It was recently announced that Kevin Smith would start working on Clerks III, which he said would be his last film. The filmmaker has announced on hiFacebook page that he has started writing the third film:

THE BEGINNING OF THE END
20 years ago today, we started shooting CLERKS.
20 years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4:20 this morning and started writing CLERKS III.
It's been like hanging out with old friends.
And after 2 hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion...
CLERKS III will be the best film I'll ever make.

He also posted a screenshot of the title page of the first draft of the script. It sounds like he's very confident that this movie is going to be great. I hope it is the best film he ever makes! I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Here's a great comedy sketch called Are You Watching The Wire?, and it centers on a gangster who "commits the one offense worse than snitching: spoiling Season 2." I thought this was really funny, so I hope you enjoy it!

Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. have announced that Christopher Nolan's next film Interstellar will be released on November 7th, 2014, in regular theaters and IMAX. It doesn't say in the press release, but I'm pretty sure Nolan is going to at least shoot parts of this movie in IMAX, but wouldn't it be amazing if he shot the whole film in IMAX?

As of right now all that we know about the story is that it's based on scientific theories developed by Cal Tech physicist, Kip Thorne, and follows a group of explorers who travel through a wormhole. It's also being described as "a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding."

Nolan wrote the script with his brother Jonathan, and is set to direct the picture. I'm excited to see what Nolan bring us this time! Here's a couple of statements from the Press Release:

Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures said, “As a filmmaker and storyteller, Chris has continuously entertained the world with his extraordinary and unparalleled talents. I am pleased beyond measure to welcome him to the Paramount Pictures family. Partnering with Chris, Emma, Lynda and Warner Bros. to release this original idea next November is the perfect way to start the Thanksgiving and holiday movie season for audiences around the world.”

Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, said, “Christopher Nolan is truly one of the great auteurs working in film today, and we’re extremely proud of our successful and ongoing collaboration with him and Emma Thomas.  We are excited to be teaming with Paramount, and look forward to working with the Nolans, and producer Lynda Obst, on this extraordinary new project.”

Check Out Tony Stark's New Ride in IRON MAN 3

This new Iron Man 3 photo gives us a look at Tony Stark showing off his new ride, the Audi R8 e-tron. It's the first electric car from the German automaker. It's not just a product placement car though, there's a reason they used this car in the movie. Variety reports that "Marvel was looking for a car partner that could provide a hybrid or electric-powered convertible for the movie since the drop top plays a significant role in the script." It's not known what role the drop top will play, but I guess we'll find out! I think the car actually gets destroyed when the Mandarin attacks Stark at his mansion. Unless that was different Audi that we saw in the trailer. As you know, Stark likes Audis.

Two more film clips have been released for Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper's new drama The Place Beyond the Pines. The story revolves around "a professional motorcycle rider (Gosling) who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational feud." It's also been described as "a rich dramatic thriller, tracing the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villains." I've heard very good things about this movie, and I'm looking forward to seeing it for myself.

The film was written and directed by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine). It also has a great supporting cast that includes Greta Gerwig, Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta, Ali Mahershalalhasbaz, Gabe FazioMax Martini, and Emory Cohen

The Place Beyond the Pines opens in theaters on March 29th, 2013. Check out the clips below.

I loved what Ron Moore did for Battlestar Galactica, and I'm looking forward to seeing how his next TV series Helix turns out. The SyFy Channel just picked up 13-episodes of the dark thriller that will go straight-to-series.

The story follows a team of scientists who are "investigating a possible disease outbreak at an Arctic research facility who find themselves trying to protect the world from annihilation." We don't know much more about the story other than that. Syfy’s president of original content Mark Stern had this to say in a statement,

With its well-drawn characters, taut drama, and incredible production team, we couldn’t be more excited to see this intense thrill-ride of a series come to life.

Production on the series is expected to start soon, and according to Deadline, should debut later this year. Are you excited to see Moore's new series? Or are you still pissed off at him for how he ended Battlestar?

I might be one of the few people left who is excited for director Jose Padilha's reboot of RoboCop. I love everything I've seen from the set photos in regards to the suit, and I like the direction that they plan on taking the film. I think it's going to be one of those movies that turns out a lot better than what people are expecting. One of the film's stars, Abbie Cornish, recently did an interview with VH1 and praised the film saying...

It's gonna be a massively kick-ass film. I actually have a voicemail message from Jose Padilha, the director. He says in the message, 'I don't think we've got a great movie. I think we've got a classic.'

I hope she's right, because that would be awesome. The movie comes out on February 7th, 2014, and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

In "RoboCop," the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Check out this crazy intense clip for the upcoming Antoine Fuqua-directed action thriller Olympus Has Fallen. The clip features Gerard Butler walking away from the White House as a group of terrorists comes in and starts to wreak havoc. I actually wasn't really sold on this movie until I saw this clip. This movie looks crazy action-packed! It's being described as "Die Hard in the White House," and it also stars Aaron Eckhart, Morgan FreemanAngela Bassett, Dylan McDermott, Ashley Judd, Melissa Leo, and Rick Yune.

When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.

The movie will be released on March 22nd, 2013. Let us know what you think of the clip!

Amber Heard's ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE Is Finally Being Released

After seven years of sitting on the shelf collecting dust Jonathan Levine's debut film, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, is actually going to get released. Since this movie has been made Levine has directed The Wackness50/50, and Warm Bodies. I saw this movie one year at Comic-Con and I'll be honest, I wasn't a big fan. He's a solid filmmaker now, but I wasn't impressed with this one at all, particularly Amber Heard's performance.  The movie will finally be released sometime this year, but there's still no solid release date. Here's the synopsis for the film...

Starring Amber Heard and Anson Mount, ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY is about a group of high-schoolers who invite Mandy Lane, 'a good girl' who becomes the object of everyone’s affection after returning from summer break, to a weekend party on a secluded ranch. While the festivities rage on, the number of revelers begins to mysteriously drop one at a time.

Levine had this to say in a statement,

I am thrilled that MANDY LANE has been rescued and is back where it belongs with Harvey and Bob.  Hard to believe it’s been seven years, but then again I’ve always perceived myself as a misunderstood artist who was light years ahead of his time, so I am thrilled the world has finally caught up. Seriously, I am incredibly proud of the film and of the hard work that my cast and collaborators put into it, and I am so happy the world will finally get a chance to see it.

Executive producer Keith Calder had this to say,

It’s finally time for me to come clean… During the production of MANDY LANE, I broke a mirror and doomed the film to seven years of bad luck. Thankfully, the team at RADiUS-TWC has shown up to rescue our film and clear my guilty conscience. I’m ecstatic that our first film with RADiUS-TWC is also the first film we produced, and I’m looking forward to working with Harvey, Bob, Jason, and Tom on the release.

Check out a previously released trailer for the film...

Kaneda Flips Us the Bird in AKIRA Poster Art

Here's an awesome Akira poster created by Ash Thorpe, and it features a pissed off Kaneda flipping us the bird. I think this is a great piece of art, and here's a note from the artist...

This piece was a total pain in the ass the whole time I worked on it.  I find it incredibly difficult to hold that line between fan art and creating my own vision.  I am such a big fan of Otomo’s work that I don’t want to just replicate his style but bring my own sense of things but not push to far away from the world it was created. Sound fussy? It really is.  Another challenge I had was creating the likeness and attitude that he brings to the comic.  He has a certain demeanor that is very strong but can be hard to capture unless you find those subtle cues and accent them.

Anyways.  It was a total challenge with this one but I am happy I stuck with it and figured it out. To me my work is never finished but I just decided that its time is up and move along to the next challenge.

Do you like what he came up with?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's DON JON Has New Title and Photos

Earlier this year Joseph Gordon-Levitt premiered his new film Don Jon's Addiction at Sundance. This was the first film that he directed, and I think he did a great job. I loved the movie, and I think it's going to do pretty well with audiences. Gordon-Levitt recently took to his Facebook page and revealed that he changed the title of the movie to Don Jon. He also released some new photos from the film for you to check out. In case you're wondering why he changed the title he explains saying,

So, as you might’ve heard already, I wrote and directed a movie last year, and it’s coming out later this year. Which is absolutely crazy, and I still kinda can’t believe it. Anyway, I’m posting this today to let you all know that I’m changing its title. It’s now called… DON JON. I decided to change it, first of all, because DON JON is just so short and simple, and if you know me, you know I’m a fan of brevity. Second of all, it felt to me like the old title, “Don Jon’s Addiction” was throwing some people off a bit from the point of the movie. People were assuming it was a film about porn addiction and sex addiction, which really isn’t true. That’d be sort of like saying “The Maltese Falcon” is a movie about a statue of a falcon. DON JON is a comedy about how men and women treat each other, and how the media we consume can create unrealistic expectations that we put on one another. That’s why the story centers around a relationship between a young man (played by me) who watches too much pornography and a young woman (played by Scarlett) who watches too many romantic Hollywood movies. It’s a topic I personally find fascinating and hilarious.

And while I have your attention, I figured I’d show you the first production still we’re releasing of Jon’s father, played by none other than Tough Tony Danza. More to show soon. We’re just starting to work on the trailer now. And I’m heading down to SxSW with Tony this weekend with the film, so I’ll see some of you in Austin!

Check out our review of the film here, and a video review that we did here if you want some more info. Here's the synopsis:

Jon Martello objectifies everything in his life: his apartment, his car, his family, his church, and, of course, women. His buddies even call him Don Jon because of his ability to pull “10s” every weekend without fail. Yet even the finest flings don’t compare to the transcendent bliss he achieves alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Dissatisfied, he embarks on a journey to find a more gratifying sex life, but ends up learning larger lessons of life and love through relationships with two very different women.

EVIL DEAD Remake Movie Review Round-Up!

$

Oh how I wish I was up at SXSW! I've been really pumped up for the Fede Alvarez-directed remake of Evil Dead! Looks like the movie is going to deliver the awesomeness, especially for horror fans. Here's a round-up of reviews from around the web giving their thoughts on the film. After reading through these I'm excited as hell to see the movie for myself!

ShockTillYouDrop - "Evil Dead is slickly put together, but it is also vapid and vacuous. It wants to be an entertaining film because that's its job, but it's only willing to try so hard at it. For horror fans, that's probably enough.  There is gore aplenty and over the top violence.

/Film - "Evil Dead veers between being a tweaked but faithful remake of elements of Raimi’s first two movies — like a greatest hits record that is also a collection of covers — and its own original film."

Film School Rejects- "Evil Dead is a better film than was probably expected, but as good as the effects and bloodwork are here — and they are jaw-droppingly fantastic — they don’t make up for the film’s incredibly shoddy and flaccid script. Still, horror fans should support it if only to encourage the genre’s return to a harder tone and more practical effects. And because I really want to see a sequel."

Variety - "Ultimately, the new “Evil Dead” will rely heavily on existing fans of this unlikely franchise to make a killing in theatrical and homevid release. Those who get the inside jokes should be easy to spot: They’ll be the ones laughing when the full-bore carnage erupts most furiously onscreen."

Cinema Blend - "With titles like 2010’s The Nightmare on Elm Street, 2003’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre and 2009’s Friday The 13th is totally understandable that horror fans would be nervous about an Evil Dead remake, but you can put those fears to rest. With unrelenting gore, an awesome cast, and authentic respect for the original, Alvarez’s film is a straight up bloody good time at the movies."

FearNet - "Simply put, Evil Dead is stark, dark, exciting, and thoroughly grim -- and that's more than good enough.  That a remake of the "original" cabin in the woods movie works so damn well even after Cabin in the Woods lampooned the concept so thoroughly, well, that's sort of impressive in a highly geeky way."

IGN - "The result is a perfect marriage of old and new, with Fede Alvarez staying true to the essence of the original while at the same time updating it with new ideas, stories and characters that serve to make the Evil Dead mythology that much richer."

The movie stars Jane LevyShiloh FernandezLou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore. In the remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Evil Dead hits theaters on April 12th!

Fun Batman and Moonrise Kingdom Geek Art Mashup

Here's a great geek art mashup that combines the awesomness of Batman with the world of Wes Anderson's last movie, Moonrise Kingdom. The illustration was created by Ramon Villalobos, and I love how it turned out. It's a humorous piece, and here's what the artist had to say about it.

This movie was pretty good and so I thought the only thing that would make those two characters more badass was if they were Batgirl and Robin.

If you like this and want it as a print or a t shirt or something, I just started a Society6 store
