Miguel Arteta Will Direct ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY

0
0

A year ago it was announced that The Kids Are All Right director Lisa Cholodenko was going to direct Disney's big screen adaptation of the classic kids book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Deadline now reports that she's no longer attached to direct the movie, and that Youth in Revolt and Cedar Rapids director Miguel Arteta has taken her place. I like the other films that he's made, and I'm sure he's going to end up doing a solid job with this one.

The book was written by Judith Viorst, and follows a young boy who endures a frustrating day that begins with him waking up to find gum in his hair and ends with him threatening to move to Australia. The books basically prepares children for the craziness of life and how to deal with all of the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days that lie ahead.

The family comedy is being produced under Shawn Levy's 21 Laps banner along with the Jim Henson Company. Levy and Dan Levine will produce for 21 Laps, while Lisa Henson and Jason Lust will produce for Henson Co. Screenwriter Rob Lieber is adapting the story for the big screen. If the film does well, the studio will most likely want to turn it into a family film franchise.

Here's a short description of the book:

Alexander knew it was going to be a terrible day when he woke up with gum in this hair.

And it got worse...

His best friend deserted him. There was no dessert in his lunch bag. And, on top of all that, there were lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV!

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION - 3 New High Res Photos

Three more high resolution photos have been released for G.I. Joe: Retaliation featuring some Cobra villains. At least they finally got the look of the G.I. Joe franchise right. It's much more in line with the animated series a lot of us grew up watching.

The film was directed by Jon M. Chu from a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It stars Bruce Willis, Dwayne JohnsonByung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and Channing Tatum. The film opens March 29th, 2013.

A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences production on G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

Paramount to Adapt the Sc-Fi Novel NEXUS for the Big Screen

Paramount Pictures has picked up the rights to the sci-fi novel by Ramez Naam called Nexus. This sounds like it could be a really cool movie. The story "takes place in the near future in a battle for mind control. A young technologist becomes the first person to invent controllable nanotechnology software for the brain. He then becomes an unwilling pawn in an international battle to control the new technology, chased by mercenaries and government agents looking to make enhancements of their own. The book was published to rave reviews late last year by Angry Robot."

The studio is currently looking for someone to adapt the film, and they are in negotiations with Ari Handel and Mark Heyman to take it on. Handel has worked with Darren Aronofsky on several projects as well as his upcoming Biblical epic Noah. Then there's Heyman who wrote Aronofsky’s Black Swan. Both of these guys seem like solid writers, so this could end up being a great movie.

The fact that both writers have worked with Aronofsky makes me wonder if maybe this could be a future project for Aronofsky to direct somewhere down the road. I could see him taking on something like this.

Here's the full description from the book:

In the near future, the experimental nano-drug Nexus can link humans together, mind to mind. There are some who want to improve it. There are some who want to eradicate it. And there are others who just want to exploit it.

When a young scientist is caught improving Nexus, he's thrust over his head into a world of danger and international espionage - for there is far more at stake than anyone realizes.

From the halls of academe to the halls of power, from the headquarters of an elite US agency in Washington DC to a secret lab beneath a top university in Shanghai, from the underground parties of San Francisco to the illegal biotech markets of Bangkok, from an international neuroscience conference to a remote monastery in the mountains of Thailand - Nexus is a thrill ride through a future on the brink of explosion.

EVIL DEAD WonderCon Announcement Video and Clip

For those of you heading out to WonderCon in Anaheim, California at the end of the month, you'll be happy to hear that the team behind the Evil Dead reboot will be there showing off the horrific awesomeness of their new horror film!

Director Fede Alvarez and producers Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert made this little announcement video for the panel event, and they included a collection of footage from the film. Some of which is new. I've also included a creepy short clip from the film called "Mirror"as well for you to watch. Too bad they edited out the creepiest part of this scene.

In the film, five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist's tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

The movie is set to be released on April 5th, 2013, and according to almost everyone who's seen the film it's going to be gruesomely spectacular!

Disturbing Cyberpunk Short ANAMNESIS - Memories as Drugs

I've got a great short film for you to watch today! It's a well made Cyberpunk movie called Anamnesis, and it's got a pretty gritty and disturbing story. It revolves around the concept that memories can be turned into drugs, and explores how our memories make us who we are. Here's the synopsis...

In a cyberpunk future where memories are interchangeable, a desperate man finds his salvation in stealing whole lives to remake his past. As he reflects on a user that went too far he finds that the pieces of the past are difficult to put together and impossible to escape.

The short was directed Brad Champagne, co-written by Brady Nelson, and was made on a shoestring budget. I really liked this one, check it out and let us know if you liked it too!

Kurtzman and Orci Developing New Sci-Fi Film SAGITTARIUS

Universal Pictures has just picked up an original pitch for a sci-fi thriller from writer/producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers). The movie is called Sagittarius, and they have hired Steven Karczynski to write the script. He hasn't really done anything that you'd know. He previously wrote a Black List screenplay called The Umbra with is set to be directed by Martin Campbell (Green Lantern). He also wrote the script for the big screen adaptation of the video game Dark Void for Reliance and Plan B Entertainment.

Unfortunately there's no information on the project in regards to the story. I wish I had something else to tell you about this project, but that's all we have to go off of right now. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Kevin Feige on Pepper Potts Suiting Up in IRON MAN 3 and More

0
0

If you're looking for some more cool Iron Man 3 information, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently discussed the highly anticipated Marvel film with About.com. In it he talks about the high stakes of the story, its family appeal, the film's rating, Pepper Potts suiting up, and the love triangle between Tony Stark, Pepper, and his suits of armor.

The love triangle in this movie is really between Tony, Pepper and the suits. Tony, Pepper and his obsession with those suits, and the obsession with technology. And, it’s sort of unique for a big superhero summer blockbuster franchise to have that kind of layers. Yes, there’s a bad guy. Yes, the stakes are very, very high--the President of the United States is in danger. Air Force One is attacked. There are big stakes to this movie. But the real stakes are, is Tony going to be able to set aside the obsession to spend all day, every day in that workshop, tinkering with the suits in order to focus on, as he says in the trailer, the one thing that matters most - Pepper. And that actually is what the entire movie’s about.

A lot of fans are wondering if Potts is going to suit up in the film. Feige doesn't give a direct answer, but he certainly throws out some hints that that's what we could see!

In this movie we play with the convention of the damsel in distress. We are bored by the damsel in distress. But, sometimes we need our hero to be desperate enough in fighting for something other than just his own life. So, there is fun to be had with "Is Pepper in danger or is Pepper the savior?" over the course of this movie. In terms of where we go with future movies, we’ll see. In the comic books she does get a taste for the suit and becomes her own hero named Rescue, who doesn’t necessarily battle other people, but is on missions to help people and to save people. Will we do that down the line with Gwyneth Paltrow? Who knows. But her being in the suit is something we have been playing with since Iron Man 2, where we did some designs and it didn’t end up fitting in that movie. But the little taste you saw here [in a clip] is something that we’re certainly interested in.

Feige goes on to talk about some early footage from the film that was recently shown to some press outlets. The footage included Tony Stark coming in contact with a ten year-old kid who helps him out. Here's what Feige had to say about the scene and the kid that they ended up casting in the role.

Here [Tony] is in the middle of Tennessee with his hat pulled low, and he’s trying to do this investigation. And there's this very sweet and funny relationship that he begins with this little boy. He is quite the smart-aleck with the little boy, oh yes. The boy is shocked at first, and then slowly begins to sort of give as good as he gets from Tony. We auditioned lots and lots of kids, and Tyson came in and was just a real kid. He could barely keep a straight face looking at Robert. He bonded with Robert completely, and we decided, you know what, this is the kid to cast.

I called Robert. I said, "I think he’s the best kid. I’m going to cast him." He said, "Let me call him"...And when he came out of school, his cell phone rang and it was Robert Downey, Jr. calling saying, you’re going to be in Iron Man 3. And so it continued like that for the rest of the production. It was really great and they formed a nice bond. And it is a fun bond. Tony does not treat him like a kid...he doesn’t, you know, pat him on the head and treat him like a little boy necessarily. Which, I think little boys like when adults don’t treat them like that. So, we’ve screened it for a few audiences just in a normal test screening, and this relationship is ranked as one of the most surprising, unique and new things about the movie.

He goes on to talk about the family appeal of the film, and the rating saying,

In terms of the marketing of this movie, if you go back and look at the marketing of Avengers, it promises a much darker movie than the movie actually is. The movie is much more fun than the trailer would show. Same thing with this. This trailer is--he’s being blown apart, his life is at stake, how will he get out of it? The movie is much, much more fun than that, but that’s what gets people into the audience. All of our movies are PG-13. I know parents who take their four-year-olds, and I know parents who won’t let their kids see them until they’re thirteen. So, that really depends on that. For us, there are things you can do if you are going by the letter of the law in a PG-13 movie...there’s a level of violence you can add, there’s a level of sexuality you can have, there’s a level of language you can have. We never go anywhere near the top of that. Because we don’t want to. Because that’s not what our characters are about. When you have the amount of fighting and explosions, and some blood on his nose when he puts the suit on, we do want that. We want it to be real. Otherwise, it’s just a CG thing hitting a CG person. So that’s why we’re always in that PG-13 range. But, Jon Favreau on the first two movies, Joss Whedon on the Avengers, myself--we have kids. We want to be able to take our kids to these movies and to enjoy them. It’s really the level of intensity that determines whether parents are comfortable taking their kids to it as opposed to content, necessarily.

Marvel has done a great job with the movies they've been making, and it looks and sounds like Iron Man 3 is going to kick some solid PG-13 ass.

Are you hoping to see Pepper Potts suit up in this third movie?

Actor Portraits from THE WOLVERINE

Director James Mangold has shared three black and white photograph portraits of his principal cast members featuring Hugh Jackman (Logan), Rila [frick] ushima (Yukio) and Tao Okamoto (Mariko). I wonder if Mangold will be releasing more of these photos of some of the other cast members.

The Wolverine will be released in theaters July 26th, 2013. This movie is going to end up being so cool.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US: Who Invited Doomsday to the Party?

0

...whoever did is seriously getting dunked in the pool.

I mean the guy's got spikes in his arms, can't muster up any conversation other than repeating the words "Metropolis" and "Superman" ad nauseam, and not to mention the disservice he does to green pants everywhere.

Just sayin.

Regardless of all that though, Doomsday has been announced as a playable character, and for all the grief I give him he actually does look like a lot of fun to play. Full of power attacks and a bit slow moving, but with a killer special move, and surprising juggling ability he has all the potential to be a fan favorite. Other than, you know, being Doomsday. Peep the trailer below to see him in action.

Mad Men's Jared Harris Joins Paul W.S. Anderson's POMPEII

Jared Harris (Mad Men, Sherlock Holmes 2) has joined the cast of Paul W.S. Anderson's 3D action-adventure film Pompeii. He joins the previously cast Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Emily Browning (Sucker Punch).

The story is set in 79 A.D. and follows Milo (Harington), a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Flavia (Browning), the daughter of a wealthy merchant (Harris) who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman general.

I always thought the story of Pompeii would make a good film, I'm just not really all that excited that it's being directed by Anderson. He's putting together a pretty solid cast though, so that's good.

THOR's Jamie Alexander as Wonder Woman - Photoshopped

Here's a fun photoshop job of Thor's Jamie Alexander all decked out as Wonder Woman. This may be old, but it's the first time that I've seen it. It seems a lot of fans think she would be perfect for the part of the Amazonian Princess, even Alexander herself has expressed interest in playing the character. If a Wonder Woman movie ever does happen, I think she would be a solid choice. But she does say that right now her loyalty lies with Marvel. When talking about the character and the recent reboot, here's what she had to say,

They tried to reboot Wonder Woman, which was a huge embarrassment if you ask me. Adrianne Palicki’s great, but you can’t take someone – no matter how talented – and put them in a trashy costume, then say they’re supposed to be a positive role model for women. I don’t think she got into it thinking that’s what they’re going to do, and I think she played her hand as well as she could, but that project was just not the way to go.

I’ve actually been approached a couple of times about it. I think right now, my loyalty is to Marvel. But yes, I’d love to play more characters like Sif: keep the young girls of the world safe from slutty costumes and poorly written scripts!

Would you like to see Alexander play Wonder Woman? What other actresses would be a good choice for the character?

Here's another cool piece of art from Phil Noto that I wanted to share with you. It's a great poster design he did inspired by J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. I thought it was a pretty rad design that you might enjoy. This sequel is going to be epic!

Semi Cool...Mostly Weird As Hell Spider-Man Fight Video

When I first saw this video on Reddit it was titled as "This Is How Spiderman Should Fight". Don't get me wrong some of the moves in this video are pretty awesome, but there are also some moments where it just gets weird. The music is kind of an odd fit, the sack tap midway through I could've done without, and he throws in some random dance moves I suppose because f*** it. All in all it was everything I look for in a Youtube video, plus I can't not hype a fellow ginger. Nicely done Gingerninjatrickster.

Will Steven Spielberg Direct JURASSIC PARK IV?

0
0

UPDATE: The Directing Gig went to Colin Trevorrow which makes this whole aritcle irrelevant. But you can read it if you want!

I'm curious to know why Universal Pictures hasn't announced who's directing Jurassic Park 4. The movie is gearing up for production, the studio is bringing together a crew, they have production offices, a fake production name, and rumor has it the film is set to start shooting this summer in Louisiana. Things are rolling forward, this movie is happening, so who will be at the helm? The studio has to have a director on board and ready to go otherwise they wouldn't have taken it this far.

So why is the studio keeping it a secret? Drew McWeeny over at HitFix has an interesting theory that Steven Spielberg could be coming back to direct the project. Now Spielberg has said in previous interviews that he is only producing, and not directing, but that doesn't mean he can't change him mind. After all he did recently postpone his other film Robopocalypse, was it so he could fit Jurassic Park 4 into his schedule? It's possible, but you never know.

HitFix says that even the crew that is being hired aren't being told who the director is. They also suggest that the studio is waiting to make the director announcement until after the original 1993 film gets its 3D re-release. It would be amazing if Spielberg came back to direct this fourth film! I'd love that!

Now if the studio is looking to bring in a new director to take on the project, they speculate that it could possibly go to Joseph Kosinksi who just directed Oblivion for the studio. But I've heard that Kosinski will start work on the next Tron sequel when he's finished with Oblivion

Producer Frank Marshall has been actively talking about the film on his Twitter account, saying things like there's no final decision on where JP4 will shoot. And just yesterday he said, "All's well on JP4, updates soon." So I guess we'll just have to patiently wait and see what kind of updates we'll get.

Would you like to see Spielberg back for Jurassic Park 4? If they did decided to bring in a new director to take it on, who would you like that director to be?

Colin Trevorrow Set to Direct JURASSIC PARK IV

0
0

Right after the speculation that Steven Spielberg might come back to direct Jurassic Park IV, producer Frank Marshall announced via Twitter that Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow is the man that will bring the dinosaurs back to life on the big screen! Marshall called the director "an exciting young filmmaker who understands and respects the world that is Jurassic Park."

It was previously rumored that he was up for the job of directing Star Wars Episode VII, but in reality he was really going to be directing Jurassic Park IV, which is still a very cool directing gig to land! When the rumors about him directing Star Wars were floating around he gave a statement saying, "To clarify, there is another film we all love that I'm currently trying not to mess up."

I loved what he did with Safety Not Guaranteed, and although it wasn't a huge big budget special effects movie, the guy proved that he's a great storyteller. I'm sure he's going to do a great job bringing this fourth Jurassic Park film to life! I'm looking forward to seeing what they are planning for it!

Are you excited about who they got to direct Jurassic Park IV?

Watch Stan Lee Parkour Master!

Want to see legendary 90-year-old comic book writer Stan Lee bust out some epic Parkour moves? In this video Lee decides to skip the car in favor of doing some insanely crazy Freerunning Parkour! Of course it's not really Lee doing these stunts, but it doesn't make it any less cool! Especially since he gets his own theme song called "Stan Lee Parkour Master," which includes some pretty fun lyrics. I think Parkour is going to be the next hobby I take on. Enjoy the video!
