As expected, Halle Berry has officially joined the cast of Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past. She'll be reprising her role as Storm. I've never been a big fan of Berry as Storm, but it's nice that she's willing to come back to reprise her role to keep the continuity.

The news comes shortly after Singer revealed that he also cast Omar Sy, the French star of The Intouchables. There's no word on who he'll play in the movie but there's speculation that he'll be playing Bishop, a mutant who travels back in time from a dystopian future.

The stars join the previously cast James McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick StewartIan McKellanHugh Jackman,Anna PaquinEllen Page, and Shawn Ashmore.

Fox has set the film to be released on July 18th, 2014. Are you happy to see Berry come back to reprise her role?

Red-Band Trailer for DEAD MAN DOWN with Collin Farrell

Here's a great new Red-Band trailer for Niels Arden Oplev's new film Dead Man Down, which stars Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, Dominic Cooper, and Terrence Howard. This is the first English language film directed by the Swedish filmmaker who also directed Rapace in the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film trilogy.

This movie looks like it could be a solidly intense movie. There's some more new footage packed into this trailer, and there are some pretty awesome looking shots. Looks like Oplev did a solid job with this one, and I'm looking forward to seeing it. Here's the synopsis,

Colin Farrell joins the prestigious team as brave enforcer Victor, right hand man to an underground crime lord in New York City. He seeks to avenge the death of his wife and daughter caused by his boss. When his employer is threatened by a mysterious killer, Victor also becomes detective. Victor is seduced and blackmailed by Beatrice (Noomi Rapace), a victim turned avenger whose intense chemistry leads them spiraling into payback delivered in violent catharsis. From producer Neal Moritz (The Fast and the Furious franchise, I Am Legend) and Joel Wyman (Fringe, Keen Eddie) comes a triumphant action thriller, a powerful portrait of the relationship between two people caught in the crosshairs of revenge.

Dead Man Down hits theaters on March 8th, 2013.

Depp and Bale Up for Lead Role in New David O. Russell Film

Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell and star Jennifer Lawrence are set to reteam for a new film project called The Ends Of The Earth. The movie is based on a screenplay by Chris Terrio (Argo),  and the story is about an oil billionaire who falls in love with his adopted niece.

The Wrap is now reporting that Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Christian Bale are up for the role of the uncle in the movie. They also say that frequent collaborator Bale is at the top of his list. The site goes on to say,

Russell’s argument, I’m told, is that the ‘uncle’ needs to be played by an actor who can get right under the character’s skin, and Bale would certainly suit the rough and tumble of the Twenties era in which the film is set.

I think Bale and Lawrence would make a great team together on the big screen! Nothing is set in stone right now, but I'd love to see these two actors working together. Russell is a great great writer and director, and he is able to get the best possible performances out of his actors. Hopefully everything works out!

Rebecca Hall Joins Johnny Depp in TRANSCENDENCE

Wally Pfister is pulling together a great cast for his first feature film project Transcendence. Prestige co-star Rebecca Hall has just joined the cast of the film, which also includes Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany.

From what we know of the film right now, Depp plays a scientist whose brain is uploaded into a supercomputer creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself. The story contains themes of singularity, and nanotechnology. Here's a more detailed breakdown of the story that was previously released,

A group of anti-technology terrorists assassinate Will, Evelyn uploads his brain into a prototype supercomputer. Although she at first finds the experiment seems to have gone wrong, before too long Evelyn finds Will responding in computer form.

She goes on to connect Will to the Internet so he can help make further scientific breakthroughs. Will asks Evelyn to connect a microphone and a camera up to the computer so he can see and speak to her as well.

Will creates a backup of himself to every computer in the world, and furthers his work through accessing online indexes. (Kosove told TheWrap this plot point is no longer in the script.) When the anti-technology organization finds out, they try to steal the supercomputer and destroy it, but Will no longer needs the computer to survive.

This sounds like it could be a very cool movie! Christopher Nolan is producing it, and it's set to be released on April 25th, 2014. Here's the press release:

LOS ANGELES, CA, MARCH 5, 2013 – Rebecca Hall is set to star alongside Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany in Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, TRANSCENDENCE, it was announced by Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, co-founders and co-CEOs of Alcon Entertainment, which is financing and producing the project.

Principal photography is set to begin in April in Los Angeles. Warner Bros. will release the film on April 25, 2014 via its output deal with Alcon.

Written by Jack Paglen, the screenplay was developed by Annie Marter and Straight Up Films, whose company principals include Marisa Polvino, Kate Cohen and Regency Boies. Polvino, Marter and Cohen will produce along with David Valdes (“Book of Eli”), Johnson and Kosove. Boies will co-produce. Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder are serving as executive producers.

Hall is known for such films as “The Town,” “Please Give”, “Frost/Nixon” and Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She also starred in Nolan’s “The Prestige” alongside Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine. Hall will next be seen in “Iron Man 3” for Marvel/Disney, “Closed Circuit” for Focus Features and “A Promise” directed by Patrice LeConte.

Pfister most recently served as cinematographer on “The Dark Knight Rises,” and on last year’s best picture nominee, “Moneyball.” Other credits include such films as “The Italian Job” and “Laurel Canyon.” Hall is repped by WME and Julian Belfrage Associates.

REVIEW: A4Tech’s Bloody Ultra Core3 Gaming Mouse

$

For the last year, I’ve been slowly getting back into PC gaming. Don’t get me wrong, I still very much love my Xbox and PS3, but there’s just something that always draws me back into the PC gaming world. So I did what any serious PC gamer does, and built my own top-notch PC. But there was just one thing missing… a new gaming mouse.

When A4Tech’s reps informed me about the Bloody Ultra Core3 gaming mouse, I was more than delighted to hear about this new piece of gaming goodness. I’ve spent about 2 weeks solely using the mouse now, and I can say without a doubt that I am more than impressed with it.

For only $39.99, you can pick up this new mouse on popular sites like Amazon or Newegg. I know what a lot of you may be thinking, “$39.99??? Surely the mouse can’t be that good, for that price!” But you’re wrong! Yes, most well known manufactures of products like this mark it up to $100 or more which hurts consumers’ pockets. But A4Tech has made something that is both attractive to the eye, comfortable to use, and most importantly… will not leave you broke.

Speaking of being comfortable, the mouse features areas to rest both your thumb and your pinky finger on while playing. The entire mouse body cups perfectly into your hand, and doesn’t feel awkward to use. For a guy like myself with big hands, this was a fantastic feature. I’ve used far too many mice that were too small that made my hand cramp up after a while.

The Bloody Ultra Core3 connects via USB cable, and that cable has a cool design, feels extremely durable, and it doesn’t seem to kink up into knots like other mouse or headphone cables do. The weight of the mouse is something else to be in awe of, it feels light as a feather almost. Ok, maybe not exactly THAT light, but you get the point. I didn’t grow tired of using it in various FPS games (like my recent addiction with the Dead Space franchise).

The mouse wheel moves smoothly, and even glows a bright aura around it, which may be a delight to you “in the dark” gamers. Directly behind that mouse wheel you will find 3 buttons that operate the “cores” of the device. To put it simply, the cores are like having 3 different types of this device in 1. One core is solely for gaming and taking down the enemies in your favorite games, another is for everyday uses like browsing the web, and lastly the final core is a mixture of both.

Also included with this device is a fantastic piece of software which not only allows you to test your mouse and see just how well it performs, but also allows you to program the mouse to your choosing. With auto recoil-suppression and trajectory adjustment capabilities, this mouse is a force to be reckoned with.

Final Verdict: 4 out of 5

For a gamer who is trying to dip their toes into the gaming peripherals market, but not looking to go broke, this mouse is perfect for you. For its price, you cannot deny the awesomeness of the amount of configurable options that is available to you. That’s what matters most, being able to make it your own. If A4Tech can keep up the quality of products like this, they have a long road ahead of them.

New TOMB RAIDER Movie Is Inspired By The New Video Game

Last year it was announced that the Tomb Raider movie franchise was going to get a reboot. As a fan of the video game franchise, I'm looking forward to seeing some new movies. The first movies were ok, but they didn't blow me away. It would be great to see something a little more gritty and badass, and it looks like that's what we are going to get! According to Variety, the proposed Tomb Raider movie reboot is going to be in line with the latest game, and the game looks awesome! The movie is being developed by GK Films with Crystal Dynamics, and studio head Darrell Gallagher, had this to say,

They are working from this new take that we’ve given them. It’s a good partnership. We’re seeing the challenges through the same lens. It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise. We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old ‘Tomb Raider’ films.

Right now Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are writing the script for the movie, which is being produced by Graham King who said the film...

...is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece. It does have a lot of really great characters, but it's a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it's something very different. I've not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we're going to give it a shot.

The new game comes out soon, and it looks great. From what I've seen of it, I think it will make for a great new movie franchise! Who would you like to see play the new Lora Croft?

First TV Spot for EVIL DEAD - Viewer Reactions

"If we don't do something...
were all gonna be DEAD!"

The first two TV spots have been released for Fede Alvarez's insane looking reboot of Evil Dead, one of them features the reactions of people watching the trailer, the other is just a cut of some of the creepy moments in the film. The reaction trailer is kind of a lame spot, but I'm still looking forward to seeing this jacked up looking horror flick!

Alvarez co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues and Diablo Cody. The film stars Jane Levy (Suburgatory) as Mia, the new Ash; Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Red Riding Hood) as David; Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers) as Eric; Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) as Olivia; and Elizabeth Blackmore (Legend of the Seeker) as Natalie.

In the remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Evil Dead hits theaters on April 12th 2012!

TMNT: OUT OF THE SHADOWS Coming This Summer

We don't know much about it other than it is coming to PSN, XBLA, and PC later this summer. That doesn't mean, however, that I'm not excited. Why, you ask?

I love the cartoon, and by that I mean the original and the newest incarnation on Nickelodeon. I have caught myself several weekends in a row turning in on Saturday morning to watch. It's fun, lighthearted, and actually has some decent action in it. I also happen to dig the art style of the show as well, and from the brief glimpse of gameplay found in the announcement trailer, that is being maintained in the game.

I'm dying for a fun brawler to play, and the old TMNT games always scratched that itch for me. Here's hoping they get the co-op right (and there better be co-op) and that all the environments don't look so, well, brown. Peep the trailer below and let us know what you think!

Breck Eisner to Direct Vin Diesel in THE WITCH HUNTER

The Crazies director Breck Eisner is set to direct a new film that might possibly star Vin Diesel called The Witch Hunter. Diesel is currently in talks for the role, but this seems like a movie I could see him taking on.

The story follows an immortal witch hunter "who partners with his natural enemy, a female witch, to stop the covens of New York City from unleashing a plague on humanity." The movie is being developed over at Summit Entertainment, and they want Diesel to play the immortal Witch Hunter.

Hopefully this ends up being better than the last couple of witch movies that have been made like Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and Nicolas Cage's Season of the Witch. Those are the only two that stick out in my mind right now, and they both were pretty bad.

I liked what Eisner did with The Crazies, so hopefully he can take this Cory Goodman-scripted project and turn it into something worth getting excited about.

Very Cool Animated Short Film - PAPER WAR

Here's an incredibly entertaining animated short called Paper War. It centers on two animated cartoon characters that get in a fight over a girl. I love the concept of the short, and the way it's executed. The film is action-packed, and animated well. I have no doubt that you'll enjoy this one, it's really freakin' cool.

Paper Diaosi* living in a white paper world always has nothing to do. One day, he sees an amazing beauty living on the opposite side of his building. When he is about to propose, the second Paper Diaosi shows up, it makes him furious. In order to get the beauty’s love, the two Paper Diaosi begin to fight each other. Time pasts every second. The beauty starts to lose patient. Who will win her love?

*Diaosi in Chinese means someone who is young, poor, miserable but never loses hopes for a better live.

The short was directed by Zhe Zhang. Check it out and let us know if you like it or not!

Ben Wheatley Developing Animated Film MEGA EVIL MOTHERF*CKERS

Kill List and Sightseers director Ben Wheatley has revealed that he's developing an animated film called Mega Evil Motherfuckers. Judging by the title this movie obviously isn't going to be a kids film. He's planning it as a stop-motion/claymation style animated film that will be very violent, but funny. Here's what he had to say about it in an interview with The Hitlist,

We're half-way through the script on that. We're talking to animation houses and guys about that...it's a whole pool of people in the UK who have done 'Frankenweenie' and 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' and stuff, so the talents all there to do it. It's gonna be really, really violent. But funny.

I enjoy Wheatley's dark style and sick sense of humor, so I'm excited to see what comes of this. I really hope he can pull together the film production. If you haven't seen any of Wheatley's previous films you should definitely check them out, but I hope you have a strong stomach. His stuff is pretty gut-wrenching. For those of you that have seen his films, are you excited to hear about this new animated project?

The next film we see from the director will be A Field in England, an English Civil War film that's been described as "a psychedelic trip into magic and madness."

RESIDENT EVIL 6 Has a Release Date

$

Of course there's going to be a Resident Evil 6! Resident Evil: Retribution made over $221 million worldwide, and the franchise is still going strong. They're going to milk it for all it's worth. Director Paul W.S. Anderson has also previously said that he mapped out the franchise through a sixth film.

STYD is reporting that Sony Pictures and Screen Gems have set the release date for the film for September 12, 2014. If that's the case it looks like Anderson and Milla Jovovich will have to start shooting the new film this fall.

The sixth film doesn't have a title, and there's no story details, but the last time we saw Alice, she ended up at the White House facing down a crazy threat with Wesker by her side. Unfortunately I haven't really cared for the last few films in the franchise. They just seem to be getting progressively worse. I'm kind of hoping this will be the last film in the franchise, but chances are they'll end up rebooting it eventually.

Joss Whedon Says PLANET HULK Movie Isn't Happening

I was so excited to hear that there was a possibility that Marvel would be developing a live-action Planet Hulk movie! That's something that I would have loved to see happen, I still hope it does! But according to Avengers director Joss Whedon it doesn't look like we are going to see it.

In a recent interview with IGN the director was asked if the Avengers movies would make use of the Planet Hulk or World War Hulk storylines, and this was his reply...

Well I’m really not supposed to comment, but no, that’s nonsense.

Of course I want to keep hope alive, so there's always the chance he could be saying that just to throw us off. It's not like Marvel is going to come out right now and say, "Yep! we're developing a Planet Hulk movie!" I'm sure that the idea has been discussed, it would be nice to see if they would implement a plan to bring it to life though!

I imagine one of the main issues about Planet Hulk is that Mark Ruffallo would hardly get any screen time as Bruce Banner. I still think it would be amazing if they did it though! It's a movie the fans would love to see! Whedon also talked about the films he's looking to for inspiration in an interview with Time Out London saying,

I've got the next story, and it's a corker. I haven't even been thinking in terms of superhero movies. The films I've been thinking about are 'The Godfather Part II' and 'The Empire Strikes Back'. Those are the stars by which I chart my course.

Sounds good to me! Hopefully one day we get to see a Hulk movie that Marvel and its fans can be proud of. To read more about how the previously announced rumor could have played out click here.

Shane Black and Kevin Feige Talk IRON MAN 3 Amors, Avengers, and Mandarin

Earlier today you saw the awesomely badass new trailer for Iron Man 3! If for some reason you haven't watched it yet click here to watch it now! Collider got a chance to talk to director Shane Black and Marvel president Kevin Feige about the movie, and they discussed the army of new armors, Iron Patriot, The Mandarin, its connection to The Avengers, along with several other things. Here's a few excerpts from that interview that include a lot of great information! For those of you excited about the movie this is worth the read...

Shane Black on the fans:

I consider the fan base to basically be Marvel’s job. Mine is to be a fan and I am one and I have been from a young age, of Iron Man, so for me, I just please me and I hope that pleases the rest of the fans. It should. For instance, one of the joys for me has always been seeing how you take a villain from the comic book and realize him in a slightly more realistic way for the movie, render him for movies in a way that’s recognizable, but different. And that’s fun. Like the Joker in The Dark Knight is not the Joker from the comic book, but there’s just enough of him that you recognize him and go, “Wow, what a creative way of interpreting the Joker for motion pictures.” So that was our task here too. The fans love this character The Mandarin and we just said, “Well, what we don’t want is this potentially racist, stereotype of a Fu Manchu villain just waving his fist.” But we found a way, I think, to get an iteration of The Mandarin that we like. We got very excited about bout having cracked this story when we found out that we could include The Mandarin and give him a character that would be a perfect match, the ultimate Iron Man villain, but without relying too heavily on what the comic book stereotype was.

Kevin Feige on the army of new Iron Man armors and Iron Patriot:

You know we’ve seen, through Avengers, 7 or 8 suits and we wanted to progress that in this one. It’s part of, again, the effect Avengers had on him is that he’s tinkering even more than he did before and he’s building much more than he ever did before. The Iron Patriot is also kind of a response to Avengers. It’s a government rebrand of War Machine, frankly because the US government felt that they were slightly embarrassed by the events of Avengers. These crazy heroes known as “The Avengers” were the ones that saved the day, saved New York City, saved United States; not the government. The government felt they needed a hero of their own, they have a military officer that has one of these suits, and they paint it red, white, and blue. They pose it next to the president and Tony sort of rolls his eyes, you saw a little bit of that today. They want a hero of their own. And Tony’s like, “What do you mean, I’m a hero?” And they say “Well you’ve been spending a lot of time in your workshop. We want somebody we can rely on.” So that’s sort of how the Iron Patriot came about. And, again, it’s a thing from the comics, we just thought the Iron Patriot suit looked equal parts cool and slightly goofy in the comics. It’s not Norman Osborne or any of that stuff obviously, but it gave us a place to go with Rhodey. We wanted to take Rhodey and his sort of split loyalties between his friend and his duty and keep carrying that storyline through.

When asked about the Deep Space suit we've seen he said:

Well I would say that I’ve owned a number of “Jungle Attack” Batmans in my time and I don’t remember any jungle attack batman sequences, so.

Shane Black on The Mandarin and the Ten Rings:

From the very beginning we were all about that, yeah, the idea of just a real world interpretation of this guy who, I hate to break it to you, but he’s not from space in this. The rings are rings. They’re showmanship. They’re accoutrements. They’re paraphernalia of warfare that he sort of drapes himself with. He studies Sun Tzu. He studies insurgency tactics. He surrounds himself with dragons and symbols of warlords and Chinese iconography because he wants to represent this sort of prototypical terrorist who – we use as the example Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now - this guy who may have been an American, may have been a British National, someone who is out there doing field work, supervising atrocities for the intelligence community who went nuts in the field and became this sort of devotee of war tactics, and now has surrounded himself with a group of people over which he presides, and the only thing that unifies them is this hatred of America. So he’s the ultimate terrorist, but he’s also savvy. He’s been in the intelligence world. He knows how to use the media. And taking it to a real world level like that was a lot fun for us.

He has an intelligence background. He probably supervised atrocities in his time. His nationality's not even clear because he's shrouded in secrecy, but at some point this field officer went nuts and became a student of warfare and Ancient Chinese symbology and drew from South American insurgency tactics and has created around himself this little world of warfare - the only unifying principle of which seems to be a hatred of the United States. So he represents every terrorist in a way, but specifically he has crafted himself in the manner of The Mandarin, of a warlord. I think that's great, because you get the comic book, but you don't have to deal with the specifics of Fu Manchu stereotyping. We're not saying he's Chinese. We're saying he draws a cloak around him of Chinese symbols and dragons because it represents his obsession with Sun Tzu and various ancient arts of warfare that he has studied. That's what we like about it.

Kevin Feige on the film's connection to Avengers:

Yes, and it sort of answers your other question, which is that the only real connective tissue we wanted from Avengers in this movie was Avengers’ effect on Tony’s psyche. This man who comes from this grounded universe – I always say it’s grounded enough although he builds an iron suit and flies around – the notion that Tony Stark, who is the shit and always thought of himself as top dog, now has been to outer space, nearly got killed by freaking aliens, has encountered a god that can smash him across the forest with a hammer, has encountered a guy that his father used to talk about from 1945. It’s no mistake that we meet Tony at the beginning of this movie and he’s just building suits, putting himself in the suit, and he’s much more comfortable when he’s in the suit. And a lot of this movie is about Tony learning to become Tony Stark again outside the armor, & he has a little help in that his house is completely destroyed.

The movie stars Robert Downey Jr., Sir Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon FavreauRebecca Hall, and Guy Pearce. It's set to open in 3D and 2D theaters on May 3rd, 2013.
