Fun OBLIVION / WALL-E Trailer Mashup

I'm sure some of you noticed that there were some similarities between Tom Cruise's Oblivion and Pixar's WALL-E. And as you see the two are a perfect match for a trailer mashup! Both films take place in the future, involve robotic drones, and a destroyed planet Earth. The trailer was edited together really well using the footage of WALL-E being cut to the audio of the Oblivion trailer. I love that Cruise is the voice of WALL-E. I'm sure you'll enjoy this...

Sam Raimi Blames Blizzard for WORLD OF WARCRAFT Falling Apart

I was really looking forward to seeing Sam Raimi's vision of World of Warcraft, but as you know, it didn't work out. There were no clear details at the time on why Raimi's project fell apart, but now Source Code director Duncan Jones is on board to bring it to life, which is equally as exciting for me. Jones is a great director, and I'm excited to see what his vision is. In a recent interview with Vulture Raimi was asked what he thought about Jones directing the movie to which he replied,

I loved his movie Moon, and I think he's a strikingly talented director. I bet that if anyone can do a great job with it, it's him.

The director was then asked what the biggest ostacle was for him in making the movie, and he basically blamed Blizzard for their lack of communication.

Robert Rodat was working on the script, and it was taking a long time. I think they were getting a little antsy at Legendary, the production company. Actually, what happened was even more complicated, so let me go back a little bit. First, they asked me if I wanted to make it, and I said, "Yes, I love World of Warcraft, and I think it would make a great picture." So I read a screenplay they had that was written by the guys at [Warcraft developer] Blizzard, and it didn't quite work for me. I told them I wanted to make my own original story with Robert, so we pitched it to Legendary and they accepted it, and then we pitched it to Blizzard, and they had reservations, but they accepted it. Then Robert wrote the screenplay, and only once he was done did we realize that Blizzard had veto power, and we didn't know that. And they had never quite approved the original story we pitched them. Those reservations were their way of saying, "We don't approve this story, and we want to go a different way," so after we had spent nine months working on this thing, we basically had to start over. And Robert did start over, but it was taking too long for the people at Blizzard, and their patience ran out. Honestly, I think it was mismanagement on their behalf, not to explain to us that the first story was vetoed long ago. Why did they let us keep working on it? Were they afraid to tell me?

I'm not sure why Blizzard would do that and waste the time of these people, but that's exactly what they did. Obviously Blizzard isn't used to working in the movie business. Hopefully their communication is a lot better with Jones. I would hate to find out that this movie has been scrapped once again. Raimi also went on to talk about how his Spider-Man 4 movie fell apart as well saying,

It really was the most amicable and undramatic of breakups: It was simply that we had a deadline and I couldn't get the story to work on a level that I wanted it to work. I was very unhappy with Spider-Man 3, and I wanted to make Spider-Man 4 to end on a very high note, the best Spider-Man of them all. But I couldn't get the script together in time, due to my own failings, and I said to Sony, "I don't want to make a movie that is less than great, so I think we shouldn't make this picture. Go ahead with your reboot, which you've been planning anyway." And [Sony co-chairman] Amy Pascal said, "Thank you. Thank you for not wasting the studio's money, and I appreciate your candor." So we left on the best of terms, both of us trying to do the best thing for fans, the good name of Spider-Man, and Sony Studios.

In the end Webb made a great movie, and I'm excited for the upcoming sequel. As for the World of Warcraft movie, hopefully it gets the epically badass adaptation that it deserves.

STAR WARS - Epic Video Retrospective

Here's a great Star Wars retrospective created by YouTuber Sync0py, it even manages to help make the prequel trilogy relevant. But, it puts a main focus on the original trilogy. The video is so well made, it makes me want to watch these movies again! Here's a note from the editor...

Star Wars: Original Trilogy is the most popular saga of all time and it have a charm which will be never lost. With A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, George Lucas made a world at war on the backdrop of a family history.

The prequel trilogy is more my generation, it's not as powerful as the original trilogy but i like Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. But the better thing of this saga is John Williams, his partitions gives us chills forerver.

Enjoy!

Carrie Fisher has always just kind of dodged questions regarding her potential return as Princess Leia in J.J Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. But this time when she was asked about returning to the franchise by Palm Beach Illustrated, she gave a very clear answer...

Q: Disney is going to continue the Star Wars saga, producing movies set to hit theaters starting in 2015. Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?

A: Yes.

So there it is! Fisher has officially confirmed that she will be back as Princess Leia in the exciting new Star Wars film! Which basically tells us that Mark Hammill and Harrison Ford will be back as well. She does have some fun with it saying what Leia would be like today,

Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home [laughs]. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.

I guess we all figured that this was going to happen, but it's nice to see confirmation like this. It's excited to see that the gang is all coming back together! I'm so excited to see what comes of all this!

J.J. Abrams Helped with IRON MAN 3's Third Act

With the release of the final amazing trailer for Iron Man 3, it's been a big fun news day for the movie. We've now got another really cool bit of information to share with you about the film, that you might be interested in knowing. Robert Downey Jr. reveals that at one point during production Marvel turned to Star Trek director J.J. Abrams to help out with the film. Here's what he revealed to IGN,

There were a couple times in Iron Man 3 where our lifeline was we’d call Jon Favreau. 'What do we do?' He’d be like, 'Stick with this. Stick with the love story,' or whatever. Then he’d say, 'Wait, didn’t we used to do this same thing with Shane?' Because we reached out to Shane a bunch, particularly in the first Iron Man.

Then I think we reached out to J.J. Abrams at one point when we were really confused in Act III, and he helped us, too. It’s just interesting. Usually you think, in the legacy of filmmakers that come and go, there’s something so evocative about how strange it is that this particular strain of the Marvel universe was so successful, so what are the reasons for that and how do we keep that vital and just have fun?

So if you end up liking how the third act of Iron Man 3 plays out, then it looks like you can thank Abrams for helping them out with it. It seems like Abrams is in with Marvel now, too, it would be interesting to see if he ever ends up taking on one of these Marvel movies.

New AFTER EARTH Photos with Will and Jaden Smith

In anticipation of the new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's sci-fi action film After Earth we have two new images from the film featuring Will and Jaden Smith. They play a father and son in the story that crash lands on a dangerous planet that happens to be Earth. There they are forced to fight to survive.

It looks unlike anything that Shyamalan has done before. I'll be shocked if the movie actually turns out good. Shymalan has failed to impress me for a very long time. I've given up on him, and it's kind of sad because he really could have been hugely successful director.

The movie is set to be released on June 7th, 2013. Stay tuned for the new trailer tomorrow, and here's the synopsis...

One thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

THE NEVERENDING STORY - Awesome Poster Art

I was recently talking to a friend about the classic 1984 Wolfgang Peterson-directed film The NeverEnding Story. It might just be the first movie I cried in because it was so damn sad. Remember when Artex died in the Swamp of Saddness. How many kids were scarred for life because of that scene? I still get choked up watching that scene! As sad as that scene was it was still a great movie adventure, and one of my favorite movies growing up.

Above you'll find an awesome piece of art by Mark Englert paying tribute to the film called The Ancient One. I remember the feeling I had while watching this scene as a kid. Even though it was simply just a conversation, it was incredibly intense!

The artist is also working on a couple other of illustrations featuring Bastian and The Childlike Empress. He revealed a couple of teases for those below. I don't know about you, but The Childlike Empress was the first movie crush I ever had when I was a kid.

Thanks to Collider for the heads up!

Just for the hell of it, here's that scene.

Emma Stone, Edward Norton, and Michael Keaton Cast in BIRDMAN

Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Edward Norton and Zach Galifianakis are set to star in Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s new film Birdman. Innaritu has made films such as 21 Grams, Babel, and Biutiful. I love the cast that he got together for this movie. I especially love that Keaton is going to be the film's star.

THR says that the film "is a dark comedy that follows a former actor, who once played an iconic superhero, as he mounts a Broadway play based on a Raymond Carver short story in a bid to reclaim past glory. However, the play’s egotistical leading man threatens to throw everything down the tubes."

Keaton will be playing the comic book movie star trying to regain his credibility. Stone is playing Keaton’s daughter, who is fresh from rehab and now his assistant. Watts will play an actress in the play, Galifianakis will play the production's conniving producer, and Norton will play the egotistical leading man.

This is a different kind of movie for Innaritu, and I'm interested in seeing how it turns out. Especially with this amazing cast.

STOKER - Two New Featurettes Focusing on Director and Design

Park Chan-wook's Stoker is one of my favorite movies of the year, and I'm excited for you all to be able to see it if you haven't already! The movie got a limited release on March 1st, but it should be expanding to more theaters soon.

It tells a very intense, dark, and twisted story, and as much as I loved Oldboy, I think that this is Chan-wook's best film to date. On top of the great story and amazing cinematography, the movie also included amazing performances by Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, and Mia Wasikowska.  If you haven't already, you can read my full review for it here.

We've got two new great behind the scenes featurettes for the film that include footage from the movie. One of them focuses on designing the look of the film, and the other one focuses on the director's vision. Both of them are solid featurettes worth watching. Here's the synopsis...

After India’s father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie, whom she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother, Evelyn. Soon after his arrival, India begins to suspect this mysterious, charming man has disturbing ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, the friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

The movie comes out on March 1st, 2013. Enjoy the videos!

Leonardo DiCaprio Does Jack Nicholson Face in Crazy Japanese Interview

Here's a fun and very strange Japanese interview with Leonardo DiCaprio in which they get him to bust out a crazy looking Jack Nicholson impression. I've never seen him do this impression before, and I was actually surprised by it! He pulls off a great looking caricature impression of Nicholson. It happens at about the 2:19 mark, but if you want to see how crazy these Japanese interviews are, watch the whole thing. It's really got to be hard for an actor to do these kinds of interviews, it just seems like it would be so uncomfortable. Check it out!

The Victory Portraits for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire continue with the addition of Jenna Malone as the ruthless Johanna Mason, and Jeffrey Wright as Beetee. It looks like we'll be seeing quite a few of the past victors that are set to make an appearance in the film's Quarter Quell.

We've already seen Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, Jennifer Lawrence as KatnissWoody Harrelson's Haymitch Abernathy and Lenny Kravitz's Cinna.

We'll continue posting these victory portraits as they become available. The movie will be released in theaters and IMAX on November 22nd, 2013.

Here's the synopsis...

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark.   Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts.  Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

The movie was directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, Lynn Cohen, Patrick St. Esprit, Meta Golding, Bruno Gunn, Alan Ritchson, E. Roger Mitchell, Maria Howell, Stephanie Leigh Schlund, Sam Claflin, and Jeffrey Wright.

George Lucas Confirms Hamill, Fisher, and Ford For STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

$

There's been a lot of talk about the possible return of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. There's been all kinds of confirmations, denials, and people just playing coy with it all. We all know it's going to happen, but, according to George Lucas all three of the actors will return in the seventh episode, in fact he said they were already signed on to do it before Disney bought Lucasfilm! Here's what he had to say in an interview about it with Businessweek,

"We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ He pauses. ‘Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them."

He later realizes he said too much and covers his tracks saying “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.” Of course they were successful! We will see Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia again on the big screen! Lucas goes on to elaborate on what he'll actually be doing in his consulting role with Lucasfilm and Disney saying,

I mostly say, ‘You can’t do this. You can do that,' You know, ‘The cars don’t have wheels. They fly with antigravity.’ There’s a million little pieces. Or I can say, ‘He doesn’t have the power to do that, or he has to do this.’ I know all that stuff.

The Businessweek article gives a detailed breakdown of how this whole Lucasfilm and Disney deal came together. Here's a press rundown of what the article contains. And you can head over to Bloomberg Buisnessweek to read the full article.

How Disney Bought Lucasfilm—and Its Plans for 'Star Wars',” contains behind-the-scenes details on the $4.4 billion deal. The feature by Bloomberg Businessweek staff writer Devin Leonard is on businessweek.com now at http://buswk.co/DisneyStarWars. The cover image, which features R2-D2 and Mickey Mouse, reads “Love at First Bleep,” and is below.

Bob Iger wants to secure Disney’s creative and competitive future at a time when consumers are inundated with entertainment choices, and   Lucasfilm fits in perfectly with his strategy to acquire companies, such as Pixar and Marvel, which are capable of driving all of Disney’s businesses, from movies and television shows to theme parks, toys, and beyond. Lucas’s needs in this deal were more emotional. At 68, he was ready to retire and escape from the imaginary world he created—but has found that letting go is more difficult than he had anticipated.

Devin Leonard details how Lucas deeply respects what Iger has done with other corporate purchases – keeping the creative team in place and maintaining the culture. But Lucas still had his reservations and was reluctant to hand over scripts for the upcoming Star Wars trilogy to Disney until late in negotiations. In the story Iger makes it clear that Lucas’s advice will be welcomed going forward – Lucas has attended story meetings for the new Star Wars film – but that Disney, not Lucasfilm, would have final say over any future movies. Lucas also says which members of the original cast will appear in Episode VII, and Kathleen Kennedy discusses becoming President of Lucasfilms.

From the story:

*“Asked whether members of the original Star Wars cast will appear in Episode VII and if he called them before the deal closed to keep them informed, Lucas says, ‘We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ He pauses. ‘Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.’”

*”In May 2011 Iger met Lucas for breakfast at the Hollywood Brown Derby, one of Disney World’s restaurants…Iger inquired whether Lucas would ever consider selling his company. Lucas replied that he’d recently celebrated his 67th birthday and was starting to think seriously about retiring… ‘I’m not ready to pursue that now,’ he told Iger. ‘But when I am, I’d love to talk.’”

*Pablo Hidalgo, founding member of the Star Wars Fan Boy Association, who is now a “brand communication manager” at Lucasfilm gave Disney a tour of the Holocron which “lists 17,000 characters in the Star Wars universe inhabiting several thousand planets over a span of 20,000 years.”

*Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios: “We needed to have an understanding that if we acquire the company, despite tons of collegial conversations and collaboration, at the end of the day, we have to be the ones who sign off on whatever the plans are.”

*“At first Lucas wouldn’t even turn over his rough sketches of the next three Star Warsfilms. When Disney executives asked to see them, he assured them they would be great and said they should just trust him… Once Lucas got assurances from Disney in writing about the broad outlines of the deal, he agreed to turn over the treatments—but insisted they could only be read by Horn and Kevin Mayer, Disney’s executive vice president for corporate strategy. ‘We promised,’ says Iger. ‘We had to sign an agreement.’”

*“At the end of October, Iger arranged for Lucas to fly down to Disney’s Burbank headquarters and sign the papers. He thought Lucas seemed melancholy. ‘When he put that pen to the piece of paper, I didn’t detect a hesitation,’ Iger says. ‘But I did detect there was a lot of emotion. He was saying goodbye.’”

*“The day after the deal closed [Iger] went trick-or-treating with his family. ‘I was Darth Vader,’ he says.

There's a few interesting details that some of you might be interested in knowing, but the big news is that The three main actors from the original trilogy were always meant to be a part of Star Wars: Episode VII, and it doesn't sound like that plan has changed.

I'm so excited about the future of Star Wars!

MACHETE KILLS - Sofia Vergara Shows Off Her Crazy Boob Guns!

This new character poster from Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills should give you an idea of how ridiculously over the top this sequel is going to be. As you can see it features Sofia Vergara going ballistic with these crazy boob gatling guns! Seriously, what the hell!? That's got to be one of the most uncomfortable things for a woman ever!

Danny Trejo is back as ex-Federale agent Machete, "who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man - he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet."

I enjoyed the first movie because of how insane it was. There were some great action sequences! This poster is enough to tell me that they've upped the ante with this sequel, and it's going to be awesome!

The movie is set to be released on September 15th, 2013, and it also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror, and Mel Gibson.

For those of you wondering when we'll see The Hulk back up on the big screen in a Marvel movie, Mark Ruffalo took to his Twitter account to give us the low-down on what's going on with the character. He reveals that we won't see Hulk in another film until The Avengers 2, and that as of right now there are no plans for a solo Hulk movie. Here are the tweets that he sent out that sets the record strait.

I know we'll see another solo Hulk film somewhere down the line, and I just hope that when it happens Ruffalo is still on board to play him. I'm also still hoping for that Planet Hulk movie to happen, even if it doesn't happen for a long ass time.
