Earlier today Marvel released an awesome new poster for Iron Man 3. The poster featured a small army of other Iron Man armors ready for battle! We've now got some great closeup shots of those Iron Man armor suits, giving us a better look at them. As you'll see, they're really freakin' cool! The image above is also ultra high resolution, so click to enlarge!

We previously heard that there will be around 40 suits of armor in the movie, and that they'll be remotely operated from Tony Stark's latest suit. It's going to be so rad seeing all of these suits in action!

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

The movie stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon FavreauRebbeca Hall, and Guy Pearce. It's set to open in 3D and 2D theaters on May 3rd, 2013.

Universal Pictures Will Show You PROOF OF HEAVEN

$

Universal Pictures has won a bidding war for the film rights to the book Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon’s Journey Into The Afterlife. The non-fiction book tells the first person account of Eben Alexander, "a neurosurgeon who taught at Harvard Medical School and other universities, [who embraces] science over faith. Despite being a Christian, he did not embrace religious theories of the afterlife. That was until he contracted a rare bacterial meningitis that penetrated his cerebro-spinal fluid and attacked his brain. He lay near death, comatose for seven days in 2008. He awoke with a clear recollection of what he described as a journey to heaven."

This could make for a very interesting film. There's a huge faith-based audience out there for a movie like this, which is why a bunch of studios were trying to get their hands on it. It has the potential to be a decent money maker. The film will be written by Ryan Knighton. For more info here's a more detailed description from the book...

A SCIENTIST’S CASE FOR THE AFTERLIFE

Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. A highly trained neurosurgeon, Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress.

Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion—and in essence makes us human—shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then, as his doctors considered stopping treatment, Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back.

Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere. While his body lay in coma, Alexander journeyed beyond this world and encountered an angelic being who guided him into the deepest realms of super-physical existence. There he met, and spoke with, the Divine source of the universe itself.

Alexander’s story is not a fantasy. Before he underwent his journey, he could not reconcile his knowledge of neuroscience with any belief in heaven, God, or the soul. Today Alexander is a doctor who believes that true health can be achieved only when we realize that God and the soul are real and that death is not the end of personal existence but only a transition.

This story would be remarkable no matter who it happened to. That it happened to Dr. Alexander makes it revolutionary. No scientist or person of faith will be able to ignore it. Reading it will change your life.

Do you think this will make for a good movie? Is it something you'd be interested in seeing?

Trailer for Aaron Eckhart's Action Thriller ERASED

I like Aaron Echart as an actor, and the first trailer for his upcoming action thriller Erased has been released, and it looks like it could be a really good movie. Unfortunately it's been sitting on the shelf for a few years. It was already released internationally (titled The Expatriate) last fall. Here's the synopsis...

When ex-CIA agent Ben Logan discovers that he and his daughter have been marked for termination as part of a wide-reaching international conspiracy, a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse ensues as Logan tries to outsmart his hunters and uncover the truth.

The movie will finally be released in the U.S. on May 10th. It doesn't look too bad for a film that's been sitting around for a while.

Joe Wright to Direct Neil Gaiman's THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE

I'm a big fan of Neil Gaiman's work, and it's always nice to hear when one of his stories or books gets picked up for a feature film adaptation. Focus Features has teamed up with Tom Hanks and his Playtone production company to bring Gaiman's most recent book The Ocean at the End of the Lane to the big screen. They've hired Atonement and Hanna director Joe Wright to direct the film, which is a pretty awesome choice. Wright is an incredible director, and I think he's perfect for this project.

You probably aren't familiar with the book yet because it doesn't even come out until June of this year, but "it’s about memory and magic and survival, about the power of stories and the darkness inside each of us. The narrator describes a tale that begins when he was seven and a lodger stole the family’s car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and a menace unleashed — within his family, and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it. His only defense is three women, on a ramshackle farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them claims that her duckpond is an ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang."

This sounds like a great story that will make for a great movie, especially with the talent they have involved with bringing it to life on the big screen. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out! Are you excited about this film project?

Vintage EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Documentary with Unseen Footage!

I love that after all these years with Star Wars as a part of our culture and lives, we are still seeing new stuff from the original trilogy! I'm very excited about the Star Wars awesomeness Lucasfilm and Disney are going to bring us in the future, but here's an awesome vintage documentary short that lets us take a look back at the making of The Empire Strikes Back. While the film was shooting in the 80s, French journalist Michael Parbot was given unprecedented access to the production. Some of the footage has been seen in a couple of other documentaries over the years, but now there's more unseen footage that's been found! The doc includes fascinating conversations with Irvin Kershner, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford. Check it out, it's really freakin' cool!

GeeTyrant's logo is blue today to help raise awareness of colon cancer.

My brother-in-law Jackson Dunbar lost his fight with colon cancer on September 14th, 2012 at the age of 30. Had he been diagnosed earlier, his odds of beating it would have been higher.

Members of the GeekTyrant team will be participating in the 2013 San Diego Undy 5000 on March 9th to increase awareness and promote early detection.

Please support the Colon Cancer Alliance by donating at: http://support.ccalliance.org/

1 in 20 of all people will be diagnosed with colon cancer. If detected early, many forms are treatable. 90% of all cases of colon cancer can be prevented by getting screened, but that's only if you get screened.

Jena Malone Cast in Victorian Ghost Story ANGELICA

$

Sucker Punch star Jena Malone is set to star in a psychological ghost-story thriller called Angelica, which is set to be directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein (TeethHappy Tears).

The movie actually sounds like it could be really good. It's based on a novel of the same name written by Arthur Phillips (PragueThe Egyptologist). The story is set in the 1880s, and Malone will play a character named Constance, "a young shop girl who falls for and marries Dr. Joseph Barton. After the difficult childbirth of their daughter Angelica, doctor-ordered celibacy creates a rift in the Bartons’ marriage and a ghostly force enters their home."

The movie was also describled as being a "sexually-charged supernatural mystery from multiple perspectives." So it has that going for it. I enjoy watching horror films, and Malone is a talented young actress, she most recently had a role in The History Channel's Hatfields & McCoys. Here's a more detailed description of the story...

From the bestselling author of The Egyptologist and Prague comes an even more accomplished and entirely surprising new novel. Angelica is a spellbinding Victorian ghost story, an intriguing literary and psychological puzzle, and a meditation on marriage, childhood, memory, and fear.

The novel opens in London, in the 1880s, with the Barton household on the brink of collapse. Mother, father, and daughter provoke one another, consciously and unconsciously, and a horrifying crisis is triggered. As the family’s tragedy is told several times from different perspectives, events are recast and sympathies shift.
In the dark of night, a chilling sexual spectre is making its way through the house, hovering over the sleeping girl and terrorizing her fragile mother. Are these visions real, or is there something more sinister, and more human, to fear? A spiritualist is summoned to cleanse the place of its terrors, but with her arrival the complexities of motive and desire only multiply. The mother’s failing health and the father’s many secrets fuel the growing conflicts, while the daughter flirts dangerously with truth and fantasy.

While Angelica is reminiscent of such classic horror tales as The Turn of the Screw and The Haunting of Hill House, it is also a thoroughly modern exploration of identity, reality, and love. Set at the dawn of psychoanalysis and the peak of spiritualism’s acceptance, Angelica is also an evocative historical novel that explores the timeless human hunger for certainty.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5 to Have Illusion-O 3D Ghost Gimmick?

$

0

It looks like Paramount Pictures will be taking the Paranormal Activity franchise to a whole new level, and before you groan about the whole 3D thing, what they're doing could actually end up being cool.

One of my favorite old school horror movie ghost stories was the 1960 movie 13 Ghosts (not the crappy remake made in 2001). I've never seen the movie on the big screen, but when it was originally presented to audiences in the '60s it was shown to them in what was called Illusion-O, and they had to have a red and blue 3D viewfinder to see the ghosts in the film.

According to Bleeding Cool the studio is developing a high tech version of this Illusion-O idea for Paranormal Activity 5. There's no specific details, but basically audiences won't be able to see the ghosts in the movie without wearing 3D glasses. The site explains what  this all means,

With normal modern 3D specs this would mean that the ghost would have to be manifest only as volume, not surface detail. I don’t know if you can imagine such a thing, but think of a normal flat 2D image, then some of it would be “wrapped” around a 3D space to create the ghost. You could do this with a film meant to be seen in either 2D or 3D.

But I expect it’s not that. I expect they’ll make a variant on Real D glasses that have both lenses be the same. Then if the viewer watches through the specs they get one set of info, if they take them off, they get both sets of info.

This means that the “left eye frames,” say, could contain the ghost image. Watching without specs, you’d see left and right eye frames, and be able to catch the flickery ghost in the image.

I actually think this sounds like kind of a fun retro movie gimmick. I'd be interested to see how they end up making it work. It's actually sparked my interest in seeing this fifth Paranormal Activity movie being made. What do you think of the gimmick?

Bradley Cooper to Star in and Possibly Direct KOKOWAAH Remake

It's amazing to see how far Bradley Cooper has come since Wedding Crashers, he's blowing up right now! His Silver Linings Playbook Oscar nomination definitely isn't going to hurt his career. The actor has recently singed on to star in a new film project called Kokowääh, which he could also end up directing. If that happens, it will be his first time directing a film.

Kokowääh will be a remake of a German film. The story of which "explores the relationship between two men – carefree bachelor Henry and devoted husband and father Trevor–when they are forced to re-evaluate their lives after discovering the reality behind the paternity of Trevor’s 8-year old daughter Maddy."

Cooper is really a great actor, I thought he was fantastic in Silver Linings Playbook, and this film he's just attached himself to sounds like it could be intense. The next movies you'll see the actor in is The Place Beyond The Pines and Serena. He’s currently developing The Hangover Part III, American Sniper, and Dark Invasion. He's set to star in Cameron Crowe’s next movie, and will reteam with Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell in Sony’s Abscam film.

Sam Raimi Stopped Pursuing Robert Downey Jr. for OZ over a Plant

Before James Franco landed the lead role of OZ in Oz The Great and Powerful, Sam Raimi was trying to get Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr. on board. The director really wanted Downey Jr. in the role and he was pursuing him, but there came a point when it all fell apart, and the reason isn't something you'd expect to hear. It's all thanks to a wilting plant.

As production of the film was about to start, Raimi made one last push for Downey Jr., and he sent him a plant during the courting process. As the two of them were trying to work things out Raimi had his feelings hurt when he went over to Downey Jr.'s house and found the planet he had given the actor wilting away in a corner.

This story comes from the writer of the film Stephen Galloway who said:

But after an initial meeting between the director and star, things didn't look good. Months later, Raimi visited Downey at his Los Angeles home, still attempting to land him, but upon entering the house, Raimi spotted a plant that he had given the actor as a goodwill gesture wilting in a corner. (The filmmaker declines to elaborate).

And that was that. Raimi stopped pursuing him. Having met Raimi on a couple of occasions, I can see something like this hurting his feelings. He seems like a very humble and sensitive person. It’s fun to hear these behind the scenes tales of Hollywood, and to see how the littlest thing can affect a major casting decision on a big movie like Oz

I'm personally happy with Franco's performance in the film. I thought he did great. I really can't imagine Depp or Downey Jr. in this role. They'd seem out of place.

THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN Has a New Release Date

The final movie in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: There And Back Again, was originally supposed to be released on July 18th, 2014. To avoid going up against FOX's X-Men: Day of Future Past, the studio has moved the released date of the film to December 17th, 2014. So it looks like fans are just going to have to wait a little bit longer to see the Hobbit trilogy wrap up, ending the reign of Jackson's Middle Earth movies.

The first film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was pretty awesome, and it's pulled in $300.9 million domestically and $979.9M worldwide since it was released on December 14th, 2012. The second installment in the franchise, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, is set to be released on December 13th. 2013. I can't wait to see how these other films turn out!

A gamer who goes by the name Webrow on Imgur.com has created this spectacular SNES Emulator housed inside of a briefcase. Talk about extreme mobile gaming!

All of the parts were mostly acquired from older units he had laying around. The LCD came from a broken laptop, as did the SNES controllers. The whole unit runs on the Raspberry Pi platform, which a lot of hackers have been using as of late to make fantastic creations like this.

DreamWorks Making New ROBIN HOOD Movie with Act of Valor Director

$

DreamWorks is teaming up with Actor of Valor co-director Scott Waugh to bring us yet another movie about Robin Hood called Merry Men. Apparently with Oz the Great and Powerful and Jack The Giant Slayer coming out, they see that there's a market for these kinds of films. The thing is, Robin Hood has been done to death.

So what's so different about this one? Deadline says that it's going to be a big tent-pole re-imagining of the legend, but the twist is it will involve a "high-concept revenge angle that tonally is reminiscent of The Dirty Dozen and Ocean’s Eleven." So that should be interesting.

With the way these kinds of movies are being made these days, I can kind of visualize what the tone and setting will be like. I'm frankly just not really all that interested in seeing another Robin Hood movie. The studio liked the pitch so much though that they made a mid-six figure against seven figure deal for the idea.

The script for the film will be written by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace), and Waugh will direct. He's currently developing Need For Speed for DreamWorks at the moment, so that relationship is going to continue. They obviously like working with him.

Emma Watson in Early Talks for CINDERELLA

Harry Potter star Emma Watson is in early talks to star in Kenneth Branagh's live-action Disney movie Cinderella. If she ends up joining the film production she'll join Cate Blanchett who is set to play the evil stepmother. Watson is also expected to star in Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, so it looks like she everyone's go to girl for fairytale movies.

Watson has turned into a fantastic young actress. She was great in the Potter series, but she was also really good in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which you should watch if you haven't already. She also just finished shooting Darren Aronofsky's Noah, as well as the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg comedy This is the End. I could easily see her take on the part of Cinderella.

If everything stays on track the way it is, the studio is hoping to release the film in 2014. I have no doubt Branagh will develop a great vision of this classic fairytale.

IRON MAN 3 - 3 New Hi-Res Photos

Here's a set of high resolution photos for Iron Man 3 that were previously released as scans from a magazine. The pictures include Tony Stark, Rhodey, Pepper Potts, and Adrian Killian. As I said before, one of the things I found interesting is that Tony is wearing an AIM t-shirt. AIM stands for Advanced Idea Mechanics, which is a think tank of elite scientists with a goal of conquering the world and creating a new world in the image of science.

The movie also stars Robert Downey Jr., Sir Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau, Rebecca Hall, and Guy Pearce. It's set to open in 3D and 2D theaters on May 3rd, 2013.

Expect to see a new trailer for the movie on March 5th! Make sure to stay tuned for that bit of awesomeness!

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. The Great Sherlock Holmes Series Debate

$

0

There has been a lot of debate at my house about which Sherlock Holmes is the best. There are two great adaptions of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s master of the mind on television right now, Sherlock and Elementary. I am a huge fan of both shows. Both of them take the classic tales of Holmes and Watson and place them in a modern day setting. They both have fantastic casts; Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freemanstar in SherlockJonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu in Elementary.

Now this is going to be a two phase post for me because I have some things to accomplish with this. The first is the debate. My wife and I agree on most things, however, we do not agree on who the better Holmes is. Though a fan of both shows, we differ in the opinion of who portrays Holmes the best.  Here is where you all come in. In your opinion, who is the better Sherlock Holmes? You can base this on any factors. Who appears to be smarter, who would win in a fight, anything. I just would like some solid numbers to put with this.

Here is where phase two comes into play. It consists of us, as fans of the show Sherlock, banding together and somehow getting the show to last longer. From numerous reports, it has been hinted that this is going to be the last season of the show. I don’t know if my brain can handle it. I understand that all things must come to an end. I just think that there is a lot more that the duo of Cumberbatch and Freeman can do.

So, I am going to need your help. Should we start a petition? Should we bombard the show’s producers with fan mail pleading for more show? Or do you think that it would be best for everyone if they just left it at 3 seasons and that be it?

I have my own personal feelings about this, however, I know that my voice alone will not stop the end from coming.  If you think that this is a worthy cause, let me know. Whatever we come up with will be better than not doing anything. I am excited to see what the response is. Help me solve this problem.

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes unleashed the first trailer for their new animated adventure Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! This is what Jay & Silent Bob fans get while we wait for Smith's final film Clerks 3. Maybe some of the more hardcore fans will like what they see in the animated film, but it really kind of just fell flat for me, and did nothing to make me want to see the movie. It just seems like there was a lot of recycled stuff from Mallrats and Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back. But maybe some of you will look past that stuff, and enjoy what you see. Here's the synopsis...

When they can no longer stomach the ever-growing weed of suburban crime, Jay and Silent Bob take on the mantles of costumed avengers Bluntman and Chronic, smashing the super-villains they accidentally create! Can the Doobage Duo save their beloved Jersey 'burbs from their new arch enemies, the League of Shitters? While clearly not the comic book movie the world wants, GROOVY MOVIE is the comic book movie the world needs!

The movie was also produced by Jason Mewes, and directed by Steve Stark
