure? "Pressure, no. It's a little daunting because sequels are always tricky. You have to be surprising and stay ahead of audience anticipation. At the same time, you have to massage their feet with things that they know and love about the first film. I've walked that line in the past, so I'm not too worried about it. At the same time, I definitely have to deliver the goods."

I'm sure Cameron is going to do some really spectacular things with the sequels. I loved the first film, and it's exciting to find out and see where he's going to take the audiences next in this fantastic universe he's created. We've heard in the past that it will include a lot of underwater world stuff, so that should be something really cool to look forward to.

The first sequel was originally supposed to be released in 2014, but it doesn't look like Cameron is going to be able to hit that release date at this point.

Superhero Movie Leading Ladies Don't Get Much Screen Time

As you know no superhero movie is complete without its leading lady. These are big actresses that get paid a lot of money to co-star in these films, and some of you might be shocked to learn that they really don't get that much screen time in the comic book movies they star in. It breaks down to an average of 22 minutes.

In the most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, there's an article called 'Behind Every Superhero, There's a Woman Without Much to Do'. It basically breaks down how much time each of these leading ladies get in the movie, and it's surprisingly not much! The actresses included in the article include Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-Man, Blake Lively in The Green Lantern, Natalie Portman in Thor, Gwyneth Paltrow in Iron Man, Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Dark Knight, Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man, Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, and Jennifer Connelly in Hulk.

Do any of these screen time numbers surprise you?

David Goyer on MAN OF STEEL Secrecy and Its Story of Hope

I can't wait for Warner Bros. to release another trailer for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel giving us a look at the action-packed awesomeness that we've all been hearing about! The trailers that we've seen show us virtually nothing, it's all been just a big tease so far. According to screenwriter David Goyer, the stuff we've seen is just the tip of the iceberg, and he explains that he's happy about the secrecy surrounding the film. Here's what he told Total Film,

It's something Chris [Nolan] tried hard to do with the Batman films. I'm genuinely pleased with how much secrecy we've been able to maintain. There's so much of the movie that people don't know, that hasn't been touched upon. The trailer's just the tiniest, tiniest tip of the iceberg.

It's so exciting to think about what could be in store for us. It's pretty amazing that they've been able to keep a lot of things secret, especially in this day and age when almost everything leaks out online. Goyer goes on to discuss the dark tone of the film and how it's a more hopeful story,

Relatable and realistic doesn't necessarily mean dark. I think it would be inappropriate for us to approach a Superman film as if we were doing The Dark Knight. The Batman films are a lot more nihilistic; Superman has always been a story about hope.

If we go off of what people who have seen the film are saying, Man of Steel is going to be epically badass!

The story follows a young boy who "learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind."

Man of Steel hits theaters in 3-D June 14th, 2013, and it stars Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Michael ShannonKevin Costner as Pa Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy, Harry Lennixas as General Swanwick, Antje Traue as Faora, and Aylet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van.

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Getting Remade by Joel Silver

Looks like that Escape From New York remake that was killed off by New Line Cinema a year ago is going back into development with a new producer at a new studio. Joel Silver is looking to bring the story back to the big screen for Studio Canal.

I'm a big fan of the 1981 John Carpenter classic! It starred a badass Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken. The story follows the tough convict who is dropped into a futuristic New York that has been turned into a crazy violent maximum security prison. Snake is offered a pardon, if he successfully rescues the president, who is being held hostage by the prison kingpin after his plane crashes within the city walls. Snake is also fitted with a lethal device that will kill him if he tries to run or misses the deadline.

When the project was set up at New Line, Crazies director Breck Eisner was going to be developing the film with producer Neil Moritz. When the project was being set up Gerard Butler, Jeremy Renner, and Tom Hardy were all up for the role of Snake. But for one reason or another it all fell apart.

They'll be starting from scratch with this new attempt at a reboot. According to Deadline, "Silver is planning an entirely new take on the material. The goal is to turn it into a trilogy, starting with an origin story in a fashion similar to the way Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes restarted that franchise."

I'm not the biggest fan of movies being remade, but if they can actually make another entertaining movie out of this, good for them! I liked Rise of the Planet of the Apes a lot, but thought the recent Total Recall remake was pretty weak. So it will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Is there any kind of excitement for you about seeing this film franchise get a reboot?

This Incredible Hulk shaped cloud sure looks angry! I found the image over on Geekologie who made a great comment that "a skywriter missed a golden opportunity to add a 'HULK SMASH' above him." That would have taken this already cool image to a whole new level of awesome. I love clouds, especially when they look like The Hulk. What's the coolest cloud formation you've ever seen?

Eric Powell Offers Update on THE GOON Movie

Before Veronica Mars got its massive movie Kickstarter, Goon creator Eric Powell used the service to help kickstart the big screen adaptation of his comic book into a feature film. We all can't wait to see it but we haven't heard much since the Kickstarter campaign, however things are apparently progressing. Powell explains that Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti are still attached to the project saying, "Everyone who was originally attached is still attached."

The money raised from the Kickstarter campaign is being used to produce a rough early animatic version of the full feature film. Now Powell is working with producer David Fincher and Blur Studios to make it happen. BadTaste.it caught up with Powell at Cartoomics 2013 where they asked him about the film project, and although it's not really a big update he does say they are working on it, they have a script, and it's currently going through the storyboard process. He also says they're ready to go on the movie, they just need the additional funding to actually make that happen. That money will be raised by what they are currently developing with the Kickstarter money. This movie will be awesome when it finally happens! Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer. Here's the full interview:
